About Augustine Jaeger

What? You were expecting a servant of Calistria to be better looking, maybe not so many teeth. Oh, it's certainly true that we've got some lookers down at the temple, but don't forget she's also the goddess of revenge. If you think you've gotten away with something, beat the system, taken candy from the metaphorical baby, don't get too cocky. Calistria knows what you did, and sometimes she hears the little guy's prayers for revenge. Sometimes she sends me to exact the revenge that the little guy can't get for himself. They got a saying down at the local temple, "You'd better hope it's karma that bites you in the ass, because Auggie has more teeth."

Take, for example, the diplomat's daughter who was recently kidnapped over in Andoran. The kidnappers thought that they could get away with it because they were sneaky - not sneaky enough. They thought they were too big to take down - you're not bigger than Calistria. They thought maybe they could slip us a little coin under the table, and maybe we would look the other way - you don't buy your way out of divine justice.

And then there was the traitor of Nerosyan, a nice respectable looking gentleman who just happened to invite a bunch of demons in to devour the town. I had to go clean up the mess he left in the Pathfinder Lodge. The traitor's still at large, but its only a matter of time. I'm not the sort to sit around reminiscing past glories while a villain like that is on the loose. You don't let demons into your town and get away with it while Auggie's on watch. (Update: My friend, Cat, tells me that the evil-doer was brought to justice by the formidable mustache of Dr. Cornelius Idaho. Surely Calistria exacts her vengeance in an unusual manner sometimes!)

Now you may be thinking a guy like me is a little rough around the edges for the Silver Crusade. Maybe that's true. They won't be putting me on the recruiting posters, I'm sure, but the way I see it the bad guys aren't going to fight fair. If the bad guys are going to skulk in the shadows, we need someone on our side who can do a bit of skulking too. That's me - the hero in the shadows. A bit of a "dark knight" if you will . . .

I won't reveal the location of my secret lair, but I have recently acquired a town home in Absalom, and a seneschal named Alfred.
