Angel stares at what he has just drawn, "I think it is this ... the known final resting place of a Runelord. This information would be extremely valuable to our Venture Captain and likely give credibility to her life search. "
"This statue is slightly worn in a couple places, I think. I'm sure it's involved in the solution as most of the other puzzles we have encountered have pandered to this woman's vanity and insatiable appetite. Perhaps we missed something earlier that would make this an easier clue to answer."
"Ahhh, looking through my notes, looks like I may have been wrong. Ashamintallu was engraved on that plaque we found behind the giantess' throne."
He indicates for Vuloo to pull out the plaque.
Plate Transcription in Thassilonian:
“A gift for my Mistress Sorshen from her humble servant Ayandamahla, dedicated this celebrated day, the 25th anniversary of her ascension to rulership in Eurythnia. Present—Runelord Sorshen, Ayandamahla and her daughters Ashamintallu and Erixadallax, Lord & Lady of the Burning Bright, the Sisters of Charming & Delectation, and the Baron of Calamities, along with all slaves, servants, and supplicants in this, the Lady’s Light. May she reign unchallenged forever.”
As Braelex calls out notes on the specific panels, Andel lights up.
"That's no male wizard, Braelex, that's Sorshen involved in all that activity. See here on this panel, it looks like she's binding a succubus-like creature into a statue of herself upon a stone platform in the middle of a lake. This other panel in the middle depicts her binding a particularly powerful-looking succubus into what looks to be the scepter held aloft by the Lady’s Light. No idea if that has any meaning, but I find it fascinating."
Andel begins to take a rubbing of one of the panels.
Daghop would have had to make a second roll again - ill omen lasts for two rounds. Vuloo fires again on the lead boggard. Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (3) + 5 + 1 - 4 = 5 Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
That will retcon the kill on the ellie, then. Aidon, 1 more for your rolls.
Magma, you can measure it on the map. You may have to zoom out and re-enter to find it
Also, per my relatively new requirement for.combat, please post questions about the combat in discussion unless they're embedded in your 1 combat post you get between rounds.
"Rules? Boggard and trogs aren't the orderly sorts of humanoids. Raiding, savagery and cannibalism are in their nature. I kinda think this was, uh, made up on the spot," Andel shrugs.
"There are an awful lot of them gathering to watch, though. I'd hate to, um, anger them."
Looking around, you see that the boggard tribe is gathering to watch.
"I get the sense she's some sort of leader or religious figure by the inflection in their voices and the changing coloration of their skin when they speak her name. It's a sign of reverence, fear, or respect. I'm not certain."
He nods slightly toward the injured boggard, "This one to my right, I believe is preparing a croak. Boggards have the ability to invoke fear in their enemies with their croak, and at the same time alert their comrades. They can't do it often, it takes a lot out of them. Be wary of their tongues as well, they can entrap you with it."
Andel takes your message and attempts to communicate it as best he can.
Diplomacy Aid Other:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
However, the boggard doesn't move and squints a little more clearly at you. Andel translates,
"You not metal-wearing she humans, but you have knife they give us. Trog give that to you? You come from trog camp direction, but you say you want to fight them? How you prove that to us. Maybe we get Mama Bebella to decide."
He hefts his morning star in front of him and the other boggard's throat expands into a large bubble shape, not unlike a frog. It tenses it's powerful looking legs, but they look at you intensely.
"Uh, I think they want another answer, but I don't get the sense they're happy with the story we just told them."
Knowledge Local if you guys want info on the boggards themselves. Andel has the skill if someone wishes to "ask" him about it via rolling for him. It's in his spoiler
Andel translates for you. "Uh, it wants to know why we've come back ... it seems to think we're with the other band. But, honestly, it seems sleepy and confused."
Andel moves up next to Relan, setting him slightly to the left and behind the large warrior. He barks out in a croaking sound that you think at first is his nervousness causing his voice to crack, until you recognize consistent cadence and rhythm and realize he's speaking the boggard tongue.
Boggard:
"We come in peace ... err, no rather ... um, do not fear us! No, wait, that's not good either. Ah, hell. We're just looking for a way to the Lady. We know you've dealt with city folk before and think you may be willing to entreat with them again!"
"Um, I do ... mostly for my studies and interpreting what others brought back in their journals. Haven't actually ever talked to a boggard before, though," your scribe says hesitantly. You sense great trepidation in your quiet companion.
"It's not too far ... wonder why she never came to get it herself?" Andel ponders aloud looking at the wreck from the beach with the rest of the party.
Very sorry about the cold, my wife is picking up one too even though its in the 80s here... we'll press with the game, if you guys do dig it up, its another 500gp. Nothing earth shattering since you missed the one area (to get the "full"reward).
Looks like we're going with Andel ... stats are adjusted here using Vuloo's inputs.
"The Mushfens ... hmm, yes. Nasty swamp ... waterways cutting this way and that. Goblins living in the north, but closer to the Ladys Cape ... That's the area around the Ladys Light ... you'll start seeing other more native creatures. Lizardmen and frogmen and the like."
He steeples his fingers undr his chin. "There is a guy in Magnimaar who is an expert on the Mushfens. Has traveled them most of his adult life. Jasper Kandamerus."
I'll do a quick recap of the few remaining rooms in the derro complex, glossing over the minor guardians remaining ... anything specific you want to look/do in any of the areas of the Crow? No need to stop role playing, just letting you know that I'll give you the crunch this evening
Andel is furiously drawing and taking notes as he walks around the star shaped pedestal in the middle of the room.
"Fascinating ... simply amazing. Vuloo, come look at this. I think this may be an attempt by Azlanist to capture all the benefits of all the shards. I wonder what the Runelords' relationships were really like in those final days if she was developing something like this."
Recoiling from the party, Stink stammers out, "L-l-lord Baz, yes. Th-that him. You kill S-S-suzerain, too? B-b-big imp, wear crown. Mean like Baz, but hate Baz too"
Yes, they will. Note you have firing into melee penalties. I think you're good for cover. Will get a post up shortly. I'll give Fulmen a couple hours to get something in
Andel speaks back and forth with the mite for a few moments, shouting up the ledge and then finally turns back to the party quickly, nearly overturning the rowboat.
Once he rights himself, he says "Um, this one recognizes us from before and will escort us through to the stairs below."
Referring to his maps, Andel points out the entrances. "We know of 3, the underwater entrance by the Liza Jane, the primary entrance that leads up and down the entire crow or the seaweed hidden harbor entrance one level above the mites, which Fulmen has correct ... we left those giant water spiders alone in that area."
Yeah, that's right. Braelex has the loot tracker and is out for a few days while he moves locations. Relan, take your cloak and if your cut isn't enough once Braelez returns to figure it out we will assume you bought on credit and take it out of your next loot pile.
Yes, I did agree to do this. And I ever wrote them down somewhere. Been so long I have forgotten where. :( That is a problem with PBP and its slow pace. Let me see if I can find it. Along the same lines, I am pretty sure we have found some loot on this foray into the crow. No? Edit: I found this post from May13: Team, we have the following things still to accomplish. 1) Search the Crow for the next shard and report back to Sheila when we have found it. (reward 4 PP + shard) Note that we still do not know what kind of Ioun stone will tame it. 2) We have a request from Lord Heidmarch for any unusual/new Thasillonian artifacts. 3) Solve the mystery of the kidnappings -- report to Lord Mayor. And 4) A local alchemist named Aleric is paying 500 gold pieces per sinspawn, head that we bring him.
Nice catch, I changed the loot on the quest so up that 1k to 2k reward.
The only loot I am aware of is the secret stash that had the 2 scrolls of water breathing. May have been some other things there.
Looking back through the Discussion tab, I saw where Relan offered to take over chronicler duties and tracking quests, but I didn't see where anyone let him know what they are.
Aidon, do you have the old list? Should include kidnapping , undiscovered thasilonian knowledge, the next shard, and returning the pendant of souk.
This will be my last forced reminder of quests. From here on out, if you don't write it down and forget it ... Ya lose out.
The middle aged woman watches Aidon approach with apprehension and then her face conyorts into confusion as he speaks. Once she gets a look at the locket, however, her shoulders slump and she collapses to her knees in tears, holding the locket to her heart, whispering "thank you thank you thank you thank you" over and over again.
Once she regains a modicum of her composure , she , between sniffles, thanks you again saying, "I wish I could reward you for bringing closure to me, but I have nothing."
