By the time Bryndís has considered the drawings and what they mean for getting about in such a place, she is frowning. She speaks up to the mayor about it.

"If the drawings show what the place is like, we will need special tools to get in. Such tools are not normal to carry and we do not have them. This is not a normal place, and we cannot go into it without them. It is too much money, more than we have, to buy long ropes, iron spikes, hammers, and the other things. This should have been said in your message to the Pathfinders. This is hidden risk and expense. If we do not have these special tools, we will not be able to go to all the places down there to look for your children."

"We will need extra money to get what we need. I think 100 in gold coin will be enough. You must give that much to us now. When this is done, we will keep the things we bought, and you give us 100 less than agreed, 1,900 in gold instead. Salvage rights and the 1,000 gold from the archaeologists stays the same as before. This must be done if we will do this job right."

"Do you agree?"

Bryndis (Diplomacy 19) Kendra considers Bryndis’s offer. “Your point is valid.” She says in a very direct way. “I accept your offer.”

After agreeing to the terms, she retrieves a small pouch from her belt, opens it, and then counts out one hundred gold. After the gold is separated, she pulls out an empty pouch from the desk’s drawer and then slides the gold into the pouch. “There, that should cover it.” she says just before sliding the pouch over to Bryndis.

After concluding the gold exchange, Kindra looks over at Ionatan. "I hope you're right. For everyone's sake."

Then she looks at Ceru. "That sounds like a fairytale, but I suppose the drawing does depict a tree underground."

Wayilant stands nonplussed in the Mayor's office at Bryndis's negotiation tactic.

As the group leaves the office, the cleric walks close to the bloodrager. "Cayden, Bryndis! That was impressive display of logical negotiation!

"We make a living by contracts now. We must stand up for ourselves. If we think of ourselves as dogs before a master just because we agreed to do something days before, we will be treated as dogs. Group Buffs:

I’m going to assume that you still intend to split the group, some heading to the general store, others heading to the Rusty dragon to secure rooms. I'm also going to assume the group intends to stay the night at the Rusty Dragon seeing rooms where secured. In order to move things along, I’m going to touch on the night’s events and push things into the next morning. If anyone wishes to back post, feel free to do so.

After concluding your interaction with Mayor Kindra Deverin the group heads out. Half of your group slits and heads to the general store, where they find the provisions they were looking for. While the other half heads to The Rust Dragon and secures rooms.

The Rusty Dragon is Sandpoint’s oldest inn, notable for the impressive (and quite rusty) iron statue of a bronze dragon that looms on the building’s roof, doubling as both iconic decoration and lightning rod. The Rusty Dragon features a full-service tavern, where drinks like raspberry mead and ale along with the owner’s own specialties of curried salmon and cheese-curd-stuffed artichoke hearts are quite poplar.

After securing rooms and gear, the group rendezvous back at the inn where the night slides by with a good meal and endless drinks. Social interactions and activities seem abundant, while the locals take advantage of the establishment's warm and dry interior. Overall, the night is enjoyable, and concludes with a restful night’s sleep.

The following morning the group gathers in the dining area for the morning meal, which includes eggs, sliced pork shoulder, bread, and warm coffee. After enjoying the meal, you head out. After passing through the city’s Northgate, you make note of multiple merchant caravans who are taking advantage of the change in the weather. People from all over are lined up, seeking admittance into the city. Passing by the caravans, you head north, up Sandpoint’s main road. You travel about three hours before coming upon the old road that Kindra mentioned. It’s unkept cobblestone path separates periodically, revealing patches of moist dirt. Overgrown shrubs, some standing over five-foot-tall, occasionally reach across the road and block your path.

Group Buffs:

After about seven hours of fighting back the foliage and navigating the broken road, you come across a large ravine. At the road’s closest approach to the cleft, several broken pillars jut from the earth where the ravine widens and opens into something more akin to a deep, but narrow, canyon. Two of the pillars stand straight, but most of them lean against the sloped earth. Others are broken, and several have apparently fallen into the darkness-shrouded depths. A few similar pillars are visible on the opposite side of the ravine.

Looking either direction you can see that the ravine runs for several miles in either direction, with an average depth and width of 30 feet. At the point where it most closely intersects the Old Road, it widens to 40 feet. It also plunges much deeper into the earth near the pillars. Looking down into the ravine, you see that a knotted rope has been tied to one of the pillars and descends deep into the darkness below.

Dark & Low Light Vision:
Those with dark vision can see that the rope extends about fifty foot onto what looks like a sandy ledge. You can also make out small handholds that have been carved into the cliff’s face that run from the ledge to your current location. Looking down past the ledge you see a stone stairway leading down before your vision fades into the darkness. You can only assume that the depth is beyond your visual acuity.

Talienda doubles over as she catches her breath after the grueling hike. She looks down the ravine where they'll be climbing. She'd been worried all day about Alina, who'd caught a bad cold and was stuck in the Rusty Dragon, but after her first seven-hour trek by foot, she's not looking too good herself.

"It-- It looks like there's a sandy ledge about fifty feet down," she says, gasping for air every second or third word.

Unimportant Fluff in the Tavern:

Ceru sneaks back into the kitchen and begs the chef for the curried salmon recipe.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

Along the road, Ceru is cheerful and chats with whomever wants to chat. She tires walking along on little legs but does not complain.

When they arrive at the site, she nods in agreement with Ionatan and Dario. "Indeed, we don't want to not be able to outrun zombies because our feet hurt."

She reaches into a sack and hands the out-of-breath Talienda an apple. "Drink some water and eat this, you'll feel better." Potassium and sugar for the win!

Ceru volunteers to serve on the last watch (wee hours of the morning) as she can prepare her extracts for the day. She tells the party she'll probably prepare a protective shield formula for herself but has the capacity to prepare an additional extract and can't decided between healing (CLW) or growth (enlarge person). What do they think?

Shall we say three watches? Two people on each shift?

Talienda gratefully accepts the apple before doing as Ceru suggests, pulling out her waterskin and drinking from it. After a few minutes she's recovered enough to not look like she should have stayed behind with Alina.

"Thank you Ceru," the young noblewoman tells the gnomish woman.

When the subject of watches comes up, Talienda offers to take the last watch with Ceru.

"I think the healing one would be better. We might not find an opportunity to make use of the one that makes people bigger," Talienda suggests when asked about what Ceru should prepare for tomorrow.

After leaving the Sandpoint Town Hall, Wayilant travels with a few of the other Flagon Slayers to get supplies for the next day in The Vendez Family Store. The gregarious cleric chats with the Vendez family as the group shops for ropes and climbing gear. Though tempted, Wayilant did not purchase one of Miss Vendez pies, thinking he'll likely fill up at the tavern.

Once inside the expansive tavern, Wayilant was immediately impressed. The former bartender closed his eyes. ”Ionthan. Can you feel it?” The cleric asked the swashbuckler. ”This place has strong caydenite energies. The Rusty Dragon has been blessed by Cayden Caliean. I can FEEL it!”

After getting their rooms, the Flagon Slayers came down to order dinner together. Luckily, the group found a table they could all eat together. The adventuring party talked, laughed, and flirted with each other throughout the meal. Afterward, Wayilant went over to introduce himself to the beautiful tian woman who was the owner of The Rusty Dragon, Ameiko Kaijitsu.
Diplomacy (Charming): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22
Both the caydenite and the shelynite chatted into the evening. Sadly, Wayilant was unable to convince the bar owner to share his bed that evening, but kept the flirtation up nonetheless. Eventually, tired and heavy with drink, Wayilant walked to his room to say his evening prayers and went to sleep.

In the morning, Wayilant poured his applejack into his tankard, said his morning prayers, receiving his clerical spells, then praised Cayden's name, and drank the contents of the tankard down. The cleric went downstairs to share breakfast with the rest of The Flagon Slayers.

At the campsite, the cleric offers to take the first watch, hopefully not alone.

Ceru (Diplomacy 13) At first, the chef seems genuinely pleased to have Ceru’s company. In fact, he actually allows her to help a bit if she wishes. When Ceru mentions the recipe, he gets a complete look of terror on his face. “No mam! I couldn’t hand out that recipe. It’s Ameiko’s, and she would skin me alive if I gave it out without permission." Shortly after addressing the recipe, an older looking Halfling woman pops her head through the room’s door. “John, please hurry things up! People are waiting.” After the woman leaves, the chef turns and begins working twice his normal pace.

Wayilant (Diplomacy 22) Ameiko seems to genuinely enjoy your company and she doesn’t waste any time when it comes to venting about her late father and brother who both ended up being a great disappointment. Although she seems disinterested in a romantic connection, she does come off as being open to a friendship.

With the evening approaching, the group backs away from the ravine’s edge and sets up a camp. The area seems well situated with trees capable of providing splotchy canopy-cover from any potential rain. Shrubs and rocky outcroppings are more than common, providing enough fire building material if needed. Backpacks hit the ground and bed rolls become unbound. Ceru finds a suitable tree to tie off the mule as she begins unpacking well prepared food items and her tent. Before long, the area begins to resemble a camp. Everyone please remove 1 day of food and water.

The night begins with a slight breeze that rustles through the trees. Most of the group eats and then beds down for the night. Sometime during the first watch, Wayilant picks up a slight difference in the sound of the wind. It almost sounds as if the rustling of the leaves doesn’t line up with the breeze itself. Before he can investigate the oddness, six creatures stumble out of the nearby shrubs. They stand about 3 1/2 feet tall and have leafless branches that intertwine, creating a sinister humanoid shape. Talienda is awaken by her cat, who senses that something is moving around. The temperature is cool, but not cold. No blanket is required at this time. The ground is moist, but your bed roll helps to keep you dry. No bed roll means fatigue the following morning due to moist conditions.

Knowledge Arcana (DC 16):
You have never seen these creatures before. They resemble a creature called a Twigjack. Although similar to the Twigjack, they are slightly bigger and are oddly different.

Knowledge Arcana (DC 21):
By watching the creature closely, you are able to determine that they don’t have the Twigjack’s ability to splinter spray, nor do they seem to be able to jump between bushes. From the looks of it, the creature will only take half damage from piercing attacks due to its splintered frame and seems to have some sort of sap secretion on its claws that appears to be poisonous. Because of its plant like qualities, you believe it is Immune to sleep, paralyzation, stunning, mind-influencing effects, and polymorph; In addition, the ting will likely not be affected by critical hits.

Knowledge Arcane (DC 26):
Due to your vast knowledge and observation skills, you impart a +1 to hit and damage circumstance bonus for the entire group agents these creatures.

Talienda wakes as Echo frantically bats her in the face. She sits up and looks around to see their camp has been invaded.

"Wh-what are you," the inexperienced, young sorceress asks the twig creatures in a voice made shrill by panic.

Echo leaps into Talienda's arms, not liking the look of these things. Talienda, sensing Echo's distress through their link scrambles to her feet. Seeing that half the party is still asleep, she takes in a deep breath.

"Wake up! We have guests," she shouts.

At the Rusty Dragon:

It doesn't take too long at all for Bryndís to start attracting attention in the common room. Her appearance stands out, and she is a loud, backslapping type when she gets going. She is also a shiny new thing in a small town. Soon, Bryndís is holding court at a large table with locals crowding around.

There are a few empty tankards on the table now. What had started as a comment from her about Sandpoint being a good caravan stop had led to Bryndís declaring that generally she doesn't like small towns. From there it further morphed into a treatise from her about life guarding caravans, and how long haul caravans are better than the smaller localized ones that stop in all the towns along the way.

"No, no, long caravans are the easy ones. If you know how to pick a good caravan master, there are no problems."

"A good master will know the place you are going, and what is in between. The good master will stock supplies because they know the time of travel, and they will hire enough security for traveling that road."

"The travel is easy because the caravan will not look weak so it is left alone. If some bandits do try to take the caravan they can be killed and driven off without problems. No risk, just travel."

"It is the short travel caravans that stop at every place on the way that are hard. In Varisia these are the ones that are mostly families who go from place to place and stay there for a few days to sell things and entertain people."

"The very smallest places are glad to see the caravan, and the biggest cities don't care if you come or not. The places in between can be trouble. They always say the people with the caravan steal from the town. This is because they are Varisians and that is what everyone thinks of them. But we did not steal, never! There was none of those Sczarni trash with the caravan either."

"What really happens is the town's own thieves use the chance to steal more because people will blame the caravan. This can be very dangerous. People can get angry and attack the caravan, but they are not bandits. If you do not defend it, the caravan people can be hurt or killed. Maybe the caravan wagons are looted and burned. If you do defend the caravan, the local law might arrest you. Even self-defense might not matter."

"I was with a caravan like that for a while. We found a way to handle the problem. When we came to a town and stopped there, we would all watch very very close in the first day. When people were buying things and so forth we all watch. The very first time anybody tries to steal something, like picking a pocket, we catch them. It was always a person from the town like I said. The thief is brought to me. I had a metal hook bolted onto the side of one of the wagons. I would hang the thief from the hook by their belt or clothes, then I would beat them. Nothing too bad really, just fists."

Sigrun holds up a fist as a visual aid, then uses it to take a long pull from her tankard.

"Maybe the thief gets a broken rib or something. But it looks very bad, lots of blood if you hit them in the right places. And they howl of course. A big crowd will come around to see it happen. Then, when I am done with the beating, I take down the thief and throw them in the mud. Varisia has lots of rain, so there is always mud to throw them in."

"After, I point out the thief to the crowd and tell them all loudly 'If you steal, we will catch you and this happens'. When we did this at a town, there would be no extra stealing, and we would be left in peace."

Sigrun smiles after this story, which relates so much cleverness and diplomacy on her part. Then she takes another long drink from her tankard.

I'll go ahead and make the check, but wait to post until after Wayilant.

Group Buffs:

Echo, hearing something moving through the shrubs, paws Talienda multiple times in the face. Realizing something is wrong, Talienda awakens just in time to see the quiet moving creature’s rush the camp. Lightning fast, the cat leaps into Talienda’s arms, making itself no longer a target. Frantic to not be caught laying on the ground, Talienda quickly stands up, which makes her vulnerable to two of the nearby creatures. (Provokes AoO from Twig 3 & 5). Feeling like something is off, Wayilant quickly reacts to the uneasiness by drawing his blade. The sound of Talienda’s Shrill alerts everyone that there is danger, while Echo adds to the chaos by hissing profusely at the creatures. (Because Talienda has alerted everyone, the group is now fully awake and can act in round 1.)

Acting as if they are virtually numb to the group’s reaction, the Twig-like creatures continue their assault. The cracking sound of their small frame creaks with tension as they draw back sap covered, wicked looking claws. Before anyone can properly react, they begin tearing into the group.

The first creature (1) swings two wicked claws at Wayilant, who manages to dodge both assaults. The second creature (2) stands menacingly over Ionatan, who just woke to the horrified scream of Talienda. Reaching down, the creature rakes both claws across the swashbuckler's front torso. One skims across his armor, but the other digs deep into his chest. The third (3) creature catches Bryndis unprepared. The shambling form swings two claws in quick succession at the blood ragger's right appendage. One claw slides harmlessly across her armor, while the other digs into her lower arm. The fourth (4) rakes two claws at Wayilant, which are also ducked and avoided. The fifth (5) presses the attack on Talienda, which successfully strikes the sorceress a second time. The sixth, (6) and final creature, takes advantage of Dario's prone position. After brining both of its claws down into a forward rake, it manages to sink one of its claws into his shoulder.

Tears stream down her face and her wounds burn coldly as numbness spreads from them.

Group Buffs: I.D. +1 Attack and Damage.

Finally realizing his predicament, Dario grabs his special scarf and then attempts to regain his feet. In the process he becomes a bit more vulnerable, which the creature takes advantage of. (Provoked AoO from twig 6). Fortunately, the clumsy creature swings high, missing its intended target completely. Ceru stands and opens her tent flap just in time to see the Twigjack-looking creature take a claw attack at Dario. Quickly passing on what information she knows about the thing, she alerts the group about surprising details that are obviously useful in the current situation. Awaken by Talienda’s warning, Ionatan jumps to his feet, (Provoking an AoO, which misses) and then thrusts his thin blade at the entwined brambles of the creature. Although probably not the best method of attack, the strike ends up being very accurate. The tip of his blade ruptures a number of the creature’s primary branches, which splinter, causing the creature to partly lean to one side. Although the attack was affective, the creature still remains vigilant as its bramble-lined maw gapes open in horrifying manner. No longer surprised by the small creatures, the bloodrager draws a massive two-handed sword and then brings it into a powerful chop. Realizing its impending doom, the small stick-creature opens its mouth, releasing an ultra-high-pitched cry just before Bryndis’s blade shatters it into hundreds of splinters. Shortly after the cry, the other creatures turn and look at Bryndis. Haven received multiple strikes from the little creature, Talienda’s system attempts to fight off the effects of the sticky sap that’s now dripping from her wounds. The toxin of the sap leaves the young sorceress feeling a bit lightheaded. (Staggered) After observing Bryndis shatter one of the creatures, Talienda staggers a bit closer to the bloodrager. Echo continues to hiss while digging its claws into Talienda’s arm, alerting her that the cat is fighting mad. Spending most of his energy dodging attacks while detouring two of the creatures from engaging the rest of the group, Wayilant makes a halfhearted attack at one of the things. His thin blade slides straight through the creature’s splintered frame and out the other side without making any meaningful contact.

The creatures continue their assault. All but one of them seem inept when dealing with the group in a more prepared state. Still committed to their attack, each takes multiple swings at their original target, missing almost everyone horribly. The one that was pressing Talienda (5) followed her as she staggered back five feet but shifts its attention to Bryndis after the bloodrager shattered (3) the one that was attacking her. Attacking with both claws, it manages to rake Bryndis across the midsection, causing small horizontal bloodlines as its razor-sharp claw slashes across. Ionatan, now on his feet and fully prepared for the attack, easily bats away one of the creature’s (2) claws and then follows up with a secondary thrust that splits the thing in two.

I got Ionatan and Dario's avatars mixed up. (Sorry)
I've got it fixed now.

Heal(To tell how bad off she is): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 I'd say that's enough for her to realize she's too hurt to try anything.

Round 2
Actions:

Talienda steps out of the melee and only as her legs threaten to buckle as her vision swims does she realize how badly hurt she is. She winces as Echo digs her claws into her arm, but she continues to hold the cat, not wanting her to get hurt as well.

Ok, I figured that was the case, but wanted to make sure.

Dario begins twisting in a way that somewhat resembles a dance while spinning his scarf around in conjunction with his movement. In one fluid motion, he propels the end of the scarf at the creature and then quickly retracts it just shy of striking the thing. Using the tent’s flap for concealment, Ceru enchants herself with a magical protective barrier and then draws her short sword. After a small adjustment, Ionatan once again thrusts his blade with precision, striking the huddled-up mass that makes up the creature’s (6) head. The blade slides through a horde of branches while splintering many of them along the way. In response to the new combatant, Bryndis brings her blade into another hewing attack. The blade strikes the thing's midsection, spraying small branches all over the camp. Talienda staggers a bit further from the fight and then takes stock of the many small injuries covering her body, while Echo continues to guard her master with hissing threats that resonate across the camp. Still ducking and dodging incoming attacks, the cleric Wayilant finally finds a solid spot to drive his blade into. After cracking off a large portion of the thing's shoulder, the creature half buckles, but manages to barley stay upright.

With waning numbers, the two remaining creatures, (1) & (4) disengage Wayilant, and then withdraw into the nearby shrubs. Minute movement can be heard in the darkness as the two creatures quickly dart from shrub to shrub.

Out of Combat

Being late into the night, the group still has a few hours before dawn. After examining what remains of the bramble stick creatures, Ceru is able to discern that they are much different than the Twigjack, which is more akin to a fey. These creatures are quite literally a form of tainted plant, which are far more different than similar to the Twigjack.

The rest of the night will pass quietly, so the group is welcome to heal, rest, recover resources, etc. Feel free to back post anything you wish to do during this short period. I’m going to move things to the following morning.

The following morning is greeted with the smell of fresh jasmine lingering in the air. After a quick look around, you find multiple outcroppings of the plant growing nearby. The morning sun, which sporadically penetrate the overhead tree canopy, beams down onto the ground causing splotches of sunlight her and there. Small outcroppings of stone litter the area, reminding you that the ravine is fairly close by and awaiting your return.

Favor Fluff: Wayilant's Healing:
I forgot I wanted to post this in Discussions, but I'd like to add some flavor to the caydenite cleric's use of positive energy:

Any time a character receives positive energy healing, via a cure spell of channel energy, the character rolls a Con saving throw. The DC is 10 + the level of spell/ability used. If you make the DC, the character is healed and makes a small but audible burp. If you don't make the DC, the character is healed and makes a loud, almost obnoxious belch. If you fail the DC by 5, the character is healed, and makes a loud, almost obnoxious belch, and takes 1 point of nonlethal damage. If you fail the DC by more than 5, the character is healed, and makes a loud, almost obnoxious belch, takes 1 point of nonlethal damage and is sickened for one round.

The energy emitted by Wayilant quickly takes care of Bryndís's claw scratches, and she stays on the camp perimeter watching for any signs of the plant people's return as the camp is set back in order.

Bryndís is unhappy about the sneak attack. She is also beginning to worry about Talienda. In their two fights thus far, the girl has shown precious little of the magic Bryndís had assumed she possesses, having to scamper for safety each time. She is also fragile as a butterfly. This most recent fight had been an extremely close thing for her. It would have taken very little more for her to be killed. She wonders if Talienda may have taken up the wrong occupation.

After the fight
Ceru frowns with worry at Tali's injuries, but relaxes as Wayilant's healing spreads through the camp.

"Thank goodness you woke up and warned us, Tali," Ceru says, as she walks over to offer the frightened sorceress a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "Or we all could have been hurt a lot worse."

She looks at the others. "I'm sorry I didn't help more, but you all drove them off amazingly quick. Well done!"

In the morning, proper

As she is up early because she is on last watch anyway, Ceru takes the time after preparing her extracts for the day to make everyone a nice breakfast of cheese biscuits with her travel cake mix, water, and some shreds off her hunk of cheese.

Smelling the strong jasmine, she also pops some of the fragrant leaves wrapped in cheesecoth in a boiling cauldron of water, taken from a nearby stream, to make some jasmine tea, which should help reinvigorate tired spirits.

After the Fight
Talienda gasps as Wayilant's healing washes over her and sets right her wounds. She isn't sure if it's the blood loss or the hops and ale scented cloud of positive energy that leaves her lightheaded. Something rumbles in her belly, and a moment later the source of her dizziness is settled as she lets out a most un-ladylike belch. She blushes furiously in the aftermath and heads back to her bedroll.

"Th-thanks," she mutters as she passes Wayilant. After a few minutes her clothes are cleaned and mended, along with those of anyone else who was hurt.

She curls up and sleeps the last few hours before her watch, her thoughts mirroring Bryndis' as she slips back into the realm of dreams.

Echo, meanwhile, keeps watch over Talienda

In the Morning
Talienda is already up, having taken the last watch with Ceru. The breakfast goes a long way to making her feel better after the nights events, and she thanks Ceru after finishing off her portion.

Looking towards to crevice, she shivers and wonders if she is ready for this. Still, there's a few things she can do.

"I have a few tricks that can help. I can provide us with light and give a way for whomever is going in first to talk to the rest of us," she says. "The lights only last a minute, so I'm not sure how much help that'll be to the person looking around ahead of us, but the other spell can last about ten minutes."

After breakfast, which she enjoys and praises Ceru for, Bryndís leaves straight out with her gear to take another look at the fissure. She has been thinking about the drawings and the problems she sees if they represent what is down in the fissure accurately for the entire journey from Sandpoint.

Bryndís thinks she might have a plan to best ensure a safe descent, but she wants another look. She asks Talienda to come with her, the others need not hurry along with them, and she wants some private time to converse with the girl around the concerns she has about her.

Her worries don't extend to Ceru. The gnome might be even smaller, and is possibly just as fragile, though Bryndís knows nothing of gnomes and cannot say. But, she senses a plucky resourcefulness about Ceru that can offset those things or even make smallness an advantage, like when she fought from under that table.

I'll assume Tali agrees, but if not Bryndís goes alone and ignore the rest below.

As they walk, Bryndís asks Tali "How do you feel this morning? You were badly injured last night."

Sense Motive: 1d20 ⇒ 15

A conversation with Bryndis
Talienda follows Bryndis when the taller woman asks her to come along. Echo scampers along at the sorceress' side as they make their way to the fissure. The question and observation cause Talienda to grimace. She has a feeling about what is coming, and she's not sure if she disagrees with Bryndis if what she suspects is the the truth.

"Well enough, I suppose," she answers. "Wayilant's connection to Cayden is strong. He was able to heal everything as if it had never happened."

Bryndis can see that the young woman is troubled and can guess that last night's events bother her. There's an undercurrent of fear that goes beyond just the most recent events and possibly even what she had revealed to the party on the way north to Sandpoint. What exactly lets Bryndis gain this insight is hard to say. The downcast eyes, the tension in Talienda's narrow shoulders, the way Echo keeps rubbing against the sorceress' legs, or any of a hundred other small clues could be the one that belies the fear the girl tries to keep away from the others.
