"Fine, fine!" Bahram says eagerly, stepping in before Lavender can rile the mephit further. Fishing in his pouch he provides the requested twenty gold coins and dumps them into an offering bowl.

Stepping back he stares haughtily away from the gold and the mephit only to frown and the mephit and wave his hand at him, a picture of haughty impatience. "Well? Go on then, hurry up!"

So.. How's everyone?

Bahram cringes a little at Lavender's assessment of the groups method of operations and their likely hood of diplomatic success but nevertheless says nothing and looks at the mephit. Lavender was probably right.

Ok, went back to look at what Zayifid said and he didn't say anything about these caves, just that we needed to 'bring low the Carrion King' before the gnolls muster under one banner. So I guess we're here to what? Get some sort of weapon(s)? Information? Sightseeing? Find a nice pool of lava to dip Lavenders wand into? ;P I dunno.

Turning his back to the mephit Bahram brings his sleeves up to his face as conspicuously as he can and whispers into them. "So, who is this guy? Do you know who his mistress is? Is she allied with the gnolls you think?"

Weeeell... technically it's neither chaotic nor evil...

Bahram eyes the mephit for a moment, reaching a hand up to finger his Guides' Token' before raising a finger, muttering 'a moment please' to the mephit and turning to the group to converse.

"How do you want to handle this? We'd need to present him with something reaching 2,000 gold pieces in value judging by what's already in the offering jars. What was it Zayifid said exactly? Anyone remember?"

Going post hunting to find what the priest said exactly, I'm feeling a little stingy a.t.m. so I'm wondering if we should just blast the mephit back to the elemental plane of fire and see if his mistress wants to follow.

Prof:
Bahram puts a hand behind his back, offering Zaina a billowing sleeve to crawl into and then he puts his hands into his sleeves .

Bahram folds his hands inside the billowing sleeves of his robes and gives a slight bow to the creature, inclining his head though not taking his eyes off him.

"Greeting mephit. One should not be surprised to find a denizen of the elemental plane of fire in this place but your presence suggests a powerful master. We are the faris asim of Kelmarane, we are here because we were told this would be the place to start investigating the increase in gnoll activity in this area. Perhaps we should be talking to your mistress?"

"I don't rightly recall.." Bahram mutters as he steps into the room with Rashid and Yousef, casting mage armor on himself as he goes.

"It might have something to do with either illusion or transmutation, maybe it's a reaction to the air or a substance in the rocks... I'm not all that familiar with geomancy.."

Bahram also casts detect magic and scans the room.

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22

"Hmm... I could actualy." Bahram replies to Lavander. "I can summon a small one with the second level of the spell, wich I have memorized, but we'd encounter the same problem as with the chain of perdition, namely the duration of the spell."

Elemental (small) is on the II list and, yes, Zaina is a Zhyen as far as I know too.

"Ah! I have it!" Bahram says, spreading his hands as his face lights up. "Chain of Perdition.." he says with a smug grin.

"A chain of force that can be used to entangle, trip, drag or repostiton foes. Not the most conventional use of the spell but that should do the trick."

"Oh, right.." Bahram mutters and bites his lip, pondering.

"Prestididgitation! If we place the rock over the lava and Lavander holds it in place with prestididgitation! That might work. I can cast a hostile levitation spell on it to reduce it's weight and besides..." Bahram puts the rock on the ground and points his finger at it, casting mage hand. When he continues his voice is strained with concentraition..."...the rock itself isn't magical, only the thing hidden inside it. This should work.." but then he falters and ceaces to concentrate and picks up the rock again. "..but what about when the rock is melted and the thing is free? Then what?"

Dang it!

"Wha..? Why.. why wouldn't mage hand work? The stone weighs about a pound right? so as long as I keep my concentration it should be fine."

Bahram frowns at Rashid's suggestion of imersing himself in lava. "Ofcourse not. Not unless I knew the singular version of this spell wich would grant me a more powerful protection against a chosen element. Either that or complete immunity to fire, then I might concider risking a swim. I'm only proposing to dip this.." ..Bahram produces the molten lump of rock.. "..into the lava. Not myself."

Wisdom? Is that something you eat with a slice of bread?

Bahram ponders Yousef's proffered plan. "Might work actualy." he says with a shrug. "But have we seen any evidence that they even know we're here? Sure, one scout got away but how long to the camp? And then how long to muster? And how can we know who and how many are coming and if the witch will actualy rouse herself? Maybe we should just take the fight to her instead? Bet she wouldn't expect that."

"But then again Zayifid told us to start here, in this cave, so maybe we should just keep our course? Besides, I'm pretty excited about seeing if there's actualy any molten lava in there. It might just do the trick with the trinked our new-found friend offered us."

"Eh.. It's the same spell father Rashid was offering actually, it will last for 10 minutes if I divide it up amongst the five of us.. eh.." Bahram trails off as he stares at the gnoll. "But there are six of us now isn't there.."

"Hey Zaina, I meant to ask you about the priest, Zayfid. You said it was the name of one of the templars, Kardswaan's gang. Do you think there is a connection? Could he be a descendant of one of the monks perhaps?"

"Before I forget; I have a scroll of communal resist energy at the 5th caster level that we found on the gnolls harassing the griffons we encountered. Should I cast it now before we head in or shall we see how we handle the heat?"

Our path is Into the Fire Cave iirc. I remember a Sarenite priest who sent us on this quest to investigate the rise in gnoll activity, Zaina recognized his name back in the sphinx cave and I'm waiting for the appropriate moment to arise for Bahram to start asking about it (I actually just forgot 'till now) and said priest sent us here, to the cave, to start our investigations.

Bahram eyes the cave suspiciously but doesn't realy see any other options available to the group, this was their intended destinations, the fire cave, full of lava and, aparantly, fire snakes. Sighing he turns to the gnoll and says with exagerated slownes, "Yeess.. Fiierr Caavee.." and the turns to Yousef and asks in full earnestnes, "Is the creature slow or something? Repeating itself and nodding is a poor way of comunicating I must say, I'm half expecting it to start drooling at any moment... Can't you get through to it?"

Bahram just watches Rashid and Yousef discuss the extent of the trust extended toward the newest member of this mishap group, honestly his background and circumstance of joining wasn't all that different from say Feliped. The only distinction readily apparent to Bahram at the moment was the hair covered snout but the snout was enough for Bahram to eye it warily as he absentmindedly fingered the green lump of rock and it's golden treasure in his pocket.

Bahram stops his activities and stares a bit at the discussions with the gnolls and Rashids' chastisement of Haleen. Grinning he gives a short laughs at Haleens' comment and gives Zaina a wink.

Looking back at the green, magically altered rock and it's golden prize he shrugs. "Maybe we need heat to soften it up again. Lava perhaps?" he muses and pocket the thing with a shrug, ready to go.

Noticing Zaina joining him in the study of the object brings a smile to Bahrams' face. "You like the rock?" he whispers to her, "I believe the magic in this golden thingy here is powerful enough to have melted the rock around it, making it look like what it does. Isn't this exiting!? Let's brake the stone off, I'm presuming that anything powerful enough to melt stone is powerful enough to withstand a slight beating." he says with a wink and a twinkle in his eye, the curious scholar beast was awakened in him.

Finding a large rock on the ground Bahram kneels by it and, holding the object to the rock, picks up another rock and proceeds to chip away at it.

"Thank you." Bahram says hurriedly and snatches the 'rock' away from Yousef. Maintaining his detect magic he turns the thing over in his hands and scrutinizes it intently.

"Hey! Uhhmm..." Bahram says with a start. "Think you can get that rock off the gnoll? That's.. eh.. that's really quite an interesting bit of rock he's holding there eh.. That gold has survived much greater heat than it possibly could and it looks like the rock is covering magical auras coming from the disk, that eh.. that thing could be really valuable. Interesting to say the least."

appraise: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18

Bahram can't help but eye the stone and wonder how much it would be worth. At a though Bahram quickly casts detect magic as he's wont to do and eyes the stone.

"What's it barking about?" Bahram ask, curious despite his involuntary revulsion at the creature.

perception: 1d20 ⇒ 12

Perception: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (13) + 0 = 13

Bahram eyes the wounded gnoll with mixed emotions. First off; There was a sentient creature in pain and Bahram, beeing kind hearted by nature, felt a need to sooth it's pain. Second; There was a wounded gnoll lying at their feet and Bahram, having experienced their cruelty first hand, wanted to but a dagger through it's eye and then toss the body over a cliff, proppelling it with a lightningbolt.

Standing back Bahram steps in front of Zaina protectively and eyes the gnoll suspiciously, barely sparing the overhang a glance.

"Will it live?" Bahram asks Rashid, the healer.

Bahram steps up at Yousefs question, instructing him on the word 'appearance' in osirion and various other words Yousef can use with the headdress, some of which cause the elementalist some distress but he nevertheless does his best to be helpful.

Bahram bows and accepts the offered headdress with a wish good luck. Giving it to Yousef he mutters some encouragements to Zaina about where his heart lies before turning to look where to go next.

Meeting Keldar with a smile he listenes to his report. "Well. Sounds like we have our destination picked out for us. Are we ready to go?" he asks the group.

Bahram just smiles and bows at the sphinxes and turns to leave with a "..By your leave.." as a reply to Ashia's 'request'.

Walking away with Zaina fluttering around him, absentmindedly playing with her, reaching out a hand to touch her and her ducking out of the way giggling, he can be heard muttering "And love triumphed in the end..." as he walk away.

Bahram blinks a few times before responding. It was all so... formal all of a sudden. Glancing at Zaina he mutters "Well, it's not like we can realy force her into anything..." and shrugs.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18

Bowing to Ashia he gathers his thoughts and concents to her terms.

"Of course lady, we will bow to the wisdom of your judgment."

"Sefu, as you know, bears great emotions for you. And as you know first hand, emotions can make people do the stupidest things. Believing that you would be impressed with power, thinking that you would not see past glammers, challanging your obviously superior intellect." Bahram counts off his fingers the things he knows Sefu has tried with Ashia with a shake of his head.

"But I ask you Ashia, in your great wisdom, to please, please look beyond the deeds to their intent." Bahram continues, pouring emotion he didn't know he had for this matter into his voice. "Please see them for what they are. Expressions of love Ashia. Precious, precious love." Bahram finds himself looking at Zaina when he continues. "And no matter how stupid his actions may seem, hurtfull even at times, please know he bears you only that one emotion above all; Love. He strives only to impress you. He yearns only for your acceptance, he seeks only your comfort and warmth. His heart goes out to you."

Looking back at Ashia he bows again. "Do not let his love go unrequited, thank you." he says in finsh.

Soo... How are we doing here? Everything ok?

Heads up, I'm going out of town this weekend and I highly doubt I'll have access to the interent from friday evening to sunday afternoon GMT.

Bahram nearly squeaks at the gesture, when he said 'friend' he didn't mean he wanted to get 'friendly' with her. Blushing slightly he gives another bow and mutters 'Of course' and steps closer, though not close enough for her to touch him.

"Sefu managed to impress us you see, mastering the Ziz's Egg is no small feat after all, and hearing his worry over your great beauty gave us pause and we only wished to aid him in his endeavors in garnering your affections." Bahram tries, hoping to turn Ashia's attention back to Sefu.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26

Dismissing the invisibility reveals a blushing and embarrassed Bahram, clearing his throat he bows deeply to Ashia.

"I am Bahram Zarishu, a friend, I hope, and regretfully the orchestrator of this 'mummers' farce', as you so aptly named it. Please do not be offended by this debacle, it is a poor way for first introductions I know but, rather you should be flattered by the lengths Sefu is willing to go to gain your favors m'lady."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 8 + 5 = 23

good to know :)

"Hmm..? Yes dear, Zayfid, dear." Bahram replies to Zaina distractedly, intent on the conversation of the sphinxes.

Thinking that this is going swell Bahram is as startled as Sefu at Asha's outburst, taken aback he prepares to defend himself but then stops as her words register in his mind.

"Yousef!" he says loud and clear, "What are you doing!? Get back here! NOW!"

"You're doing great. Now tell her that they are on their way to the House of the Beast to investigate the rumors of increased gnoll activity in that area as warned by *insert name here*, cleric of Sarenrae... Bahram continues to pour out information for Sefu to divulge.

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (12) + 0 = 12

Bahram looks on in fascination, admiring both the splendor of the room as well as the creature inhabiting it, a powerful creature, graceful and intelligent and obviously quite rich too.

Seeing the verbal exchange between the two makes Bahram wonder if they misunderstood the whole thing. Asha seemed to him to just want Sefu to grow a backbone. But then, he could be wrong, it wasn't like Bahram was the most experienced male member of his own species.

Pointing an invisible finger at Sefu Bahram whispers to the poor sphinx.

"Not so agitated my friend, be more relaxed and you'll go allot further. I actually think she likes you." he begins.

"Now, tell her of the janni Kardswaan and the Templars of the Five Winds..." Bahram tries to coax Sefu through the tale as much as he can.

Ok, details are slipping my mind here but Bahram will talk about the princess and her human lover, the war and their fall, try to get her interested in the tale and tie it in with the House of the Beast.

You guys don't like my plan?
If there are no objections Bahram will cast Invisibility on himself and head further into the cave with Zaina and start the hustling.
He'll start off by telling Sefu to tell Ashia he met the 'Knight Protectors of Kelerane who vanquished *insert devils name who's I've forgotten now here* and they were on the way to the House of the Beast' if that piques her interest Bahram will weave the tale of the genie war raged in these parts that Bahram spent the last year researching (i.i.r.c.), citing names, locations and ranks. Taking 10 on knowledge histry, arcana and plains for a 24 with the bonus to genie lore.
Any objections?

Stealth if I get the goa ahead: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (12) + 21 = 33

Uhh.. It's a message spell, you need to stay within a hunded and fifty feet from me an within line of sight and I just point my finger at you and wisper into your ear from a distance. Err... Here's the thing, you need to step away from her when I whisper because otherwise she might overhear us and we don't want that now do we?"

"The plan is for me to follow you in an cast this spell and then whisper into your ear and, hopefully, we can impress her between us, or at least try."

"Of course. Please, go ahead." he says to Zaina when she asks for permission to cast her spell. "And if you see any of us in need and you know you can help you don't need to ask Zaian, you have my full permission to aid all of us inthis group."

Turning to Sefu he repeats his offer of casting message and invisibility to help him charm Ashia if he can.

"We have several casting of the spell betwen us I believe so anyone who wishes can come along actually."

Linguistics: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28 plus any circumstance bonus Proff feels are appropriate for speaking Osisian ;P

Bahram waves off his companions concern and gathers himself and ponders for a bit the language before turning to Sefu. "Do you know the language? Can you coach me in saying the words?" he asks. 'I should get him to teach me the language while we're at it.' he ponders briefly

Listening to Sefu he then gives it a shot, speaking the passwords in what he believes is ancient osiriani and hoping for the best.

"A.. ancient Osirian? Well.. Ah.." Bahram doesn't seem to relish the thought, he speaks Osirian but ancient Osirian? Now that was a different thing. "I'm a fair linguistic, I speak the languages of the four elemental plains fluently, draconic, elven and even Osirian but not ancient Osirian, Rashid?" Bahram looks to the priest hopefully.

Bahram follows along with a bit of mirth, finding the prospect of helping the sphinx out a little with his love life somewhat exiting in th ecompany of friends and with the playful Zaina at his side. Seeing the glyphs Bahram squints in the sun, desperately whanting to move closer and examine them fully.

"Can't we just dispel them?" he asks at the warning.

Hearing the riddle Bahram mulls for a bit. "The four elements? Wind, fire, water and earth?" it is more a question than a statement.

Bahram sighs at Yousef's riddle, though he wasn't sure he could make an educated guess as to it's answer and it wasn't likely to ease Sefu's way with Ahia.

Holdig up a hand to get the sphinx's attention back Bahram tries to think of something better to discuss but ends up agreeing with Lavander.

"Yes they are. We've had some less than pleasant encounters with them a year ago..." and that gives Bahram an idea for the sphinx, "Ashia likes to news right? She whants to be umm... up-to-speed so to say. Well, have you heard the details of Kelmarene's rise this past year? I'm asking because we have first hand reports of events, all events, leading to the fall of the gnolls in the area and the rise of the town for, you see, we were instrumental in those events. We personaly freed Kardswaan, a janni under a dominate spell, from the enslavement of a vile devil and then slew the devil itself, shaking the gnolls grip loose..." Bahram suggests hopefully.

"That's alright dear. My mistake." Bahram replies to Zaina.

"Ah, right. Hey Yousef, catch!" Bahram slips of the ring of feather falling and chucks it to Yousef. "You can carry Haleen, Lavander has got one too and I can cast feather falling at will. Father Rashid, may I assist you down?" Bahram offers to hold onto Rashid as he himself floats down to the sphinx.

Landing softly on the riverbank Bahram bows to the sphinx. "Might I inquire your name sphinx?" he begins.

"That might actually work my friend. I can cast a message spell from up to a hundred and fifty feet and can cast an invisibility spell that will last for five minutes at a time. Do you think that will suffice?"

"That egg really is a wonder. May I ask were you got it?"

'Oh right.' Bahram mutters and pats himself down when Lavender mentions writing material. 'A pen.'

"Wasn't there a spell for creating such things, minor creation or something like that?" he asks, looking hopefully at Rashid and Zaina.

So far various utility spells coupled with creative thinking has served us much better than straight up power blasting so I'd say go with whatever suits the story first.

As with the whirlwind I'd look at if it has any vulnerabilities and utility as well as it's potential damage output, I believe it would be an effective shield against arrows f.ex. and I'm not sure how you go about damaging a whirlwind when I think about it.

I switched to djinn back then because it was better flavored than straight elemental though I liked the bonus spells better for the elemental. The abilities are similar, mostly the same actually.

Edit; Can you cast spells in whirlwind form? I'm picturing a whirlwind holding a couple of gnolls and shooting them with lightning as the twirl helplessly in it's vortex.

"Ah.. I see.." Bahram mutters hesitantly, a lot less sure of his relative safety now that the sphinx's true nature was revealed. Shrugging he looks around, gathering his wits...

Lavender wrote:
"Why hide who you are from her? I think you should woo her with charm, not gifts and illusions. Show her that your serious and that you love her. Eventually she will come around! Why are you changing your appearance anyway?"

Bahram cringes a little at Lavenders suggestion but nevertheless concedes that she has a point. "Have you tried wooing her intellect? Obviously she's not impressed with such simple displays of power as even the ziz's egg proved useless in your endevour. Maybe a good riddle, some choice piece of gossip or a discussion about some obscure book would help? With our collected intellect.." Bahram indicates the gathered group, "..I'm sure we can come up with something that would interest her, maybe a series of riddles shot through with choice tidbits of knowledge of magic or the planes would be what you need? Even topics such as religion and history is within the this groups grasp to aid you."

Awesome Prof, profile updated though I need to update his description, background and maybe work on his beliefs.
