10-minute background:

Step 1: Write at least 5 background and concept elements that you feel are important to the image of your character. These can be a concept overview, a list of important life events, a physical description, a personality profile etc.

1) Concept: A secretive emissary of the elves is searching for information regarding a possible threat to the Tiri Kitor.

2) Background: A seasoned and far-flying owl rider for the Tiri Kitor in the Witchwood, Aelion's owl Bryn was recently shot down in the Giantshield Mountains by a sinister black arrow. To subsume his grief and find a use and direction for his anger, Aelion has been sent into the city by the elven Council to see if he can learn more of the rumors of a growing threat to the Tiri Kitor.

3) Description: Aelion has the tanned skin one might expect in such a climate, and his light clothing suggests that he is native to Elsir Vale, or has lived there for some time. Dark-haired and green-eyed, his arms are bare and marked with dyes that identify him as one of the Tiri Kitor. He carries a bow and quiver slung across his back, and long hunting knives in his boots and at his belt.

4) Personality: Aelion is not as reserved as the reputation of the reclusive Tiri Kitor would have one believe, mixing easily with others. Still, he answers few questions about himself, secretive by habit, if not as haughty as many elves. He has a calm demeanor, prefers to live in the moment, and often seems to be smiling at some private source of amusement. The exception is when anyone mentions the owls of the elves; his smile vanishes, then.

5) In his many years of flying far and wide as an emissary of the Tiri Kitor to other elven enclaves, Aelion has learned much of the world. (Breadth of experience feat) A fine archer like all his kind, he has trained long to fire arrows with great accuracy even into the midst of a melee. (Precise shot and Perfect strike feats)

Step 2: List at least two goals for the character. At least one of these goals should be one that the character has, while another could be one that you, as a player, want to see developed over the course of the game.

Goal 1) Discover if there is truth to the rumors of a new threat to the elves, and determine its extent if possible.

Goal 2) Avenge the death of his owl, Bryn.

Goal 3) Come to trust in his companions.

Step 3: List at least two secrets about your character. One is a secret the character knows, one is a secret that involves them but that they are not actually aware of yet. This will help me in creating plots that centre around your character. I will also be creating a third secret which you as a player will not be aware of, so expect some surprises!

Secret 1) Aelion was a member of a faction in the Witchwood that wished to stage a coup against the Council in Marth Forest, believing their rule to be overly conservative. Their plans were never realized... yet.

Secret 2) The death of his owl Bryn was no accident. What did the message package he was carrying from the Witchwood to Marth Forest say, and did it matter that it arrived late? Who wanted him placed in Brindol?

Step 4: Describe at least three people that are tied to the character. Two of them are friendly to the character, one is hostile. Feel free to use characters mentioned in the Player’s Guide.

NPC 1) Thysiel Trenniol and Houka, fellow scout and his owl. Thysiel is Aelion's best friend, and despite belonging to the same faction, encouraged him to take the task for the Council following Bryn's death.

NPC 2) Lady Maribel Kabiri - the head of the Weavers' Guild in Brindol, who has traded increasingly with the elves of the Witchwood. Aelion has sometimes dealt with her directly, and they share a mutual respect.

NPC 3) Counsellor Bhaermel Lyorsae of the Tiri Kitor - A deeply conservative and mired in tradition member of the Council in Marth. Aelion feels he has been instrumental in leading the elves into stagnation. Bhaermel does not appreciate that view.

Step 5: Describe three memories, mannerisms, or quirks that your character has. They don't have to be elaborate, but they should provide some context and flavour.

Memory 1) The aerial hunt through the jungle canopy that led to the death of his owl, Bryn.

Memory 2) His best friend Thysiel's entreaty to do as the Council asked, and leave the Tiri Kitor behind for now. Too grief-struck and angry to question why Thysiel would ask that when it could only aid the conservative faction, he has thought of it often, since. Surely it was not simply a means to heal his wounds...

Memory 3) The view of the world from far, far above. People really are insignificant, and their worries laughable in the face of nature's uncaring grandeur.
