About Alatáriël Erithrahd

Background:
-How did you acquire your class? Never knowing her real family, as well as growing up seeing all her assumed family grow old and die caused her to fiercely cling to the idea of kinship. Once she escaped from Gaedren, the church helped get the young elf back onto her feet. Though it was the church of Abadar who aided her, her values led her to follow Erastil. She now stalks the city's underbelly hunting down those who would defile that which she holds dear: family, living off the land, and honest trade.
-How did you assemble your starting equipment? She managed to hang on to a little coin after getting away from Gaedren, and the church of Abadar showed her how to manage it and turn it into what she has today. Some of the first things she bought after striking out on her own are the tools she uses to enact justice.
-What's the worst event of your life so far? The day her "sister" died. Gaedren fed her to the alligator.
-What's the best thing that's ever happened to you? The job when she found the holy symbol of Erastil. Not only did it lead her to her calling, but it also lead to her being beaten so badly Gadren assumed her dead and through her out.
-How do others perceive you in social interactions? Aloof. Like other Forlorn, she hides a deep depression which is often perceived by others as typical elven disinterest.
-How assertive are you when making a decision? Compromising. Though driven, she has a long history of being told what to do that is hard to break. While acquiescing to the choices of the group, she sticks to her guns and has no problem reminding them of what her thoughts on a matter are.
-How do you feel when faced by setbacks? Self-abusive. While no longer flogged within an inch of her life for the slightest error, she still mentally berates herself when she feels that she has not performed to her perceived standards.
-Do you stay in contact with your family? What do they think of you? She has no memory of her birth family. Most of her "brothers" and "sisters" are still Little Lambs, and she hasn't heard from them since she escaped. She still has members of the church of Abadar that she maintains friendly contact with on a semi-regular basis.
-Do you have any secrets or conflicts from your past that might come back to haunt you? Her birth family, her childhood of crime, and her Forlorn depression could all have interesting future possibilities.
-How long have you lived in Korvosa and in what part of the city? All her life as far as she knows. She currently resides in South Shore, trying to find some sense of belonging among others of her kind.
-What is your opinion of the current state of affairs in Korvosa? She feels that Korvosa is plagued by all manner of scum and villainy, and she intends to remove that problem. She is far to focused on the small scale that she rarely worries much about what the royalty and politicians are up to.
-What is your connection (past or present) to Gaedren Lamm? For as long as she can remember, she's been one of Lamm's Little Lambs. That is, until she escaped. She's been trying to get over it, but you can bet that if she ever got wind of where he was hiding, he'd go strait to the top of her list of people who need to be removed from the city.

Alatáriël doesn't remember her parents. As far back as she can remember, she's always been one of Lamm's Little Lambs. She finds this unusual, in that though she was still a child, she had already seen almost twenty winters; long enough for her to have decent memories of her life. Looking back on it now, she's ashamed of her childhood. All her friends, her family, all of them either died on the job, at Gaedren's hands, or just from old age. All that time she just kept on, just like she always had. Until one day she was out removing some purses of their weight, when a farmer on his way home from market trundled past her in his cart. He was easy pickings. But Alatáriël didn't come away with what she thought she would. It wasn't a real bow. What was it? So she asked around until she found out it was a holy symbol dedicated to the god Erastil. She was told that Erastil believed in hard work, taking care of your family, and the simple life. It had a profound affect on the young (for an elf) elf.
When she returned much later than anticipated, and with much less haul than Gaedren wanted, she was punished. But when he found the holy symbol she had kept on her person, she was whipped literally almost to death. Gaedren, who thought he had killed the girl, dumped the body a ways away to taunt/throw off the Korvosan Guard. A priest of Abadar found the girl and nursed her back from the brink. The church helped shelter her, as well as helping her adjust to a life away from Gaedren Lamm. Though they tried repeatedly to convert her to the worship of Abadar, Erastil held to strong of a hold on her soul.
Today she lives in the South Shore district, attempting to find some solace among her own people, but much to her sorrow, she is beginning to find that she cannot relate at all to the flighty, otherworldly nature of elves not raised around the shorter-lived races. What does keep her going is following her faith in Erastil by hunting down those she feels violate his commands (which in Korvosa's less-effluent districts is quite a lot of people). One day she hopes to find a husband who she can start a family with and settle down. But at the moment, she's got a job to do.

Physical Description:
Standing at 5'6" and weighing in at just over 115 lbs., Alatáriël isn't as wispy as some of her kin. She has a pale blonde hair and bright, completely orange-ish eyes. When she is focused on a task, she carries herself with supreme confidence and a true sense of purpose. Yet when she is without direction she feels lost, and her insecurity shows through in her demeanor. Her body is hard and toned, the body of a professional athlete. But beneath her pristine silver and green armor is a body covered in the scars of a very harsh life. Her back in particular is a criss-crossed mesh of scars where she was whipped without mercy. She also has a bite scar on her left leg from where Gaedren threatened to feed her to the alligator. She does not wear these as symbols of her rising above her past. She covers them up as much as possible.

Personality:
Detached. Alatáriël harbors a deep sorrow rooted in her upbringing; not only in the cruel and violent life she was forced into at the hands of Gaedren Lamm, but also of the experience of not really aging and continuing to live on when all those around her got old and died. The lack of her earlier memories also is a cause of concern for the young elf. One might also call Alatáriël convicted. Her faith in the teachings of Erastil was what kept her alive through being whipped to the edge of death. It's all she has now. She will clean up this city.

SPECIAL ABILITIES
--------------------------------
Aura of Good (Ex) The power of Alatáriël's aura of good (see the detect good spell) is equal to her paladin level.
Detect Evil (Sp) At will, Alatáriël can use detect evil, as the spell. Alatáriël can, as a move action, concentrate on a single item or individual within 60 feet and determine if it is evil, learning the strength of its aura as if having studied it for 3 rounds. While focusing on one individual or object, Alatáriël does not detect evil in any other object or individual within range.
Elven Immunities Alatáriël is immune to magic sleep effects and gets a +2 racial saving throw bonus against enchantment spells and effects.
Elven Magic Alatáriël receives a +2 racial bonus on caster level checks made to overcome spell resistance. In addition, she receive a +2 racial bonus on Spellcraft skill checks made to identify the properties of magic items.
Forlorn (Race Trait) Having lived outside of traditional elf society for much or all of your life, you know the world can be cruel, dangerous, and unforgiving of the weak. You gain a +1 trait bonus on Fortitude saving throws.
Keen Senses Alatáriël receives a +2 racial bonus on Perception skill checks.
Religious (Campaign Trait) You found a holy symbol of the god you worship today while on a job for Gaedren, and intrigued by it, you snuck off to attend services. When Gaedren found out, he beat you within an inch of your life and broke your holy symbol. Your faith let you block out the pain, and you escaped his control and took shelter in the church, where you spent the rest of your youth. You gain a +2 bonus on concentration checks.
Smite Evil (Su) Once per day, Alatáriël can call out to the powers of good to aid her in her struggle against evil. As a swift action, Alatáriël chooses one target within sight to smite. If this target is evil, she adds her Cha bonus to her attack rolls and adds her paladin level to all damage rolls made against the target of her smite. If the target of smite evil is an outsider with the evil subtype, an evil-aligned dragon, or an undead creature, the bonus to damage on the first successful attack increases to 2 points of damage per level Alatáriël possesses. Regardless of the target, smite evil attacks automatically bypass any DR the creature might possess.
In addition, while smite evil is in effect, Alatáriël gains a deflection bonus equal to her Cha modifier to her AC against attacks made by the target of the smite. If she targets a creature that is not evil, the smite is wasted with no effect.
The smite evil effect remains until the target of the smite is dead or the next time Alatáriël rests and regains her uses of this ability. At 4th level, and at every three levels thereafter, she may smite evil one additional time per day, as indicated on Table: Paladin, to a maximum of seven times per day at 19th level.
Weapon Familiarity Alatáriël is proficient with longbows (including composite longbows), longswords, rapiers, and shortbows (including composite shortbows), and treats any weapon with the word “elven” in its name as a martial weapon.
