Backstory:
Al A'ton was born among the Khel-Hadim of Dust Town. As a boy he would often venture into the sands, called there by his people's wanderlust. He did not think much of the legend of the Promised Land until a day in the desert when he met a talking lion. The lion had been hunting him, but it heard his lip-service prayers and instead approached him. They spoke for some time about Tefnut and the other gods, the place of living things, and the desert itself. After the lion left a priest of the clan approached Al A'ton and told him what he had seen, a boy conversing with a savage lion. Al A'ton told him that the lion was not savage, surely the priest had heard it speak, but the priest had only heard growls and roars. Al A'ton was blessed by Tefnut, the clergy took him in and trained him as a warrior of the people, teaching him how to survive in the sands even better than others of the People, schooling him in religion, and teaching him how to use the Khopesh, weapon of Tefnut. But the boy would not spend all his time in the sands, there was still his home in Dust Town. From the slum he learned how to sneak, open locks and disable traps, and how to pick pockets, though he had no skill for the latter.
As a young man he would ply act as priest and as knight of the post. He would not let himself be involved in the gang politics of the area, but he still made something of a living opening things best left closed. One day his sister by his father came to him, her husband was a unsuccessful con artist and owed an already significant debt. The viziers would would be coming soon to increase his penance to an unpayable level. Al A'ton took it upon himself to rob a merchant for the money to buy a number of links for his brother-in-law, he broke into his dwelling and took just enough coin to cover the cost. Buying a number of writs for simple tasks he delivered them to his brother-in-law, and saw that the conman completed them legally. The merchant tracked down Al A'ton some time later, seeking vengeance for his hurt pride. Al A'ton tried to explain but the merchant attacked. Reacting as the sands had taught him Al A'ton took the man's life. The next day, after setting his affairs in order Al A'ton went to turn himself in. He was surprised they did not kill him, and so the story begins.
Racial Abilities/Breakdown:
A nomadic tribe, the Khel-Hadim have lived in the desert for as long as anyone can remember. Gifted with a lithe grace and an almost preternatural insight, they have been considered some of the best survivalists in the burning sands. Acute eyesight has adapted them to the desert night while harsh upbringing has accustomed them to the desert day. Said to of once been ancient protectors of paradise, they have a handful of supernatural abilities including a great resistance to divination. As a culture they tend to worship Tefnut, goddess of moisture and dew, and are known to be calm, collected, and logical. They are not traditionally warriors but those who are tend to fight in light gear with spears and rawhide shields. They tend to be tall and light, with dusky skin, dark hair, and grey eyes. Both sexes wear makeup, notably eyeliner, and dress in loose fitting robes. Though they are familiar with horses and camels, most go on foot, a sign of humility, those who do not tend to be those with an inherent connection to their mount. They tend toward law and goodness.
