I wanted to get people's input before acting. I was hoping to get free entry into their main base of operations and not just an abandoned fort. I think that we should attack them now that they are divided but before they have a chance to notify the others cultists about our presence here on the island.

Are people alright with attacking them now?

I'm a little confused about what you were hoping for; based on the DM's latest post, it sounds like this abandoned fort IS their "main base of operations"?

Either way, I suppose attacking them now is as good an idea as any.

If you want to attack them now, you can each have a Surprise Round action and then I'll roll Initiative.

I am good with jumping them now. We have them split up, we get a surprise round and we prevent them from contacting other cultists. It does not really get any better. :)

So people please put your tokens on slide #4 and enjoy a surprise round.

An early heads-up that I'm going to be away next week (around the 15th to the 20th).

Being tricksy is no way in the same moral camp as CDG helpless targets. There is just no way to white wash it.

That being said it is game so don't worry about it overly much. We will not hold it against you (but your deity might). ;)

I don't think Hei Feng will care. Again, I've never seen the rule played that way. Some say ending the suffering of an enemy could be an act of kindness.

"No way to White Wash it?" So lying to someone, and then attacking them when they don't expect it, and killing them when they turn invisible to retreat is not in the same caliber as finishing off their minions, so they don't come after us.... noted.

"Could be"???

Heck, the term is literally French for "strike of mercy".

I call shenanigans on Jhaeman's reasoning, if not her ruling; adventurers are killers, always have been. A bird-man's gotta do what a bird-man's gotta do.

If these people got back up, they'd probably try to hunt us down - or worse, make their way back to Razmiran and have the equivalent of a 'Salman Rushdie' put on us!

Ting Tang wrote:

HAH. Hei Feng sponsors his own (dis)order of Antipaladins (and if ever I were to come into possession of a Boon allowing me to play a CN Antipaladin, he's exactly whom I'd go for)!!!

Are you joking? I thought you were older than me, which should mean you'd be more familiar with him than I.

All I know about his writings was his novel, The Satanic Verses, caused the then-Ayatollah of Iran to put out A HIT on him in the 1980s; All he did was write a book, and people wanted to kill him for it. He spent years in hiding, like a terrified, male, real-life Carmen Sandiego.

@Ting - My character really did not know what Aglanda was going to do after turning invisible. Frankly as a player I was shocked that she was so easily killed. I thought we were going to be able to question her after knocking her out. That would have definitely been more helpful than killing her.

In terms of in-game moral conduct please direct your comments at the GM. I should have resisted the urge to get involved in the first place. My mistake. :)

I probably am older, I dropped out of college in '82 to join the real world. His novel, The Satanic Verses, was first published in September 1988. By '88 I was working about 60 hrs a week, so I didn't do a lot of news, let alone reading.

Being very busy with real life I hadn't read much until I had the opportunity to go back to college in 2000. I asked a friend who was a literature major what I missed, they recommended Robert Jordans 'Wheel of Time'. So I started there and have picked up a few modern writers, but I'm starting to read stuff from the eighty's and ninety's now.

Cool, I hadn't meant to call you out, I was just pointing out our other activity and tings interaction with it. When you posted about my comment in game I couldn't resist the urge to post here.

Since the 28th my mom had been moved from the hospital, to a nursing home and back to the hospital due to bleeding. It wasn't caused by the covid or phenomena but was exacerbated from the blood thinner she was on from her heart rate being up (due to the covid) at the hospital. So I've been going from the hospital back home, then back to the hospital, trying to post in-between.

In game, when combat was over, I knew we weren't ready to move on but I didn't want to not post. I figured a post about ting putting one weapon away and drawing a different one, suited for a different task, would be an easy colorful post. I certainly didn't mean to 'do evil' nor to pick a fight. I just wanted to make sure I post, because, in my opinion, the death knell of games is slow posting.

Honestly, even the conversation here has been a nice change of focus from what's been going on. (Yeah, the two hours I was a way from the computer I was at the hospital checking how my mom's procedure went, and I will be headed back after I cook supper for my recovering wife and mother-in-law.) So I hope that no harm was done in the conversation here or in game.

Again, I'm ok with the ruling and will follow it, but I'll confess even the conversation here was fun and a nice change of pace in comparison to the rest of the past two weeks.

One more of those will win this battle!

Given how much more powerful Rogarch's wand is than mine, and literally nothing else happened in the interim, I don't suppose we could at least say I kept my wand-charge?

I mean, if I were Rogarch I'd have tried a simple weapon-swing or something, knowing the above, but....

And Rogarch, how many charges does that thing have, and where did you get it??? A CL-5th magic missile wand with charges to spare is an awfully good treasure for mid-low-level Society play.

@Candledark: Sorry, no ret-cons. A charge is a charge. But the good news is you'll all be earning plenty enough gold to buy new wands after this module is over!

We're going to stay on Initiative for now because of the ongoing environmental risk from the heat.

@Ting: Yep, within 50' of the canal you take some heat damage. It's good you didn't get knocked in! :)

Before we head in, ting needs to heal up. Normally he'd 'hand his wand to Goran' and I'd roll the dice. But standing here everyone else would take a half dozen or so nonlethal points. Does anyone mind if we back up and then heal?

Um, I just read the GM's post, with the heat, if ting's coming back instead of going further in, he won't stop to pick up the stuff but he will inform the party of its existence.

Let's see what the GM answers about inspecting the door before we start analyzing the potential treasure.

We can always have Goran collect the loot and bring it to us. He does not have to worry about the fire damage. However Ting is the only one in the party (I think) that can open locked doors. I am assuming that the door to the inner building is locked.

In a lot of games that I have played in the GM has lent his folio/shirt for the re-roll although I do not think that this is strictly legal. I am going to have a closer look at the 10th season guide to see if this is even really a valid option. In this case it is not really needed anyways (the sleep condition is easy to break).

I would say that my shirt purchase was probably the best money spent in the game to date. Even when the re-rolls fails I still have a shirt to wear. :)

If we are counting rounds maybe it would be better for Goran to take a swan dive off the platform. He has an amulet that would protect him from the fall. Spruced up the web; I hope I have the positioning and dimensions right, I think I do.

Also, let's keep mechanical commentary and kibitzing on this page where it belongs.

Speaking of which: I think I should be able to do what I am presently doing from where I presently am; I am not an expert on the cover rules, but I count only 15 feet of webbing between the "priestess" and I (I don't think diagonals count for more except for movement), and since it's not a 'projectile' ability, being able to see her at all should be enough to do this.

If I am wrong about diagonals, consider me to have moved up adjacent to Goran to do this.
