Dennis excitedly says, "Alyreha's house is fun! Let's stay and look at more stuff!" Kidron would be proud that he doesn't run off immediately. But that's largely because he doesn't remember all the rooms we've been to, so he waits to follow someone, like Mimi, who was paying better attention.

![]() |

Upon hearing that finding more fragments would help Alyreha conserve her power, Mimi shrugs. "Ve are 'ere now and eet ees not like ve 'ave anytheeng better to do. Ve might as vell fineesh cleareeng out de second floor of squatters and search for more fragments vhile ve are at eet. Dat ees vhy de Société sent us 'ere after all."
She starts heading for the stairs to the second floor. "I beleeve ve vere goeeng to examine de auditorium next before Neibiat sent us up de tower after de intruders."

Zhamie reloads and has her jezail out and ready in case more nasties come their way.

GM Frost |

To the auditorium then...
The semitransparent image of a small, elderly Garundi woman dressed in typical Nexian garb stands at a podium on the eastern side of this room before an empty lecture hall. Her form doesn’t move, but three obvious runes on the podium glow with a pulsating light, alternating between pale blue and rose. Before the figure, magic shimmers over a sheaf of papers (boxed in Red on the Map), as if the figure were waiting to speak from prepared notes.
Zhamie Zhapp's Arcana (T): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
Zaza's Arcana (T): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12

Mimi Looks at the Garundi woman and then at the sheaf of papers. "If I am not meestaken, dat looks like more of Alyreha's notes. I suspect stronglee dat ve vill 'ave to get past de magical barrier to extract dem." She looks over at the three Zs (Zyek, Zhamie and Zaza). "Do any of you 'ave any idée 'ow ve can do dat?" Remembering the earlier cabinets, Mimi start reaching for her Thieves' Tools.

![]() |

"Ze runes are of enchantmente magique. Vait a moment as vous might zink vous are somevone else, Mimi!"
Any way to disable them at our level or are those cast at archmage level?

GM Frost |

Dennis the Menace's Perception (E): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
Zaza's Perception (T): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 Darkvision
Aside from the runes, Zaza and Zyek also find a trap below. DC 23 Thievery (trained) to scratch out of one of the glyphs on the podium, or dispel magic (3rd level; counteract DC 20) to counteract one of the runes; three total successes are required to disable the trap.

![]() |

Hold up Zyek warns the others before they enter the room or approach the desk. Enchantment magic's no joke and I'm not sure if we can get close enough to strike out those runes without triggering it. That magic looks Complex too, not just a one-and-done.
The ysoki looks at her companion and sighs. really starting to wish I gave you actual hands LB. Maybe'll need to tinker with you when we get back.
GM: The runes are at the podium, yes? Or are they in the doorway? (essentially do we think we can try disabling from outside the room, or not?)
Shaking her head, she points to the door at the far end of the auditorium. If we're gonna try to move in and take the ward down before it does...whatever its gonna do, might as well get closer to it to be started. Mimi: you, me, and anyone else good at rune-scratching should come in through that side door. Looks like its by the ghosts' room.
Unless someone has a Dispel, Zyek's proposing all of the Theivery-ers head in from the door across from the Teaching Hall - less room to need to Stride through to reach the podium

GM Frost |

The runes are on the podium. Think of it like the runes are on the top while the trap is below it. You need to disable the runes so the trap won't activate, and anyone trying to disable it by Thievery needs to be adjacent to it.

![]() |

Dennis sees Mimi getting out her thieves tools, so he copycats her. "Is someone magick'y gonna try to do this? Or do me and Mimi get to try?" The youngster looks to Kidron to see if the paladin is proud of Dennis showing some rare restraint.

![]() |

Mimi: go in together on three? Zyek says to the Galtan as she takes out her out tools.
Zyek can also try to disable the trap with Mimi (since it looks like there are multiple runes/multiple successes needed).
Anyone else also good at Theiving?

While Zaza tries to disable the trap magically, Mimi tries a more hands-on approach. "Tree!". She quickly advances to the podium (which given the GM's comment, I suspect will trigger the hazard :) and gets to work on the runes.

Zhamie will cheer her companions on (none of the above skills)

The shimmering magic dissipates, thanks to the old-school way of disabling the runes. Another fragment of the arclord's research is revealed in front of them on top of the podium.
I assume you will move to the next room so I will post about it as well.
----------
The group then goes to the Evocation Atrium. The central area of this room has pedestals with runes corresponding to acid, cold, fire, and electricity, with central runes placed for sonic and force. The walls of the larger portion of the room each have their own extravagant mural representing one of the four elements.
The northern wall is covered by the image of an enormous caldera of an unknown volcano, a vast lake of lava that almost seems to glow intensely. The southern wall displays a vast coral reef, and the light from the ocean’s surface almost seems to dance. The eastern wall displays a yawning cave, and the depths seem almost real. The western wall displays a fierce tornado tearing through an open field. The image somehow perfectly captures the fury of the intense winds. The western section of the floor portrays beams and circles along with complex equations, while the eastern section of the floor is covered in sine waves and elaborate musical notation. The ceiling above is painted with the four elements all blending, and the centerpiece is a brightly glowing evocation rune, crackling with energy.
What will you do?

![]() |

Great job Zaza! Zyek squeaks.
As the party then glances into the next atrium, the ysoki takes in the pictures on the walls. Hmmm. Alyreha's style's a bit outdated isn't it? Where's the forests or iron for Wood and Metal?
She turns to her colleagues. My hunch is we're gonna get blasted, but is anyone an art critic? Maybe something about the paintings is a clue in how to slip in nice and careful.

Dennis looks at the murals. "Wow! These pictures on the walls look lifelike." Before charging in, he spends a rare minute in thoughtful reflection, to see if the art means anything.

Since the Solidify Mist action Reflex save only applies to a single creature in the mist, and since Lil' Brute already rolled his Reflex, I'll assume that he was the one targeted and that Mimi can forego the roll.
Mimi feels the misty air around her start to harden but she forces her body to move through it towards the dim creatures ahead. Concealed Flat Check vs DC 5: 1d20 ⇒ 20
Rapier Attack: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 10 + 1 = 20 vs Flat-Footed
Rapier Damage: 1d6 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 1 + (6) = 12 piercing damage
Rapier Precise Strike Damage: 2 = 2 precision piercing damage
Crit? If so, then double the damage and add the following Deadly d8.
Rapier Deadly D8: 1d8 ⇒ 4 piercing damage
Action 3 (◆): Confident Finisher (+1 Striking Rapier) with Panache & Precise Strike and MAP1 vs Wispy (White) or Cloudy (Blue)
Concealed Flat Check vs DC 5: 1d20 ⇒ 14

Rapier Damage: 1d6 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 1 + (5) = 8 piercing damage
Rapier Precise Strike Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 2) = 8 precision piercing damage
Failure? If so, you deal half your precise strike damage to the target.

When Misty grabs him, Dennis cries out, "Gross!!! Get your grubby tentacles off me! And Lil Brute too!" Dennis uses his own brute strength to wriggle free.
Athletics to Escape: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
Hopefully a success...
Angry with Misty for being so grabby, a determined Dennis shouts, "Hang in there, Lil Brute. I'm gonna take care of him ... with Sir Kidron's help." Dennis moves into a flanking position with the paladin. Then, teaming up with Kidron, the youngster stabs his former captor (Misty) with his halberd.
