I have not seen it in the blogs but is there a link or has there been any mention of what the plan is for classes not covered (magus, inventor, etc..?) in the Player Core I & II PF2R editions?

Thanks,

I love this book. I do not read many Paizo/Pathfinder books cover to cover but I did this one.

I hope this book inspires APs, Modules and Scenarios as it has inspired me too for homebrew stuff.

Hey Folks,
quick questions here on the digital flip maps.

Is there a way to print the digital flip maps and is there a trick to "right sizing" them so each square is 1 square inch suitable for mini use just like the physical ones I have been buy over the past years?

If there is a post on this already I could not find it.

Coding, and the fact the "I'm going to kill this humanoid because of their skin color" is racist. like, it doesn't get any more racist.

Your "defense" of monsters just mires you further, it's not a defense at all, claiming someone is a monster, othering, is also racism.

In Pathfinder alone Orcs and Goblins are humanoids with humanoid mind sets, not eldritch unthinking monsters.

And then you get into the history of them throughout media...

ahh quick to label a person a racist I see when there is a dialogue going on. Nice, I'll keep that in mind in the future. Just label a person racist cause we know that term gets passed around like witch in the 1600s or the proverbial scarlet letter.

SO when somebody here disagrees, let's label them a racist or some other name and move them in that "kind" of batch grouping to minimize and shut out any questions or dialogue they might want to have.

When did I ever talk about the mindless slaughter of anyone or anything in my dialogue here....please go back. Am I critical of traditional monsters and humanoids all being playable ...yes, based on the Golarion history and lore.

But as I read the comments to infer that because I disagree with the decision being made that I am also somehow racist or even something worse I disagree and you can go ahead and message me and I am happy to exchange phone numbers and we can have a real adult dialogue on this.

Perhaps Paizo needs to just create a whole new campaign world that shatters the paradign that makes the world more inclusive with all these comments mentioned.

There's a word for people who want fantasies about entire races of people they can slay. Paizo's elected to get away from that - the hobgoblins and orcs whose 2e depiction you're bemoaning - because the old fantasy tropes are and always have been racist as hell about it.

Please explain how all the old fantasy tropes are racist as hell?

Keftiu, and what do you think my politics are? Is that what they call a red herring when having a dialogue on a subject, trying to divert attention away from the real subject? You know nothing about who I am.

Rysky, yes it does have me up in arms because Paizo could have chosen a higher path in my opinion, and missed an opportunity to use a fantasy setting to show how truly evil it is, but I guess it's just too tough and ugly so we just won't go forward and talk about it anymore, that to me is a recon. Glad to see you want to so easily cancel me out for my opinion.

This speaks to total political correctness and is plain stupid. Canceling my subscriptions to lost omens and considering if I should cash in my VO card too.

Plain stupid and bad call. Real evil exists and I have seen it from real personal experiences around the world including parents trying to sell off their daughters. Slavery is a part of our real-world history and it still exists today. It's a horrid, evil, despicable thing.

Paizo Execs, think I am BSing you on the above, IM or email me, happy to share those stories that all occurred in the 21st Century to include one modern industrialized nation-state.

Paizo could have used this opportunity to write stories that show just how freaking bad and inhumane and dehumanizing slavery can be; instead, nope we are just gonna recon it all away. Totally missed the opportunity.

Hobgoblins, Orcs, Goblins and other ancestries are now all playing nice. What's next? Whispering Tyrant reconciliation and vampire appreciation week?

Bad call Paizo. You are losing my business and maybe my volunteerism also.

I would not mind seeing them also for the gunslinger and inventor. 2e is pretty straightforward, but little things are helpful in teaching new players and inexperienced players.

I'd be really interested in how the undead ancestries work with organized play and the current Golarion mythos. My hunch is they will be largely incompatible or extremely challenging to integrate into a normal party. I love the Dhampfir heritage, but it's a challenge at best with negative healing.

Silver Crusade

So,
I do not think it is spelled out in spell strike, but if a magus uses spell strike and the spell is shocking grasp, for example, if the spellstike attack misses, the spellstike and shocking grasp spell is lost as per 2E just as if the spell attack had missed if it just shocking grasp was cast.

In other words, you cannot retain the spellstrike or the shocking grasp spell.

Silver Crusade

I am kind of digging the idea of a Magus with a Champion/Paladin Archetype. Better Armor, lay on hands and retributive strike all coming in time to make the magus less fragile. Laughing Shadow hybrid helps with making up for the movement penalty for full plate armor.

Silver Crusade

The first one that comes to mind in a way from Fantasy Fiction is Elric with his sword Stormbringer in ways which was sort of the inspiration for the blade bound magus in 1E. Several of Michael Moorcock's heroes/anti-heroes come to mind. Excaliber? Narsil?

Cleric or Champion graced by their diety with an item...just quick thoughts without going back to the book.

I recognize that this is quite emotional for many; I do not know many of the folks personally involved, but in the business world, some industries can be very draconian when employees do not produce or don't row in the same direction as the CEO, board and the managers want. It is sad, but sometimes nice people get fired because they don't produce, or don't share the boat the same vision as their boss. I have seen it happen and it is gut-wrenching.

I suspect that this issue is or will quickly move into the realm of labor law attornies.

I recommend using some caution with the news of all of this. I do not think any of us have all the facts, nor are we likely to have all the facts on this issue for a long time coming. I suspect there is more to this than meets the eye.

If the allegations are true, then Paizo should announce the steps and efforts they will take to resolve this. If the allegations are unfounded, then Paizo needs to lay out their case.

Anyone play a Fetching yet with 2E. I find the Ancestry very interesting.

Working for the baddies can be an interesting plot hook (e.g. The Black Company, Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser, Fezzik and Inigo, etc.). However, getting the players to take the job can be tough. Whether it's a case of "my alignment says I must smite" or a neutral PC deciding that the risk isn't worth the reward, making a suitably tempting offer as a DM can be hard work.

Since it's the job of every guy-behind-the-screen to cause drama though, I ask the GMs out there this question: Have you ever successfully tempted your players into signing on with the villains? What incentives and threats did you offer?

(Comic for illustrative purposes.)

Paizo ran a special at Gencon in 2015 where you were members of the Aspis Consortium. I'd love to see an AP that does something like that for 2E.

I suspect that perhaps Tonya being appointed into her new position might be able to help or more positively influence the situation.

What I am not understanding is how some folks are getting physical copies of SoM, or the APG in the case of last year ahead of release dates.

I can appreciate and support VA's getting copies of products ahead of time, and I can see where in some cases online retail outlets might ship early due to unreliability of the post office at times, but if my local game store, amazon, or whoever can get me a copy of the book before Paizo can directly with a discount normally (and this has happened several times I have observed in the last 3 years) after the release date why should I subscribe or ever order direct unless I cannot get it anyplace else?

Should we not wait and see what is in the actual Secrets of Magic book first? Nothing wrong with any of the ideas posited, but I suspect there is more to be revealed once the book is available so not all of the surprises are revealed.

I would recommend one of the repeatable Pathfinder Scenarios.

I would recommend the Pathfinder Trials 2-11, especially if you are going to be using Org Play as a GM. Its not my fav 1-4 level scenario, but as a GM I love it as far as teaching and getting folks into 2E.

It's a decent feat one that I have used for my archer-based PCs. Add this with hunted prey and gravity weapon and you have the potential really reach out and hit pretty hard.

Silver Crusade

It is a handy book to have if you are building or are potentially going to play and adventure in the Mwangi Expanse and along the coastline.
I have a copy.

It is very well done, lots of information, however, it's not as useful as the Lost Omens Players Guide, Ancestry Guide, World Guide looking at it from a series perspective.

That isn't a question that has a rules answer. The rules say how much damage it takes to kill you instantly so that hero points can't save you. They don’t address an amount of damage counting as the body being destroyed. Outside of a specific effect like Disintegrate addressing the case explicitly, that's in the GM's court.

Speaking from sadly real personal experience I can tell you that the body remains pretty much intact after impact even at altitudes at 10,000ft AGL with rig and equipment. Since I don't see a RAW, I recommend going with what happens in reality. Your real challenge, in reality, would not be is the body destroyed on impact(yes you do bounce at least once) but in attempting to locate the body and accounting for winds, lateral drift, and time it takes to locate and find the body(making sure critters or something doesn't eat it).

The way heroic recovery works in-universe is that something lucky happens to prevent death - it is worth noting in the case of fall damage that the world record in the real world for surviving a fall without a parachute is 10,160 meters (that's 33,330 feet), so it isn't as impossible to survive as you think.

A good GM will narrate how the character using the hero points hit trees on the way down or was rescued by divine intervention or whatever.

Ya gotta love the physics of terminal velocity and there are instances of survival at lower heights with both static line and free-fall parachuting to include personally knowing a guy who jumped, had a complete chute malfunction at 800 AGL but was lucking enough to land in a muddy bog and live. Granted...he was severely messed up with dozens of fractures but made a full recovery and was able to walk, run and jump/parachute again.

The RAW is pretty fair on this subject and I want to recall a few scenarios expand on this when it is situationally dependent.

Silver Crusade

I appreciate the history and the geography in this volume quite a bit and I suspect there should be some additional forthcoming APs and scenarios to help solidify this lore.

I cannot help but think that volumes on Tien and Arcadia are forthcoming in the future and I am curious as to how this all ties into things on Avistan and the Whispering Tyrant whom I see as the greatest existential threat to all things living currently.

Silver Crusade

Going way back to the beginning of this, with 2E you have tons of options on builds that get you away from the 1E big six or the mandatory must-haves.

Perhaps there will be some alternate rules published where instead of runes, martial types will just be able to hit harder or more potently with their weapons similar to heightened spells? Like anything, there are pros and cons to this but in the games/tables I have run, the ability to actually hit seems more critical.

Silver Crusade

If the player caused it, it's on them.

There are plenty of ways in 2E to recover the dead PC and bring them back to life.

Whatever anyone does as a GM, it is best to be fair and consistent otherwise it might come back to really bite you in the rear end.

I had my first Pathfinder PC killed at GENCON on the first day. It sucked and I was placed in a no-win situation but it was fair and the dice were just epic fails.

I got rezzed afterwards. Death happens, it is what gives scenarios and encounters meaning and the "thrill".

Silver Crusade

I am curious to know what versatile heritages folks are seeing the most and in what useful combinations with class and archetypes.

I have seen some creative use of Aaisimar's with Oracles and Champions but I thought I would have seen more Dhamphir and Duskwalkers.

I did see an awesome Sprite married duo of rangers at Paizocon.

Silver Crusade

I am really pleased with all the content and with SoM will bring. I am hopeful also book of the dead and other forthcoming publications also cover new ground and concepts as well.

Silver Crusade

I look at the spell like a modern-day chemical weapon or even bug spray to insects. Even if you stop breathing and do not inhale, which is a trick in itself in combat, the pores of your skin, eyes and other places I may be forgetting are all entry paths into the body before you even consider the magical properties which go beyond the chemical processes.

The rules allow for GMs to make situationally dependent decisions and I like to believe we/they can adjudicate appropriately.

Silver Crusade

I think RAW and RAI are fine on this. PF1 made it confusing. I look at it this way, in combat, anyone that I don't to firmly be an ally is a potential threat, it is distracting me and I have to keep my eyes on them even if they don't make an attack against me. I am in a zone vs. a point defense.

Silver Crusade

I would recommend talking to your GM.

For organized play you might be able to purchase one of the following boons:
Career Change Rebuild a PC who has 48 or more XP (level 5+)

Evolving Destiny Rebuild a PC who has 47 XP or less (i.e. level 4 or lower)

ACP adds up pretty fast, especially if you GM.

Silver Crusade

Great Question; I think the LG Champion has been my favorite. It's dynamic.

Although the Oracle has been fun to play. I never gave the Oracle a second look in PF1 for some reason and it has been the best surprise for me in the APG2E.

In PF1 it was the magus, and I cannot wait to give that a go later in the year when it is released.

That said, I find all the 2E PCs a lot more interesting to play with fun contributing features.

It’s a mixed bag and money can make people do and expect certain things. If you do charge there needs to be clear expectations on both sides. What am I paying for, what am I expecting out of this, what is the money paying for.

GMing takes a lot of time and considerable resources. With the pandemic and going to a VTT there are additional expenses. R20 you have to buy the books all over in some cases because to do everything by hand, is a nightmare. The other virtual tables come withstand cost also.

The prep work and cost for a regular live paper and pencil game is less For PCs, a VTT game takes only a little more effort. For a GM it’s been a steep learning curve for me with the real life things that we each have to manage. .

I’m biting the bullet to keep the Community alive in my area but It gets frustrating when nobody else wants to step up and help out.

Silver Crusade

I play a battle oracle, and my weapon of choice is the bastard sword for versatility, as mentioned. Additionally, I carry a short sword sense; it is in the same weapons group if I need to exploit its agile, finesse, or versatile features.

I never considered the benefits of a battle oracle with bows (short bow)that gives me something to toy with at lunch tomorrow.

Silver Crusade

Harles,
your best bet is to search warhorn and discord for virtual PF 2E and 1E events. Warhorn also lists the virtual conventions.

The format you wish to play on is really up to you. If you want to GM, it's not hard to assemble a group. There are a few working systems as you have seen mentioned. Each system/format comes with pros and cons, but nothing beats a real table, with real pawns and miniatures.

That said, there is no way I could have played at PaizoCon, Gen Con, Lone Star Con, and one other convention all in the same year. The virtual format has its place, and once we get over the pandemic, I hope it is a feature of Pathfinder and RPGs that remains.

Many groups prioritize local players who were regularly meeting at hobby stores and game shops with a waitlist and working in folks as best as they can. Contact your local or closest VC or VL.

Silver Crusade

There is a lot of good talking points on this subject. I have a Champion that is melee centric and a Fighter that is primarily an archer.

I find both enjoyable and workable, and as previously mentioned, the ability to focus on 4 abilities balances out. My Champion started with a dex of 10 and is now 12. Instead of Dex, I am focussed on Char and Wis.

The Fighter I focussed on dex and str. My primary focus is the ability to hit targets at range as many times as possible.

Understanding the capabilities of each character is key. 2E is very balanced. Perfect, of course not. No game ever will be.

My Fighter is designed to lay down suppressive fire, buy the tanks time to get up close and clobber, keep the heat off the casters and shoot down anything that takes to the sky. Them darn dragons hate to stay grounded out in the open. Maneuverability and getting to positions of advantage is my goal. Picking off NPCs and monsters that wish to use cover and concealment. If things get messy and personal, I can certainly do that up close and personal as well.

Silver Crusade

When taking an archetype dedication, there is AFAIK the requirement to take two additional feats from/for that archetype until a new dedication can be taken. So my question is, does this include additional feats?

As am example, the Archer Archetype in the APG lists several additional feats do this count towards the two additional feat requirement?

thanks,

Silver Crusade

I am good with it as it is. Perhaps if we see a Ninja or a Samurai Class perhaps they will get a feat equivalent to the Cleric's Deadly Simplicity with a one die upgrade for the Katana and Wakizashi.

Being a bit of a living ancient and medieval living historian there is a lot of new research that compares medieval and ancient swords (Roman and Celtic) to the Katana and Wakizashi. A lot of this experiments can be found on You Tube and other places. You can make your own conclusions, but the weapons were designed for different intended use and enemies.

Silver Crusade

Half-Elf has plenty of options IMHO. I have 6th, soon to be 7th level Champion and I love the flexibility of options that I have. I have the PC/build that I want and cannot wait to see what the APG will have to offer.

Silver Crusade

Yes, I would be up for a hardcover book that had the Magus in it or perhaps another Campaign world like Tian or Arcadia?

Silver Crusade

I want to see the Magus in 2E. It was and is my favorite class from 1E.

It has to be balanced, and not overmatched/clocked. I suspect it is one of the harder classes to make sure the math is right and you do not end up with a dual classed PC.

I want to see it with a blade bound archetype, if anything , just for the RP flavor.

I think there was a Magus archetype that allowed for delivery of spells using Spellstrike via ranged attacks, but was not approved for organized play in 1E if memory serves me correct.

In my mind, it has to be a Class where you can do a bit of martial and spell casting stuff right off the bat from level 1.

I think there is precedent set with some of the stances, flourishes, feats etc where spell strike could come into effect. Perhaps spell strike and other Magus abilities is regulated like rage with the barbarian class and other classes with innate or focus spells.

I am pretty sure we will see it, but it is going to be a bit different. I cannot wait to playtest it and see it become part of the 2E system.

Silver Crusade

Hilarious, I got Fighter-Tank. I really love some of the choices!

Silver Crusade

Hmm, I would recommend raising up your AC. Pooling money to get you into full plate might be a good team effort. Champion reactions are critical. In playing my Champion-Paladin I selected Ranged Reprisal which I found to be very useful with Retributive Strike. Trained in Medicine and Battle Medicine Skill Feat work well too. I don't carry a shield, but I do wear full plate with a bastard sword for flexibility. I also carry a short sword and light mace in case I need an agile weapon to increase my chances of hitting my enemies.

Something to consider, but what is the healing capability of the rest of the party?

Teamwork goes a long way with everyone knowing what their fellow party members strengths and vulnerabilities are. As always, you can't tactically use what worked in 1E/3.5 in 2E.

I have to agree. I do not see how this is a function of the actual game.

I recommend having a sit down with the players and state what your concerns are up front and then allow all of them to freely speak out there concerns and observations and let them finish before saying anything. Take notes and actively listen. You may not have the answers right then and there but reflective thinking can be a tremendous help. You will need to not be defensive in your responses.

Silver Crusade

I have to say, I found shield block to be very good at saving my PC's life last weekend in a scenario. Without it, well, It might have radically change the outcome for me and several others in the scenario we played.

I think sturdy shield is good as is as well.

I don't agree with the argument that PCs would rather take a hit in the face vs using an item or ability at least to the extent that it might mean that they might drop to 0 and be in some state of dying condition.

Sure, perhaps when you know its only going to be minor damage, but if you know you are about to get the big smackdown, and perhaps even as a critical hit, I am raising that shield up, getting ready to use shield block and I am hoping that there is a Pally with Retributive strike very close to me. Dying conditions might not be that big of deal to some players, but when you are the Cleric (Warpriest)surviving each round is generally a good thing for best possible party outcome.

2E has much more tactical feel to it for combat and you have to go with a bit of an operational and strategic outlook and I have found with my PC that shield block and sturdy shield really help out.

2E hands down. Its also way easier to teach kids and new adults to RPGs.

Faster play and you don't spend 3 hours in a slug fest Boss or near Boss encounter. Its also interactive, so you don't take your turn and then snooze off for 20 minutes.

Silver Crusade

I stick with the APs, Quests and Scenarios.

I love home brew and did that for years with AD&D, 2E, and 3/3.5.

I changed with the development of organized play in order to play more at hobby shops, conventions, etc.

BTW, I cannot seem to find chronicle sheets for APs. Are they not published yet for PF2E, or am I not looking at the right place.

I would say that things are more challenging in PF2 and that is a good thing. I am not a mechanical metric kind of person, but it feels more balanced and that if you don't play smart you could get your proverbial clock cleaned.

You have to play and work smart as a team in PF2. The min/max power builds are gone as are the scene and show stealers.

I was critical of Paizo wanting to change to PF2, as I felt and still fill PF1 is a great system and game, but I really get all the changes and why we have PF2 and I really like PF2 as it makes Pathfinder I think stand more independently on its own two legs.
