Aldric was the eldest of seven children born to a minor provincial noble family. His early years were charmed, as he was being raised to someday inherit his father's lands. His father, Baron Sandrus Casternall, doted on his son, ensuring that he had tutors in a variety of subjects, including etiquette, literature, religion, and combat. Always the dutiful son, Aldric was an apt student and a born leader.
Throughout this time, Aldric was always as pious as his station demanded, although never overly so. He studied religious texts with his tutors and prayed on the appropriate holy days, but little more. Then one day, while he was out riding, his horse was spooked and Aldric was thrown and trampled. He lay unconscious and bleeding by a stream in a secluded part of his father's lands, alone. Then a vision came to him of a figure shrouded in light. The figure never said a word, but even in his unconscious state, Aldric felt his injuries being healed. He knew that he had some greater purpose to play beyond where his life was leading him up to that point. From then on, his life was changed. He returned to his father's manor, where he turned increasingly to subjects of religion and devotion to Amaunator. Shortly thereafter, the headstrong Aldric set out to join the church. His parents were confounded and displeased to see their eldest child abandon the life of nobility for service of the church, but continue to hold out hope that he will think better of it and return home. Once in the church, Aldric was initially viewed as an upstart, but his devotion was sincere. He was looking for ways to prove himself when he met Aenos Mar, and the mission she had in store seemed like the perfect opportunity to do just that, as well as to spread the light of Amaunator. |
