I generally prefer the drake, because I think with a skilled pilot you can overcome the slowness and the beefier guns end combats quicker. Not something I feel super strongly about, though.
Yuqab is good at lots of stuff, as you might expect from an operative. He's got full ranks in piloting and maxed out dex, so gunner or pilot are his best slots, but can also do science, engineer, chief mate well, or captain moderately well.
Ash would also prefer the Drake wanting the better firepower, and expecting the pilot to being able to handle the slightly slower aspects.
Ash is best at Gunner and can handle Engineer, Science Officer or Mate, but probably not as well as some others. Can also pilot, but we definitely have better options for that role.
