![]() You slowly awaken, your face pressed against an unyielding wood floor. As you attempt to rise your head starts to swim; the stale taste of cheap spirits and a pounding headache reminds you of the events of the previous night: the Formidably Maid, food, drink, laughter, lightheadedness, the sensation of being carried into the cool night air. The details are extremely faint in your mind. Craft (alchemy) DC 15 or Knowledge (nature) DC 10: As you begin to take in your surroundings you realize the initial sense of motion you felt was not entirely the result of last night's festivities. The room you are in itself seems to be swaying, and you can hear a loud, but rhythmic, creaking sound all around around you.
Your tongue is heavy with the taste of oily nutmeg. You recall that those who have suffered taggit poisoning often experience such an aftertaste.
Oil of taggit is a minor poison that renders its victims unconcious. It's known to have an unmistakable strong flavor, but it can be masked by adding it to strong food and drink. There must have some in the fare you sampled last night. Your eyes begin to adjust to the light and you notice four humanoid forms around you. Each appears to be in a state similar to your own, slowly beginning to stir and visibly delayed in their motions. As mentioned in the Discussion Thread, I'm going to start things somewhat slowly. Feel free to introduce yourselves and describe your initial actions. Everyone is somewhat hungover, so I ask that you try not to start leaping about the room like a two-year-old on a sugar high. :P ![]()
![]() Welcome, everyone. Please use this thread for lengthy character discussions and general conversation inappropriate for the Gameplay Thread. If you haven't yet, create an alias for your character and post here to let me know your stats are complete so that I can look them over for any inconsistencies. I also ask that you fill out the Gender, Race, and Class/Levels fields of your alias profile. Provided enough of the group post to express their readiness, the game may formally get started as soon as tomorrow. ![]()
![]() Adventure and plunder alike wait to be claimed on Golarion's seas! I'm beginning a Skull & Shackles PbP, and need to recruit a crew of five characters willing to take on the challenges of a pirate's life. One spot is already spoken for, leaving four openings on this pirate crew. Character Fluff All characters will have made the journey to Port Peril, capital city of the Shackles, seeking fame, fortune, adventure, their destiny, or some combination of these factors. All make their way to a tavern, the Formidably Maid, where they are ultimately press-ganged into service by the crew of the Wormwood. All characters should either desire to be pirates, or at least not be adverse to the lifestyle when they find it thrust upon them. You will need to describe your character's origins, how they arrived at the Formidably Maid, and why you seek a new life on the high seas. Take some time to develop and describe your character's appearance and personality; think about the various characters that stand out in pirate-themed literature and film, and try to create a concept that could stand beside these characters and be just as memorable. Character Crunch The Core Rule Book and the Advanced Player's Guide (APG) are the standard resources you can use for the purpose of character creation. Also feel free to draw inspiration from the Skull & Shackles Player's Guide. That said, the term 'melting-pot' fails to do the Shackles justice; if you wish to use non-standard races, classes, equipment, feats, etc., simply ask beforehand and I will determine if it is acceptable. Note that those making use of non-standard mechanics and choices need to explain these choices within their character background. A quick tip: my approval of any decision will be based in large part on my ability to access the book the content is printed in. I have a large collection of official Pathfinder source books, but not really anything else. Keep this in mind when working on your characters. Character Level 1st
Final Thoughts Recruitment will remain open at least three days, but I will be willing to extend this to five should interested parties continue to submit applications. It is my intent to start the game next Wednesday, July 25. When purchasing equipment please separate it from the rest of your character stats. I won't mention why at this point, but if you think about the situation the characters find themselves in you might be able to figure out the reason. If you have any questions, please post them in this thread. Good luck. ![]()
![]() I'll be running this AP shortly, and there are several foul-mouths to be found throughout. For various reasons I would like to use setting-specific vulgarities when describing these characters' dialog to the party. So, what ideas do folks have for vulgarities, curses, slurs, and insults on the high seas of Golarion? ![]()
![]() Greets, folks. I just recently agreed to help keep a CotCT campaign running after the disappearance of their original GM. The party's a group of six, but I'm confident in my ability to handle the larger group. The issue I'm facing is that the original GM's method of ability score generation might really throw the party-NPC power curve out of whack; most of the characters' ability scores are equivalent to characters built with a 45 to 50-point buy, on average, with one individual possessing scores high enough to be equivalent to a character built via 77 points. I'm looking for advice in re-balancing the AP's encounters to ensure that they remain a challenge. Does anyone have any ideas I can apply to this end? Spoiler: The game has just started, with the group having broken into Lamm's fishery at night and being attacked by Bloo. I guess I could ask them if they would be willing to re-balance their existing ability scores, to bring things down to a more manageable level, but I want to explore my options before bringing that possibility to them. ![]()
![]() I've come across a rather interesting conflict in information, and it's got me wondering where in the nation of Andoran is the city of Oregent truly located. Both the Campaign Setting and Andoran, Spirit of Liberty describe the Candlestone Caverns as being located east of Oregent. Spirit of Liberty goes so far to say the caves lie "just to the east" of the settlement. This would place the city in the Aspodell Mountains, which is supported by the community's described proximity to a silver mine. However, when looking at the maps of Andoran provided in both sources, not only do the Candlestone Caverns not appear to the east of Oregent, but they are over 330 miles to the northwest. The maps show the city in the relative center of the Andoran, south of Olfden. A search on the boards show that this was brought up at least once before, but somewhere along the way the posts were lost. ![]()
![]() After Covaut's first night back in Camlin, word of his reckless spending and splurging spread quickly through the town. You've come the the Bearded Elf, along with several dozen of Camlin's citizens, to join the Lord Rector in his celebration; within an hour of your arrival, the inn's common room erupted into a full-blown party, all expenses covered by Covaut. Rector Covaut is seated near the inn's fireplace, too drunk to care about the sizable fee he's going to have to pay the Elf's owner, Tully Stonemitt, in the morning. Feel free to interact with each other, Tully and Covaut, or other NPCs; this is a good time to introduce any NPCs you may want to bring into to the campaign for later use, as everyone in Camlin is welcome at the Bearded Elf. We'll move forward after everyone has had the opportunity to post at least once, and accomplished anything they might wish to do at Covaut's celebration. ![]()
![]() After an unsuccessful job search, I've moved back to Elko, NV, in order to pursue a second bachelor's degree. I'd love to find a regular Pathfinder group to game with in the area, preferably one that meets on or near the GBC campus. That said, I'd be willing to drive a little to get to a game as well. If no one in the area's playing Pathfinder, I'm up for other systems as well; I'm essentially RPG starved at this point, and probably a little rusty, as I've not sat down to a game of anything in several years. But I want to change that as soon as possible. ![]()
![]() I had been hoping to wait until the Bestiary was released, but a few recent unexpected expenses combined with no luck in my job search have made that unrealistic. Please cancel both my Pathfinder RPG and Adventure Path subscriptions; I love the material you're putting out, but I simply can't afford it at the moment. ![]()
![]() I hate it when posts get eaten. I just received order #1158685, and when I opened the mailer I discovered my three items had suffered varying amounts of damage during shipment. It appears the mailer may have been dropped; my issue of the Pathfinder AP, #21 The Jackal's Price, came through pretty well, with only minor creasing on the bottom of the book. The spine of Dragons Revisited is somewhat crushed about a quarter of the inch from the top, but otherwise fine as well. My copy of Dark Markets, A Guide to Katapesh, suffered the worst of it; it has significant creasing along the bottom edge, with the cover suffering additional minor tears and separation in a few areas of the compressed layers that comprise the stock. I don't know if this is a one-time thing, and it's most likely due to mishandling combined with the mailer simply being too full. Still, as much as I'm looking forward to the books coming soon in the Chronicles line, at the moment I can't afford to purchase items that may arrive in such a damaged state. Please cancel my Pathfinder Chronicles subscription, though I would like to retain my subscription to the Adventure Path at this time; I experienced very few problems when it was my only subscription, and I hope that that will continue. Perhaps when I move later this year I'll try re-subbing to other product lines again. ![]()
