Concept: A clever spy is seeking the rise of gnollkind in Katapesh, in more than one sense.
Appearance:
Ark'al was a lean, rangy gnoll with human-bone beads plaited into his bristling mane.
Now in a stolen body of Kelish ethnicity, Ark'al is exceptionally tall and moves at an easy, ground-eating lope. He has wiry dark brown hair of middling length plaited with human-bone beads, one for every human he's killed. His hungry orange gaze is disconcerting to many. Still rather lean, he's packed with muscle, and moves with a flowing grace. He wears loose, billowing clothes over his armor.
Background:
Born of the Razor Fang tribe in Katapesh, Ark'al was raised to treat his body as a weapon. Though not as heavy as many of his kin, he was faster, and before long he went raiding the human settlements with the rest of the tribe. Being considerably more clever than his fellows, he soon realized that his kind would only grow more threatened if the reason for the humans' success was not found and neutralized.
To that end, he volunteered to venture out and find this reason, living among them as a spy until he learned what could cause their downfall and the retaking of the gnoll homeland by the Razor Fangs. To accomplish this, he sacrificed himself to be transformed into a human by the tribe's shamans.
A human was captured for the ritual, to be the host body that Ark'al was transferred into. But the gnolls had not counted on the human's strength of will. During the transfer, elements of the human's personality, skills, and memories became intertwined with Ark'al's own, changing both his outlook - and his goals. Why destroy these creatures, when they could be ruled, learned from, traded with?
Thus armed with secret new purpose, Ark'al began his journey to the markets of Katapesh for the greater glory of his people.
