EltonJ Presents "Mwangi Expanse" (Inactive)

Game Master EltonJ

Adventures in the Mwangi Expanse, based off the cultures of medieval Western Africa.

1 to 50 of 53 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

Hello, my name is Elton Robb and I'll be your storyteller this evening. I am not able to bump my last recruitment in this area, so if you posted your interest in this campaign, post again.

I almost picked up Mwangi Expanse for Lost Omens today, but decided to wait on that. So this is what I propose:

* A hypothetical T.V. Show type campaign based on Sub-Saharan Africa.

* Jungle elves, jungle orcs, jungle dwarves, jungle trolls (from WoW RPG), it's limitless.

* Serpent folk would figure in the campaign.

* Places to come from: a city based on Timbuktu, Gao (of the Songhai Empire), etc.

* Have your characters wear colorful clothes based on the cultures of Western Africa (Niger, Gana, etc.)

PRODUCTION DESIGN
I hate to say this, but get a copy of the Mwangi Expanse or Heart of the Jungle. Look through them, feel inspired. Look at National Geographic shows on Africa (although that would mean getting on Disney Plus). Take a look at this Fall of Civilizations podcast for ideas.

Character Creation
25 points, 2 traits, average starting gold; 1st level. Any class allowed, except Samurai and Ninja. Unchained Summoner, Monk, Rogue, and Barbarian allowed.

Recruitment to end on March 31st.

Liberty's Edge

Interested. Would you allow Undine as a race? Hunter as a class?

Laqua wrote:

I want you to play the character you want to play. So a undine hunter is cool.

Grand Lodge

Looking at a spiritualist albino

I'll dot for interest and get to looking for inspiration. Though a question. Is this actually on Golarion, or is it a homebrew world?

It's actually on Golarion. It's not homebrew. I don't know enough of the legends of Africa to homebrew my own African-based world.

Okay, just wanted to make sure! I kind of figured since you mentioned the Golarion Books on the subject, but couldn't be 100% sure.

Any specifics on race or class adjustments for this game? ie jungle elves? jungle dwarves?

Silver Crusade RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16

Belay my last, I see that such a thing exists in PF1 canon, Ekujae Elves, and Mwangi Dwarves.

Liberty's Edge

Character made, Mongo the Human Elemental Kin (unchained) Barbarian. Former slave. Can get very angry. Really, really dumb.

What else should I provide?

GM: I'm inclined to make an Archer-Oradin using the Divine Hunter and Hospitaler Archetypes. This combo, however conflicts at 11th level, due to the Aura of Justice being modified by both. As an Oradin, and of course because this is PBP, the likelihood of ever reaching 11th level Paladin is decidedly low.

Will you let me use this combination?

Hmmm, maybe I'd just do Hospitaler, and be a melee Oradin. So many character concepts, so little time.

Grand Lodge

I'm retooling to do a Druid or Witch or a shaman

I think you should either stick to the paladin, or just take the hunter.

Good for you.

I see you have allowed the unchained versions of the classes that have the option, are you also allowing Chained versions of them? I'm looking at making a merchant who's Eidolon is his bodyguard.

That sounds like an interesting concept!

I don't see anything wrong with Chained Summoner, and you can use background skills.

I'm very tempted to submit a boisterous brawler, a wrestler thick-headed and obnoxious in his bravado, but strong enough to tackle a gorilla to the ground.

Let me see his/her background.

I have an idea for a sorcerer (serpentine bloodline). Is there anything in particular you want to see for the character submission?

Background would be good. Also, her/his skills and feats. :D I want to make sure that she's balanced. I might work with you on the background.

Critzible wrote:

Good idea. Lots of roleplaying opportunities with that one. He's apprenticed to a older shaman, right?

I offer Zinnath the Scary!

A faerie dragon, who thinks/wishes he was something more.

He'll take Sorcerer and Rogue levels and be an Arcane Trickster, filling the rogue billet. Conceivably, he could take some blasting spells too at higher levels, but that's many adventures away.

As is, he is simply a faerie dragon right out of the MM, but with slightly different spells. He has exactly the same stats, skills, etc. as every other faerie dragon, but he DID take 2 traits! As a CR 2 critter, he shouldn't gain a level until the party makes level 3!!!

Submitting Nbazi Samba, A Halfling native to Nantambu.

Background:
Nbazi is the younger son of a modest halfling trading family in Nantambu, with a penchant for interacting with the black market and its denizens. So much so is this reputation that he has become somewhat of an investigator into matters involving the Nantambu black market, mostly from fellow Halflings, but he will accept work from just about anyone in need.

for protection he has his trusty Eidalon, Rafiki, who appears as a magnificent and colorful Mandrill. Nbazi is always looking for adventure, and the next bit of trouble to get himself into, and Rafiki is always getting him out of it. Both his elder brother and Father do not approve of his black market associations and would prefer he try to apply his talents at Maggaambya bbut are too busy with the family business to press the matter any further.

He is unsure why Rafiki appeared to him as a child, but ever since he has felt no fear, and been able to channel to heal those he cares about in the way only the most devout temple priests usually can so for the most part his life is carefree and his family sees his abilities as a blessing and boon.

Scarab Sages

Heya Eltonj, I back in the old recruitment I'd said I was making an Arcanist. I've since changed my mind and I'm putting together an Ekujae Half-Elf Sanctified Slayer / Ravener Hunter Inquisitor.

He does, I imagine a mother as well; I can flesh them out with names and basic character traits if you'd like.

Submitting Yumbulika Kujitosa. She's a halfling sorceress (serpentine bloodline) who can't stand snakes. Details (traits, feats, description, background, etc) are in her profile.

She looks good (like the Avatar). Hmm, so serpentine bloodline. And you can't stand snakes. Like Indiana Jones I reckon. Would you like me to help you with your background a bit?

Yes please. I just sketched some basic info because I wasn't sure of the setting details, so I'd appreciate any help you could offer.

How is she with dragons?

Seems more like a Sanctified Slayer Inquisitor fits your concept better.

Follow-up question. Where in the timeline is this? Like is Sargava still Sargava or is it Vidrian?

Here's the crunch for my Half-Elf Sanctified Slayer/Ravener Hunter Inquisitor.

I'm still working on the background and need to finalize gear purchases.

Scarab Sages

Mongo's story

Born into poverty, on a struggling farm in remote Cheliax, it became clear early in Montelios's life that he would be exceptionally strong, and far from bright. Other children soon took to calling him "Mongo," and the name stuck. Still, his childhood was happy...

Until his parent's died in a plague. Orphaned at age 9, Mongo was captured on the streets, and sold into slavery. He found himself on an ocean liner, a laborer on a Chelaxian privateer. Resigned to his fate, Mongo labored away, never expecting anything better. Even as he grew to 14, he remained the lowest on the totem pole.

Then something amazing happened. Mongo's ship full of privateers was beset by a gang of pirates. The pirates won the day, and seeing him as a captive of sorts, chose to rescue him and bring him aboard their ship. It was then, that Mongo claimed and new life, and reclaimed himself. Mongo spent years learning to fight, and learning to channel the burning rage that now festered inside him into a weapon he could wield against oppression.

Just recently, Mongo's captain ran into a spot of trouble in town, and never returned. In-fighting split the crew and the ship was eventually impounded. Mongo found himself on his own again, tossed on the winds of fate, like every event he's lived through. Now, he aimlessly searches for something new. Perhaps even a chance to make his own choice, for the first time. For now though:

"Mongo is only pawn in game of life."

Mongo, human male
CG
Deity: Besmara

Mongo vehemently hates the church of Urgathoa, blaming her for his parents' deaths.

I don't know, I tried to download a timeline, but that was a no go. I'd say Sargava is still Sargava.

I'll take a good look at the crunch later. :)

And just in time for the deadline, I finish my sheet. Kikina Ilaki is a Sargavan Native (as in not a Colonial), with a past she's not proud of and a rebellious spirit. Unchained Rogue with no Archetype, just a lot of daggers and gumption. Also, this is Berrybunch.

I had considered a Wayang myself. Dual wielding U-Rogue, U-Barbarian even!

Jacob Trier's submission: Ukebe the Wrestler, another native of Nantambu. Bit of a brute with a chip on his shoulder towards magic and spellcasters, but a good man to have on your side in a scuffle.

Crunch in the character bio.

Physical description:
Tall, brawny and muscular, Ukube makes an imposing figure. He moves with more grace than you would expect from a man of his size. There is little graceful about his general appearance, though. His eyes a too close together, his broad nose has been broken several times and he is missing several teeth. To hide the onset of early balding, he usually keeps his scalp clean shaven. Often, he reeks of old sweat and cheap palm wine.

While exploring, he wears a chain shirt under his loose shirt and a cestus on his left hand.

Backstory:

Born to honest and hardworking farmers in Nantambu, Ukube was raised on stories of Old-Mage Jatembe and his Ten Magic Warriors. Enraptured by the stories, he grew up with a burning desire to one day become a great magic warrior himself. The only problem was that it was soon abundantly clear to anyone that he had neither the intelligence or strength of personality to wield any kind of magic. Local students at the Magaambya arcane academy would mock him openly and use cantrips to heckle him as he spent his adolescence pretending to slay imaginary monsters with nonsens spells. What he lacked in magic potential, he made up in physical prowess, though, and hard field work helped him develop a formidable physical form. He began practicing wrestling and soon discovered that spellcasters had trouble using their magic to tease him when they had their face stuffed in the mud with both arms pinned behind their back.

As he grew into manhood, he loved frequenting markets and festivals, often winning wrestling contests. He basked in the admiration of fans, carroused and pursued romantic conquests (usually without much success). He often bragged of his physical might and mocked the spellcasters he had once wished to emulate. After a series of drunken brawls and unfortunate incidents, his family encouraged him to seek his fortune as an adventurer, before he destroyed the last tatters of the family reputation.

In the past couple of years, Ukebe has managed to make a decent living as a jungle guide and hired muscle. He still lives a carefree life, often squandering his money on drink and other pleasures. He never misses an opportunity to get into trouble.

Goals and potential plot hooks:

Ukebe still dreams of becoming a great warrior, but now he prefers to rely on his physical might. He suffers from a bit of an inferiority complex towards magic and spellcasters, jaded by his childhood bullying, but secretly has a fantasy of being a true magic warrior. He would never admit this, however, and instead projects his insecurities as open disdain for magic.

He still loves stories with an almost childlike passion, and frequently draws inspiration from the deeds of mythical heroes when adapting his martial style.

He is brave and loyal, but his lack of intelligence and boisterous behavior often gets him into trouble.
