BACKGROUND
--------------------
There was a normal dog. He lived in Absalom, probably on the streets. His memory of that time is hazy.
One day everything was red. He awoke from the red haze with a terrible headache and a considerably improved understanding of what a headache was. There was, before him, a sword driven into the ground. It was his. He knew it was, though he didn't know how he knew, nor did he know how it could possibly belong to him.
But it did.
He was Artemios, though he probably wasn't before. He didn't know who gave him that name, but he knew it was his. He would never introduce himself as "Artemios the Radiant," but the epithet is conspicuous in its absence.
One of the first places the newly awakened hero went was the Grand Lodge, though he didn't know what it was at the time. The Pathfinder Society was always recruiting warriors as guards and field agents. He certainly had nothing else to do, so he enrolled immediately.
Along the way he met another awakened animal, a cat scholar named Nadia. Even though her profession was academic, he saw that she had some trouble. While he was able to use his front paws as hands, not all awakened animals were blessed with such physical transformation. While an amazing researcher, Nadia had difficulty using a pen. She wrote slowly. She had difficulty finding work.
He referred her to the Pathfinder Society, which he had learned to be more egalitarian. And when he became a field agent, he took her on as his own chronicler.
On his first mission as a Pathfinder field agent, Artemios was exposed to the Godsrain. Fortunately there seemed to be no effect.
It would never occur to him that the exposure had empowered him retroactively, after all. Whoever heard of such a thing?
That feat is way outside of the level range of PFS so Artemios will never actually take it. But theoretically, he will. So, foreshadowing!
