About Sasha Leonid

Mix of healing & support, with plenty of knowledge bonuses

elevator pitch:

In that bar where everybody knows your name, she’s a big part of why.

description:

Short but not particularly petite; her arms and shoulders are strong from pushing barrels of wine and ale around for much of her life. Dark brown hair is frequently pulled back or worn up.

She's got a kind face with deep eyes, and usually wears a smile. Can be boisterous but is more of a listener than a talker.

She often sports expensive-looking earrings or other jewelry (though not when working; it hurts tips). She brushes off comments about them, explaining them away as props from one of the local theaters. This is not true.

Questions:

What drove you against the current rulership of Kintargo? That’s the wrong question. It’s the rulership that turned against Kintargo. House Thune doesn’t understand the city’s spirit, so it seeks to unmake it. If they aren’t going to leave, they should’ve just left us alone.

What stops you from simply leaving for a better nation like Absalom, Andoran or Varisia? Sasha points to a well-dressed couple in the corner, sharing a bottle of wine.
“That red is from Terverius Winery in southern Cheliax. It’s marvelous; 300 gold a bottle and we’ll probably be raising prices again next week.”

She holds up the in her hand. “This is from a winery not far from here. It was founded by a nephew of Tiverius, he took some cuttings from the original vineyard to set up his own operation.

She sips. “It’s … fine.”

Sasha puts down the glass. “You see what I’m saying, right? Same grapes, different land, worse wine. Everything has a place where it belongs; everything has its home. Kintargo is mine.”

A loved one has been captured. You were promised their safe return in exchange for betraying your comrades. What form will your betrayal take?
“They’re lying. They probably already have my brother — he hasn’t been seen since the riot, so I pray they’ve got him — and he I could get him back safely in exchange for a few names? Maybe, sure.”

“But you know what I really love?” She points to a barstool. “I love the people who sit down sad and stand up singing. I love the smell of Yolubilis, and the first crier on the street in the morning. House Thune’s captured all that, and they’re not giving it back, no matter what I give up.”

You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?
“It depends on whether the guards are locals or not. If they’re really of Kintargo, I don’t fear them at all. They’re family. Family helps each other out. Sometimes help means a few extra coins to keep their families fed. That’s fine.

“If they’re outsiders, well … hopefully they’ll take a bribe. Nobody wants a riot. “

Someone you fancy has finally agreed on a day out on the town just you and them. However an important meeting in your organization is being held at the same time and you found out after the date was set. What do you do?]
“You’re looking for commitment, is that it? Worried I’ll fall for the right set of eyes and run off for my happily-ever-after? Well don’t be, because there’s no ever-after for any of us while Thune is in charge. ”

Your life's nemesis is at your mercy. But his close family nearby bega for his life. Do you spare him? Or ia some other outcome more favorable?
She chuckles. “I don’t think ever had a real nemesis before. Suzy Windermere, maybe, but I don’t think it’d ever really come to blood with her.
I’m not a violent person. I’m going to do what it takes to free my city, but If I can do it with a minimum of hurt that’s all the better. I’m not looking to leave any suffering families. They can just leave.”
Her face grows harder then. “But the new Lord-Mayor doesn’t have any close family, so they say.”

Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who you're character is.
She’s the most popular person at the bar, and would be even if she wasn’t the one pouring drinks. Affable, blunt, a bit of a smartass. She’s one who starts a song that others join, or pokes fun at the other regulars without leaving any hard feelings behind … … usually. Sasha isn't as clever as she thinks she is, and she's let her mouth get her into situations where she's over her head. So far, that hasn't been a real problem: She has yet to meet anything that actually scares her. But it's early yet.

background:

She’s spent all her life in Kintargo, and nearly as long in its hospitality industry; her parents ran a cafe in Jarvis End, where she grew up washing glasses, bantering with customers listening to the pulse of the city until it became one with her own.

Even as a child she could be found roaming the city on her own, as comfortable in the masses of crowds as another might be wiling away the afternoon at a fishing hole. Everyone seemed to know her, and even the grouchiest shopkeeper or stone-faced Thune soldier could be seeing chatting amicably with her on occasion.

Her father died eight years ago, and her mother is elderly, though she still bakes. Sasha now works as a bartender for the Red Pike in her old neighborhood. It’s a lively place, still popular among both theater crowds and artists themselves, though in recent months things have gotten tense. Martial law has hurt business, and anti-Thune performers have used the stage to criticize the new lord-Mayor. The owner’s been trying to stay out of politics, but it’s grown hard, as even many regulars are taking sides.

The family’s old cafe is still in business, run by Sasha’s older brother. But he hasn’t been seen since the Aria Park riots, and she’s growing worried.

Class abilities:

Level 1: Sidestep Secret — Your innate understanding of the universe has granted you preternatural reflexes and the uncanny ability to step out of danger at the very last second. Add your Charisma modifier (instead of your Dexterity modifier) to your Armor Class and all Reflex saving throws. Your armor's maximum Dexterity bonus applies to your Charisma instead of your Dexterity.
Extra Revelation: Lore Keeper — Instead of encyclopedic knowledge, you learn most of your information through tales, songs, and poems. You may use your Charisma modifier instead of your Intelligence modifier on all Knowledge checks.

Inspiration, 7 points (Ex): At 2nd level, a psychic searcher gains an inspiration pool, as the investigator class ability. A psychic searcher uses her oracle level as her investigator level to determine the effects of this ability. She gains free uses of inspiration on Diplomacy, Knowledge (arcana, history, local, nobility, planes, religion), and Sense Motive skill checks without spending a use of inspiration, provided she’s trained in that skill. A psychic searcher’s inspiration pool refreshes each day, usually when she refreshes her spells. A psychic searcher’s inspiration pool is based on her Charisma modifier, not her Intelligence modifier. This ability replaces the mystery spell gained at 2nd level.

Psychic Talent (Su): Empathy, if allowed, perceptive tracking if not. Replaces 3rd Level Mystery)

Curse: Covetous: You find yourself drawn to the luster of wealthy living. You must wear fine nonmagical clothing and jewelry worth at least 50 gp + 100 gp per character level you have beyond 1st. If you do not have sufficient wealth to purchase this additional equipment, you feel a strong desire (but are not compelled) to sell existing items or steal from others to obtain it. You are sickened whenever you do not meet this requirement; you are also sickened for 24 hours after anything worth 25 gp x your character level or more is taken from you against your will. Use Magic Device becomes a class skill for you. At 5th level, you gain a +4 insight bonus on Appraise checks, Spellcraft checks to identify magic items, and Use Magic Device checks.
