Ikkyu Sojun Personality & Description:

Ikkyu is a relatively tall and broad shouldered guy.
The events of his youth, growing up in an Inn on the road side and his grandfathers teachings and training not only formed his body, but also his mind and personality.
He´s a calm and even tempered person, working hard and taking responsibility. He believes in order, wild bouts of passion are not his thing. His training as a monk required a lot of focus and self discipline, it also made him confident about his abilities and gave him a valorous and dauntless attitude.
He looks optimistically at life. Even though there were hard times, things have always worked out somehow and he is confident with hard work it will be this way in the future too.
While he is quite good at sensing others intentions, he is more of a shy person and not the best with words. Mostly, he doesn´t find the right ones or spoils situations with his dry humor.

Ikkyu Sojun Campaign Trait:

Lucky Monkey employee: You have been working in the prosperous inn between Sasserine and Cauldron either as a guard, cooker, waiter or stable lad, or perhaps you are a member of the owner family. You might have been told to look for a safer spot to build a business within Cauldron or you needed a change of life and are looking for new opportunities in the city. Your previous work gave you a profession and you got used to talk with people of very different origins. You get a +1 trait bonus in the Profession skill related to what you were doing in the Lucky Monkey and Diplomacy, and one of the two are considered a class skill for you.

Lucky Monkey
The Lucky Monkey is a large roadhouse and inn about a day's ride from Cauldron. Founded so that travelers to and from Sasserine would have a safe place to stay, the roadhouse is also a favorite of local loggers and explorers.
Within its walls lies a small shrine to Fharlanghn (Desna), unique in the region.

Cauldron’s adventurer: You have already been adventuring in the Cauldron area. Dispute over loot sharing, an injury or the other members death has separated you from your previous party. You blame one of your previous companions or patron about the events that took you out of the party (work with your GM to tie this up with one of the adventurers and patrons appearing in the AP as the Stormblades or patrons as Vhalantru, Terseon Skellerang, Celeste or other nobles). You start the adventure with a masterwork weapon or a partially filled wand worth 350gp or less and get a +1 trait bonus to Knowledge dungeoneering.

Family:

Grandfather Kaso
Brother Sankyu
Sister Kanna
Rest of family deceased during the filth fever plague.

Ikkyu Sojun Origins:

The Sojun family ran the Lucky Monkey for already over 10 generations and always the eldest son inherited the Inn. Ikkyu grew up in the Inn as the seventh son of the family and had an easy life in his first years, being homeschooled by his family and helping out in the Inn here and there, but mostly strolling around in the wilderness around it and playing. Unfortunately 7 years ago the filth fever not ony hit Cauldron very hard, but also the Lucky Monkey Inn and the Sojun family. Out of the 7 sons only 2 survived - Ikkyu and his elder brother Sankyu - as well as their sister Kanna.
The time during and after the filth fever was difficult for the Inn, since trade and travel were heavily cut down. The family fell into poverty for a while and there were some hard years before things were back to normal.
Now Sankyu would inherit the Lucky Monkey, Kanna and Ikkyu would help out to their best. All of them learned the families many Innkeeping traditions and tricks as well as the secrets of the formidable kitchen and brewing though.
Ikkys learned some other secrets too though and inherited a special duty from his father: As long as they ran the Lucky Monkey, at least one member of the family had always been a member of the Order of the Silver Dream, an ancient order of monks who made it their duty to fight the undead, and was looking over the region. The monks of the silver dream developed and trained special fighting techniques, which were also passed along in the Sojun family.
Ikkyu´s grandfather decided that he should be the heir of that tradition and began to train Ikkyu as a monk, teach him and drill him in the special fighting techniques, what made Ikkyu quite happy, since it also gave him some more prospects for the future.

Often a wandering elf women - Shensen Teseril - would visit the Inn, a friend of his grandfather. Every time she would talk to Ikkyu and tell him tales and stories of the past, of monks and of gods, but also about philosophy and lots of other stuff. When he was older, she would also watch his training sometimes and comment on it, as well as asking him difficult question to ponder about. Ikkyu was never sure what to make of that women, but respected her since his grandfather held her in high esteem.

With a shrine of Desna being part of the Lucky Monkey Inn, religion and spirituality were introduced early into Ikkyus life. Besides the many pilgrims coming there and travelers praying for safe travels, there was no cleric and mainly the family serviced the shrine. That meant Ikkyu was often playing there as a little kid and later cleaning and servicing the shrine himself, what gave him plenty of opportunity to think about the teachings of Desna.
Combined with the instructions from his grandfather and Shensen, his interest in the divine world was awakened. He would gladly talk with any wandering priest or cleric and the pilgrims about their beliefs. When he was old enough, he also went to Cauldron, visiting the temples there and informing himself about the different believes represented there. That way he came to know the different priests like Jenya Urikas and the paladin Alek Tercival from the Church of St.Cuthbert, Asfelkir Hranleurt from the temple of lordly might, Ike Iverson and Calmus Vel from the Cathedral of Wee Jas, as well as Kristof Jurgensen from the church of Pelor. Especially with the latter he spend a lot of time. Wile the ordered aspect of Abadar and the strongness of Gorum appealed to him, the teachings of Sarenrae impressed him the most.
He would often talk for hours with Kristof Jurgensen about different aspects of the faith and their stance on undead, which met very well with the indoctrination he received from his grandfather and Shensen.
He also liked the aspect that those who do evil either should be redeemed or meet swift justice.

When he could afford it Ikkyu paid the entrance fee to the bluecrater university to study books about history, religion and philosophy there, what didn´t happen all too often. Often enough though to attract the attention of Jasper Drundlesput, who wondered who the young man might be, since he was a scarce visitor. Unfortantely, engineering was neither a field of interest nor a strong suit for Ikkyu, so they only stayed elusive acquaintances.

Friends in Cauldron:

Since he became a regular visitor in Cauldron, Ikkyu was able to make some friends there. Most notably among them are:
-Ryan Taskerhill, a young cleric of Abadar, who he met in the Church of St.Cuthbert. They often like to discuss different religious and philosophical matters, sometimes over a beer, sometimes hanging out in the local bathhouse. They first met on an incident in the city, where he and others saved Ikkyu.
-Maxim Snaphånce, a dwarven merchant who is a regular visitor to the Lucky Monkey too. Ikkyu sometimes visits him in his shop when in town. Since the dwarf is a chummily person, they get along well and Ikkyu likes to listen to the dwarfs tales about trade and travels.
-Dandarrion Brokenhill: A city guard who Ikkyu met only briefly so far, once on the same incident as Ryan, then several times in the city, often asking for directions. They also met in the Chruch of Sarenrae pretty often, since both visited there regularly.
-Kristof Jurgensen: The cleric of Sarenrae, with whom Ikkyu spend a lot of time discussing different faith matters and developing sort of a friendship too.
-Annah Taskerhill: Ikkyu couldn´t help but notice this young women. He´s deeply impressed by her, especially since she founded the adventure group the Stormblades. He knows she´s probably related to Ryan somehow, perhaps even his sister, but didn´t dare ask yet.
He was part of her adventuring group, the Stormblades, for a short time, but left since he was not getting along with some other members there.

Incident in the City:

On one of his tours in the city, Ikkyu strolled through some abandoned houses near the crater lake, what was a bad idea. He disturbed the final rest of some yet undiscovered poor victims of the filth fever, whose remains angrily rose and attacked him. Much to his luck, the screams of horror and surprise meeting his first undead didn´t go unnoticed and some guards and a cleric soon arrived to come to his aid.
That´s when he first met Ryan and Dandarrion.

Ikkyu and the Stormblades:

When Annah Taskerhill founded the Stormblades, Ikkyu was on of the first to heed the call. Annah had caught his eye a long time before already and this was his only chance to get closer to her.
Unfortunately it didn´t work out for him. The Stormblades approach at adventure and people was something he was not comfortable with and the growing differences between him and some other party members were too big to be ignored after some time. Annah did not take any side or make any attempts to help his points, so he left the group with a heavy heart. All he got out of this adventure was a magic wand and the knowledge that he couldn´t impress Annah Taskerhill so far and worse, that she was hanging out with the wrong people in his eyes.

Recent Events:

Ikkyu visited Cauldron even more recently with the plan to look for a decent spot to open a new Inn there. A safer place in the city, where business would be even better.
The disappearances of Jasper Drundlesput and the three high priests of Sarenrae, which put his friend Kristof in a curious position, shocked him profoundly. Even though he didn´t know the gnome very well, he still is worried - even more about his friend Kristof. When the high priests vanished, perhaps he would be next? And they were keepers of a shrine, so is his family. That mystery should better be solved sooner than later, before more vanish.
