Description
Anyi came from the village of Biston in Varisia and although her early childhood seemed idyllic, with the other children rallying around her as a sort of leader, there was always something slightly different about her that made the other children fear her as much as they wanted to be her friend. Her hair was just slightly too white and shiny; her skin too pale and pearly; and her eyes too emerald green.
Her father was a fisherman and her mother sold the fish that he caught at the market and such would have been Anyi’s fate had she not felt the need to retreat from the townsfolk during her adolescence by going into the Ashwood. The Ashwood was quiet and fragrant and green and as far from the noisy, smelly, grey fishmarket as the adolescent Anyi could get. It was also far away from the other young people who, far from liking or admiring her, were now suspicious of her as she was taller and more graceful than any of them (including the boys).
It was while she was walking in the Ashwood that she taught herself how to make bows and shoot small animals that she would take home to augment a diet that was mainly fish and bread. It was also in the Ashwood that she met Professor Petros Lorrimor.
She was sitting quietly listening to the birds sing one day when the Professor came from nowhere to ask about the fateful day two years ago when she was beset by a Snallygaster that had become lost from its home in the Wyvern mountains. The story of her escape from it had drawn the Professor from his lecturing to seek her out as an interesting subject of study.
It was on one of his visits that the Professor let Anyi know that he thought she was an Aasimar, a revelation which was not a complete surprise to Anyi as several years before she had come across a book, hidden under the floorboards of her room, that talked about an ancestor of great power who had the blood of Bralani.
