Ah, yes, good point. I must admit I had forgotten about that. I have replaced house Urvis with the (almost extinct) house of one of my players. Thanks for the reminder. Then it's more a matter of how such an adoption law is written (that it must come with "all rights and privileges"). :)

First: Thanks, both of you, for the quick replies with interesting thoughts and views :)

Overall I really want to reward my players for being interested in making the city better, so not being able to say (without doubt about the correctness of the ruling) "Yes, my dear heroes, we can adjust the contract and let ol' Queen Abrogail sit there with egg on her face." was a bit annoying. But the ideas you have are very interesting.

They have used Rexus Victocora as a "back room administrator" of sorts, and I am thinking he could sit down with them and say something along the lines of "I have gone over the contract again, and I must unfortunately say that it seems not possible to adjust the contract." But then, with a gleam in his eye say "However... I think I have a solution ..."

@Zimmerwald1915, one question regarding your idea about opening up for adoptions in the 5 families. You quote the following:
"five bloodlines [are] required to form the Board of Governors".
My initial thought when reading this was that the family members must actually be related by blood - not just by adopting someone to the family.
To some extent I guess it's either up to what is defined as "related" / "same family" in Cheliax.

I'm currently in a situation where the legal intricacies of the Kintargo Contract is giving me some GM headaches.

Situation:
My heroic players have wrapped up part 5, and we just started part 6 and and are about to enter into the negotiations with Cheliax (Nereza).

They have for quite a while discussed the possibility of making Kintargo more democratic, and would have liked to increase the number of members in the Board of Governors from 5, to also including f.ex. 1-2 persons from each district of Kintargo.

One reason for this is that they are afraid that Queen Abrogail & Cheliax will set a price on the head of each board member and their families. If one or more are eliminated (covertly) it would lead to a need to get new members/families ratified in. Ref what Odexidie mentiones on pg.17 of the Kintargo Contract.

"Hopefully, you’ll be able to find descendants of all five lines, since if any of these lines have died out without a new line being ratified in, I’m afraid you’ll be out of luck without having Cheliax’s current queen issue an official addendum to the contract."

1) If Odexidie is to be believed (and we trust contract devils, after all), this would imply that the adjustment my players have in mind MIGHT be possible. But it would require an addendum approved by the Queen of Cheliax.
2) And if so, does that actually mean that even after the secession of Ravounel from Cheliax the Queen of Cheliax will still have power over how the people of Kintargo choose their Lord-Mayor?

What happens the next time (in 150 years) when the people of Kintargo forgets to have a Board of Governors select their Lord-Mayor. Will suddently the Chelish army be able to swoop in? Or am I missing an obvious infernal loophole in the Kintargo Contract?

Fantastic stuff, and really well thought out with regards to the line-by-line explanation. Will be using it in this weekend in my game, so I'm hard at work practicing :).

Thanks for the reply, Diego. First of all, no worries about the delay on the email. I can relate :)
Second: Thank you for setting up replacements. Much appreciated :).

Wishing you all a good day at Paizo, and thanks for producing such great products!

Hi Paizo

I sent you an email at customer.service@paizo.com on Oct 9th, but haven't received a reply yet, so I'm trying here instead :).

------------------
I made the startling discovery that I appear not to have received two recent orders from you. Startling because 1) I didn't notice it earlier (obviously a bad work-gaming balance:), and 2) in approx 9 years as a subscriber there has never been any issues earlier :).

The orders in question are
#4372781, of July 6th, 2 books
#4406623, of July 28th, 3 books

Do you have anything in your records that might indicate if the books might have been returned to you? For example if they for some reason weren't delivered during the summer?

Best regards

I see this point has been addressed earlier in the thread, but I have to ask: Am I the only DM who is finding it a bit hard on the players that the only way from B8 and onwards/upwards is through the garbage chute? Or am I missing something here?

To explain further:
My players reached B8 in our last session, and at that point I had to just hold my hands up and say "I'm actually not sure how it's intended for you to move on from here."

After reading through the adventure once more, and looking at the maps, it's my opinion that the secret trapdoor feels completely random from an "adventure" / "how are the player's going to figure this out"-point of view. One thing is that the DC is fairly high, but I suspect I'll just have to hint that there is a secret door there.

Also - I'm trying to imagine why the efreets would build a palace where the substantial dwellings on the lower level and level 1 would only be accessible through the garbage chute. For one thing: How did they bring all those treasures to/from the hazneh? The slaves would have to be able to fly in order to access the chute :).

Hello all and thanks for the welcome!

It was either this tuxedo picture or one of these three pictures:
Me as a baby
Glamour shot
A Halloween costume, I hope?

And they are all far to embarrassing to be shown on the internet.

Oh, wait.

Congratulations! :)

Out of curiousity: On what ship did you take the picture?

Don't worry - I was jesting :). Love seeing the pictures. Living in Europe it's the closest I'll get :).

I'm pretty sure that one of my players, a photography geek, would use at least one of his daily rages to attack that fuzzy picture :). Or do you have a blur casting wizard in your midst? ;)

Would have loved to be at GenCon. Have fun :).

*Eyegasm*

"Swords are no more use here."
"Fly, you fools!"

Thanks Fletch :). As I mentioned in the original post I only used existing prose and pictures from Paizo products, so most of the credit should go to them. But I was kind of surprised at how easy it was to find appropriate artwork.

I still have a few things I want to improve upon, like adding music and automatic timing between the slides, but I'm kind of struggling with finding the right song. I kind of feel it's to easy to just use something from LOTR, or some other well-known movie.

With regards to the picture. I actually hadn't thought about that picture until now. It might be him.
For a while I considered using this picture from Gallery of Evil, but in the end it just didn't feel right (enough). I ended up leaving the slide open. Sort of using the obvious lack of artwork as an effect. "Why no picture of Tar-Baphon? Because none of the photographers survived the attempt."
In my mind a good picture of Tar-Baphon would have to be of him in his battle against the crusaders of Mendev, somehow displaying his power before his defeat.

Sent an email, Arth. Look for something from a fletch.

Although I'm sure I don't know how I'll be able to afford shipping costs from Norway.

Hehe, no worries. We're a little less "backwater" in the virtual world, compared to the real world :).

I have no intention of selling it :). Contributing to the community, and getting positive feedback, is payment enough.

The slide deck is in PowerPoint 2007 (.pptx), and approx 3 Mb in size.

If you guys can just send me an email (check my profile) and I'll send you a copy sometime later tonight.

Elorebaen, gigglestick, feytharn: I wouldn't mind sending you a copy, would be happy to share, actually, but I'll have to check up on the legal stuff first. Except for a few lines on the last few slides, all of the text is taken from Pathfinder products, and ditto with all but one of the pictures. Obviously, I don't want to anger any Experts with the Lawyer PrC :).

I guess it might fall under the Community Use License ( http://paizo.com/communityuse). I'll see what I can find out.

Wes: Hehe, yeah, I'm sure you do. If I remember correctly the NPC Guide PDF was made available for download a few days before I started making the character slides. I guess that's what you call a Gorum-send :).

I'm displaying it on a TV near the game table. I've got the players sitting in front of me, and with a 46" TV right behind me. According to them they can barely see the screen because of my ego, but I guess that's just the kind of talk us DMs have to endure after an encounter or two :).

Hi!

This thread is in response to Wesley Schneider's request over at ENWorld
http://www.enworld.org/forum/general-rpg-discussion/273397-paizo-re-invents -hexcrawling-5.html#post5122872

Background:
I'm going to be DMing Curse of the Crimson Throne for a group of friends, and this will be our first major campaign in Golarion. In order to create an introduction to the world of Golarion, and to the campaign, I started to toy around with the idea of creating a slide deck (PowerPoint, or similar).

What I've done, basically, is to use text from Pathfinder books, images that I've extracted from my PDFs, and put them together in order to both tell the story and visualize the story. It's not 100% finished, but even in it's current state I've been able to send it to my players and thus created a little excitement and anticipation before we start playing :).

For the record, the image on slide 33 is not from a Paizo product. It is from Primal Power by WotC, and was downloaded from their art gallery.

First, an overview of the slide deck.
Slides 1-21 contains the text on page 53 in the Pathfinder Chronicles Campaign Setting, but I expanded upon the Spawn of Rovagug by using the images, and a few quotes, from Clinton Boomers article in Pathfinder #24.
Slides 22-26 is the introduction to Edge of Anarchy in Pathfinder #7, pg 6.
The remaining slides contain the mysterious message that each player has received, and a presentation of the characters.

A few sample slides
Aroden founds Absalom.

Xotani the Firebringer, one of the spawn of Rovagug.

And finally, one of the PCs. With a quote by the famous Taldan poet, and Gorumian zealot, Shakespeare.
