With a map completed and the fey defeated, the party is free to return to the stump where they met Viltydus.

"You are alive! A task successfully completed!" Viltydus declares. "A portion of the forest easier to navigate and one that is now safer to travel for the people of Port Valen. Return there for the night and get some rest. I will meet you at the edge of the town with the coming of the morning tide."

Upon returning to Port Valen, the Pathfinders find that the locals are eager to here of their exploits and are willing to offer 100 gold pieces for the map or a well-made copy of it.

The PCs are able to get an uninterrupted 8-hour rest at the lodge after having completed their second task involving combat.

The next morning, with the arrival of the incoming tide, Viltydus can be found just outside of Port Valen’s borders. As the Pathfinders gather round, the fey holds a small map of the shoreline. A red circle surrounds a location on the map several miles to the north of the town.

Viltydus draws a line with their finger along their map, tapping the marking circled in red. “My focus lies with the Forest of Trials and with the adventurers who brave its dangers to reach Valenhall. Those adventurers, however, need a safe place to rest their heads before facing their destinies, and Port Valen has not been as safe as it needs to be. A group of monsters have laired in an abandoned fishing village not far from here, and their predations have caused the people of Port Valen great harm. I task you Pathfinders to travel to this forsaken village and destroy the evil creatures that threaten these good people. Bring back evidence to prove to the people of Port Valen that you have succeeded.”

"Whatever has holed up in the abandoned village should not be underestimated," Viltydus cautions. "I have seen many a burgeoning hero get cut down prematurely after trying to stop the attacks alone. I recommend speaking to some of the locals about what they’ve seen and heard about the threat and using that information to prepare for battle."

Before departing, Viltydus produces a wooden box. "I offer you this," they decree, opening up the box to reveal a collection of six [i\lesser healing potions[/i] for the taking.

Each PC can attempt a Diplomacy check to Gather Information or a Perception check to listen for rumors and gossip about the monsters.

PCs recover some Hit Points as a result of an 8-hour rest.

I trust the players to keep track of resources, including healing spells and potions. Nevertheless, I suspect that there are enough resources remaining among the party to get everyone back to full health.

Secret GM Rolls:

?: 1d4 ⇒ 2

Through various conversations and discussions both those engaged and those overheard, the party is able to get a description of the evil threatening the village.

The Pathfinders gather tales of gaunt, unnerving, and unnatural creatures with a grasshopper for a head that are held above the ground by buzzing insectile wings. They blatantly present their unnerving forms to frighten mortals, preying on their fear of creeping, crawling, and buzzing insects. Their claws are said to be sharp enough to rip and tear flesh as easily as paper. Some claim the beating of the creature's wings is believed can create a maddening, droning sound that numbs the minds of intelligent creatures.

Rusputin hears word that these fiendish creatures have arrived from the north and are acclimated to the wintery climate of northern Arcadia.

Based on this information, each PC may attempt a secret check, using either Religion or a Lore skill that a player believes may be appropriate.

Please post your chosen skill and appropriate modifier. I will then make the check and provide the necessary information.

Gnimish is a primal sorcerer so he has heal as a signature spell. Since we're getting 8 hours anyway, he can expend all his spells since he'll get them all back the next morning. His actual healing is a bit lackluster though! Also no Battle Med. :)

Squish alone recalls stories of gaunt, insectile fiends known as wihsaaks, which are sahkils that torment their foes by focusing on a widespread fear of insects and creeping, crawling vermin.

Ages ago, when this cycle of the multiverse was still adolescent, a cabal of psychopomps who already felt bored and restrained in their role of ushering souls to their ultimate resting place rebelled against their station. It was this corruption of the cycle of souls that spawned the first sahkils. Legends in Arcadia say that couatls and sahkils both rose to prominence as the first mortals walked on Golarion. Most sahkils lurk on the Ethereal Plane, but they frequently invade the Material Plane to torment mortals and spread terror.

Unlike their more subtle sahkil cousins, wihsaaks don't lurk in the periphery and instead directly engage their targets, using their unnerving buzzing to disorient and terrify. When encountering multiple foes, wihsaaks attempt to spread fear to everyone before slashing at them with their devastating claws.
Droning Distraction◆ (auditory, divine, evocation, incapacitation, mental) Effect The wihsaak beats its wings rapidly, creating a buzzing drone that numbs creatures' minds. Each creature within 100 feet must attempt a DC 23 Will save. They are then temporarily immune for 1 minute.
Success The creature is unaffected.
Failure The creature is confused and stupefied 1 for 1 round.
Critical Failure The creature is confused for 1 round and stupefied 2 for 1 minute.

Having finishing their preliminary work and investigation, the Pathfinders can make any purchases they need before setting out for the abandoned village.

Please list any purchases made in your next post.

Also, how does the party wish to approach the abandoned village? Does any player wish to change their chosen Exploration Mode?

After being healed by teammates, Basag goes to Tonfer and asks if he can use his workshop to fix his steel shield.

"I hope you don't mind letting me use your shop to let me fix my shield."

Fixing Steel Shield:
DC 15 Crafting to Repair: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21 Success, +10 HP to Steel Shield

DC 15 Crafting to Repair: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23 Success, +10 HP to Steel Shield

"Thank you so much, Tonfer! You're a nice guy!"

Instead of pan and fork, Basag goes for his loaded sling staff this time. He doesn't want to get clawed at this point. If needed, he will swap back to his usual pan and fork when they become close to him, or back to stick and shield, if needed.

I am buying minor reinforcing rune for his steel shield, 75 gp. His Steel Shield now has Hardness 8 HP(BT) 64(32).
