In-Game Utility

The Pathfinder Society is an important part of both the world of Golarion and the Paizo community and your Wayfinder compass will combine the fun of having a real Wayfinder at the table with you along with it acting as an “other” object during Organized play, affording it’s holder with a free heal between encounters.

Very excited for this! Been waiting since Gen Con!

Huzzah!

Is this a serious functional compass, or is it a toy compass like you'd find at Walmart or other big-box outdoors/camping section that would be dangerous to rely on?

Well, that's worth a look. A very lovely looking piece of craftsmanship. I always enjoy seeing things that bridge that gap between fully immersive role-playing and sitting around a table.

Also, I really hope this is not the same as the item that is handed out as the Wayfinder award to a VERY select few individuals. From what I can remember of the one time I got to see one, I'm fairly sure this is not the same model. I'm just voicing my concern is all, and I expect to have that concern quickly resolved.

Now, over to the Kickstarter page, completely sidetracking what I came to the website to do. LOL!!

Grand Lodge

Agreed, what I remember of the award it is different, but I've only seen the photos on blogs.

According to the Kickstarter page, it's a fully-functioning compass, made of a brass and zinc alloy.

It's a serious functional compass, though as an Eagle Scout I would recommend using something more rugged for your orienteering courses.

It is not! I've bought the Order of the Wayfinder online in previous years.

Won't make any promises about what future Order of the Wayfinder recipients might receive though...

There shouldn’t be an apostrophe in the “its” of “…affording its holder…”.

  • Got the Kickstarter item card at GenCon.
  • Signed up for the kickstarter information email.
  • Slept in day after Christmas because I could.
  • Checked my email mid-morning, and found an email that this had launched.
  • Go to the Kickstarter page and the "Early Bird" special is sold out.

There was no informational email a few days or weeks ago saying when the launch date would be.
There was a very limited number of "Early Bird" specials.
Overall, very poorly done.

Although this is a gorgeous product and merits the attention. It feels like a 'Pay-to-Win' scheme due to the in-game play benefit which turned me off immediately.

Missing out on the $10 discount doesn't bother me much, but I can agree the communication wasn't great.

Completely missed the in-game benefit. Not really thematic, but most groups I have seen have had options to fully heal between battles anyway, so this could just remove some bookkeeping. Hopefully the benefit is better explained in a future PFS update.

This Wayfinder simply functions as an "other" item as listed in the official PFS Promo Boons page:

https://paizo.com/organizedplay/perks

It's a single 2-action heal outside of combat in PFS games. You can get the same benefit from dice or a keychain or other stuff, and I have to remind people with merch that these things even exist.

Ah, completely reasonable then.
