@Robert: The link is not working for me, for some reason. Just so you know.
I signed in to the site, but it insists I stay signed in to work, not really sure how you got yours to do it. I don't think it matters, once I started to look I found the basic rules So I've started looking at them for the crunch. The idea would be human (probably VARIANT HUMAN TRAITS) barbarian, his background would be 'local Hero.'
More importantly I've got an Icon named Taldo the Tanner. He was originally designed as an NPC class, working for the local Butcher. He would help with the butchering prosses, slaughtering the cattle and then taking the hides as payment for his work. A simple lad, good with a sledgehammer and a knife. He seemed like the type of 'local' fellow who may want to help his hometown, Hommel.
If Critzible didn't mind working with someone new to 5E and willing to give up a little information about Hommel, (like the name of a butcher or tanner he could work with) I'd be happy to build him.

Wow! I did not realize this existed. Heading to Temple of Elemental Evil could be worth learning a new system. May try and see what I can come up with!

Hey Critzible I'm seriously considering a barbarian, just a local kid, a tanner by trade, just wants to help as best as he can. The site Albion listed helped a lot, but I don't have a full copy of the rules. Is that ok, or should I sit this one out?
To be fair, I may go cleric if there is a need for healing. I'm not too picky on rune knight, I know 5e paladins are really good at fighting

Sorry fatmanspencer I saw you were talking about Cleric, but I had gotten distracted by Albion, The Eye's post and I didn't correct my own in time.
I'll get it right on the next list.

I just didn't want you to be swayed from something if you thought I was a fighter when I'm pretty sure imma go cleric.

At the bottom of the first page of Character Creation, where you select the sources and whatnot, you can choose to make your character Public. Then when you are on the character sheet itself, if you click the 'Manage' button next to your picture, it opens a tab on the side. Under Share you can find a public link you can copy. And that should be it ;)

Taldo the Tanner Ok, this one seems to work. With the crunch here, I'll get the fluff on his Paizo page here in a little bit.

For characters with lower rolls: While I don't know what they can get, I'd recommend something for them so the power imbalance isn't too large. Like a bonus feat or the like for anyone, who after racial abilities, doesn't have a stat at 16.
Taldor, for example, rolled a 13 as his higher stat. That is pretty damn rough. But with a bonus feat, and with being a human, he could get it up to 16. For example...13 base. +1 variant human. +1 athlete. +1 tavern brawler. That would give him a respectable 16. and some very fluffy abilities as a barbarian.
Just throwing the idea out there.

Interestingly enough, with that submission the party has 2 martials (paladin/barbarian), 2 arcane (artificer/warlock), 2 divine (druid/cleric)
Now, of course paladins are also divine, and artificer's are kinda martials. But still, as categories go, it's funny how the submissions fell into pretty equal categories thus far.

Boram the Burglar |
Artificers are also defacto skill monkeys
I was going to ask if we needed a professional burglar. 'cause, I know a guy...

Albion, The Eye |

Ill probably wrap it up monday.
Sounds good!
Out of curiosity, how big a group are you planning on Critzible?
Critzible wrote:Artificers are also defacto skill monkeysI was going to ask if we needed a professional burglar. 'cause, I know a guy...
I actually think we could use one :P

I actually think we could use one :P
In all seriousness, both Taldo and Boram are well developed characters that I think would be easy to adjust for 5E, if one would serve better than the other I would be happy to play either. However, I do not wish to step on Grumbaki's Artificer's toes.

Don't feel like you are stepping on my toes. My submission hasn't been chosen! If you want to play an artificer, go for it.
Mechanically, I think that the rogue is stronger. The "problem" with Barbarians is that they can only get to use medium armor with their class abilities. With dex12 that isn't ideal. But a rogue? You can focus on the only really important stat...dexterity. With a 15 that isn't the worse start. Grab a good feat at lvl4 (like second chance) and it wouldn’t be too bad.

Sorry that sounded wrong, no way I'd play an artificer. But I would play a rogue, I just need a reason for him to be in Hommel...
Critzible I'm changing my applicant from Taldo to Boram, any recommendation why he'd be in Hommel? I've included his original backstory. I obviously would need to change the name of the city he's from; but could leave the story as is, or I can simplify it, or totally get rid of it and start over. Mabe I can change Glimmerhold to the same dwarven town as Kardin Shieldshatter and was coming to visit an old acquaintance?
Any opinions?
Boram’s father looked at him in that serious way when he expected to be listened to. His baritone voice resounding serious and gruff; his thick red beard taking on a life of its own bobbing and shifting as he spoke.
“Before they became nomadic to quickly escape prejudice and tyranny; Before they learned how to sail the seas and rivers; Before they became the favorite slave of the ‘big races’; Before they were quantified and qualified by the humans as hairfoot, tallfellows and stouts; Before all those things your people were burglars.”
This was not the first time Boram had heard ‘the speech’: it isn’t even the first time he’s heard it from his God Father, Harsk. Harsk is not even the first person he had heard it from. At least that’s what Harsk told him, it had been Boram’s mother. He barely remembered his mother, Bellis the burglar. Back then he didn’t know she had been a famous burglar, Boram doesn’t even remember the speech coming from her, but Harsk swears it does and Harsk is not a dwarf given to lying.
To Boram she was his mother, his entire world. He remembers her holding him and feeding him, and tucking him into bed. He remembered the first toy armor she gave him. He remembered she had to go to work. She and Harsk and Sable Company, there were bills that had to be paid. She left him with Harsk’s clan, Harsk’s own mother watching over Boram as nanny.
Hursk continued with his litany, blue eyes shining as he spoke the words in a singsong way reminiscent of Bellis:
”Not just common criminals and foot pads, not pickpockets or con artists; they were burglars; the finest to bear the name! Trained to get in places and back out without detection. Hired to sneak in and remove a specific item or sometimes hired to sneak in and leave an item. And I’m not talking about being hired by nare-do-wells, criminals or thugs. I’m talking about being hired by Dwarven kings and Elven councils, even the greatest human wizards considered Halfling burglars friends and companions.”
Harsk paused for affect. The same way he did every time he repeated the litany. Boram remembers the first time Harsk ever told it to him. It was when Harsk returned; the sadness in his face, her gear in his pack and a story about giants. Which Boram heard the full details of, years later; when he was old enough to understand. But that night Harsk set Boram on his lap, in front of the roaring fireplace. Tears in his eyes, rolling down his cheek and then his red beard, and recited to him, in honor of her last wishes.
”Yes when most Halflings were willing to sit comfortably in their Halfling holes smoking their pipes and talking about gardening there were a few, a select few, which had wanderlust in their blood. While most Halflings were making a habit out of too many meals there were those making a living out of evading traps. Where most Halfling were looking for as comfortable life as possible, there was a small percentage looking for a life of adventure and glory. Those Halflings, those burglars, are who you are descended from; don’t ever forget that my son.”
Boram was born to an adventuress Named Bellis, sometimes called Bellis the Burglar. She was one of the founding members of group of adventurers called 'Sable Company' who were based out of Glimmerhold, a small dwarven city located within Nirmathas. in the Mindspin Mountains. The founding member was a dwarf ranger named Harsk. Botram’s father was a bard named Lem, who had joined Sable Company, for a time, but left the group over a dispute with Bellis. Borum never found out whether his father knew Bellis was pregnant or that he was born.
Boram was born there in Glimmerhold and when he was weaned his mother and god-father Harsk, along with Sable Company returned to work, leaving Boram with Harsk’s mother Kotri His nanny. While Bellis and Harsk were away Boram would play for hours in his toy armor, pretending he was a burglar like his mother. After one fateful adventure in the Hold of Belkzen, when Harsk returned he returned alone, the adventure had been a failure, Sable Company had been attacked by a group of Hill Giants. It was almost like the giants knew where they were at. Bellis was killed by giants along with two other members and on was MIA. With the loss of four adventurers and a key leader in Bellis the remaining members split up andwent their own ways.
Harsk dedicated the next fifteen years to raising Boram. To honor Bellis’ wishes he saw that Boram was loved and cared for, raising him as his own son. He also saw that Boram was trained as a burglar, teaching him what he could and hiring the finest lock-picks and trap-springer’s he could find to teach him what he couldn’t. When Boram was in Glimmerhold he was being instructed by his many tutors but most of their time was spent in the mountain, tunnels and caves; learning the life of and adventurer from Harsk. By the time Boram was eighteen Harsk felt he was ready for some independence.
As Boram came of age Harsk decided that he would leave Glimmerhold again, making it easier for Boram to strike out on his own. Harsk had decided to reform Sable Company, so he headed off to find old members to see if they were interested. He asked Boram not to follow because he still blamed himself for Bellis death and could not have Borams death on his hands. He encouraged Boram to head out on his own and find a group of adventurers his own age and to blaze a trail of his own...

"Mabe I can change Glimmerhold to the same dwarven town as Kardin Shieldshatter and was coming to visit an old acquaintance?"
I think that would work well, and I'd be more than happy to linked backstories in that regard. I left Kardin's backstory as towards where he is from purposefully vague, given that I'm not sure what is around this town.
One idea could be to have Harsk be Kardin's uncle. It would be just close enough relationship to have Kardin and Boram know each other and to have a mutual tie in. Plus, having Boram come to meet up with his 'cousin' would be neat.

@Robert Henry: The core start is a wedding. However Halflings roam the lands as travellers. The castle being built is a great opportunity for alot of workers and opportunists. Though Hommlet is considered a smaller backwater in a larger kingdom.
The best would be you know Either Burne or Rufus or somethinf that would pique your interest like Nulb the Pirate/Bandit thorpe.

Boram the Burglar |
Hmmm, normally Boram advertises as being able to find things that are lost. I'm happy to be friends or acquaintances with Burne or Rufus, though I don't know anything about them. Also not sure what the pirate/bandit thorp is.
Curious about the 'Rogue Bard' spoiler. One of the other things I like to do with characters, is work an instrument into their backstory so they can play to entertain or to amuse themselves. Would we be able to trade the 'deck of cards' for a lute and let him play the lute? I wasn't sure what skill would need to be used for that or how to pick it up.
I also have the 'stats' on Boram's page if you'd take a look at them.
Edit:Happy to change his backstory however we need to make him an easy fit for the game :)

Boram the Burglar |
Thrope is like smaller then a village
Burne and Rufus are the defacto new lords of Hommlet, thanks to their Adventurous exploits in a recent war and began thier career after the Battle of Emery Meadows the last stand of the Cult of Elemental Evil. They took out one of the last bastions of the cult
Any chance Boram would have heard of them and journeyed that way to see if they, or someone they knew, were interested in joining a new group? Maybe his mom had known them?

I think for my character ties I'm coming back after being gone for a while, having been a recluse growing up due to other kids not really playing with the nearly blind demon child.
My God may infact be figuring out who and why my parents left me in care of the local church, who I am now a cleric of. Perhaps rumors of them being adventures who died near by or left me as a sacrifice.
What church/deity is in this area?

fatmanspencer |

The Church of the Golden Goddess (a Monotheistic Faith) and the Old Faith.
Thier are powerful beings and philosophies Such as the Old Gaith [Nature Worship, Demon Lords, Archdevils,Fey Lords, Great Old Ones, Raven Queen mother of death]
So would that be like https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Waukeen
?

Basically Think Catholicism for the Main Religion and each race has a different name for the goddess.
Then you have Worship of nature in the Old Faith.
Cults of Demonlords, ArchDevils, Feylords, The Great Old Ones and The mysterious Witch Goddess the Raven Queen.
Basically the Old Faith is tolerated but all in all most civilized races worship Taiia. Though Dwarves, Elves, Gnomes, and Halflings have other names
