Daggerdale locations
Anathar's Dell
A small farming community, which is also the home of the mines of the dwarves of the Brightblade clan. Anathar’s Hall is a popular inn with travellers on the journey south to the other Dales. The dwarves have small temples to Moradian and Dumathoin and there is also a shrine to Chauntea. The population largely resisted the Zhent occupation and were treated harshly as a result but the community has bounced back since the rebellion.
Black Switch
A farming village with a blacksmith, a millstream, mill and a small, newly remodelled inn and brewery, called the Ruse's Mage and shrines to Chauntea and Lathander. This and the town's name go back to an old tale of a farmer who scared off an orc band by holding an ordinary black switch in the hand, pretending that it was a wand and he was a mage, and threatening to blow the orcs all the way back to Gruumsh, if they didn't disappear. They did, and the tale passed into local legend.
Castle Enneth
A small walled city with a fortified keep. It was used as a base by the Freedom Riders during the Zhent occupation and they maintain a small outpost and a small shrine to Tempus there still. The city buildings are largely still in good condition and some new residents have moved in though there is plenty of room for more. The Freedom Riders patrol from here up and down the length of the Tethyamar Trail between Dagger Falls and Anathar’s Dell.
Dagger Falls
This is by some distance the largest town in Daggerdale and its seat of government. It was also the heart of Zhentarim occupation of the Dale until Randal Morn reclaimed his rightful rulership of the Dale in the Year of the Gauntlet (1369 DR). While the Zhent menace is never too far away, the threat of imminent reprisal has now passed and the town has largely recovered. It has most amenities that would be expected of a city of its size, including Lathander’s Light, a temple, as well as shrines to Mielikki, Eldath and Tyr. Other notable landmarks include the Constable’s Tower, site of a constantly-raging magical cataclysm, and Eagle’s Eyrie, a rocky knoll that overlooks the town and is sacred to the Brightblade clan of dwarves.
Dagger Springs
A small farming village that was completely taken over by the Zhents and its occupants slain or driven away. A number of Dalesfolk have resettled it since the overthrow of the occupation. The tiny, newly opened Hope Springs tavern sits alongside a smithy and a granary.
Goldfields
A relatively large farming and freshwater fishing village that was completely taken over by the Zhents and its occupants slain or driven away. Since the overthrow of the occupation it has been resettled and is starting to find its feet, though the fish population is minimal after years of overfishing by the Zhents compounded by a failed magical experiment that caused much of the spring-fed lakes to dry up. With the aid of priests of nature deities this has been reversed and hopefully the fish stocks will rise in the coming years.
Green Orb
A relatively prosperous farming village but one that the Zhents populated with loyal farmers from the Moonsea. The political situation here is delicate because any of the occupants are ambivalent at best to the overthrow of the occupation and the community is closely monitored. It has several miles of fruit orchards that contribute towards a schnapps distillery and the local tavern, the Schnapps Queen. The spirits have a well-deserved reputation for quality that sits alongside the equally well-deserved reputation its populace has for unfriendliness towards outsiders. The small temple to Bane that was built here was destroyed by the Freedom Riders but the Black Hand still has a loyal following among the villagers.
Gwathburg
An ancient castle that has stood for several centuries. It was once home to a lich - the Gwath the keep is named for - and numerous vampires. It is believed to be still filled with undead, though its occupants keep themselves to themselves and do not interfere with life outside the castle walls. Provided this remains the case the Daggerdalefolk are more than happy to give the place a wide berth and leave them to their demesne.
Kellet
A small city destroyed during a red dragon attack in the Year of the Worm (1356 DR). The buildings and city wall were turned to rubble, with only foundations remaining, and it has lain unoccupied ever since.
Liethen's Hills
A tiny farming village destroyed by the same red dragon that laid waste to Kellet in the Year of the Worm (1356 DR). All of the buildings were totally devastated and it lies unoccupied. Tavern rumours claim that the ruins are haunted.
Nettle
A small village of richly fertile farmland that is Daggerdale’s breadbasket. Its population largely resisted the Zhent occupation - and suffered for it - but it is now thriving once again since the return of Randal Morn. The Nettle Creek stream flows down from Upper Nettle and powers the largest grain mill in the Dale. The newly rebuilt Nettle brewery is already doing excellent trade and has an inn and taproom attached. The village also boasts a large shrine to Chauntea.
Serpentsbridge
A reclusive mage from Scardale has recently settled into a previously abandoned building near this main crossing of the Dagger River. The handful of farms nearby lay empty after the Zhents drove off or slew the previous occupants and they have not yet acquired new owners.
Stonehome
A totally decrepit village that was once home to the workers from the nearby quarry in the foothills of the Desertmouth Mountains. The quarry was exhausted in the Year of the Grimoire (1324 DR) and with minimal land suitable for either growing crops or grazing it was abandoned fairly swiftly thereafter. It has long been a favourite haunt of bandits and goblinoids.
Upper Nettle
A tiny village consisting of half a dozen cattle ranches. The land here receives less rainfall and is less good for growing things than Nettle just a few miles downstream but it is great for grazing.
