About Akhmose Stoneguard
STONELORD PALADIN
Stone becomes sand, but still endures. --clan motto
Appearance: Akhmose is a stout dwarf, with flowing beard and hair, and the bronze skin of the desert dwarves. Though his arms and bearing show his skill at arms, he has a gentle and thoughtful manner. He wears a carved stone ankh, symbol of the old Osiriani gods.
Background:
The Stoneguard clan remembered. They still remembered the old gods. They remembered their past, their failures, their duties.
The Stoneguard clan of the Pahmet dwarves had served the Pharoahs from the earliest days of the Empire. Many of the clan had served as wardens of the tombs, protecting them from grave robbers and keeping vigil. One of their number, now known as Thutsis the Unfaithful, broke his vows and took a priceless magical gem from one of the tombs. It is said that he fell victim to a curse and became an undead himself. Other members of the clan volunteered their service to the Pharaoh, but he exiled them from the city. For many generations, members of the clan, known as the Dutiful, offered their services to later Pharaohs, but each time they were rejected. Akhmose's father revived the old tradition when Khemet I restored the Pharaonic rule, and now Akhmose himself has come to Wati to offer his service.
Trained as a mason and stonecarver, Akhmose took a paladin's vows before an ancient mosaic of Wadjet before journeying to Wati.
Personality: Akhmose is thoughtful and cautious, but brave. He is friendly (for a dwarf) and looks for the best in people, although he does not forget a betrayal. He believes in attempting a peaceful resolution of problems, but knows how to wield a weapon to protect against a threat. ("Silk before iron.")
why in Wati: Akhmose has come to Wati to renew the clan's traditional offer of service during the Pharaoh's next ceremonial visit. While waiting for an audience, he has brought a few of his carved stone statuettes to sell in the market.
Development: Planning to go into the Living Monolith prestige class. He would like to redeem his clan's honor and restore their place as guardians and protectors.
NPCs known:
Aric, a human street urchin, who Akhmose caught trying to pick his pocket, but rather than punishing him, he hired him as a guide. Aric knows some secret ways into the tombs.
Zeilah, an old woman who sells flowers and perfumes in the market, who is in fact a Thuvian alchemist. She liked his carvings and let him use part of her stall to display his wares.
