The fight escalates as soon as the two ships lock together. The city guards from the Pelican quickly traverse the ship’s rails and then move to engage the undead. Back on the Pelican, most of Henderson’s crew move back and engage the new adversaries that just boarded the ship (Mummies 6 & 7) Both ships squeal as the waves tests the veracity of their hulls while the thick mooring holds both ships tightly together.
Wayilant quickly vaults over to the Goose and then calls to Cayden one final time to aid his cause. Positive energy cascades out across the ship’s deck, causing one of the mummies (Mummy 5) to shudder in its wake. (Will Save success -3 HP)

Back on the Pelican, Darius calls upon his connection to a magical stone in order to bring about a little extra magic. After drawing on the stones power, a barrage of force bolts streak off towards the mummies that just boarded the Pelican. Two missiles per Mummy find their target and slam into them independently (Mummy 6 Hit -6 HP) (Mummy 7 Hit -4 HP). Both mummies collapse under the impact of the attack. (Trip successful.)
Seeing the approaching danger, Talienda summons forth another ray of pure elemental power and directs it towards one of the mummies on the far side of the pelican (Mummy 6) . Unfortunately, the now prone target is very difficult to hit, causing the ray to fade off into the distance. (Miss)
While helping the crew secure the moorings, Gravi alerts everyone about the new arrivals. “Two more of those things just boarded the pelican.”
Redirecting her attention to one of the new arrivals (Mummy 6) . Govrina pulls out another coin and sends it streaking off towards the prone mummy. (Hit -15 HP)
More than ready to bring the fight back to a toe-to-toe situation, Bryndis leaps over both ship’s rails and brings Shadow Talen into a powerful overhand swing, which cuts deeply across one of the mummy’s (Mummy 5) left shoulder (Hit -12 HP) .
The undead press hard and furious. Unrelenting and immune to fear, they press hard than any living person could and show no sign of withdrawing. The guards fight with valor along with Henderson’s crew. Hamilton’s crew on the other hand cowers in different places along the deck of the ship. The fight is difficult, and a price is paid when the sound of one of the Pelican’s crewmen (Crewman 4) can be heard crying out in agony. The undead managed to slam the man hard enough that it split his scull open. Soon after, he dropped to the deck lifeless.

The Pelican’s crew quickly make note of the mummy pressing the two young ladies aboard their ship. At first, they seem reluctant to engage the undead due to its proximity to the mist covered demon woman but eventually decide to press in and engage the mummy.
Over on the Goose, Wayilant moves in and engages the mummy exchanging blows with Bryndis (Mummy 5) . Thrusting forward with his newly acquired frost blade, Wayilant completely misses his mark as the mummy reacts and manages to dodge to the side. (Miss)
Preparing to engage the undead with his crossbow, Darius spends the time necessary to pull back the weapon’s taunt string and load a bolt.
While Darius is preparing to attack the nearby mummy, Talienda invokes Govrina's wand and attempts to reach out and apply its positive energy to the undead. The mummy (Mummy 7) , who is somewhat distracted by the aggression of the crew, doesn’t notice Talienda’s simple attack until it is too late. Talienda feels the rush of energy leave her hand and cascade into the undead, causing it to lurch forward in response. (With the flanking crew, it’s a hit -5 HP.)

Gravi moves over and begins cracking his whip in an attempt to distract the undead. Unfortunately, the attempt seems to have no effect on the mummy as it continues its assault.
Acknowledging the pressing danger of the nearby mummy, Govrina steps back and unleashes some sort of blast, which impacts the mummy (Mummy 7) causing it to almost topple over. (Hit -15 HP)
Bryndis manages to pull back just in time to spit out enough of the sea water to avoid the harsh drowning effect of the undead. (Save successful.) In a quick retaliatory attack, the Bloodrager brings Shadow Talen in for a second powerful chop. The blade strikes true and cuts deep into the undead’s midsection. (Hit – 12 HP) The undead, in turn, crumples to the ground motionless as Bryndis pulls her blade free from its lifeless corps. (Destroyed)
Towards the back of the Goose, the two guards make quick work of the undead they have been fighting. One guard distracted the undead while the second ran his spear straight threw the undead’s skull. The mummy, in turn, crumpled to the deck like a sack of potatoes.

Darius Radulescu |

"Hmm..." Darius lifts the crossbow against his shoulder, and seeks a target. There's a mummy! But a lot of guards are blocking his line of sight.
He turns, aiming along the barrel. Another mummy, and even more guards on the way. Even a master marksman couldn't take that shot - and he for sure wasn't one. He turns even more, now facing The Spry Goose. And there is an enemy, standing by the railing.
Crossbow, shooting to melee: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 3 - 4 = 6 damage: 1d8 ⇒ 8
"Oops.." Indeed, no master marksman. Hopefully there was no collateral damage... But rather than to worry about it, Darius merely reloads the weapon for another try.

Talienda is visibly shaking as she faces the mummy. Her voice takes on a bit of vibrato as she continues to sing. Still, she stands with the guards and tries to land another blow on the mummy.

Unimpressed with his own skill with a crossbow, Darius fires the weapon at one of the mummies (Mummy 3) who happens to be standing nearby. Gravi continues to direct the guards, offering insight and keeping an eye out for additional undead.
After pulling out another copper, Govrina moves closer to the ships rail and launches the coin at one of the mummies (Mummy 3) . The coin almost strikes the undead but ends up missing its intended target and clanks harmlessly onto the ships deck. Although the attack was ineffective, the coin does catch the eye of one of the Gooses crew, who steps over and picks it up. He then begins looking around the area to see if there are any other coins laying around.
@Bryndis: Making your initial save avoided the effect. If you would have failed that save, then it would have taken three consecutive saves to end the effect. At this point, you are good to go.
After destroying one of the undead, Bryndis quickly moves forward to a new target (Mummy 3) . After navigating the ship's stairs, she brings Shadow Talen into a powerful overhead chop. The blade strikes true and sinks deep into the undead’s left shoulder. (Hit – 13 HP) The undead quickly turns to face the Bloodrager after staggering back from the mighty blow.
With many of the undead now destroyed, the crew and the guards begin to overwhelm the last few mummies. Bryndis gets an up-close look at the guard’s handy work as her advisory receives multiple spear thrusts from different angles. The undead jolts left then right as the spears slam into it. Finally, the mummy crumples to the deck as the last spear is pulled from its lifeless corps. Soon, the remaining two undead are destroyed by the overwhelming presence of the Pelican’s crew and the city guards.

With the undead no longer able to prevail, regardless of the roll, I'm going to conclude the fight over.
Out of Rounds
The price was no small thing when considering the fact that the Goose lost more than half of its assigned escort. That coupled with the fact that Henderson lost one of his crew, seems to weigh heavily on both Captains. Henderson steps up after instructing his crew to gather the dead into a pile. “That has to be one of the nastiest fights I have seen in a long time. A number of Hemlocks men fell prey to those things, and I lost Marty, my main rigger. His wife is going to be more than a little upset. Even though I regret the loss, I would hate to think what would have happened if those things made it to Sandpoint.” He says while taking visual stock of who safely made it through the fight.
It isn’t long before Captain Hamilton boards the Pelican. “I’m more than a little embarrassed by the lack of spine my crew displayed. I can ensure you, when we get back to port, I intended to fire every last one of them.” After removing his hat, the captain continues. “We took some heavy losses. I’m afraid the Sheriff isn’t going to be happy about this at all. I count at least three soldiers dead and I find myself hopping that’s the end of those things.” The captain seems genuinely concerned about another attack. After taking a moment to take in the entirety of the scene, he places his hat back on his head and then continues. “Once we get untethered from your ship, we should be ready to continue within the hour.”
Captain Henderson nods with understanding and replies. “I’m going to require about the same amount of time on my end.” Both captains shake hands and then acknowledge your valiant role in the fight. After parting ways, they begin unshackling the ships.

Wayilant Arden |

Morose and exhausted, Wayilant uses his last cleric spells and channel energies to heal the wounds of those who survived the mummy attack on both ships. The aasimar went around both ships creating caydenite water for the Flagon Slayers, soldiers, and crew to drink to the memories of those who died.

Govrina Fireblood |

Tired beyond reckoning, Govrina offers the idea of auctioning off the captured ship and giving the proceeds to the families of those that lost their lives in the fight. She then wanders off to find a place to nap.

Darius Radulescu |

"Hoo boy... I could use drink now." Completely exhausted, Darius collapses on the deck of the ship. The fight was won, some people died. Sucks.
But he doesn't think anyone whose name he should know was among the dead, which is kind of a good thing. Unless you count the undead - there was many of those whom he knew. But they didn't really die in this battle, so maybe they don't count.
Merdu...
"Tell me, prieteni. Is every day this interesting with you lot?"

Wayilant Arden |

"Hoo boy... I could use drink now." Completely exhausted, Darius collapses on the deck of the ship. The fight was won, some people died. Sucks.
The weary cleric walks over and offers a caydenite drink to the tired arcanist. "..Cheers."
"Tell me, prieteni. Is every day this interesting with you lot?"
The weary cleric chuckles. "No. Sometimes we have really bad days. Can't remeber if I got your name before. I'm Wayilant Arden. A cleric of Cayden Cailean." Wayilant toasts the magic user. "To your health."

Talienda Blackhorn |

As it becomes clear that the fight is over, Talienda's legs give out and fold under her, leaving sitting on the deck shivering from the fear she managed to keep at bay through the fight. It wasn't as bad as the Beldrin's Bluff courthouse incident, but it was still more than the young and sheltered noblewoman could stomach. She quickly crawls over to the rail and looses the contents of her stomach into the water. A few minutes later, she finds her legs again and spends what she has left to do what she can for the injured.
2 more CLW spells to help with those that are hurt.
She joins the others once she's exhausted what she can do and hands the wand back to Govrina.
"Th-that was... horrible," she gets out around the lump in her throat. She wants to weep, and she's not sure if its from the tragedy that she's witnessed or from just being so exhausted.

Once the adrenalin subsides, everyone finds themselves fatigued.
The Flagon Slayers, due to not sleeping the prior night combined with the exhausting fight that took place back in the cave, find themselves exhausted.
Exhausted PC’s who rest during the preparation to set sail will revert back to fatigued by the time the ship is ready to sail.
Henderson’s crew stands down on the orders of Captain Hamilton, who has ordered his crew to take up the slack. The guards all take a seat and welcome Wayilant’s offer of beverage and healing.
During one of the moments Bryndis slips into sleep, she has a bizarre dream about Svala. In her dream, both she and her mother are living in a small hamlet enjoying some baked cookies that Svala made the prior day. After taking a bite from one of the cookies, blood starts to run down her hand. That image is shocking enough to cause the Bloodrager to jolt awake.
Moments later, she fades off again. This time Bryndis finds herself enjoying the sun while walking along a wooded trail. Everything feels grand until she looks back over her shoulder and sees a detached eye following her. Before she can respond, she wakes up to the sound of the Pelican’s crew setting sail.
Within the hour, Captain Henderson has his crew finish gathering the dead. He then has them place a large tarp over their remains in order to avoid causing panic when the ship enters port. The guards begin rotating watch, each taking their turn at getting a little rest. The fog continues to be a challenge but lessens enough to allow some visibility. Soon, both ships set sail. The sea calms to the point that the voyage home is somewhat smooth with no further interruptions. After about three hours you catch sight of Sandpoint.

Darius gladly accepts the drink from Wayilant. He means to take a sip, but the sip turns to a gulp and then into chugging until the whole mug is drained. "Cheers, friend Wayilant. Much appreciated. Toast to the Drunken God of yours!" he says, raising the now-empty mug.
"The name is Darius Radulescu. A follower of no gods, and employee generalist of the various shadier businesses of Korvosa." he remembers changing names with some of the group earlier, but with all that has been going on he can't remember who with.

The warrior woman's reply leaves Darius wordless for a moment. That was a joke, right? Sarcasm.. But she doesn't look like she's joking. Does she even understand the concept of sarcasm?
"I trust you friend. You look like you could do this all day, every day. Unfortunately us city folks need our beauty sleeps..." he says with a yawn, and looks for a place to crawl for a nap.
He closes his eyes, and tries to catch some sleep. But there is a lot on his mind, and sleep doesn't come easy. Briefly napping and then waking up to the sounds of the ship. And this goes on until they start to have Sandpoint in sights.
He stretches and yawns, and joins others.
"Say... Would this Knights of the Flagon of yours be having any open positions? All things considered, I believe I might be... relieved of my duties for the foreseeable future, and looking for some interesting work. Interesting, and hopefully well-paying, that is."

Liotierri Magravi "Gravi" |

Liotierri slowly tends the wounded with the others, using his last two healing spells on anyone injured in the party or the crew.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
CLW2: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Well paying? I suppose sometimes it could be, but I'm pretty new with this group. But definitely high-risk! Mummies, slavers, high-wire acts, all in the last three days! But I'm for one nap right now... he sits, leaning back against a coil of rope, and dozing for the return journey.

The aasimar's body was so tired, Desna's dreams did not find him. Wayilant's consciousness was brought back the Waking World, to the sound of two varisians talking. Wayilant's eyes flicker as he slowly look up at Liotierri and the rescued Darius talking. The caydenite found his head resting on the still sleeping Talienda. Wayiiant's eyes widened in surprise to notice his arm had wrapped itself around the young lady's waist. The cleric takes a few moments to enjoy the predicament. Wayilant then coughs slightly and answers the two adventurers.
"Gentlemen. I'm certainly willing to entertain an addition to The Flagon Slayers. But only after Desna has properly wiped the cobwebs from out minds. When we will all have our wits returned to us.""Wouldn't you agree, Lady Talienda?" Wayilant asks the bard sorcerer, expecting a response.

Talienda Blackhorn |

"Mmrr--" Talienda's dragged back to the waking world, quite unwillingly, by Darius and Gravi talking, followed shortly by Wayilant shifting and coughing close to her ear. It takes her a moment to realize that she's being asked something.
"Master Wayilant, I would hope you do not think me so naive as to agree with you before knowing what it is I am agreeing to," she says quietly, though she doesn't open her eyes nor move her head from his shoulder. Echo stretches and yawns before settling back onto the young noblewoman's lap. She looks up at Wayilant, Gravi, and Darius with an indignant expression. They can almost hear the cat thinking, how dare you rubes disturb my sleep.
"I think you should apologize to Her Meow-jesty," Talienda tells them with a smile curling the corners of her mouth. "You've committed a most grave offense by waking her. Yes, I think-- *yawn* I think the only fitting punishment otherwise is to be smothered in one's sleep. Isn't that right, Echo?"
The cat yawns again before nodding and laying her head back on her paws.

Heavy-lidded, Wayilant looked up at Gravi and Darius, then indignantly back at Echo in Talienda's lap. "A thousand pardons, Lady Echo", the cleric said deadpan. The urge to let the aasimar's hand slip down to the semi-conscious noblewoman's thigh was strong, but Wayilant it pass.
"We'll talk more after we get some sleep in Sandpoint. Are we nearly there?"

Talienda Blackhorn |

Echo flicks her ears, acknowledging Wayilant's apology. It's difficult to read the cat's expression, but Talienda gives a tired chuckle.
"She forgives you, this time," Talienda says. Her eyes open and she lifts her head. "I hope we are close to Sandpoint. I know Alina must be worried sick," Talienda says.

Wayilant Arden |

Wayilant watches Talienda raise her head from his shoulder, with a stupid wide smile. "As I am worried for her and Julie", the aasimar answered.

Three hours of on and off sleep comes to an end when both the Goose and the Pelican make port. The two smaller sailing vessels both fit comfortable in the marinas forward docks, which allows for a quick disembark. Both captains' meet with the Flagon Slayers along the dock’s walkway while their crew begin securing heavy dock lines.
While glancing around the now busy morning walkway, Captain Henderson comes trouncing down the Pelican’s disembark walkway. “I have spoken with Hemlock's men. They intend to report back to him immediately. Both Captain Hamilton and I will follow up with a more detailed report within the hour. Your part in this escapade is highly appreciated and has more than earned you some rest. I will let the sheriff know about your involvement and will share my feelings with him about the slave ship. I suspect, when everything is wrapped up, the sheriff will want to speak with you directly. For now, though, get some sleep. Take the rest of today and tonight to rest. Report to the garrison sometime tomorrow morning. I will let the sheriff know you are resting and will speak to him tomorrow.”
Henderson is somewhat cut off towards the end of his thought by one of his crew. ‘Captain, what would you have us do with….” An uncomfortable pause occurs as the ship’s mate considers his next words carefully. “Our cargo.” The captain looks up to the mate and replies. “Leave it till night fall. We can deal with it then.”
The party has reached Level 4. Please take the time to advance your characters to level 4 before we press further. Any role play during this down time is more than welcome, especially with a potential new addition to the group, but isn’t required. I will take a small pause to allow for the process. This will reflect a full day and a night of rest, shopping, and time to recover. Because I don’t see any immediate threat for the next couple days, you are also welcome to reset any spell slots, ability recovery, ETC that would refresh during a full day's rest. Well done. An interesting encounter to say the least.

Wayilant Arden |

Tired, but awake enough for travel, Wayilant takes Darius by the shoulder; both as a human crutch and to guide him down Sandpoint streets he may not be familiar with.
Mr. Darius. Come with me. I'll find you a room at The Rusty Dragon to sleep in. It's a good place to lay your head, then wake up to fill it with ale."
Wayilant offers his other arm to Lady Talienda. "I hope Julie hasn't given Alina too much trouble. I guess I should make sure Julie fed before my bed hits that sweet, sweet pillow."

Talienda Blackhorn |

Talienda is more than grateful for both the opportunity to sleep and Wayilant's arm. Echo, without her usual perch in Talienda's arms, trots alongside the strange trio.
"Miss Julie's probably been asleep, Master Wayilant," she mumbles. "Besides, Echo and I have not managed to drive her batty in ten years. I doubt Miss Julie could manage it in ten hours." She smiles up at the Caydenite as the turn towards the Rusty Dragon. "Alina is a remarkable young woman, and I am lucky to have her as my friend and companion." The smile disappears and, perhaps because of how tired she is or perhaps because she does just care that much about Alina, she pokes Wayilant in the chest as she glares at him. "So don't you dare break her heart, Master Wayilant. I will see if I have my father's mean streak if you do. If I don't I'll just have to borrow Master Gravi's."

Wayilant Arden |

"I don't intend to", Wayilant answers. "To be honest, Alina is all I think about, especially when we were in danger. Well, Alina AND Julie."
The trio trudge down the street further. "Nothing has passed between Alina and I other than a heartfelt embrace."
"Yet, despite the horrible events you've experience, you felt safe enough to sleep on my shoulder. To rest next to me and find some peace.
I recognize that. And appreciate the trust you've put in me. I feel blessed."

Talienda Blackhorn |

"Yes, well..." Talienda looks away, but not before Wayilant can see her blush.

Alina Cailean |

Thankfully for Talienda, Alina and Julie come rushing out of the Rusty Dragon. Julie nearly takes out Wayilant's legs while Alina wraps him and Talienda in a tight embrace.
"I'm so glad you're both safe," she says. "When I heard that you'd been in a fight--" Her voice trails off as she hugs both of the adventurers tighter.
"Welcome home, Papa," Julie says into the silence. "Momma said you'd come back."
Alina's face flushes at being called Momma, but she doesn't correct Wayilant's newly adopted daughter.
"Alright, Julie," she says once she's regained some of her composure. "Papa's tired and I'm sure he's also hungry. He can't walk with you hanging onto his legs like that."
As Julie lets go, Alina takes Talienda and walks beside Wayilant while her free hand holds Julie's.
"And indeed, Master Wayilant. Welcome home. I see that there's a new face among the Flagon Slayers."

Wayilant Arden |

Wayilant closes his burning eyes as he holds Alina in his arms. "Gods-damn, it's good to see you", the aasimar whispered into Alina's ear.
The cleric looks mildly embarrassed at Julie referring to the handmaiden as 'Momma'.
"How have you two been?" Wayilant asks.
As Julie lets go, Alina takes Talienda and walks beside Wayilant while her free hand holds Julie's.
"And indeed, Master Wayilant. Welcome home. I see that there's a new face among the Flagon Slayers."
"Oh! Yes! Darius Radulescu, this is Alina Cailean, Talienda's handmaiden and major domo, and the little one is my adoptive daughter, and newest member of The Flagon Slayers, Julie Arden."

Bryndís Raelyosradinsdóttir |

Bryndís disembarks and walks back to get more rest silently and by herself. Her dreams troubled her. This is not the first time such a thing has happened; but it is rarer now than in the past. Regardless of frequency though, the particular subjects involved always leave her feeling tense and in a foul mood. She does not eat before sleeping.

Govrina Fireblood |

Govrina is silent on the way back. Dozing most of the way, she tries to maintain her discipline and meditate when she does wake enough to try. Once back on the dock , she pulls her large cloak back around her wings and horns, hiding her natural looks for the sake of everyone and avoiding more problems. Once back at the inn, she easily slips onto a bench and orders warm gruel by the largest fire. Trying anxiously not to look at the joyous reunions that are occurring in front of her, she contemplates her future going forward.
’Can I be a Flagon Slayer? Im not much of a drinker…’

Alina Cailean |

Outside the Dragon
"Better than you have been, it would seem," Alina answers Wayilant as she studies the Caydenite and the other Flagon Slayers.
When introduced, she gives the best curtsey she can to Darius while holding Julie's hand and helping keep Talienda upright.
"It is a pleasure to meet you, Master Darius," she says before looking down at Julie. "What do we say to people when we first meet them, Julie," she asks the young girl, obviously trying to get her to practice good manners.
Inside the Dragon
Alina, after a nudge from Talienda, helps her young lady over to where Govrina sits. She then leads Julie to the bar to order some breakfast for the two of them and Talienda.

Talienda Blackhorn |

Inside the Dragon
After Alina goes off to get some food, Talienda turns to Govrina.
"Are you feeling alright," she asks.

A blurry-eyed Wayilant, does his best to keep up with the masterful handmaiden and his precocious adoptive daughter.
"Alina! Julie! Wait up!" the cleric chuckles the laugh of the exhausted.
Wayilant Arden |

"Alina", Wayilant paused. "You don't have to...but thank you. I'm..gonna get a drink then head to bed. Eat when I get up."
The caydenite cleric asks for the largest ale The Rusty Dragon has and takes it to bed.
