Abu comes from a tribe of Yerbira nomads. His mother was a spriritualist with a deep connection to her ancestors, his father was a half-orc raised within the tribe though not of Yerbira decent. Unknown to Abu is that his father is descended from the ancient pharaohs of Osiri. He taught his son the language of his fathers, but Abu thought little of it. Upon his birth Abu's mother prophesied that his ancestor had chosen him to undo a great wrong done to them. She had no idea what that meant and further questioning brought no answers. Intent on fulfilling this prophecy she schooled Abu rigorously in the spiritualist's art much to his childhood dismay.
Abu was not a good student for his mother. He showed some aptitude, but he was always trying to do things in his own way. Often frustrated with her son his mother would send Abu to go work with his father. For his father Abu was a joy. He was strong, and quick to listen. Abu was often put in charge of watching the families herds and learned to be observant, always watching for the wild dogs that would often attack unless they were driven off. Abu also learned to negotiate from his father by using wisdom over charm. This he learned was the best method when trading with the other tribesmen. Abu's greatest joy however was when his father would teach him swordplay. His father was a magician with a blade. The whirling stances and flourishes made it seem like a dance. Abu yearned to be able to fight as his father did. Abu did learn well, mostly relying on his natural strength. He couldn't match his father though. One day frustrated with both his mother's lessons and his inability to match his father Abu left the tents and climbed a nearby mountain. He reached the top near nightfall and fearing he'd lose his way of he tried to return in the dark Abu decided to sleep on the summit. As he lay trying to sleep a spider bit him. Terrified he jumped to his feet an began to run and in his panic tripped and struck his head. He began to hallucinate. His mother's teachings and prophesy as well and his father's instructions in swordplay played through his mind all accompanied by an overwhelming pain. Abu wished he would die just to end the pain. Then he as he was about to give up breathing he heard a voice in mind. Abu your mission is not yet accomplished, you may not join us. But it hurts so much! I am Heptnah, I will go with you to give you the strength to do what must be done. And Heptnah that did do with him. Heptnah spoke to Abu throughout that night. Whenever Abu was sure he could endure no more the voice would sternly encourage him to continue, reminding Abu of his duty to his family and of the prophesy his mother had been given. In the morning nauseous and disorented Abu made his way back to the tents. After his parents had seen to his health they asked him what had happened. Abu began to recount His night, but sure he'd imagined the voice he wasn't going to mention it. That is until Heptnah spoke to him again commanding him to tell his mother of Heptnah's involvement. Abu's mother was immediately overjoyed. She'd struggled to get Abu to link to a spirit, but now he had one. She walked Abu through how to manifest the harrbored spirit and with some effort Abu was able to make Heptnah appear. The result was not at all what she had expected however. Instead of the usual phantom an elegant blade appeared on the ground. When Abu's father reached to pick up the blade it simply passed through his fingers. This is the form I will take when you call me, but I will not be handled by any other. I am here for you and no other Confused by this turn of events Abu's mother worked to help him adapt what he had learned of her craft to this different manifestation. Abu also worked with his father honing his skill with his new blade. For a few months Heptnah endured this patiently. He explained that it was indeed good for Abu to learn, but he was insistent that they could only tarry for so long. Soon Abu packed his things and left for Wati where Heptnah said they must go. Before they left Abu's mother gave him a tattoo calling on the old gods to protect her son. Since his arrival in the city Abu has searched through the necropolis not sure what he is looking for and Heptnah refuses to reveal just what they must find or do. He's been forced to learn to disable the many traps that the ancients left there. Heptnah has saved Abu's life several times during their excusions and even taught him to do some minor magic that would normally be beyond him burning their foes with a symbol Abu does not know. Still they are frustrated with their lack of progress and so Heptnah has encouraged Abu to seek out allies who are looking to explore the necropolis further.
Personality:
Abu is a thoughtful young man. He likes to listen before he speaks, but he is not afraid to give his opinion, he just likes to have time to think things through. That is except when it comes to bugs, he is terrified of bugs and especially spiders. Appearance:
Abu is an imposing figure. He stands 6' tall and weighs a well muscled 215lbs. He has the brown skin of the Yebira tribesmen and the broad features of a half-orc though they are not as pronounced as they are in is father. He is usually garbed in the loose clothing favored by his people. Heptnah:

Who Heptnah is is somewhat flexible. I think Heptnah having been a protector of Abu's family anciently, but having failed his duty would be fun and appropriate. Wish List:
- Mithral armor either full plate or breastplate, but I can use anything medium immediately and would take a feat for a set of heavy if it was worth it.
- All the usual items, headband of wis, belt of str, Amulet of natural armor etc. - Spellguard Bracers/Tunic of careful casting - Ring of spell knowledge. |
