Bravery +2:
Starting at 2nd level, a fighter gains a +1 bonus on Will saves against fear. This bonus increases by +1 for every four levels beyond 2nd.

Armor Training 2:
Starting at 3rd level, a fighter learns to be more maneuverable while wearing armor. Whenever he is wearing armor, he reduces the armor check penalty by 1 (to a minimum of 0) and increases the maximum Dexterity bonus allowed by his armor by 1. Every four levels thereafter (7th, 11th, and 15th), these bonuses increase by +1 each time, to a maximum –4 reduction of the armor check penalty and a +4 increase of the maximum Dexterity bonus allowed.

In addition, a fighter can also move at his normal speed while wearing medium armor. At 7th level, a fighter can move at his normal speed while wearing heavy armor.

Weapon Training:
Heavy Blades +1
Starting at 5th level, a fighter can select one group of weapons, as noted below. Whenever he attacks with a weapon from this group, he gains a +1 bonus on attack and damage rolls.

Every four levels thereafter (9th, 13th, and 17th), a fighter becomes further trained in another group of weapons. He gains a +1 bonus on attack and damage rolls when using a weapon from this group. In addition, the bonuses granted by previous weapon groups increase by +1 each. For example, when a fighter reaches 9th level, he receives a +1 bonus on attack and damage rolls with one weapon group and a +2 bonus on attack and damage rolls with the weapon group selected at 5th level. Bonuses granted from overlapping groups do not stack. Take the highest bonus granted for a weapon if it resides in two or more groups.

A fighter also adds this bonus to any combat maneuver checks made with weapons from this group. This bonus also applies to the fighter's Combat Maneuver Defense when defending against disarm and sunder attempts made against weapons from this group.

Background:

Alphonse was born to Herman Rellington, a member of the Peoples Council who worked hard to properly represent the people’s interests, Ilita, his wife. They grew up outside the port city of Triela, close enough to the Chelish and Andoren border that he often saw skirmishes and their consequences from a young age. With his father often in Almas as a member of the council, he was raised by his mother who imprinted upon him a hatred of the Chelish. Coupled with what he saw of soldiers leaving his village and coming back wounded, sometimes victorious, sometimes defeated, his own prejudice against the Chelish grew.

In a move to show how much he cared about the equality Andoran he professed, Herman sent Alphonse, his only child, to the armed forces at age 10. Alphonse was excited by this prospect, having seen the men of Andoran's armed forces defending their border and wanting to do the same. This romantacised view of the army fostered a strong desire to succeed as a defender of Andoran.

Alphonse learned the art of the sword quickly and was quick to earn the respect of other young recruits. His father had tried to instill in him the need for the people chosen to represent their fellow men and women to be persuasive and strong, however Alphonse only learnt of the importance of the strength of leaders and their dedication to attaining their ideals.

As he shone above the rest of his cohort through his perseverance and a strong work ethic, he also quickly showed his natural aptitude for leadership. His ability to read situations and strategise at a young age was developed and he was noted by his superiors as a candidate for leadership.

In his first engagement in a training exercise, he quickly took command of the other members of his squad. He was quick to form groups with different goals for the skirmish, aiming to overcome the other team by breaking up his own and engaging from multiple angles, with the most important job being his own small groups of to hold off the brunt of the first charge while the rest came into their positions surrounding the opposition. He ultimately led them to a quick and decisive victory. His tactic had proven successful and would continue to do so in the simulated battles run over the first two years of his training.

Soon after his twelfth birthday, he heard that his father had given up on running for his seat on the People's Council and that his mother had given birth to a girl, Emeline. He was allowed a visit to his family over the course of a month where his father told him how proud he was to have him as a son.

With training from tactical masterminds, his initial recklessness in an attempt to end engagements quickly was tempered and his tactics began to take into account environmental factors. His plans quickly turned into complete winning strategies. His mentor, Commander Asaris Crowne, oversaw a Alphonse develop a sound tactical mind and also began to instruct him in the true art of inspiring men. He learnt that it wasn't just about being diplomatic, but that the art of speaking itself could truly inspire men.

As he finished his training, he was assigned a small team of men with the role of Corporal. When skirmishes broke out, he proved his mettle in battle as well, earning the respect of his fellows by taking the front lines and ensuring he was the one to claim objectives and take out enemy leaders. As a result, he quickly ascended the lower ranks within the armed forces.

After various engagements, Alphonse gained a reputation as being particularly cold when engaging Chelish forces. His hatred of the Chelish would be demonstrated by his refusal to take prisoners preferring execution in each such encounter. Unknown to him, he gained a reputation among the Chelish forces manning the border as a leader not worth engaging, though many dreamed of his capture.

This rise was met with some opposition by some members from all ranks of the command structure of the army. Alphonse was regularly shunted around by different superiors in an attempt to slow his progression. His deeds continued to speak for him though, no matter how remote his station. In one particular posting in the Veduran forest on a patrol route, his squad was ambushed by an angry group of fey led by a druid opposed to the lumberers in a nearby section of the forest. He reacted quickly, bringing the druid down with a couple of swift blows, the fey dispersing quickly having their leader slain. He was commended by his troops and word travelled back to his superiors as he came back from duty.

His abilities in battle were mirrored by a penchant for speaking and he also began to have an impact in the political sphere of Andoran. His duties guarding various members of the People's Council also started to come into play. His influence continued to grow as he got the attention of many prominent politicians with tales of his battles as he travelled with them.

His abilities in battle accompanied with his increasing influence provided the opportunity for a quick rise up the ranks to the position of Major. With such a sudden rise through the ranks, Alphonse continued to demonstrate a level of ruthlessness and presented a strong character in all of his dealings. With his military rank increasing, the missions he was being sent on no longer had him leading troops in skirmishes, rather he was sent diplomatic envoys. His lessons from Commander Crowne allowed him to demonstrate the appropriate behaviours as an envoy. His illustrious military career provided a platform for his work as a diplomat, though he had not had the same impact in his new role, he has started to realise that this is where the decisions are made.

He was recently assigned a diplomatic mission as a sign of good faith from the Andoran military for the People's Council. While this is the case, his enemies saw this as a chance to be rid of the Major for a time and halt his steep growth in the Andoran military.

Character Description:

A young, heavy set man who walks with confidence and and a wry smile. His green eyes pierce lesser man and he speaks with an eloquence not expected of one wearing the medals and insignia of the Taldan military. He keeps his black hair short, shaves every morning and maintains his equipment with diligence, always presenting himself in immaculate decorum.

In battle, he wears a full suit of armor emblazoned with the Eagle of Andoran and raises his sword with a roar, Justice, to inspire his troops and demoralize his enemies.

Outside of battle, he wears his parade uniform adorned with medals of bravery and honor and his insignia.

Personality:

Ambitious and calculating, Alphonse has been eager to get himself ahead. He has little regard for those who he leaves in his wake and will regularly work within a system to get himself as far as he can. He dreams of earning the rank of general in Andoran’s armed forces and protecting his homeland from the threat of their former Chelish rulers.

His experiences have formed the notion of the needs of the many requiring sacrifices of the few, who should then be acknowledged for their sacrifices.

He fears losing his station and seeing Andoran fall as a result. He often finds himself rallying against more conservative authority figures and has made enemies as a result of some of his more ruthless manoeuvring. He is easily convinced of the benefits of a cause, though can see through most lies and falsehoods that people use to try to get him on their side.
