Aroden Reincarnated
|
"Mun, might you like to have the use of this wand?
I think before the rat demons we have the room with the trapped chest and trapped dais.
One trap affects the mind, and the other is likely a blast of energy of some sort.
We do not seem to have anybody capable of handling traps. I can try to Dispel one of the traps from well outside the room, if another soul can be brave enough to endure the other. I think a Dispel will only temporarily shut down the trap for a few moments, so whoever it is must be quick."
I see that Master Poh lacks Evasion, but has an excellent Will save. I would suggest that I target the Evocation effect, if Poh is willing to take a chance against the Enchantment (Compulsion) effect. What do you think? Anybody have a better plan?
Mun of Ashava
|
Khugron started to unwind from his rage as the last ooze fell. Looking over his poncho he frowned. "Anyone have spell to clean me up?" he asked.
Mun chuckles. "Why yes; actually, I do!" He retrieves a wand and casts prestidigitation from it. He cleans the dirt and grime from Khugron, then gives both himself and Selune the same treatment.
Mun is vain (covetous curse), so he did in fact purchase a wand of prestidigitation and select that as his 1st level Ancient Lorekeeper spell so that he could use the wand without failure, haha."Anybody else? Let me know; the spell will last an hour."
"Mun, might you like to have the use of this wand?"
I see that Master Poh lacks Evasion, but has an excellent Will save. I would suggest that I target the Evocation effect, if Poh is willing to take a chance against the Enchantment (Compulsion) effect. What do you think? Anybody have a better plan?
"Yes, I think that's a good idea, if Poh is up for the risk." Mun takes the wand of searing light and stows it with his other wands in his handy haversack for future use. Is the wand full? If not, how many charges are left?

Scenario does not indicate charges, so we can assume it is a full wand. Also thank you for the botting instructions. Have a good trip!
Vrothum
|
Vrothum thanks Mun and puts the wands back in his haversack. You think same strategy as before? Hopefully these rats don't affect my mind like those oozes did, that was a very unpleasant feeling.
Pig the Runt
|
"Wizard dispel mind trap," Pig suggests, proudly boasting, "Pig endure any fire!"
| Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Let me know when you're ready to move into the next room and arrange yourselves on the Map on SLIDE 5. If you're planning to deal with the trap, lay out your steps and what you're going to do, please.
Revered Master Poh
|
"I leave it to you to decide which spell to attempt removal of. The scroll of Magic Shircle that I provided will protect against many mental attacks, and is a long-lasting defence."
Either Dispel the enchantment, and send Pig or another volunteer to trigger the boom (although not all Evocations are booms :o ), or Dispel the evocation, and Poh will brave the enchantment with a Magic Circle vs Evil cast on him.
Mun also has Dispel, so it's worth trying for both.
Aroden Reincarnated
|
"If the chest is locked, then Dispel will not last long enough to get it open carefully. We will need great strength to break it open quickly. So Pig should go and use his crowbar."
"I will attempt to Dispel the enchantment spell."
"Mun can try to Dispel the evocation spell at the same time. Pig can race in, pry the lid open, and grab whatever is inside."
I see that Pig has a crowbar. This would seem less likely to damage anything inside the chest, compared to smashing it open with Khugron's adamantine bec de corbin.
"If Pig cannot get it open fast enough, and the mind-spell affects him, then Mun can try to Dispel its effect."
My assumption is that spells from traps typically do not count as originating from a evil source, and so the protections of Magic Circle may not apply. Pig has a +7 vs mind-affecting effects which is not bad.
Aroden is as far as he can be given the map (looks like 35' from the chest).
He prepares to cast Dispel Magic once everyone is ready, calling upon both his Prescience and his arcane reservoir point.
Prescience 1 of 4: 1d20 ⇒ 8 Not using that.
Dispel, Reservoir Point (4 left after this): 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 10 + 2 = 29
"I think I have it! Go!"
We are botting Mun? Should I roll for him?
Pig the Runt
|
Pig grins and pulls out his crowbar. Once he is given the instruction to proceed, he runs in and tries to force the chest open.
Force Open, Crowbar: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 5 + 2 = 20
Note: I have a boon consumable re-roll vs. Reflex saves that adds half his level (so +3) to the save, which I will use for a particularly horrible looking trap Reflex saving throw. Also, if it is just damage, he's not unconscious at negative HP. And if it is damage and manages to do 86+ points of damage in one shot, will use Armored Sacrifice and not take that damage.
Khugron
|
Khugron stepped into the room, ready to crack open the chest if needed.
If that does not open the chest. Use Martial Flexibility to gain Improved sunder. Not raging.
Improved sunder: 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 13 + 2 = 182d8 + 19 ⇒ (5, 5) + 19 = 29
Might have to try again. :(
| Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Final verification: you are on the map where your character is. Placement matters. A couple people are inside cave walls, which is... problematic for so many reasons. Place yourselves on the map, then we can proceed.
Mun of Ashava
|
I'm back; I moved both Mun and Selune onto the map. Selune will stay where she is with a Handle Animal (guard) command; Mun can't fail the roll (a "1" on the die still succeeds).
Pig the Runt
|
I adjusted the slime map to include only people who are on the slime map. I don't think people should be forced into the trap room just because the action has moved there unless they intended to be in that room. That largely defeats the point of sending Pig in solo. Khurgon is probably technically still on the slime map until after Pig tries to pry open the chest. Though if he's going to sunder the chest if Pig fails to pop the lid, my preference would be for Pig to leave back to the slime room before he does that.

I removed myself and Poh because the plan was for only Pig to be in the room after Aroden dispels the 1st trap. Mun and Selune you might want to remove yourself as well. It should be Aroden in hallway, Khugron preparing to go in if Pig fails, and everyone else in slime room.
Mun of Ashava
|
Fair point. Dispel magic is medium range and can be done from Mun's position in the slime room, if needed. Moved tokens back to the slime room.
Revered Master Poh

"Stand well back, shtudents!"
Nobody needs to be in the trap room until after the Dispels have been tried. We can verify their success or failure with Detect Magic. Does Aroden still have Arcane Sight running?

No, he does not, and we can't wait the 3 rounds to verify with Detect Magic - I think that for traps, it only shuts them down for 1d4 rounds, like for a magic item.

Initiative- Round 1:
Aroden: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20
Khugron: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Vrothum: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Poh: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Pig: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Mun: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Selune: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Order: Mun, Vrothum, Aroden, Khugron, Pig, Selune, Poh
If you want to re-arrange Initiative, post the new initiative order, please. For example, who is casting first? Second? Is Pig entering the room before or after the dispel spells goes off? Where does he start from? This is a complicated trap situation so I need to know who's where and when. (At a table this is a lot simpler; PbP makes it a bit more fiddly.)

Aroden Dispels
Mun Dispels
Assuming no manifestation that would change our actions...
Pig moves to chest, force open
If Pig intact and chest open, the rest can do whatever.
If Pig intact and chest stuck, everyone delays. Pig leaves, Khugron enters and Sunders.
If Pig dead and chest stuck, probably Khugron enters and Sunders.
Mun of Ashava

Aroden botted Mun's dispel check here. As far as initiative order, I'd say that Pig should start in the room, and do initiative in this order: Aroden/Mun (doesn't matter who is first, I don't think) followed by Pig acting immediately after. Khugron next to pick up the pieces from a Pig failure? Edit: ninja'd, but I don't think there's any reason Pig can't start in the room, though it's probably splitting hairs as far as that move action goes.
Also, while we stated above that Aroden was targeting the enchantment and Mun the evocation, I don't think we can actually do that without knowing the specific spells in play. I think what will happen is the first person to cast dispel magic will dispel the highest level effect that their roll allows, and the second will then dispel the remaining effect if their roll is good enough. As long as one of the two rolls is good enough to dispel the highest level effect, and the other roll is better than the lower level effect, we should be good.
Dispel check: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
| Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Order: Aroden, Mun, Pig, Khugron, Vrothum, Selune, Poh
Aroden casts his dispel magic! Mun casts his! Pig waits a moment, then seeing no sudden manifestations, moves into the room. He tries to force open the chest! The strains but does not give and Pig triggers the trap!
Pig Reflex: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28 He agilely dodges aside, taking half of 4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 1, 5) = 14 acid damage!
Khugron is just outside the radius of the acid burst and smashes into the chest, cracking it open with a loud crash to reveal a small black velvet back, a metal rod and a dagger that drips with green liquid!
Vrothum, Selune, Poh? Any actions this round?
Pig the Runt
|
"Ah! Chest unusually strong!" Pig complains. "Ah! Chest spits acid!" He notes as he ducks.
Vrothum
|
Well, did it work? Do we need to come get anyone? I guess I'll prepare to run in if someone calls for me.
Mun of Ashava
|
No action from Selune this first round; she maintains her readiness to defend Mun should some danger reveal itself.
Pig the Runt
|
Pig picks up the rod and brings it to Aroden. "Pig find stick for Wizard."
Mun of Ashava
|
Mun seems happy with the outcome of their plan, but the hair on the back of his neck won't lay down, so he keeps his attention focused as he studies the rod that Pig brought back.
Standard: cast detect magic and study in the direction of the bag, rod, and dagger
Pig, did you only bring back the rod, or the bag and dagger too?
| Our Mysterious Benefactor |
The rod and dagger glow magically. The bag doesn't but something inside it is glowing with a strong aura.
Revered Master Poh
|
"Eh. Good Pig. But I think perhaps the demon rats might have heard the big feller smash the chest up."
Three rat-like fiendish humanoids and six dire rats just to the south of us - expect them to be preparing already.
"You want to look at your toys, or go catch the rats now?"
Placed Poh behind Khugron. Total defence.
Mun of Ashava
|
"Seems everything in there was magic... or close enough. I'll need a moment or two to focus to learn more." He continues his thoughts after Poh's question. "Well, if the rats stay where they are, these things might be useful to us against them. Keep an eye out."
Mun's next two rounds will be spent continuing to focus on detect magic, unless something happens to make him choose differently--like those rats.
Vrothum
|
So I'm not seeing any creatures on the map, so I guess Vrothum will just scoot close to Aroden and watch his back. Ready to attack a creature if it gets too close.
Pig the Runt
|
Since we were in rounds, I just collected one item.
| Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Poh, your gem is not currently glowing. You have retrieved the rod.
The dagger and bag still remain in the wreckage of the chest.
Revered Master Poh
|
"It's the rat-men that worry me. If they have magic, or alchemy, every moment we delay may make their position stronger."
They're not on the map of the room with the chest, but they're only just to the south of that room.

Sorry, weekend proved distracting. Got online, got completely distracted and forgot to post. Apologies!
There is a sudden soft POP in front of Khugron and suddenly a swarm of rats appears! The boil over Khugron, biting and clawing at him! Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1 and I need 2 Fortitude saves: 1 vs Distraction and 1 vs Disease!
At the same moment, a cloud of fog spills forth from the center of the room, filling the ruined chest room with a noxious greasy cloud! As Fog cloud: A bank of fog billows out from the point you designate. The fog obscures all sight, including darkvision, beyond 5 feet. A creature within 5 feet has concealment (attacks have a 20% miss chance). Creatures farther away have total concealment (50% miss chance, and the attacker can’t use sight to locate the target).
At the start of your round, if you are in the cloud, you must make a FORTITUDE SAVE VS DISEASE. EVERY ROUND. This round it looks like the lucky PCs are Poh and Khugron.
Round 3 Order: Aroden, Mun, Pig, Khugron, Vrothum, Selune, Poh, Swarm!
Heroes are up!
Khugron
|
Fort 1: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19
Fort 2: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29
"Get off me or you going to be snack!" Khugron roared as he started to swat and stomp on the rats.
Flurry of boots and <20% miss: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 181d8 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 81d100 ⇒ 48
Flurry of boots and miss: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 301d8 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 81d100 ⇒ 59
crit?: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 171d8 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Flurry of boots and miss: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 181d8 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 121d100 ⇒ 59
Aroden Reincarnated
|
Aroden draws and reads another scroll of Haste.
This is his second casting; Pig gave him a scroll of two castings (from 2 PP) and Mun gave him 4 scrolls (from gold).
Unfortunately, he cannot see Khugron to target him, but should be able to see Poh since Poh is at the edge of the fog cloud. Since the scroll can hit 5 targets, Aroden will choose himself, Poh, Pig, Vrothum, and Selune.
Revered Master Poh
|
"Go forwards or backwarsh! Which is it, shtudents?!"
Posted in Discussion - think we should probably try to coordinate.
Vrothum
|
Push onwards I say, Mun can you dispel this fog?
| Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Round 3:
Aroden hastes everyone save Khugron, who is lost in the fog!
Mun?
Pig?
Khugron makes another disease save versus the fog, as he must whenever he begins in the fog! Fort vs Disease: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22 He stomps at the swarm! He stomps and stomps, but the swarm, unable to be critted, persists!
Vrothum?
Selune?
Poh? Don't forget your disease Fort save!
Pig the Runt
|
Fortitude: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15
"Pig going forward!" Pig rushes into the fog, drawing his well-worn, cold iron axe as he presses through to the other side.
EDIT: With the haste, I can get there in a single move action. So I have a standard or move left to make if there's something on the other side of the fog to respond to.
Vrothum
|
Vrothum will move along with Aroden, he's essentially body guarding the caster. So his previous turn he does nothing and on Aroden's next turn he will move and defend him from possible threats.
Mun of Ashava
|
Mun stops concentrating on the rod, instead focusing on the threat at hand with another dispel, this time targeting the seemingly poisonous cloud that just appeared!
Standard: cast dispel magic vs fog cloud effect
Caster level, dispel magic: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Selune remains with Mun with her default defend trick; can we align Selune and Mun in the initiative tracker with a retroactive delay from Selune in a prior round so that she's immediately after Mun? Probably not critical, but it's a thing they like to do, and had opportunity to do, even though I didn't think of it at the time.
Revered Master Poh
|
Fort vs disease: 1d20 + 14 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 14 + 5 = 24
"Onwardsh! Hit them in the headsh!"
Poh staggers past Khurgron and the rats to protect Pig.
Plenty of move to get there under Haste. I have put Poh on the map to the side, and copied Pig's token too.
Starts advice (Inspire Courage +2), one move action, and a swift to enter Marid Style
Bodyguard 1: 1d20 + 11 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 11 + 2 + 2 = 19
Bodyguard 2: 1d20 + 11 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 11 + 2 + 2 = 17
Bodyguard 3: 1d20 + 11 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 11 + 2 + 2 = 25
Bodyguard 4: 1d20 + 11 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 11 + 2 + 2 = 24
On anything but a natural 1, the ally gains +4AC vs the attack.
Khugron
|
Flurry of boots, PA, FF and <20% miss: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 10 + 2 = 231d8 + 6 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 2 + 4 = 131d100 ⇒ 31
Flurry of boots, PA and <20% miss: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 241d8 + 6 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 2 + 4 = 131d100 ⇒ 37
Flurry of boots, PA and <20% miss: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 181d8 + 6 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 2 + 4 = 151d100 ⇒ 52
Khugron continued to stomp on the rats as the fog cloud did not seem to bother him as much.
| Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Round 3:
Aroden hastes everyone save Khugron, who is lost in the fog!
Mun casts dispel on the cloud, which does not vanish! Selune sticks with her master! The cloud effect is a supernatural (SU) ability, which is not dispellable.
Pig plunges into the cloud! He feels his skin itch and crawl as something feels like it's worming its way into his system!
Khugron makes another disease save versus the fog, as he must whenever he begins in the fog! Fort vs Disease: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22 He stomps at the swarm! He stomps and stomps, but the swarm, unable to be critted, persists!
Vrothum guards the reincarnated god.
Poh plunges into the cloud and enters the disgusting room, where heaps of garbage and filth are piled! Perception: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (14) + 16 = 30 He doesn't immediately see any rats, but he does spot the two demons lurking on either side of the door! They both attack!
Purple Bite vs Poh!: 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 13 + 2 = 34 for 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 damage! Plus I need a Fort Save vs Disease, with a -2 penalty!
Yellow Bite vs Poh!: 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 13 + 2 = 26 for 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 damage! Plus I need a Fort Save vs Disease, with a -2 penalty!
Purple Bite vs Poh!, possible crit: 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 13 + 2 = 20 for 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11 additional damage!
Hearing their masters' cries of battle, 3 dire rats surge forth from the filth piles!
ROUND 4: Heroes are up first! Anyone in the fog cloud must make a Fort Save EVERY SINGLE ROUND they are in it, no matter if they succeeded or not. EVERY SINGLE ROUND.
