About Asher Hanafesh

A slave often has little else to do other than pray for relief. Asher Hanafesh, born as just another slave in the vast sea of Osirion's army of slaves, prayed to Sarenrae in nearly every moment. Even as he grew older and the sting of the overseers' lashes grew harsher, his faith did not break. He labored daily, surviving where many others did not, praying all the while for Sarenrae's rescue. Even the other Keleshite slaves looked down on him for his elvish heritage.

On his 18th birthday, Asher's faith was rewarded. While the overseers did not grant him any relief, even for his birthday, a sudden sandstorm separated him from the other slaves. When the sandstorm stopped, as suddenly as it began, an angel stood before him. Asher immediately knew him as a servant of Sarenrae, the archangel Abraxiel. The powerful being explained to Asher that the Sunflower had heard his pleas and seen his unyielding faith, and that she was moved to assist him. The angel explained that he needed a human vessel, one who would manifest the will of the goddess without hesitation. Pious Asher answered immediately, accepting whatever task Sarenrae set before him and trusting that she would not give him more than he could handle. Abraxiel nodded and gestured downward at Asher's feet.

Half-buried in the sand before him was an amulet, glimmering with an inner fire and the holy symbol of Sarenrae. When Asher kneeled to pull it from the sand, Abraxiel placed his hand on the young man's shoulder. With a blinding light, the archangel was bound to his mortal vessel through the amulet. Asher spread Abraxiel's wings for the first time, taking to the sky in a fiery burst. Together, they delivered Sarenrae's swift justice to the cruel slavemasters and freed countless slaves who followed him as a savior.

Nearly twenty years later, as the bond between the angel and vessel grew stronger, Asher continues to battle evil and injustice with righteous fury. Armed with a massive greatsword forged in Heaven, he protects a community of freed slaves in the sands of Osirion.
