"Tyranny and anarchy are never far apart." - Jeremy Bentham

Welcome to the recruitment thread for the undeniably amazing Curse of the Crimson Throne AP.

CHARACTER SUBMISSION
I've been stalking the boards for a bit and I've seen both extensive and barebones submission requirements; I hope my submission standards are agreeable. My goal is to have folks provide enough information for me to make an informed choice for the party's makeup without burdening applicants too much.

  • Come up with a character concept (obviously). This includes your background (this can be basic - I don't need a novel if you don't already have one), race, class, appearance and reason for being in Korvosa. You don't need to have a completed stat block to apply.
  • Share how often you can post. As I've seen on RPOL, slow-posting games die quick deaths. I'm asking for a minimum of one-post per 24 hours.
  • Share how familiar you are with the AP - and be honest. Having prior knowledge of the plot isn't going to keep you from getting in, but it does help me get a sense of what my players know going into the game.
  • Share what you hope to contribute to the game mechanically - both in battles and out of them.
  • Provide an in-character response to the following "scenario." This is designed to give me a sense of your voice as a player and your personality as a character. Your response will have no bearing on the story or future implications for your character.

The Scenario:

The Shoreline Drinkhall is filled with patrons quietly drinking and eating. The mood in the room is heavy - there is no music, no laughing and the conversations, what few there are, are conducted in whispers.

The quiet scene is abruptly interrupted by the door bursting open by a bruised, bloodied halfling. "Help...please...help..." he wheezes before collapsing on the threshold. A moment later, a woman wearing dark leather armor and carrying an exotic-looking hooked club comes into view through the still-open door. She looks down at the halfling with a satisfied smile.

CHARACTER CREATION
The following is posted for information only - you don't need to have a completed stat block to apply. In the interest of expediency (and my sanity) no exceptions will be made to the rules posted. Sorry.

  • Players will start at 1st level.
  • Any non-evil alignment is allowed, but if you choose Chaotic Neutral, please provide a little note about what that alignment means to you in your application. Also, if you play as LG, please don't be TOO obnoxious. :)
  • 20-point ability buy. No score may be lower than 8 after racial adjustments.
  • Max HP for your class
  • 2 traits - one MUST be a campaign trait
  • Max starting gold for your class
  • Core races only, please (sorry)
  • Paizo-created classes only. No samurai, cavaliers or summoners. Gunslingers are allowed (and encouraged), but we will be playing in an emerging firearms setting. Your gun will be a coveted prize by your foes (and potentially your allies), and when fired will likely make you a primary target during combat.

Some Things You Should Know:

  • I like interesting characters more than highly optimized ones.
  • A balanced party is important to me.
  • I err on the sides of fun, creativity and narrative.
  • I am the GM. You are the players. We exist in harmony. I am going to try to kill you, yes, but only for the good of the story. I ask for your respect and promise to give you mine.
  • I don't mind low stats, but there will be penalties for having an ability score lower than 10 - don't let that dissuade you from having an 8, just be prepared.
  • LET THE APPLICATIONS COMMENCE!
I look forward to seeing what this community comes up with - I expected big things, Paizo.com! Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Cheers,
    GM Cello

    Grand Lodge

    Death to Lamm !

good luck to all of you

I have stalked these boards for awhile, and have been looking for a game to get into. So I will try and post a character idea a bit later if that is okay. Any idea when you are looking to get started?

Has anyone converted the campaign traits to PF from 3.5?

Ah, I forgot about that. Most are ok, but here are the updates:

Missing Sibling: "Gather Information" and "Sense Motive" are replaced by Diplomacy and Knowledge:Local.

Addicted Friend: Replace "Gather Information" with "Diplomacy."

Thinking maybe a cleric of Abadar that started out in the guard, kind of a hero cop concept.

    Dark Archive

I would love to join the Game. I will create a Noble Cavilier from Korvosa. Probably from the Jeggare family. I will provide you full character sheet background and goals by the end of the work day.

I would be interested in trying out CotCT (yet again...) using Arianna as my submission. Obviously a few changes will have to be made to her for a final submission, but the background information is complete.

Share how often you can post: Once or more per weekday is not a problem, provided the game is moving along. The weekends might be a bit more spotty.

Share how familiar you are with the AP: I've tried playing this AP via PbP on two or three other occasions, each time the campaign has died roughly the same time as Lamm.

Share what you hope to contribute to the game mechanically: In combat, Arianna is more of a buffer/de-buffer type and is not likely to do much in terms of physical damage. Outside of combat, she provides a number of knowledge skills and could be valuable as a social character in a pinch.

The Scenario: I will have to post a response to that later today.[/b]

I would definitely be interested in playing CotCT! This is a character I made for a game set in Varisia, so I'll just have to modify her background to take Korvosa into account as her starting location. Stats and background are in the alias.

Share how often you can post: I generally post at least once every day including weekends, but this Summer I will be unable to post for about a week near the end of July.

Share how familiar are you with the AP: I've never played it before, but I just started running it for some friends of mine in real life. They just kicked in the door to Gaedron's warehouse. I thought if I experienced the AP as a player, I would be able to do a better job as a GM.

Share what you can contribute to the game mechanically: Adara is a swashbuckler type, a good frontline combatant, but has an arsenal of bard buffs and control spells up her sleeve. Outside of combat, she's very versatile and is especially good with social interactions.

The Scenario: I'll have to think about it a little bit. I'll post it within the day.

This alias is from a now defunct CotCT game I played in on this site. We just hit level two before the game ended. You can see I am a regular poster by looking at his history.

You can check the posting history to see how the character would respond to most situations. He is a bit of a drunken boorish lout, but after being together with the group and they earned his respect, the boorishness was in the process of being dialed back in his character growth.

I'd be happy to being him back down to first level, if selected. He's a front line fighter, better at hitting things than avoiding being hit.

I picture the scenario going something like:

    Spoiler:
The half elf puts down his mug of grog at the commotion in the bar. As the exotic looking woman wanders in, he looks at her closely. "Now, sweetheart, I'd advise you to back off that little fella there before you get in trouble with the authorities around these parts." He turns to a server, "Wench, get that little'un looked to immediately. Last thing we need is the guard bustin' up our fun." He turns back to the new lady in the room. "Speakin' of fun, wanna have a drink with this fine specimen of man here?"

I'd be happy to make any changes you deemed necessary, as well. Thanks for your consideration, DM.

    The Exchange

Watching this and the Jade Regent. Interested in one of the two, but I know nothing of either (except they seem popular so they must be good). Sadly I was hoping to find one higher than first level. I've been playing a lot of PFS PbP, but that takes a long time, so I've been playing only ever first level forever. Literally like 2 years. :(

I'm definitely interested in this game as well.

    1. My character will likely be Varrien Tobinus, a half-orc alchemist. A student at the Acadamae in search of unlocking and harnessing the rage of his more barbaric parentage, Varrien was framed for murder that he didn't commit. Forced to leave the prestigious school, Varrien continues his studies in secret and hopes to one day to clear his name.

    2. As I explained in the Jade Regent recruitment forums, I can certainly post at least once a day, if not more.

    3. I am not familiar with this AP at all.

    4. I'm planning on building this alchemist as more of a secondary-melee character. Obviously, alchemists aren't optimized for that sort of role, but my intention is to eventually go Master Chymist and become more a bruiser in combat. My various bombs will also provide some utility in combat as well.

Outside of combat, I will have a number of Intelligence-based skills that should be of use. Think Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. :)

    5. The Shoreline Drinkhall suited Varrien's needs well enough. It was quiet enough here to study and everybody tended to keep to themselves. Plus, you could even buy a couple of drinks. The ale was decent, just as long as you didn't look into the glass too hard. Sometimes though, a rougher element would show up and disturb what would have otherwise been a perfect place for a bookish half-orc to lay low. Like right now.

Varrien glanced up from the book he was pouring over with a grimace. He knew he shouldn't care; this was Old Korvosa after all. Things like this happened every day here. Besides, he didn't need any more attention drawn to himself, especially after his recent legal trouble. He tried to look down and refocus on his book, a treatise on the anatomy of monstrous races by some ancient Taldan scholar, and let it play out, but another screech from the wounded halfling made him flinch.

The leather-clad woman was beginning to drag him from the hall by the foot, the same murderous grin on her face. Damn it, thought Varrien, I can't just let him die.

"Stop!" he shouted, drawing a few curious glances from the other patrons as well as a look of confusion from the club-wielding thug. Well, Varrien, now you've done it. His mind raced at his options. He was bigger than her, there was no denying that, and he was likely stronger. But the woman was armed with that odd club and also wore armor. All Varrien had was a dagger tucked into his belt. There was also his rage mutagen, an elixir he was currently experimenting on. With that, he should be able to take her. But after that, could he stop with just her? Best save that for emergencies, he thought as the woman approached him menacingly.

    Thanks for your consideration. :)

    Here is my application:

    First about myself:
I'm an 33 years old commissioning technician from germany.
I'm playing pen&paper since the age of 13.
Since I need to have internet access at work, I'm able to post several times per day if needed.
I've never played the adventure path and I'm not familiar with the books.

    To the character:
I'm planning to play an frontline fighter with some defensive capabilites specialized in the aldori dueling sword.
He'll be of Lawful Neutral alignment. This means, that he likes a live with well defined laws, where he knows what will happen next, like the predefined rules in an duel.

    Basic Character Background:
Andrej Petrow was born as the youngest son of an impoverished noble house of brevoy. Since childhood, he knew, that he shouldn't expect much from his parents. The few land property they had would pass on to his older brother Michail.
He knew, that his only chance to earn himself a name was to become one of the famous swordlords of Brevoy.
Since his early tens, he fought to get an apprenticeship under an sword master. At his 14th year he signed up in the swordschool of master Alexandrej Kisseljow.
Since he finished his studies at master Kisseljows school, Andrej travels around, searching for exotic sword techniques.

    Scenario:
Andrej sits at his table after an long marching day, his beer in front of him, as the door opens and an halfling, obviously being in need for help, falls through the door, followed by a dark looking women with some kind of exotic club.
Andrej stands up and walks towards the door, his hand at the hilt of his sword. Speaking to
I'm Andrej Petrow, Swordlord from Brevoy. May I ask you what you what made you disturb our well-deserved calmness? I give you two options. Either you leave this drinkhall immediately, or you will have to beat me in duel, since I will not permit that you kill or rob an helpess one!

    Character Concept:

    Corso Gaczi
    Male Human Bard (Arcane Duelist)
(or a similiar class that fits the concept, like inquisitor of Cayden, magus or ranger even)

    Description
Corso is a tall man in his early twenties. Lean, muscular and fair, he carries himself in a proud way, a flash of defiance in his grey-black eyes. His skin is tan and shows the subtle signs of numerous fights. He keeps his skull free of hair, yet wears a black beard in the style of the Chelaxian young nobles.

He favors dark brown tunics of leather or thick wool, cut at the shoulder to allow fluid movements, under which he wears ample white shirts, worn to the neck, with a "cravate" of white silk. Over these, a fine dark cape sporting sinuous strands of silver-green, a treasured gift of his elven master, protects him from the weather and hides his dueling sword. He favors strong coffee and smooth leathery tobacco, but shuns alcohol.

    Background
Born of a minor noble house, Corso lived an easy and careless youth, in the East Shore district of Korvosa, until he accidentally injured severely his friend Kevan Bromathan during a drunken duel, taking the lad’s ear off. His father tried as best he could to manage the relationship with the powerful Bromathan family, but eventually decided it would be best to send his son on a long trip, far away from Korvosa.

For many years, Corso traveled Avistan, discovering the world, its wonders and perils. In Razmiran, under the tutelage of the high priest Karzham, he studied the arts of oratory and logic, spending hours shouting in front of the crashing waves on the shores of the formidable Lake Encarthan. In Kyonin, the elven master Daolia taught him the arts of remaining unseen and of the silent and swift kill. There he also witnessed the power of the ideal, the rebirth of a once proud nation. In Taldor, at the foot of the Fog Peaks, he studied under Del Federico the subtleties of royal politics and court intrigues, and how nations grow and break. He even spent some time in Isam, capital of Galt, where Flana Fondel took him as her lover, showing him, the ways of manipulating the heart, the basis of overthrowing a government and how to harness the power of the mob. Finally, he studied in Almas, the Aldoran capital, where his world was shattered by the liberal teachings of the gnomish philosopher Codoroso.

It was his failing relationship with an Aldoran priestess of Desna that led to his realization that it was time to come back. His heart longed for his beloved family, for his beloved city.

Upon his arrival, his father made it clear he did not approve of his son’s return. It was still too early, he said. Corso’s youngest sister Djana was promised to Federos Bormathan and the wedding was but months away. Corso’s return would endanger the fragile peace between the families. Meanwhile, Corso had fallen for Losinja Andeis, a pharasmin novice and friend of his sister. He now had no intention to leave. He promised he would seek Kevan and make peace with him.

    Posting
I can post once a day during weekdays, often more. I always warn the group when I can't.

    Familiarity with AP
I am very familiar with the intro, having been in a few games that dwindled very fast, and a bit of the beginning of the second chapter, as I joined a game that was already started.

    Role
I am looking to play a hot-tempered dashing young beau who enjoys city life and glorious endeavours. I'd like to bring more flavour to the game through his knowledge of who's who in Korvosa. During clashes with scoundrels and blackguards, Corso can hold his own with a blade, standing on the frontline.

    Scenario:

Corso lets his gaze wander across the room to the newly entered woman, a hand leaving the mug of bitter ale to reach under the table to make a gesture of arcane power, he flashes a smile at her: "Looks like you found what you were looking for... But you see, the sprawled creature asked for help, which puts me in a dilemma..."

"Now, that being said, I wouldn't want to fluster those blue eyes of yours and make them frown needlessly, meaning my hopes of ever getting to know you better would soon."
"Look! As the poor creature is not going anywhere, perhaps we could start by getting better acquainted? I am know as Corso. Perhaps you've heard of me?"

    Casting Charm Person.

    Sczarni

Sounds fun, I'll be playing my alias' namesake.

How often I can post: Since I'm a college student off for the summer, I have little to do throughout the week other than work most of the time. A time or two a day shouldn't be an issue.

About the AP: Despite my 11 years of experience with table top RPGs, I have never once been a part of an AP. Needless to say, I have never even heard of it until this point.

What I hope to bring to the table mechanically: Out of combat interaction with the environment, mostly. Jack "of all trades" McAllaster is built for skills, built for knowledge, and built to never be fooled. In combat, he is little more than a standard rogue aiming for sneak attacks, though his preferred method is unarmed.

Little bit of character: [Note: This is a very condensed version] Jack was born a quarter elf (his dad a half-elf and his mother a human), but he might as well be full human. His family was poor, had to give up their home due to owed taxes and join a caravan of elves. Jack learned much from them and enjoyed puzzles to such an extent that he eventually left the caravan in search of puzzles to solve. He became an investigator only to get fired for ignoring the law to do what he thought would solve cases. Jack is Chaotic Neutral, which means that he will not kill out of cold blood, but he is also not looking out for the best of mankind so much as himself. He embodies the term "free-spirit", though he'd have you believe there is no such nonsense as spirituality.

    Scenario:
Jack approached the most recent house that had been burglarized. The local guard didn't know what to make of it and if there was anything that Jack enjoyed, it was a good puzzle.

"Here's a list of everything that was stolen from the house." the guard spoke in an almost mocking tone, as if there was no chance that Jack could figure out something the local guard couldn't. It was a challenge.

Jack read the list; candle sticks, a few coins, silverware, and a few others. He glanced at the hole in the house where the intruder had broken in, no more than a foot and a half in diameter. Not far from them, he spotted some small three pronged footprints that had been hastily covered up with the nearby snow.

"Kobolds." Jack spoke, trying to cover up his arrogance. Though, admittedly, he wasn't doing a very good job.

Nicolai was originally created for a Shattered Star campaign that died before it could even begin. With a little tweaking of his background he can fit into the CotCT AP quite easily.

Share how often you can post: I do most of my posting from work, where I have a lot of downtime to post. I can easily post once a day, or more if the action heats up.

Share how familiar are you with the AP: I've played the first two books of the AP with another character (I actually started midway through the first book and finished up the with the second before the game collapsed) but that was three years ago and I'm quite sure I can separate Player knowledge from Character knowledge.

What I hope to bring to the table mechanically: I plan on taking Nicolai into the Harrower Prestige class eventually. But before that he will be a Diviner with the Foresight sub-school. I see Nicolai as somewhat of a con man/charlatan. Although his power is real why should he display it when it is much easier to fleece a few locals for some copper coins without going through all the trouble.

The scenario: As everyone stands stunned at the sudden altercation Nicolai glances at the wounded halfling and the leather clad woman before rising from his table and going over to the man. "Ahh, good. You must be my three o'clock reading. I've been expecting you." Nicolai helps the halfling to his feet and guides him to a chair opposite him at his table before pulling a well-worn Harrow deck from a satchel on the floor next to his chair. "Although the spirits hate to wait there was no need to make such an, unseemly, entrance." Nicolai stares at the woman standing in the doorway before saying " I'm sorry, Miss but this gentleman was here before you and he does have an appointment. If you wish for a reading today you will have to wait until I'm finished with him. If you would like you may have a seat at the bar and wait or perhaps we can schedule an appointment for you for some other time. My hours are quite flexible." Nicolai, the words of a spell rolling around his brain, waits for the women's response, one way or another.

Wow - some great applicants already. Seems like CotCT games die quick deaths here on the Paizo boards. Is the game cursed? I'll work hard at not meeting a similar fate.

Here's a list of current applicants:

    Martial
    Melee
Crain Tresselmore - Half Elf Barbarian (Drunken Brute)
Andrej Petrow - Human Fighter (Aldori Swordlord)

    Ranged

    Skilled
    Adara - Human Bard
Corso Gaczi - Human Bard (Arcane Duelist)
    Jack McAllaster - Rogue (?)

    Divine
Kenrick Geimfind - Dwarven Druid (Saurian Shaman)
    Leyli Wildspeaker - Human Druid
The Silver Prince - Human Oracle of Life

    Arcane
Arianna Elizabeta Sirmikova - Human Witch
    Varrien Tobinus - Half-Orc Alchemist (Melee-Focused)
Nicolai Fortescu - Human Wizard (Diviner)

Let me know if I missed you.

    Looking good, so far!

Talomyr checking back in with the scenario answer as promised.

    Scenario:
Arianna looks up from the spread out Harrow cards before her to see what the commotion is. Seeing the battered halfling, the young woman gets to her feet and begins moving toward him in order to treat his wounds and ask what had happened.

Before she able to aid the poor halfling, a woman wearing dark leather armor and carrying an exotic-looking hooked club comes into view through the still-open door. Looking up and seeing the smug smile on the woman's face Arianna looks up and simply asks, "Why?" while preparing to hex the dark clad woman should her response be aggressive.

Posting interest with this character from yet another defunct CotCT campaign. I will have to make some adjustments - LE was a big part of his planned development. We didn't get too far at all, Just getting into what I assume would be act 2.

Durriken, I would be ok with LE as you've described it.

    Sczarni

By the way, Jack would be a standard rogue. Traps and all that. I just finished adjusting him as per your specifications. Additionally, he'd be dipping into two levels of Alchemist for whatever it's worth.

    Scenario:
Adara, finishing her drink, looks up to see a wounded halfling enter the bar and collapse. She gropes for a healing potion and runs to him. The menacing woman enters. Adara stops in her tracks. "You're not finishing him!" She casts Hideous Laughter on the woman, waiting for her to break into uncontrollable cackles. "Someone call the guard!" She administers the potion to the halfling and waits for him to regain consciousness.

I'd like to point out because I didn't see it on the list that Adara has the Street Performer archetype. My background and stats are now updated and ready. Thank you for your consideration!

Share how often you can post: I can post once a day with little problem, and most of the time, I should be able to post more often if need be.

Share how familiar are you with the AP: I have read the player's guide, and thats about it.

My character concept: 20 year old human ranger named Kierkagaard Chaucer who is Neutral Good. He is the son of a Sable Company Marine, who was killed for murdering his wife, a crime he claimed to his death that he never committed.

What I hope to bring to the table mechanically: In combat, I hope to bring to the ranged element to the battlefield. Out of combat, he brings a lot of versatility and utility through skills. When he interacts with others, in general, he assumes the best in them, though life has taught him that there is evil in the world, and when he is faced with it, he is willing to deliver to them the justice that they are due.

The scenario: The Shoreline Drinkhall was quiet compared to the other inns and taverns that Old Korsova had to offer. But thats how Kierkagaard would prefer it. The crowds, the noise, all together made him feel so exposed and vulnerable. That is why Kierkagaard chose the Shoreline.

Kierkagaard found himself on his feet, having stood up to respond to the cries for help from the halfling. But as the women came in, he was unsure what to do. As she made a move toward the halfling, he knew he couldn't just stand by and do nothing. Quickly, he called out, "Where did you find this half-pint's hands? In your coin purse? What are you missing, lets see if we can find it in one of his pockets."

Kierkagaard pulled the halfling up and put him in the chair at his table and begin to half-heartedly go through his pouch. And he gently asked, "So what is your side of the story?"

    Sczarni

Oh my, have I embarrassed myself. I misread your instructions and you did not simply ask for a scenario, you asked for a response to a particular scenario that you gave. How unfortunate for me.

    REAL Scenario:
It was a long day of travel and Jack was ready to spend a moment in the quiet. He didn't much care for people and he was glad to find a spot to sit and eat without the noise of people being... Merry. There were many sounds from outside that he was enjoying when the halfling made its appearance.

Jack glanced over at the woman as she walked through the door, but returned his gaze to the food in front of him.

"My, miss. I couldn't help but notice your display of weakness. Judging from your weapon, you're either an outsider or trained by one, am I right? Of course I am. You just murdered a seemingly helpless halfling where people could clearly see. You have no tact, thus you cannot be an assassin. A score being settled? Also doubtful. A mercenary? Perhaps. I've also noticed that you are wearing leather armor, so you must either be light on your feet or poorly equipped, though you are using a brute's weapon. Either way, this points to one possibility."

Jack spins around in his chair and stands, now approaching the woman and drawing his crossbow and firing.

"You're just here to intimidate. You're a hastily trained pawn in someone's chess game and I'm the rook that's sacrificing you."

My apologies for that... Mix up. I can be absent minded on occasion.

I hope I'm not to late.

how often you can post?:I can easily post once per day usually more. I check the boards periodically throughout the day.

how familiar are you with the AP?:I have read the players guide, that's it.

My character concept: Nathaniel a lawful neutral human fighter in his mid twenties. He grew up as a ward in minor nobles house hold. There he trained to be a warrior and hoped to someday join the nobles house guard to repay all of their kindness. But he was thrown out after attacking a guard who was abusing one of the town girls.

What do you hoe to bring to the table mechanically?:In combat, I hope to play a fairly standard front-liner, focusing on two-handed DPR and preventing foes from getting to the squishier party members. When dealing with things out of combat his main focus is upholding the law. He isn't like a paladin in terms of seeking out evil but he will not tolerate thievery, abuse, murder, etc.

The scenario:The Shoreline Drinkhall is filled with patrons quietly drinking and eating.

Nate immediately got up and ran to the halfing picking him up and shoving him away from the door. He then turned to the woman "why are you attacking this man?" He drew his sword ready for a fight and glared at the woman until she responded.

guess I can throw a hat in the ring here.
I applied to your Jade Regent game as well. hopefully I could get picked for one of them.

    1. character is in the profile including back story

    2. I usually post once a day sometimes more if there is a good flow.

    3. familiar with the AP? I am currently in a Crimson throne game but joined at the end of book 1 having missed most of the beginning. started a Crimson throne game with this character but never made it past character intro's

    4. contribution: Tracking, survival, and archery.

    5. scenario:

The Shoreline Drinkhall is filled with patrons quietly drinking and eating. The mood in the room is heavy - there is no music, no laughing and the conversations, what few there are, are conducted in whispers.

The quiet scene is abruptly interrupted by the door bursting open by a bruised, bloodied halfling. "Help...please...help..." he wheezes before collapsing on the threshold. A moment later, a woman wearing dark leather armor and carrying an exotic-looking hooked club comes into view through the still-open door. She looks down at the halfling with a satisfied smile.

sitting alone across from the entrance a lone man sits drinking only water. he sits contemplating where he is to go next. every lead, every contact led him nowhere. his target is very elusive.

then the door bursts open the Halfling. then the woman. I've got no time for this

as she looks down on her fallen target smiling, that smile is suddenly broken as an arrow from across the tavern slams into the woman's shoulder. its barbed tip ripping through her armor into her flesh. soon the blood begins to seep through.

she knows that to pull it out would be dangerous this was a no simple hunters arrow, this was meant to kill.

she looks across toward the one who fired the shot and from the shadows a the thin lanky half-elf emerges from the shadows another arrow knocked and ready.

Run is all he says to her.

She looks at the half-elf. she knows that running would do no good. this man is a tracker; he has wounded his prey. but what choice does she have. The woman turns and runs.

The Half-Elf draws to fire once more but instead lowers his bow. not worth the effort, I can find her later

he then turns to the halfling to see if he is alive or dead.

    • Provide an in-character response to the following "scenario."

    Savinus

    • Background attached in spoiler below - human (chelaxin) Fighter (no archetype) [archer] - Appearance in spoiler below - Reason for being in Korvosa (both it is his home and he is looking for his younger sister)
    • Every weeknight, at least once based on timing and other player activity. More frequently on most weekends.
    • I know very little about this AP, not even having read the entire campaign guide, yet.
    • In combat, I hope to rain down death upon our foes. Or switch-hit to melee when required as only a core Fighter truly can. Outside of combat, I hope to be a beacon of common sense. Well, as much as my own failings in that regard allow. A core Fighter's skill set is pretty limited for me to expect more than that.
    • Scenario response is in a spoiler below.

    Background:
Growing up in the Shingles really isn't that hard. Lots of people do it. Escaping the Shingles, on the other hand . . .. As Savinus got older, and learned to understand more about power structures and relationships, he started trying to find the right relationships to get himself, his parents, and his younger sister (Aeliana) into a "real home". He started with some simple bodyguard jobs before working his way up into a caravan guard position, which is where he started getting most of his real training and equipment. A month ago, Savinus returned to Korvosa to find his parents and sister had vanished. Asking around, he was told that some of Lamm's men had come to collect a debt his father owed. Nobody has seen any of them since.

More investigation suggested that Aeliana was now a "Little Lamm," and that his parents had been relieved of their burdens. Since then, he's been trying to get the Korvosan Guard to do their job and deal with Lamm as the monster he so obviously is. His frustration at their continued apparent lack of effort is matched only by his frustration at his inability to find (and deal with) Lamm himself.

    Appearance:
A young man of unimposing stature, Savinus' pale skin, hair so dark that only the highlights show any signs of brown and dark eyes display a nearly pure Chelaxian bloodline. His worn gear, armor and weapons suggest that he's not a powerful member of the Chelaxian ruling class. The look in his eyes is not the typical calculation or brooding look expected of a Chelaxian, either, but one showing concern, or even compassion. The few lines on his young face reveal no inclination to smile.

    Scenario Response:
Starting to move towards the obviously injured halfling before the woman arrives, Savinus doesn't even slow down when she appears, standing over the fallen creature. "Korovsa is a city of laws, and strict punishment for those who break them," the young man talks as he scoops the halfling up into his arms and turns back into the inn. "If the law is on your side, you'll be able to get those of us in here to release the halfling to you. If not, well, there are an awful lot of us, including, I think, a couple members of the Korvosan Guard in the corner, there, where they normally sit. Please, come in and make your case." What few in the room notice is Savinus readying himself to receive a blow from the hooked club. Should she attempt to strike the halfling, he will take the blow to protect the him, at least until Savinus knows better.

I don't really see the character as Lawful, but when you can use the threat of the law to strengthen your position? Well, there's no REAL harm in trying it.

Concept: Gyllan Dow is a “fixer,” someone who can get you what you need in Korvosa - though it may cost you. He comes from another Crimson Throne campaign that recently fizzled. His backstory and crunch are below, though I haven’t bought equipment yet.

Posting: I can easily post once a day – I check the boards regularly, and post more often than that in my PbPs that have the pace to allow it.

Crimson Throne and Me: I have started this AP, but the GM of that game completely changed the beginning and removed Lamm entirely as a character and a motivation, and we didn’t get very far into the game. So my knowledge of the AP as it’s written is essentially zero. (I hear the king is sick, is that so?)

Mechanics: As an urban ranger, Gyllan is a strong melee combatant, and will probably take archery as his combat style. He has studied the ways of the people of Korvosa, and knows the streets like the back of his hand. As a result, he can find things and people, is on friendly terms with lots of folks, and is fairly wise in the ways of the world. (In other words, favored enemy is human and he’s solid on Perception, Stealth, Sense Motive, Knowledge (local) and extremely good at tracking people in the city).

    Scenario:

Gyllan sips his dark ale and looks around the room, thinking Cayden’s Cup! It’s as if someone died, it’s so hushed in here. I was thinking of a quiet pint, but this is ridiculous. Maybe I should… His thoughts are interrupted by the crash of the door flying open and slamming into the wall. ”Finally, some action!” he says to himself, then pauses and says more quietly, ”Ooh, that half-pint doesn’t look too good.”

Without giving it a thought, Gyllan rises and moves towards the door. He knows in a big city like Korvosa, it’s wiser to keep to himself, but he can’t help but go to the injured halfling, especially on hearing his pathetic plea for help. Gyllan breaks his stride for a moment when the woman steps through the door. Uh-oh, she looks like trouble with a stick. What am I getting myself into now?, he wonders briefly, looking closely at her and trying to gauge the situation. Then, crossing the room quickly, his hands raised before him to show he means the woman no harm, Gyllan squats down by the halfling and says loudly, ”Looks like this little fellow could use some help!” Looking around the taproom to involve as many others as he can, and intentionally avoiding eye contact with the woman, he calls out, ”Someone bring me some water and a bit of rag, would ya? Better get this guy cleaned up a bit!”

The player’s guide for this AP suggests flexibility in re-writing the campaign traits a little, so they fit character’s stories. If it works for you, I’d like to use the Missing Child (Sibling) trait, but have the missing child be a niece. Believe it or not, I want to have Diplomacy and Sense Motive as class skills more than I want the +1 to Will saves I could get with the Son/Daughter version of this trait, which includes the niece option. It just fits much better with his Korvosan street kid story that way.

    Appearance:
Gyllan is a bit taller than the average Korvosan, with fairly broad shoulders and a slender build. It is hard to tell if his swarthy complexion is a product of his Varisian heritage or of long days spent in the sun. He has dirty blonde hair cut short, contrasting with his dark brown eyes, which peer eagerly about for the next interesting sight or scene that his beloved city of Korvosa has to offer. He wears a faded black leather coat, though one can glimpse a shiny, new chain shirt beneath it, and worn brown leather leggings and boots cover the rest of him. The hilt of a sword can be seen over his left shoulder, and the tip of a bow protrudes over his right. He moves through the crowds of the city with practiced ease, greeting many acquaintances and former customers as he goes.

    Gyllan's Tale:

Gyllan Dow literally stumbled onto his current path in life. When he was 15 years old, and already a fairly tall lad, he was walking along a side street in North Point, enjoying the thrum of the busy city. A wool-merchant’s cart, one of many carts that entered Korvosa to do business each day, carrying a load of baled wool through the packed streets, jerked into motion in front of him. The strap holding the cart’s gate broke, spilling the load of bales at Gyllan’s feet, rolling on the ground around him and tripping him. The merchant quickly leapt to the ground to recover his goods and, seeing the boy on the ground amidst the bales, offered him a few coppers to help pick it all up.

When the bales were recovered and the cart reloaded, the merchant thanked Gyllan and, after giving him a few coins, asked if he happened to know a quick route to Warehouse Way, at the Guard Street end. Gyllan replied, “I know a quick way to anywhere in Korvosa.” And indeed he does.

Gyllan’s father is a hardworking stevedore on the many docks of Korvosa and his mother was a beautiful Varisian woman who, sadly, died when he was 12. His mother taught him her language, but left him with little else to remember her by but his own dark eyes. Because his father worked all the daylight hours, leaving their house at dawn and returning after dusk, the boy spent a great deal of time alone. As an active, curious boy, he wasn’t about to spend all of his time sitting in their tiny house in The Shingles, waiting for his father to come home. From an early age, Gyllan took to exploring Korvosa, first his local ward, then The Shingles in general, and eventually all of Korvosa. He spent his days wandering the broad avenues, quiet streets and back alleys, finding shortcuts and secret spots, high and low, throughout the city. In the course of his wanderings, he has gotten to know many of the diverse cast of characters that inhabit Korvosa, and enjoys studying them, learning more about people’s kindnesses, flaws and fears. As a result, he knows the city, its ways and its people, better than most.

In response to the wool-merchant’s question, Gyllan said, “You’d do better to come in the High Bridge next time. Lots of carters think the North Bridge will be faster, because they don’t have to pass through two gates, but it takes so long to get through to Midland that it’s not worth it. But I know a quick way to get where you want to go.” He climbed aboard the cart and pointed out an alley to cut through to another side street, and they were on their way. As they travelled, the merchant asked, “If you know so much about Korvosa, boy, I don’t suppose you can tell me where I can get some good red dye, that won’t cost me too dear?” Gyllan thought about the question a moment, and then took a wild guess that a dye-works he knew of, that they’d pass on their route, might have some at a good price. They stopped along the way, and the dye-works offered the wool-vender a good deal. In fact, the merchant was so pleased, he gave Gyllan a couple of gold coins for his help.

Gyllan realized he could put his knowledge of the city to good use. He took to waiting at the city’s gates for merchants coming in to town, offering his services as a guide and asking if he could help them find anything in Korvosa. He began to make a bit of money this way, and soon became known as someone who could connect people with things they needed – a “fixer.” Over time, this meant he was earning a bit more gold at his trade, which meant he had to arm himself and learn a bit about fighting, to protect his earnings. He discovered he enjoyed this training, and his growing body grew stronger and leaner.

Unfortunately, neither his knowledge of the city nor his developing fighting skills were sufficient to protect poor Ella. His little niece disappeared from the streets of Korvosa over a year ago. Gyllan has sought her high and low, and the fact that he has been unable to find her, or even get word of her, tells him she must be in the hands of Gaedren Lamm. He has appealed to the Guard for help, to no avail, and he is prepared to take the law into his own hands to get her back.

Whoops - it looks like I carried over some of the apps from the Jade Regent game. Here's an updated, correct list.

    Martial
    Melee
Crain Tresselmore - Half Elf Barbarian (Drunken Brute)
Andrej Petrow - Human Fighter (Aldori Swordlord)
    Durriken Garde - Ranger (Skirmisher)

    Savinus - Human Fighter
Gyllan Dow - Human Ranger (Urban Ranger)
Dorian Leafthorn - Half-Elf Ranger (Skirmisher)

    Jack McAllaster - Human Rogue

    Divine
    Corso Gaczi - Human Inquisitor

    Arcane
Arianna Elizabeta Sirmikova - Human Witch
    Varrien Tobinus - Half-Orc Alchemist (Melee-Focused)
Nicolai Fortescu - Human Wizard (Diviner)

EDIT: Updated to include the two additional applicants and Dreaming Warforged's Inquisitor option.

As I mentioned in my application, I could play an inquisitor as well with the same concept. That could help cover some divine.

I've just failed to be picked for another CoTCT game, and it's something I would love to play, so I'm just registering my interest.

It will take me a while to finalise the character, but I would like to submit a half-elf inquisitor of Erastil - Marnos Moonshadow. He has grown up in Korvosa and sees it as his duty to hunt down evil. He uses stealth and a Longbow to shoot from the shadows, but is not afraid to mix it up with his falcata. Character details to follow

    Ouch!

I had looked at the list previously posted and tried to target a lower competition listing. Ah, well.

Spell casting archers get a lot of love because of the self-only spells that can boost damage, and so mundane archers sit idle. I think I will stick with my uncommon ranged submission rather than replace it with a Divine/Skilled submission. No duplication for me across games that way.

Heck, there were 7 Feats I wanted to assign for the character's progression that I can't make fit into even a human Fighter's 20 levels of advancement. That's 29 Feats I thought the build should have before it is done. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

    -----

Note on the non-combat mechanics contribution, BTW:

After spending some time looking at the mechanics behind Savinus, my human archery-based fighter, I have found that he will be a source of local knowledge who knows something of gaining the cooperation of the creatures around him, intelligent or not.

    Background:
I don't remember my mother. I remember the sound of her voice and her actions, but no matter how I try I cannot picture her. It has been some years since she brought us to the city. You'll enjoy it here she said. This our chance for a new life, lots of opportunities. This is your city...

That was practically the last thing she said before she died. I still remember those words, they haunt my dreams sometimes; This is your City

The guard was sympathetic, but not willing to get involved. What made me angry was the ring. She always said it was a reminder of who she was, but they took the ring, so I never had any chance to find out who I was. I was angry about lots after that, but with a kid sister to look after, I had to swallow my anger.

We had savings, and they lasted for a while. But food costs, so does rent and clothes and any number of different things. We got lucky. Our neighbour, a weaponsmith by the name of Garroc, saw me eying his lunch hungrily. He gave me some in exchange for help in polishing the weapons, and cleaning and anything else that nedded doing and he fed my kid sister. When our rent ran out, he took us in. That was our arrangement while I grew up, he taught me to care for and repair weapons, he even taught me to use some of the weapons, and he fed us and clothed us. he's the nearest thing I have to family after my kid sister. I never knew my father. My mother never mentioned him.

Of course, I have never stopped looking for the ring. One day I hope it'll bring me back to my mother's killer, and restore me to my heritage.

It was several years later that I met Lorren Leafwhistler. I was trailing through the Pantheon of Many, where Garroc insisted we always come on a sunday, when I came to a shrine. many of the scenes that adorned the walls did not appeal, but there was one showing a huinter aiming his bow. There was something about the picture that caught me and I stood still trying to puzzle it out.

That was when he spoke, "What do you see, boy?" his gruff voice somehow seeming nevertheless soft.

"I don't know. What is it?" I was so enraptured by the icon I didn't even care who I was talking to.

"Erastil. The Hunter. He hunts the Evil of the world. he replied.

The words echoed through my soul: Hunter...Hunts Evil...Your City and suddenly I Knew what I had to do. Noone else was dealing with Evil in the city, I knew that I had to, it was what he wanted.

Lorren saw it too. He saw the calling in my life and agreed to train me. He was a priest of Erastil, assigned to the shrine, but it was soon clear that Erastil had different plans for me. He had called me to be one of his inquisitors, rooting out and hunting down the Evil that infests the world.

I still search for the missing ring, and recently it has paid off. A local merchant has the ring for sale. Unfortunately, it was too expensive for me to buy, but he did tell me who sold him the ring - Gaedran lamm. It seems Gaedran and I have some unfinished business...

Born in the wilds of the Mwangi expanse, Kenrick Geimfind was always a spirited dwarf growing up. His parents were both interested in living a simple life in the middle of no man's land. He grew up with the animals of the jungle all around him. Kenrick met a young ape while on a walk one day and the two soon became greatest friends. The next 20 years he was always on adventures in the forest with his ape Gregor. Then one day as he returned home he found his hovel and his parents hovel in ruins. Standing in the ruins were orcs, thirty to be precise. The orcs were slavers on a mission to capture some of the natural wildlife, and two dwarves were too good to pass up. Dwarf prices were up in the market of Absalom. Kendrick reached for his dagger and charged the orcs with Gregor following closely. Kendrick cut down three of the orcs before he was clubbed down.

When he awoke he found himself alone, surrounded by corpses of orcs. As he searched around he found Gregor, slain by many cuts and blows. But not before he fell another 15 orcs. Kendrick was thought to be dead by the orcs, so they left him and their dead companions to the creatures of the forest. Enraged by the death of his friend and the capture of his parents he chased after the only tracks he could find. After two days time he fell to his knees out of exhaustion. Hoping that Gozreh would provide a quick painless death Kenrick fell asleep in the middle of the jungle floor. Woken by the sounds of a creature in pain Kenrick searched the nearby overgrowth for the source of the noise. He soon found a baby Tyrannosaurus, alone, in the middle of the Mwangi expanse. Seeing this as a sign from Gozreh, Kenrick took the baby Tyrannosaurus and cared for it like a sibling. Kenrick moved from village to village listening to the tales of the villagers who had seen the slavers. Kenrick soon found the coast and with it several sailors who told of the slavers. Determined to find his parents he went from boat to boat trying to find passage to the Orcs next destination. Finally he found a boat traveling towards Absalom. With no money in his pocket he snuck aboard until he reached his destination, avoiding the crew and passengers with grace. Once in Absalom he searched in vain for his parents in the slave market to only find they were sold to a mysterious stranger.
Running low on money Kenrick stops in Korvosa in an attempt to find a job to make income for his travels.

Kenrick is a dwarf Saurian Shamen with a Tyrannosaurus animal companion. Kenrick has a grimy earthy look about him. His armor is made of various beasts he and Grunyar have faced and slain. He wears a simple dirty green shirt and brown breeches. The shirt can be mistaken for part of his armor as both are filthy. His eyes have a kind look to them.

Grunyar his animal companion is still a young Tyrannosaurus, so while not being as big as his brethren he is still as fierce. Especially in protecting his savior Kenrick. Grunyar stands at 5ft and it's hard to tell his hide from the armor Kenrick has made for him.

    2. I can post several times a day. Sometimes even more.

    3. I know nothing about this AP

    4. Kenrick is more of a battlefield control/buffer type of druid. That being said he is still good with an axe! Grunyar has sharp teeth and he puts them to good use protecting Kenrick or tracking down dinner. Out of combat Kenrick is good at the natural side of our world. Surviving in the wilderness is his speciality. (He and Grunyar are good at sensing ambushes.)

    5. Kenrick feeling pity for this poor soul jumps to his feet and rushes to the individual on the floor. Before reaching the halfling Kenrick pulls his whistle out and gives it a sharp blow calling for Grunyar, hoping the sight of a 5 foot monster will distract the woman with the club from doing more harm. Preparing to cast a healing spell on the halfling he yells at Grunyar to step in between the woman and himself. One hand on his axe and the other on the halfling chest Kenrick prepares for what comes next.

  • I have an archer build inquisitor; in combat he can switch between loosing his bow and support spells as needed. He has no problems getting into melee as he can use his falcata to devastating effect. At higher levels he will be using tactician and Monster Lore to take down his opponents.

Out of combat, he has a large number of useful skills; Perception is especially high, sense motive, stealth, acrobatics and climb are all good. he has not had much formal education, so only Knowledge (local) has any ranks in it, but that will change as he levels up. he is especially adept at following rumours in a city environment and hunting down criminals, which is his role as an inquisitor of Erastil.

  • As the woman looks down, she is distracted by the sound of a chair scraping backwards. Out of the gloom in the corner she sees a young half elf with an intense look on his face step out of the shadows. She didn't hear him draw his weapon, and his feet are placed in a stalkers pose, so she knew that scraping his chair was deliberate. When he speaks, it is in a deep, low growl:

"Lady, you picked the wrong day to come hunting on my turf"

It is obvious that he is competent with the weapon he is holding and the intensity of his look suggests he means business. Maybe the Halfling is not worth that much.

Gyllan fits better in the melee martial category, as he's mostly a two-handed weapon type.

I did say he'd likely take the archery combat style, but mostly because the 2H weapon style has fairly lackluster feats, and it makes him reasonably decent as an archer if the need arises. But that plan could change depending on what the shape of the party is.

    Charlherst:
Charlherst, often called Charl for short, is a gnome gunslinger (pistolero). He was a student at the Acadamae for a while, but he didn't last long. He dropped out before he finished his first year. The masters didn't like his continued obsession over what he called "boomsticks." Charl continued to try to talk about them in every class despite continued warnings that they had no place in the magical school of the Acadamae. Charl eventually decided it wasn't the place for him. He left to continue his studies of firearms. They were such intriguing contraptions.

As he continued in Korvosa, he eventually came across Gaedren Lamm, a man with a fowl reputation. Charl however didn't really care about that at the time, because he was given a bit of something that was supposedly an excellent experience. It was shiver. Charl loved the vivid dreams that came from it. He couldn't get enough. He even abandoned his studies for a time.

Eventually the drug caught up with him. Even his gnomish constitution could not put up with that much of the drug. He nearly died, spent days in a drug induced coma with no dreams. Charl woke, emaciated and weak. He stumbled down an alley and was lucky that the door at the end of it housed a retired healer. The man nursed Charl back to health over a months time. But it took Charl much longer to finally rid himself of the addiction to shiver.

Once he had finally brought himself back to where he had been before, Lamm had found him, though slightly worse for the wear, Charl swore vengeance on the man who took so many years away from him. He began his search for Gaedren Lamm.

Personality: Charl is extremely interested in tinkering with things. He loves to figure them out and attempt to put them back together. So much so that he might do it when he has no idea how to do so. He is fickle when it comes to religion. His personal philosophy more closely resembles Desna's teachings than any other gods. Though he has never actually worshiped her in his life. He keeps changing the god he is worshiping, as well as warping their ideals to meet his own, though honestly more from a lack of knowledge and caring than anything else. He is currently "following" Urgothoa. Charl is slightly darker than most other gnomes because of his recent brush with death, but still gets excited about many new experiences.

    Posting Habits:
I can easily post once a day. But probably not more than twice. I don't have experience on these forums, but I've played on another site before.

    Experience:
I have played the first little bit, but the GM dropped the game after the first encounter. So I've got a good feel for the start of the AP, but not so much for later parts.

    What Charl Contributes:
I hope that Charl will be a good distraction in battle, charging at opponents, gun (possibly eventually guns) blazing and breaking up the enemy concentration. (Ex. One of the main feats I'm working towards is Leaping Shot Deed.) Out of battle, I hope he would be a good source for Knowledge (especially when it comes to engineering and crafting things). He is also fond of creating new curses for each of his religions. I also hope he'll be a good place to get broken things fixed.

    The Scenario::

A darkly colored gnome stands up from his table in the center of the room, the large brim of his hat flopping slightly. "By Urgothoa's beard! That's no' right." Before the gnome finishes his first sentence, he's already begun moving. He runs at the startled woman, a long metal tube with a handle appearing in his hands. It looks worn, battered possibly harmless, but the noise it makes is deafening. The silence afterwards is so deafening that the gnome can barely be heard yelling, "Get out of here you ashy infantile disease."

Andrej Petrow here. I could also provide this Cleric. He was made for an Skulls&Shackles campaign, but I could rewrite his Background and change the campaign trait.

Submission for "Fingers" Mitchell. Rogue Burglar/Cutpurse.

Concept: Fingers has been an orphan growing up as one of Lamm's lambs. He thieving ways landed him in the stockade, from which he only now returning. He thinks Lamm or the Cerulean Society had something to do with his jolt in jail, and has an axe to grind. He is extraordinarily self-interested and not at all going to volunteer for "Hero Nonsense" unless well worth his time financially.

Posting Frequency: I agree that slow posts means early death for most PbP. I can easily do 2x/day sometimes more.

Experience with AP: Getting ready to run a CotCT game on these very boards with a private crew. Have prepped the first mod, but still reading/researching the others. Of course, IC knowledge would have to be limited. I'd also like to see your take on certain aspects. I will gladly share maps etc if you like...

Mechanical contribution: Traps, locks, sneaking, stabbing, are all the hallmarks of this build type. Fingers can do them all.

Fingers watches the scene disinterestedly, yawning. While a nearby paladin goes over to investigate the scene, Mitchell nabs the paladin's purse, pack, and even a bite of dinner from his plate. Chuckling to himself, he strolls past the mark and out the door. "Guess he'll learn that do-gooders never prosper."

    Sovereign Court

Actually mind if I pull Kenrick and post another character I have created? The character is evil, but not in the sense of messing the party up. He worships Lamashtu and he is literally insane.
(He is evil cause of the things he has done, and the insanity doesn't help either.)

    Cicero's background:
Cicero, where to begin? A gnome born into a cult, quick to succumb to madness, a fantastic lier. All the ingredients for a noble of Cheliax, too bad Cicero isn't a noble. Cicero left his family (not his beliefs or madness) to be a noble. Cicero left for Egorian in an attempt to make himself a long lost member of House Sarini. Under the name of Rodderick he made a name for himself in the smaller courts, until house Sarini saw through his disguise and ordered the imposter to be executed. (The murders he committed to get where he was didn't help) Luckily Cicero was skilled in the art of lies (and madness). Cicero caused two of the guards to run away in fear, one fainted of fright, and the others saw the little gnome simply disappear.

Cicero now lives in the outskirts of the Golarion, waiting to make his comeback.

    Sovereign Court

Sadly the last post isn't letting me edit it so here is the who application if it's ok with you.

    Cicero's application:

Cicero now lives in the outskirts of the Golarion, waiting to make his comeback
(He has found himself in the Shoreline Drinkhall merely by coincidence. The name reminded him of drowning a certain Talden noble)

Cicero is a gnome about 3ft tall, his outfit is of the latest style from Cheliax. He has a rather like able face and carries a cane with the shape of a skull in his right hand. At times when his madness is worst he will often paint a skull on his own face attempting to scare or intimidate others. (He wears a top hat on his head, it has a red ribbon on it with a skull pendant pined to it)
( I have a chart that I roll a d4 on to see how Cicero reacts. Results are calm, odd, sociopathic, psychopathic)

I can post every day, multiple times.

Like I said with Kenrick I have no knowledge of this AP.

Cicero lacks in the physical department but makes up for it with his spells. He can make a rune lord pee his pants if he really tried. Outside of combat is were Cicero uses his devilish charm to get what he wants. Or else...

    Scenario
    (Determined by the d4)
Cicero enjoying the chilled ale turns around to see what the disturbance was. Seeing the bleeding halfling on the floor brings a grin to his sick mind. But then he remembers that he was thinking of how to best cook a live goblin. Until he sees the odd looking club in the woman's hand. His thoughts turn instantly into a need of that magnificent club.
Straightening his hat Cicero walks towards the woman with a bold air about him. Stepping over the halfling and shaking off some blood that got onto his boot Cicero begins "Ah miss, what lovely eyes you have. A man could search all of Magnamar and not find eyes such as those. Your mother must have been proud to have such a beautiful daughter. I know I would be. Now let's cut to the chase shall we. This poor man has been through enough, and that club of yours. I mean Evidence could lead you straight to prison for something like this. I should know I am in his majesty's court. Now how about you hand over that club and I can dispose of it for you. I would hate to see someone with your looks end up in the musty prisons of Korvosa. I really am doing you a favor, but only this once because of your face." Cicero then uses ghost sound to make it sound like a guard is yelling about what the commotion is all about. "Listen dear, hand over the club and you will be free of this crime. But only because I like your face." *wink* Depending on if the woman cooperates Cicero would yell something like this. "Dear Desna this poor man has tripped! You bartender, you are going to have a lot to answer for. It was your floor he tripped on!"

I'd like to submit Horatio, arrogant prat and bard extradinaire. I built him for a RotRL campaign he didn't get into, and I'd love to play him. Ignore the backstory in the profile, as I had to give him a reason to be in Sandpoint.

    Concept, background, appearance, etc.:

Horatio is a chaotic good human bard, born in Korvosa to Chelaxian parents. He recieved musical training at a young age, with a clear singing voice and a talent for the violin. It wasn't long before he had dreams of becoming a star, and has been performing in various inns and taverns around Korvosa since. He still has big dreams, however, and won't be satisfied until he is Korvosa's - or, indeed, Varisia's - greatest performer. He is bright and outgoing, friendly and charming, and while he prefers to pursue romance with ladies, he isn't opposed to a striking gentleman.

He wasn't always a shameless flirt, though. He had a serious partner once - a young man named Finn, a member of a small acting troupe. It was only when Finn's screaming and night terrors began waking Horatio in the night that he realized his lover was addicted to shiver, a vile drug. Horatio tried to help him off the drug, disposing of his supply and taking him on occasional trips out of Korvosa, hoping to keep him from obtaining more of his drug. But Finn kept finding a way, and eventually overdosed on the substance. Horatio found him dead in the apartment they'd shared. Finn was buried in the Everyman's Ward of the Gray District two days later.

Horatio immediately turned to revenge. It took him two years of searching and leads that often went nowhere to track down Finn's supplier - a foul man named Gaedren Lamm. He immediately took the name to the town guards, who refused to follow it. When Horatio protested, they said they didn't have time for 'a bit player in a beggar's problem'.

Three years after being failed by the law, Horatio still dreams of revenge. He hasn't forgotten Finn, but allows himself to pursue flings and romance again. He still dreams of becoming a star, and still composes music in honor of his lover's memory. Around others, he is cheerful and outgoing, if rather arrogant, but alone, he is more withdrawn, still prone to melancholy and days of ennui. He has given up on the law, and grows closer and closer to taking the matter into his own hands - if he can ever find Lamm, of course.

Horatio is around six feet tall, and on the slim side. He has a dashing smile, a slender jaw, typically Chelaxian dark hair (a deep brown), and a flirtatious gleam in his dark green eyes. He tends to dress in flattering clothes, often in a mix of both bright and subdued shades - enough to keep attention when he wants it, but not enough to draw it when he doesn't. He always keeps his violin at hand - after all, you never know when a lovely lady might ask for a tune.

    Scenario:

Horatio sighs at the silence, looking idly around the drinkhall. It's almost sunset. She said she'd be here by now. She's probably stood me up again. He drums his fingers on the bar and signals for another ale. As he drinks it, he looks around at the sorry sods in the establishment. This place could use some music. I wonder what would happen if I stood on the bar and started playing.

The doors are suddenly burst open by a bruised, bloodied halfling. "Help...please...help..." he wheezes before collapsing on the threshold. A moment later, a woman wearing dark leather armor and carrying an exotic-looking hooked club comes into view through the still-open door. She looks down at the halfling with a satisfied smile.

Horatio immediately stands and rushes to the halfling, helping him to his feet. "Now now, my friend, can't have you falling all over the place. Have a seat, take my drink; I'll fetch you your own in just a moment. Catch your breath, and we'll get you looked at soon." As he helps the halfling into a seat, setting his own mug of ale in front of him, he lets a faint wash of healing magic flow from his fingers, hoping it helps. He leans in to the bartender, muttering under his breath, "Fetch him some help, and call the guard."

He brushes himself off and turns to the woman. "Now, my dear, you can't just go around beating those smaller than yourself. I'd like to hear your side of this story, as I'm afraid it doesn't look good from an outsider's prespective, you know? However, I don't think we've met, so allow me to introduce myself. Horatio Aldebrant's the name. You've probably heard of me as something of a musical virtuoso. How about I buy you a drink and we can talk about this? Not here of course, somewhere nicer." He puts a hand on her shoulder, trying to lead her out of the bar, but walking slowly, ready to cast an enchantment spell if need be.

As for how often I can post? Usually at least once a day. I'm in four other PBPs at the moment, but I haven't been in any of them long enough to prove a consistent posting history. As for the AP, I'll be completely honest and say that I've read all the books, and am planning on running it for my group in the future.

If accepted, I plan on building Horatio as a supporting skill monkey. In combat, he'll be using his magic and performance, resorting to melee if necessary. Outside of combat, he'll be using social and knowledge skills to help make the party's life easier. In character, he's arrogant, so he'll see his inspiring performance as key to the party's success, and outside of combat, he'll be a know-it-all and see himself as a perfect people person, always looking for a chance to show off.

I think I'm still pretty bad at building compelling characters, and pretty good at rambling backstories that don't really go anywhere. Be gentle.

All right, everyone. We're nearing the end of the recruitment.

I intend to post the selected party this afternoon, but if you still haven't applied, there's still time. Barely.

Okay, I updated Nicolai to fit in with the Curse of the Crimson Throne AP and rewrote his background to fit as well.

    Background:

Nicolai Fortescu grew up in the slums of Old Korvosa, where he lived with his mother Tatiana (a fortune teller) , his father Bogdan (a minstrel in the local taverns) and his sister Katrina. Life was good for the young boy as he did all the things that young boys do. One of the things that Nicolai loved to do was to sit in on the readings that his mother used to do . He would sit quietly in the corner of their tenement room as his mother would bring out her harrow deck and lay the cards out on the table. He listened intently as she described for her clients the portents that the cards signified and what they meant for that person's future. After each reading the client would pay his mother and leave happy, hearing exactly what they wanted to hear in the reading.
Whenever his mother wasn't home Nicolai would often take the harrow deck and lay out the cards to do readings for his friends. One day one of Nicolai's friends fell to his death while running the Shingles through Bridgetown. A frightened Nicolai told his mother that night that he had used her cards to do a reading for his dead friend and that he had forseen that accident but couldn't tell his friend that and now that boy was dead. Shaken, Nicolai's mother put the young boy to bed that night with reassurances that it wasn't his fault and there was nothing he could have done to prevent the accident either. That night his parents discussed what to do and decided that whatever it took they would get Nicolai into the Acadamae to learn how to control his Gift.
Time passed and Nicolai began doing readings of his own to help the family make ends meet. As word of his eerily accurate readings began to spread he soon had more and more clients, some of them wealthy merchants or minor nobility wanting to know their futures. Soon the family had the necessary money to send young Nicolai to study at the Acadamae. Nicolai's stint at the prestigious school didn't last long as he found the rigid environment of the school too stifling and he dropped out before his first year was completed. Although he didn't make it past his first year Nicolai had learned enough of the basics that he continued to teach himself magic and soon had honed his craft.
Shortly after his mother's death of fever, with his father staying out in the taverns after his singing gigs and drinking most of his take home pay and his sister out running the streets with one of the local street gangs Nicolai found himself at the Pantheon of the Many praying to Desna for guidance when he heard the most beautiful sound he had ever heard. Turning his head he saw an angel singing to the goddess' statue in her shrine. The "angel" was a young initiate of Desna named Natalia who smiled shyly at Nicolai when she noticed him looking at her. The two soon became lovers and moved into a one room apartment in Old Town together. Almost a year passed before Nicolai proposed and Natalia accepted. Giving his betrothed his mother's ring Nicolai and Natalia soon settled into wedded bliss, until one night.
One afternoon Natalia left their apartment to do some shopping in the market while Nicolai entertained a few clients. As darkness began to fall Nicolai began to grow concerned that his wife had not returned yet from shopping. Determined to find her Nicolai grabbed his cloak and headed toward the door only to stop short as someone knocked on the door. With his inner dread growing he opened the door only to be met by two men in the livery of the city guard. His fear confirmed, Nicolai shouted out against fate as the two men asked him to come with them. Dumbstruck Nicolai followed them to any alley not too far from his home. There he found his beloved Natalia face down in the gutter. She had been knifed in the back and left to die. Her purse and it's meager belongings as well as her wedding ring were missing.
Devastated, Nicolai sank into a deep depression and soon his morose readings began chasing his clients away. Destitute, Nicolai began wandering the warrens of Bridgetown hoping someone would take his life as they had taken Natalia's. It was during one of these walks that he happened to glance a familiar object in a nearby stores window. It was Natalia's wedding ring. Overcome with rage Nicolai burst into the shop and accosted the owner until the man told him where he had gotten the ring. The owner told him he had purchased the ring from a local Ne'er do well named Gaedren Lamm. Determination flared inside Nicolai as he became determined to find this man and extract vengeance upon him for his beloved Natalia and himself.

Boy, once I get on a roll, I really get on a roll.

    Long like Dorian

Ive actually been passed over because of that in the past

Striking a balance between length and depth can be tricky. I'd rather go long than try and condense too much and leave out important details/plot hooks.
