Baldwin was born one of the younger sons of a poor family of farmers on marginal lands in the county surrounding Verbobonc. Raised on the stories of wicked bandits and evil temples and the heroism that destroyed such forces, Baldwin joined the Church of St. Cuthbert as a way to do something useful (and sensible, of course) with his life since he wasn’t likely to inherit the farm. As an acolyte, he travelled around the Nyr Dyv with some fo the church’s diplomats. He learned much of diplomacy, but also learned that many priests in the order were too willing to use their positions for corrupt purposes when not under the eyes of their superiors. Disgusted, Baldwin turned from the path of being a ministering priest and joined the Stars, the arm of the church dedicated to maintaining doctrinal integrity and weeding out corruption. He joined the Cuthbertine Inquisition.

Baldwin is of mixed Oeridian and Suel stock with dirty blond hair, brown eyes, and skin that easly darkens in the sun. His manner is a bit on the strident side and he is unafraid of confrontations or using force to knock some sense into people’s heads.
