Báin is the second son of Thrombur, the thirteenth child of Bombur. Born two years after the dwarves reclaimed Erebor, Báin was raised in an environment of wealth and privilege. His parents struggled hard to rebuild the dwarven nation, but they coddled their children. As a young dwarf, Báin served in the territorial defense forces of Erebor. He was never an amazing warrior, but he was passable as a craftsdwarf. When Báin left the defense forces, he started a trade business with the Bardlings of Dale. It was during this time that he met Jotun, son of Jungarr. The two got along quite well, and have decided to see the world, and maybe set up some trade between Dale and the Shire. Báin’s grandfather often speaks about the food, drink, and tobacco he enjoyed in the Shire before the reclamation, so why not bring some of it to Dale and Erebor.

Báin has known Jotun for several years now, and has traveled to Bree with him from Dale.

1) What is your near term goal in life? Establish trade between the Shire and Dale/Erebor
2) What long-term goal do you envision pursuing if adventure doesn't sweep you away? Marrying a well-bearded woman and having many children.
3) What do you think about adventures in general? Adventures are for those that are called to them, and who answer that call. Not all will be called, and not all will answer.
4) What is most precious to you? My people.
5) What would cause you to give that up? Nothing would cause me to betray them, but if giving them up personally, made them safer, then I would.
6) Are you married? Do you want to be? I am not married, but I want to be.
7) Goblins, wizards and walking trees? Do you think they really exist? I have fought goblins, and met wizards. I’ve no knowledge of walking trees.
8) You carry an item that is precious to you. What is it? My coat of mail. My Gruncle Bofur first donned it when he and the rest of Thorin’s company armed themselves inside the mountain to face Smaug, and later the orcs and worgs.
