I am a magus, and i was wondering if i get a spell a level, or a spell every two levels, two spells for level, etc... how often to i get new spells?

I have a level 5 paladin, and i want to begin taking levels in Cleric. mostly due to the face that I want to have some magic abilities. so, here is what i am picturing

Once I level up, I will take a level in cleric

Domains: Travel and Sun

now, when I reach level 8, assuming from level 5 to 8 I continue to level up Cleric, then if i am correct:

I will be able to "Fly" (Travel domain 3rd level spell)

I will be able to use "Searing Light" (Sun domain 3rd level spell)
Searing light uses 1d8 per 2 caster levels. a level 5 paladin would have 2 caster levels (if i'm not mistaken) And a cleric would have 3, resulting in a 2d8 roll. (correct me if i'm wrong, i could be waaay off base)

My weapons are a sword and a shield
And I am wearing heavy armor. making my flight speed 40ft. Ascending at half speed, and descending at double speed.

so example: A 6ft Knight is in combat with me.
I attack him, but his AC is too high for me to hit with my sword, due to High armor.
He takes his attack
If i am still alive, I use Fly as a standard action to ascend 20ft. lasting 8 min.
After he takes his turn, I use Searing Light for 2d8 damage.
Rinse and repeat.

I will mostly use my sword and shield for combat, due to my sword having +2d6 against evil, Divine Bond: Wep, and channel smite.

But, i am just a beginner, and most like have many flaws in the build. Any advice to help me? and what about downsides? I am looking for more experienced people to point out unseen flaws.

Preferably Elemental:Air. but one question. with the movement bonus of, "Fly 60ft"...does that mean i can fly? or..levitate, or something? and what would be the biggest downsides to having a couple sorcery levels?
