Hearing the words of the crier Landriss accepts it as instruction.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

Landriss Nuellan |

How many shots are we to take?
To hit: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
To hit: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19

Ok, I think I have it, but
I now need to factor in the political factions within the nobility, there never is just one, there is always two or more of them
(and maybe even a neutral/independent faction in the mix).
So the next question is How many political factions are there in the nobility along with their size, who they back wanting to be King/Queen along with their agenda?
Also How much support the people give to some of these factions? As I'd like to know if the Crown princess is in a strong position or in need of other allies?
Know(Nobility): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17 Factions
Know(Nobility): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17 Crown Princess's position and need of allies
I read a lot of the Record of Wortenia War novels.

** spoiler omitted **
You can take three to start with. The other two hit no problem, but off the bull's eye.
"Practice will take another ten minutes, then the women may practice," says the crier.

Landriss backs off of the target nodding. Not bad. Then he watches the people around the area.

Landriss Perception check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
You see a few other archers, some are women. They are all at the age of battle-readiness. There are a few elves competing, as well as a few dwarves -- but they are armed with crossbows. There are no halflings here to compete, but you do see a half-orc with a good short bow. Most everyone competing is dressed in leather jerkins. Some of the archers are wearing hose, and a few have expensive baldrics. Most of the women are in skirts, but there are a few practiced women archers in hose. Aside from that, you don't see anything out of the ordinary. You were too distracted by the competition to notice something amiss.

Countess Arathea Hartshorn of Nelvinaar
Countess Vichella Ephemduar of Carnelis

With all three her shots, Robyn steadies her breath and aim, trying not to be distracted by the sights and sounds around her
Shot 1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Shot 2: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Shot 3: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Your third shot hit the bull's eye.

Knowing the houses is fine, but I asked about factions, think political parties within the ranks of nobility, some factions will either bank on certain royals taking the throne or certain ideals they pursue for the nation (a faction could be elitist, while another is more for the commonfolk).
I could see maybe about 4-5 factions at most like; one backing the princess, one backing the prince, one independent/neutral, maybe one backing another family to take the throne and maybe one that is disloyal to the nation and or under influence from a foreign power.

1. The Tories (those for the Prince)
2. The Conservatives (for the Duke)
3. The Hedonists (Under influence from Keoland)
4. The Scribes (a political party related to the Church of Pelor)
5. The Liberals (one backing the princess)

Sorry, to make you wait for a time.
Traditionalist faction for Prince.
Alternative faction for the Duke.
Princess faction for the Princess.

No problem, everyone gets busy at times
Oh right, what faction is the Fake Prince in?
If he is in the Princess faction it means a few things
and in not it means other things based on the non-princess faction he's in.
worst part is the Hedonists would have its members disguising as members of the other factions for showing their "loyalty" to the nation. They likely have most the Traditionalist and Alternative factions (likely to stir the two into a civil war to weaken the nation) and maybe a few members in the Scribe and Princess faction, just to keep better tabs on their actions.
Well all my question are likely building up things in the nobility area of this game and likely making some ideas for future hooks within the game.

The Fake Prince is in the Alternative faction.

Darn, The Post monster ate my post from last week.
Going over the info Alkaid thinks
So we have two "Royals" out and about, and from different factions. The head of the Princess faction and a subordinate in the Alternative which is lead by the Duke. Is he trying to keep tabs on her?
Well one answer could be preventing the other factions from killing her and then marrying her, to seal the deal on his hold of power, since Marriages between high nobles the Man take control of the house. Though if the Princess married a lower ranked noble like a Baron or even a commoner provided she's the only royal heir left, then she'd have the throne and crown.

Okay, you all here it. An army of orcs coming to besiege the tournament and looking for roasted boar. The orcs number about twenty and with them are five timid looking goblins.
The orcs are using axes, and the goblins are using javelins. The orcs ride on wolves, the goblins on war dogs. They are holding torches in their left hands, ready to burn down any flammable buildings.

Landriss Nuellan |

Landriss notes the force of orcs, and goblins, approaching and moves over by one of the tents. He readies his bow but waits until the enemy is within proper range. Short bow so 60'
Attack with bow if/when I get a shot? Orc or goblin, targeting one with a torch if possible.: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
damage if I get a hit?: 1d6 ⇒ 5

[dice=Attack with bow if/when I get a shot? Orc or goblin, targeting one with a torch if possible.]1d20 +3

I can roll Initiative real quick. Of course position is everything.
EDIT: I bought a map, I'll be posting it shortly.

Alkaid Yaffa Leona Aiba |

Alkaid sees the orcs, with a thought out attack.
As attacking a festival when guards are relaxed and folks are without weapons or armour
"Oh dear....
Alkaid turns to the princess and says
Your highness, Please take shelter as we have some unruly guests joining the festival."
Alkaid without her armour or great sword, she readies the sling she hid on herself. and grabs a few stones from the ground.

EltonJ |

Here's a map of the tournament. I set up where you'd be in the tournament. Robyn, Alkaid, Jediah, Landriss, you're all there. I posted the JPG of the map on my google drive along with the .psd. If you need the psd, pm me.
Initiatives:
Alkaid's Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Jediah's Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Landriss's Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22\
Robyn's Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Orcs Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Goblins initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Please note the .psd file allows you to position yourselves strategically.

You hit one of the orcs. He falls off his warg.

Though a stone from a sling might not hurt as much as one from a bow, it is still a weapon to defend oneself in a pinch, Alkaid lets a stone fly from her sling to an orc's head,
Ranged_Atk: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
damage: 1d3 ⇒ 2
And it appears the stone may of flown right into a Orc's howling mouth and into the throat making it choke on it.

Plus you rolled a critical strike. Roll to confirm!

EltonJ |

Is there an orc I can fight?
One gets off his warg and comes towards Jediah with a huge waraxe. :)
Slings are handly little weapons
Also did my roll actually have an Orc choke on a rock, of just get hit in the head with it
Yes.

Alkaid Yaffa Leona Aiba |

I can imagine an Orc or two having a bit of a questioning look as one of their comrades is choking on a stone that went flying into it's mouth. As that is not an great honourable death in a fight, but humiliating death by choking on a stone that just happened to fly into his throat.
Alkaid lets another stone fly
Ranged_Atk: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
damage: 1d3 ⇒ 2
and smacks one right in the head.

Landriss Nuellan |

Landriss tries again, maybe the orc that just hit Jediah!?!
to hit: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (11) + 3 - 4 = 10
But completely misses....

Landriss Nuellan |

Landris checks Jediah's wound, quietly saying a few words. Casting Cure Light Wounds. CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
