After reading through the Campaign Info section and making a few changes (you don't need to go looking for those changes but knock yourself out if you want), there is one fairly big thing Valentiine and I disagree on that I wanted to bring up:

I am a self-acknowledged rules lawyer. This means that 1) I am more than happy to answer rules questions, and 2) please feel free to question anything that seems out-of-place. If a monster has a special rule-breaking ability I will tell you as much (without giving any details you haven't Knowledged!), and occasionally the rule-of-cool might make an appearance, but I generally like to stick to Rules As Written.

Yep, looks good. Divided by 5 gives each of you 227 gold and 5 silver.

Now's a good time to talk about Oleg's Trading Post as a, well, trading post. As long as you don't go crazy, I'm not going to bother tracking his inventory and liquidity-- you aren't the only ones who pay him visits, after all. We can assume his stock contains anything you need that's non-magical and not made from special materials. Magic items and other specific stuff (like a mithral chain shirt) he'll have to order specially, so those items will take 1 week to arrive.

That's reasonable. Adela I think both scrolls are only on your spell list so you take them.

One of us should have the potion of CLW in case we need to administer it to get our healer back on her feet.

Those only proficiant with simple weapons should probably take some of the darts to have a basic ranged option in a pinch.

So at 1 pt per day (2 with Complete bed rest) it would take Erik 4 days to fully heal (2 if doing nothing but resting). It'll be 3 days of onset before I have to start making saves for Red Ache, so some moderate downtime would be a good idea

It takes Adela a little time to properly set up, but once she's familiar with what she has to work with she provides some proper healing.

Remember that with a Heal check to provide Long-Term Care, you can double the normal effects of resting. Adela unfortunately doesn't make the first one so overnight Erik receives only 1 point of Dex back, but with her success Erik recovers 2 more points in the second 8 hours (total of 3). This would put it at about mid-afternoon and leaves you with 8 hours of travel time the next day before needing to make camp, if you want to take it.

Rhiann's disease is a little less straightforward. Without magical effects like remove disease, you'd have to wait for the 3-day onset to elapse before you can even try to cure it. However, I'm happy to let Adela use that nat-20 to help Rhiann, so in 3 days Rhiann will get a +4 to her Fort save (and won't take any penalties until then).

That's awesome. So we might take Mimek to meet his tribe, but otherwise go light and rest at Oleg's for the next 4 days, to make sure we're not somewhere it'll be overly detrimental if (worst case scenario) I failed the save for the disease.

I apologize if this part seems a little hand-holdy. What happens in this cave is heavily dependent on the decisions you've made along the way, and we've reached the point where you get to see how your actions determine the shape of this little microcosm of kobold politics.

So if it seems like what's happening doesn't require you to be here, that's only because it's the culmination of what you've already been doing.

Is it okay if I change my background skill from Lore (Evocations) to something like Lore (Bandits) or something like that? I had that in an earlier version of the character that didn't have Spellcraft trained, but it's kind of redundant with Spellcraft. After I bought that up I forgot to change the background skill.

Unfortunately identifying magic items is a no-retries use of Spellcraft that you can only attempt once per day. So technically no, it doesn't allow taking 20.

I won't hold you to it, I promise, and recognize especially in the thick of things, like being in the middle of a dungeon crawl, a check is going to be required. I more was hoping to expedite the matter since we're hitting the end of that particular quest and know you'd probably want to move on.

I'd forgotten it was a no retries check because every game I've played--and ran--just auto-IDs magic items just to save time and aggravation--especially when PCs are nowhere near civilization to have a storekeep identify the things you couldn't. Houserules usually rely on the odd identify or legend lore to get a command word or fully, properly understand the nature of an artifact, but generally everyone can tell the shiny super-sharp sword is a +1 weapon, etc. Indeed, before this, I'd actually forgotten RAW you have to ID items at all. I'll adjust, and might have Dare pick up the identify spell when she levels.

Question since indeed we do have to ID items: since we ARE in the wilderness without convenient lore experts, are any magic items we fail to identify just useless to us, can we try to figure out what they do via experimentation, and/or will we find opportunities to identify them eventually?

You can always try using them to determine what happens. Things like potions can be identified with the sip test method, and craft alchemy can be used for alchemical items. Leveling and adding a point in the appropriate skill would give you a recheck, and I'm sure we come across the occasion arcane or divine caster who might be willing to identify things for a fee or a favor.

It fits with the remote Outpost feel of Kingmaker but some things that tend to be standard run of the mill City campaign might require some outside the box thinking.

The way I've always played and run, a magic item you can't identify is essentially useless-- you can always put it on and see if it does anything passively (prompting the GM to say something like "You feel like you can balance and pivot easier than before: +5 Acrobatics" or whatever) but since a command word could be just about anything, activated abilities are pretty much non-functional.

It's one of the reasons why just about every spellcaster I've ever played puts at least a few ranks into Spellcraft.
