DC 16 Will save: 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (6) + 5 - 1 = 10
Perhaps it's the will-sapping properties of the fog, but the elf calls out, "Come on!" and leaps through the misty curtain, blade ready to strike.
Belladonna of Desna

Will DC 16: 1d20 + 10 - 1 ⇒ (19) + 10 - 1 = 28
Bella continues to concentrate on keeping the watery creatures calm.
"What should we do now that we have them calmed?"
She strides across the room to the top of the steps where Tere leapt into the dark mist.
She turns to speak to her friends in the room.
"Make a run for it and hope the elementals don't follow?"

Tere dashes through the mists while the elementals are quiesced.
Belladonna stands at the top of the stairs, next to the boiling curtain.
Pau calmly joins her on the stairs.
N'ya readies to protect the party. Still has a will save vs the mist to make
Deluge crosses the floor to the mist Also has a will save to make
Two blades jumps into the mist following Tere.
No horrid sounds of screaming are heard from either of them.
[ooc]Want to get those will saves finished off, but it doesn't look like the elementals are seeing any need to leave their nice ponds at the moment.

"I am the first into battle, and the last to leave it."
Can we get a description of the next room? Or is the mist completely blocking vision? I want to press on into the next room, but I'm having a hard time turning Ny'a's back on a battle, even if it's a calmed one. If she doesn't have a new threat to approach, I think she's soaking these Will saves until everyone else is out of the room.
What am I? Ny'a shakes her head as she looks around. Were we... fighting? She raises the back of her gauntleted hand to her brow and gives it an ineffective wipe. The elementals! and she jerks back to attention, staring the eerily calm formations of water down with as much focus as she can muster.

The mist is blocking the vision through it. It is like a thick curtain. Who knows how deep?
That said, one of those already through could describe the area beyond as
small area with a large iron double door that has strange swirling symbols and glyphs wandering over its surface. There is the body of a dead ratfolk there too.
Party is up.

Assuming that info is passed along... it's not enough for Ny'a to leave. The party's officially on notice: get out of the room so Ny'a can retreat. She can't leave before you.

GM I notice that the next room is still completely covered on the map. Perhaps people don't feel comfortable moving into the "fog of war" if you will? Given that some PCs are in the next room, can we make sure the map is opened up for them? I'd hate for the reason that Ny'a keeps soaking these Will saves is nobody's comfortable advancing a token on the map.

Deluge is definitely heads through the curtain. I'm not afraid of a little curtain and Deluge is not afraid of any dead rats. Once through he casts an extended Barkskin on himself using his rod.

Bella motions with a wave of her arm to usher the rest quickly out of the room.
"Hurry, everyone! Let's go!"
She notices Ny'a hesitating to leave the area as the paladin glances anxiously at the creatures, then back to the dark curtain of mist.
"I can only concentrate on keeping those things calmed for just a little bit longer!"
She looks into Ny'a's eyes with sincerity.
"You and I will be the last ones out of here, Ny'a. Whenever you're ready, well go together."

I thought the calm emotions got rid of Tere's confusion. Right?
I'd think so; we should remain as immune to the confusion here as we were in the other room, so long as Bella is concentrating, up to the duration of the spell.

Fair point, lets not worry about the confusion.
Passing through the curtain results in moments of disorientation, however the calming influence of your own priestess allows you to overcome them.
On the far side of the curtain at the top of the stairs is a small area with a large iron double door. The door bears strange swirling symbols and a wandering, random pattern of glyphs across its surface.
Strewn on the floor next to the doors is the body of a dead ratfolk. It appears to have been bashed on the head with a hefty blunt object.
Deluge-Core

"Looks like the place might be trapped. Shall I send in the cavalry?"
He asks that hesitantly, preferring more mundane means of finding traps over conjuring a pseudo real pony for trap springing.
Ny'a
|
Ny'a knows that someone else should handle the traps--and she sure couldn't make sense of those traveling glyphs--so she leans down to quickly examine the body of the ratfolk. Given the confusion effect they've all been struggling with, Ny'a checks to see if the ratfolk was carrying a blunt weapon they might have injured themselves with.

No traps are found, although N'ya does find a wand stuck up the sleeve of the ratfolk. No weapons though.

Bella will just quick-time the last two rounds of calm emotions while the others do their thing on the other side of the curtain. I'm hoping the water creatures stay calm, but, I doubt it.
After Ny'a passes through the curtain of dark mist, Bella continues to keep the creatures calmed for a few more moments. Suddenly, the spell ceases to function. Lowering her hands, she gives the creatures a wry grin.
"You're not going to hurt me now, right?"
If the creatures lunge at her, Bella leaps through the curtain. If they remain calm, Bella remains on the side with the watery creatures and casts detect magic on the curtain.

Deluge thinks it has been there about a week since that particular rat-folk died. With you no longer in the room the elementals don't appear keen on following you through the mist.
Belladonna of Desna

@GM: please see my post above. Do the creatures remain calm after the spell ends? If so, Bella stays on the east side of the curtain and casts detect magic on it.
GM Aerondor

| 1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Are you remaining on the east side of the curtain? Sorry, I thought you were quick-timing it through the curtain.
If you stay on that side, you will find out what they do, but of course if it is moving to attack you, you might not like it.
Ny'a

I hate to play it this way, but if this is Bella's action, then Ny'a is still in the room with her. In my post, I stated that Ny'a was following Bella out of the elemental room, and I have to stand by that. I could see stepping through simultaneously, but you're talking about Bella staying behind for two more rounds. I don't believe a Paladin's Code, as listed in their deity entry, is negotiable. They don't have to be played 'lawful stupid,' but Ny'a can't leave before Bella; it's a very explicit requirement for Iomedae's paladins. It would be extreme, but our GM would be within their rights to strip Ny'a's paladin abilities if she did that.
If someone has an argument that you believe allows Ny'a to leave the elemental combat before another PC, please let me know; I'd love to be swayed, because these Will saves are hurting.
_____Retcon?_____
As Bella continues to linger in the room with the elementals, Ny'a grows increasingly agitated. "I thought we were leaving. What are we waiting for?!? We have to go!"
Belladonna of Desna
|
The spell ceases and Bella turns to Ny'a.
"I thought we were leaving. What are we waiting for?!? We have to go!"
"I'm afraid to go through it!"
Steeling herself, she closes her eyes tight, grasps onto Ny'a's hand, and leaps through, hoping nothing bad happens to her.
GM Aerondor
|
So to be clear, you wait until the spell expires and *then* go through the curtain after the elementals are no longer calm? Or you head through just *before* the spell expires?
Deluge-Core
|
After would be suicidal. For all of us.
Belladonna of Desna
|
Bella will hop through just before spell expires.
@Everyone: I think we should finish off those elementals. We're going to have to pass through here to get out. I would hate to fight these things again and they could possibly be at full strength when we come back through later.
