Background:
There are a score of rumors surrounding Avric Kaijitsu’s origins. The tamest tale, and the one Avric claims as truth, is simply that Atsuii and Lonjiku Kaijitsu took pity on one of their servant girls who was attacked by Orcs on a journey and found herself with child. However, many say this act of charity would have been atypical for the Kaijitsus. The predominant gossip of Sandpoint is that Atsuii (already a known adulteress) took a monstrous lover as an act of revenge on Lonjiku, and Avric was the product of that coupling.

In any case, Lonjiku showed no love for the mixed blood child, often beating him for the smallest mistakes. Further infuriating Lonjiku, Atsuii doted on the young Avric more than her other children. Avric’s older sister Ameiko was apathetic about Atsuii’s attentions, but his brother Tsuto, the half-elf progeny of Atsuii, was incensed that while he was shipped off to boarding school, the family kept the “abomination” at hand.

In his ninth year, Avric’s life took a drastic turn. Atsuii fell to her death, though many suspected Lonjiku helped her. The family broke after the funeral. Ameiko and Tsuto argued, and Ameiko vanished into the wilderness while Tsuto made for Magnimar. Left alone with Lonjiku, Avric found his days filled with abuse and work.

While Ameiko would soon return to Sandpoint, she had little contact with Avric while he lived at Kaijitsu Manor.

The next five years saw Avric training at woodwork and hauling materials for Lonjiku businesses. The work made him strong, toughened him. It was not long before the youth joined in at the boxing matches the porters and sailors held at the docks. He showed talent, his form one of precise strikes, not simply a hammering fist.

A spectator at one of his more impressive victories pulled Avric aside after the match. Introducing himself as a student of the Monastery of Unfolding Wind, the spectator, a youth named Itsum only a few years older than Avric, suggested Avric’s talents could earn him a place at the school. Having a goal for the first time in his life, Avric saw a way out from under Lonjiku’s tyranny.

Itsum was only visiting Sandpoint for a month. When he departed, Avric planned to go with him, and having squirreled away the money he won from boxing, Avric would have enough for the long journey to Jalmeray.

Under the cover of night on the eve of their journey Avric snuck out of the manor and made his way to Ameiko’s tavern, the Rusty Dragon. Ameiko wished her brother luck on his journey and offered him a place for work if he returned to Sandpoint. Itsum began teaching Avric to control his movements and attacks on the journey, honing the young fighter’s innate skill.

Nothing travels faster than news. By the time Avric and Itsum arrived in port at Niswan, the city was abuzz with the news of a massive goblin attack on Sandpoint and Lonjiku’s death. Itsum suggested it was Desna’s hand that saw he and Avric out of the city before the attack.

Itsum brought Avric to the three Houses of Perfection and helped prepare the brawler for the three challenges all who wish to train there must undergo. In a race against a djinni, Avric found it within himself to run faster than he thought possible, narrowly crossing the finish line first. His physical strength and the training with Itsum meant that wrestling a shaitan was not much of a challenge. But when faced with the riddles of an efeeti, Avric found himself at a loss to find the correct answer. The masters refused him entry, but suggested he return when he had more knowledge of the world.

With Itsum returned to his training, Avric found himself alone in a foreign city with little of his gold remaining. As he wandered the streets looking for a cheap tavern or a trader looking for an extra pair of hands, Avric came upon a gang attacking a cloaked figure. Rushing to intervene, Avric made quick work of the villains, chasing them away after rendering the leader unconscious. As he moved aside the cloak to check on the victim, Avric found a half-orc woman. Alstana, as she was known, was a cleric of Desna and asked for his help to return her to her temple.

After seeing the woman safely home, Avric was offered sanctuary at the temple. What was to only be a few nights of respite turned into three years of religious and physical training. Though the instruction was not as specialized as that of the Houses of Perfection, the few clerics and monks that called the temple home helped Avric explore a variety of approaches to every battle so he would always be prepared.

During his time at the temple, Alstana became a surrogate mother. She had an extensive knowledge of orcish culture and showed Avric techniques to control his more violent impulses. Merging the orc and human sides of himself, brought a sense of balance to Avric. Alstana commemorated this achievement by tattooing Avric with a mixture of orcish symbols, butterflies, and sayings in Vudrani so Avric would have a reminder of how his heart, mind, and body were intertwined.

Having trained for some time, Avric returned to the Houses of Perfection for another attempt at conquering the challenges. The djinni and shaitan were of no consequence to him anymore, but once again the efreeti shamed him. Disheartened, Avric decided it was time to leave Niswan and travel. He left the temple of Desna without a word of goodbye to any but Alstana to whom he simply apologized.

His meandering journey took Avric across Avistan, and after a year he landed once more in Sandpoint. Seeking out the Rusty Dragon once more, Avric called on Ameiko for the job she promised years before. Though the two had not had a regular relationship for almost ten years, Ameiko provided lodging and work to Avric and over the next year they began to remember what it was to be a brother and sister.

Description:
Standing well over six feet, Avric is an imposing figure. Wearing animal hides and robes over his dark green skin, Avric is sometimes mistaken for a barbarian orc. He often keeps his shaved head covered with a bandanna or hood to hide scars left by one of Lonjiku's more violent abuses.

A wave blade hangs from his belt, easily accessible, but he often chooses to face threats with his fists and feet instead. He carries a shield whenever there is a sense of danger, but it stays tied to his pack in cities and camp.

While he is by no means slow, Avric does not tend to grasp complex issues easily. Those areas he has chosen to focus on however, he is an expert in and normally delivers his knowledge in a haughty manner, especially when around those who are specialists in many areas of study.

Player Background:
Jagael is my normal nom de plume. I've been playing PF for about 4 years now. I get to enjoy a weekly RL session, but the majority of my engagement is through play-by-post. I largely play on myth-weavers after three failed games on paizo boards from GM ghosting, but I've been searching out AP games where I can find them as I'm hoping there will be more commitment from everyone.
I am a pretty active poster. I am a player in four games (though two of those have slowed over time due to real life on the GM side) and am GMing another. I am not sure how many of the games will be visible through this link as some of the games are private.

Overall, I try to really engage who the character is in my posts. I know some use pbp as a creative writing outlet, but I tend to stay within three paragraphs for a post.
