PERSONALITY:

Sunamber an outgoing sort of fellow, always seeking a distant new vista he has never seen. He is honest with honest people, and takes no joy in harming those around him. He never kills someone who doesn't have it coming... prefers to offer mercy. He is a consummate 'maker of deals'...even with evil people if they are willing to be reasonable. He will not allow the innocent to be harmed in his presence. He does not believe in torture... but grievous intimidation or lying to the dishonest is "all part of the price for being an Ass", in his opinion... so he will walk a shaky line of - decency and hard as iron - callousness. The fact is... he does care about the misfortunes of those around him... and he wants to help. He does believe in people getting what they deserve... so if you cheat and steal and lie... he has no compunction about doing the same right back at you - though these are not his ways. He is young and does have an eye for the ladies... Most important to him is his magic, he wants to be as powerful as he can be. He is curious about the world wishing to travel and see its wonders and face its challenges. Thought still not fully an adult, he is a very serious and driven young man... pursuing his goals ...almost obsessively. He does not think of himself as a hero... but always seems to end up doing ...'the right thing...'

He does have one thing that makes him VERY angry... He will not stand to see half-elves mistreated in ANY fashion!!! He feels ‘his people’ are the disposed of the world looked down upon and mistrusted because they are neither of elf nor of man… but in his opinion Half-elves are the best of both worlds and… ‘are just as good as any other race’. Yeah, he has a BIG racial pride chip on his shoulder… and more than willing to prove it if his worth is called to question.

Mostly Alaerin is angry and frustrated at the unfairness of life to half-elves and he is power hungry… not for his own aggrandizement... but he seeks the power to change the world for the better {in his opinion} to give the race of half-elves, ‘The Elani’ - as he calls his fellow half-elves, a racial identity and a homeland to call their own. HE will change the world to give ‘The Elani’ a place to call their own where they can hold their heads high and proud of their accomplishments and dignity showing the world their worth with their power and skill in what they build in peace.

It is a dream of his that drives him to succeed. Woe to anyone who gets in his way!

He seems very lean and wiry. He is very young for a Half-elf... not yet fully mature, though very serious in his demeanor. Alaerin has sharp aquiline features and almond shaped 'elven-eyes'. He's fairly handsome in a rugged weather-beaten sort of way. His hair, worn continually long and uncut, is always a tousled and wild, but sometimes...mostly when he's is being studious he ties it back with the green hair scarf his mother made for him as a child. His Elven heritage is strong in his ... maturing features. His eyes are intense and seem to flicker with inner fires. His voice is soft, never harsh, almost sensuous. The bridge of his nose and cheeks are...lightly frosted with freckles that are slowly fading with maturity but are still evident.

Alaerin has the Tatoo of a Golden-Reddish Phoenix surrounded and trailing flames on his left forearm.

Sunamber's style of dress is varying shades of blue or red. He wears modest clothing not the richest he can afford but not peasant rags either. He is fond of cloaks and wears them quite often.

HISTORY:

”The Wayward Son”

Alaerin was born in the River Kingdoms in the Town of Riverton. His father was none other than the demagogue of the town and cult leader of the church of HANSPUR, Brother Naerel ‘Twice-Born’, the River Preacher (CE male elf fighter 1/cleric of Hanspur 6). Alerin was one of the many children born from one of the shrine’s chosen female attendants like many of the numerous half-elves in Riverton that Naerel frequently bestows “the love of the River God” upon. Alerin’s older step-sister is Sister Maella, shrine attendant (N female half-elf cleric of Hanspur 3) and as Naerel’s oldest daughter, Maella, a devoted follower of Hanspur - since childhood; is the head attendant of the shrine.

Alaerin was raised primarily by his mother, Paria. Paria was a pretty maidservant of a Galtan Noblewoman and was forced to flee Galt as all the nobility… and sadly their innocent servants became the target of the Red Revolution! Paria was shot with an arrow fleeing the revolutionaries on the riverside of the East Sellen. She fell into the river and was carried away by the current. Assumed dead by the revolutionaries, but she did not die. She washed up on the shores near Riverton. A fisherman and partial devote of HANSPUR found her and saved her life caring for her. Thinking her blessed by HANSPUR he took her to Riverton where she took up residence part in desperation and part of of genuine gratitude. But the faith of HANSPUR never set right with her… though she was taken in by the handsome and dangerously charismatic Naerel ‘Twice-Born’. Eventually she bore him a child… whom she named Alaerin which means in broken elvish - ‘free-spirit’}. But as the years went by she became more and more disturbed and fearful of the fanaticism of Naerel’s cult.

Alaerin was an active child having a sharp mind and an insatiable curiosity of the unknown. He also loved to work with his hands and create crafts of his own making. He was particularly fond of metal crafting and jemstone cutting. He collected quite a collection of brightly colored and mostly worthless ‘gemstones {translation: colored rocks and worthless crystal clusters} that caught his attention. Sometimes Alaerin would search the woods for travelers seeking to see if any had gemstones for sale… not that he could buy them but he only wanted to see them. Eventually, he actually began to look for the ruminants of bandit attacked trader caravans to see if any valuables were left undiscovered especially gemstones. He spent many hours exploring the rivers and forests around the floating community of Riverton. He spent much time at the smithy watching the local blacksmith work his trade making simple minor metal necessities of the community. Slowly Alaerin picked up some of what he learned watching the smith work his trade. Alaerin was always awe-stuck with the sight of magic or any sort… but always became afraid of the ‘miracles’ his father and step-sister cast on behalf of the river god HANSPUR as they ’felt’ wrong.

On one of his forest ranges in the forest Alaerin found a wrecked trader’s caravan the looted remains of a bandit attack. Searching the remains he found a mostly burned book that felt odd in his hands it had script in it that moved and ‘felt’ magical. It was a partially destroyed spellbook left behind from the slain wizard who once owned it. It was annotated in common as it was an apprentice’s book and Alaerin studied it whenever he could trying to understand how the magic worked.

Tragedy struck when Alaerin was only 10 winters old his mother went mad from his father’s religious fervor after learning some terrible truth. Paria committed suicide in a fit of desperation. Naerel claimed she had been ‘called’ by the river god HANSPUR and had been blessed with a need to join him. Maella accepted this, Alaerin never did, never accepted the faith of HANSPUR, and NEVER forgave his wicked and in increasingly mad father.

As Alearin grew up he felt less and less connected to the community that he felt had been the death of his mother… he bagen to spend long hours away from town wandering the wood. He wanted to see the world around him… and felt sorry for the victims of the bandit raids that his father never seemed willing to do anything about. Alearin added it the growing ‘crimes’ he blamed his father for. He began to take it upon himself to try to help travelers in the woods to avoid the bandits and monsters… {mainly trolls} that wandered the riverlands. Whenever a hunting party to putdown trolls was organized… Alearin was always volunteering to help. Though young he grew to learn an independence and a courage to stand up for what he believed to be right at first as a means to get back at his father, but eventually because began to believe a man must stand up for what he believes and oppose those who hurt others or spread fear & fanatical unreason.

At age 16 Naerel insisted Alaerin join the faith and had him dragged to the river and undergo the water-born rite: a baptism where dedicants are held underwater until “the spirit of Hanspur” touches them and they fall unconscious, at which point the River Preacher lifts them up and forces them to cough out the water they’ve inhaled. But Alaerin did not wake… he had apparently drowned so his young body was given to the river.

But Alaerin did not die. To him, as the water filled his lungs and consciousness fled him he suddenly felt calm and a light grew in his mind’s perspective and a voice did in fact call to him… a woman’s voice. But to this day he can’t recall what was said to him. He woke on the river shores of Sevenarches at the edge of the Wilewood just north of Kyonin.

At first uncertain where he was he entered the Wilewood. Eventually he came across a small crudely made ruin of a shrine - a shrine to the Elven Goddess YUELRAL. He was immediately drawn to the simple tri-crystal emblem of the Elven Goddess of magic and noticed to his surprise his frosty blue eyes inherited from his father, had changed hue. Now he had bright amber eyes… a hue that matched the one small un-cut amber stone left in the small natural water basin of the shrine. There were many ‘gifts’ left in the shirne for the goddesses favor most of them rotted or weathered to useless bits of flotsam but among them was a rusted and badly pitted elven curve blade. Alaerin took the amber gemstone and the rusted curve blade as a sign and thanked the goddess for sparing his life. He took the stone and mostly worthless curve blade and decided to make his way in life on his own from then on mastering magic. Alaerin returned after a long trek back to Riverton… but waited until night to enter the town unseen and took all his wordly possessions which in the ramshackle town had been left alone; he did not have much anyways but recovered his prized partially burned spellbook.

Never having been anywhere else Alaerin returned to the Wilewood in hopes of finding the shrine again… but never did. He took up residence in Sevenarches as a rustic woodsman. He was found and befriended by a Tree Ent named, Olmbark. Alaerin was still basically a child lost in the woods and he told Olmbark of his life and his fleeing from the madness of his crazed and evil father. Olmbark took pity on the half-breed child and showed him to an old abandoned Elven Treehouse Home where Alerin took up residence, finding a hawk already nesting within the treehouse ruins. Alaerin has claimed the surname of Summerhawke for his birth season {a tradition among those who are born bastards out of wedlock} and in reference to his hawk pet whom he wishes to make his familiar.

There Alaerin studied his spellbook continually trying to master the magic within. Alaerin lived learning to take care of himself mostly on his own from that point on. He built a small makeshift smithy and after many failed attempts a forge. There through trial and error he made his weapons and armor – reforging the elven curve blade and refining his skill in many attempts to self-teach himself how to forge his own gear. All the whiled he continued his wanderings in the woods, helping travelers when he could, opposing bandits he discovered and hunting trolls when they made a nuisance of themselves. Eventually, Alaerin decided to become an adventurer to see the world beyond the forest and the rivers of the River Kingdoms.

Equiped Alaerin left Sevenarches and travelled the length and breadth of the River Kingdoms learning to survive in the vast wilderness, fighting with the Mivon Aldori sword duelists, joining briefly the militia of the Cordelon even fighting a bout or two in the Gladiatorial Arena of Tymon.

At length Alaerin learned that there was so much more to the world than only what was in the River Kingdoms. To that end he has left the tumultuous River kingdoms behind to expand his horizons to the greater world outside.

He has taken up the Wizardly name of SUNAMBER as his public name as he seeks to continue his magical studies and mastery of both martial and magical.

Unknown to Alaerin his father, Naerel, has been informed by the spirit of HANSPUR that Alaerin ‘Summerhawke’ lives and in his madness his father is seeking to have Alaerin returned to determine how his wayward son survived without Hanspur’s favor…

Alaerin, calling himself <SUNMABER> has found his way to Sandpoint… a small coastal village.. in hopes of starting a new life here and growing his wizardly talents by lending his skills and knowledge to the town’s defense and resource… he’s looking to establish his wizardly ‘Tower’ here as he learns to master his magic and martial skills.
