Navarre "Two-Fingers"
Nodding to Talia and Jak as they step inside, Navarre raises an eyebrow as Lazar 'welcomes' them. Hearing what sounds like an odd chuckle, he quickly looks to the left and to the right, gripping the 'borrowed' shortsword even tighter.
"This place gives me the creeps, we came through the hall upstairs." Nodding towards the torch Garl was holding. "Found a really odd mirror and that torch." Gesturing towards the body, "When we got down here, found him."
Moving forward, he shuts the exterior door, pointing the shortsword towards the doors they passed on the way to the 'exit' "Shall we continue looking for the owner of this place? Or at least the book he wrote us about?"
Talia Ze'atsev
Talia looks at the orb fully understanding what she was seeing but not necessarily fully understanding what magic it used. Magic items were rare, even magic items as minor as this light orb and as such were highly prized. She looks to the one holding the light orb and says, "You hold a major wealth in your hands, becareful with it." She then looks to Navarre, "What do you mean by a strange mirror?" She had become quite intrigued by that statement especially since Navarre did not seem at all impressed by the light orb.
OCC: How much light does the light orb produce? In DnD terms 20ft radius bright light plus 20ft radius dim light (aka normal torch) or is it more than that?
Ceirn
"I think we should keep looking for others. There might be someone we can actually aid still." Ceirn says.
Lazar Tehran
"Yes the book! I almost forgot because.." He pauses and gestures to the dead guy.
"Come let us look for the book" He says as he begins to look about.

Looking at the light source, and then back to Jak. "We've seen at least 2 things so far that aren't books which might be highly prized. Don't confuse The Book as being the only thing here that someone might want."

Navarre "Two-Fingers"
Shrugging at Talia's question, he answered, "I mean its a mirror that didn't seem normal." He nods towards Lazar, "The others were inspecting it more carefully than I. I had moved down the hallway in an attempt to get to the entrance faster." He shrugged, "Though it didn't help, you two seem to be no worse for wear."
Nodding in agreement with the Ceirn, Garl and Lazar he answers Jak, holding out the shortsword as evidence. "Yes, we believe based on the gear he carried and his proximity to the door, that he was a would-be thief. But we haven't really looked for the library yet." Turning he gestures at the doors they'd passed on the way to the main etrance. "Id assume it's one of these rooms off of this hallway."

ive updated the battle map slides. i have the layout of the entire mini-fortress/publishers house set up. The scale is a bit rough on the drawing. Dont worry so much about the exact location where your character is, just get them to "pretty close".
@talia.... not magic items. Ter'angreal. an angreal helps a channeler increase their ability to channel the One power, so long as the angreal is tuned to saidar or saidan. a sa'angreal allows a channeler to channel more power beyond that of an angreal. basically, think of a scale between 1-10. an angreal covers 1-4, a sa'angreal goes from 5-10. but the higher the number, the more rare the sa'angreal will be. the most powerful sa'angreal are the choden kal, at a +10. Callandor is rated at +8. Now, a ter'angeal isnt something that specifically helps a channeler channel, but is capable of producing channeling effects dependent upon triggers. Someone channelling near said item could trigger it. a person with red hair could trigger a ter'angreal. Saying a trigger phrase, etc.
with that said....let's game!!!
@lazar and Garl: im going to have you guys save those rolls until your in a room to perform a search upon. to be honest, it'd be a little bit of a waste here.
since i have properly posted a good map of the building, feel free to move your characters about and i shall describe better what you see.
Navarre "Two-Fingers"
Moving toward the nearest door, which was now on his left-hand side, Navarre turned back towards Talia, considering her request. He sighed as he looks from the Aes Sedai to the dead man then to the door he'd moved to. Blood and bloody ashes, of course she wanted to go look at the first thing she thought might be interesting. She was Aes Sedai, used to getting her own way and people doing what she said because they were afraid of the 'one power.'
Realizing he'd probably pay for his 'insolence' later, he gestures the general direction of the dead man. "Somebody or something killed him. Don't you think we should stick together until we figure out what's going on here or figure out whoever killed him or find this fellow Jair that we're supposed to get the book from?" Sighing again, shaking his head he points back towards the way they came. "If you can't wait, it's down the hall and up the stairs. But I don't understand the hurry, it's not like the bloody thing is going anywhere."
Turning his attention back to the door, he quickly inspects it, before attempting to open in.
if he believes the door is clear he will open it.

i know ceirn should be back by now, but i havent seen him post, so i will post for him for today.
As soon as jak sneaks into the house and the door is closed, you catch his face turn green and him start to gag.
ceirn bows to talia. I can lead you to the odd mirror. he bows again. The aiel looks at Navarre, and nods. Agreed. but, i feel confident that this man is the only fatality within these walls. Otherwise, we would have already Danced. Nothing else said, he turns and leads Talia to the back.
[spoiler=navarre] You grasp the large brass door knob and twist gently. It rotates easily and without noise in your hand, allowing the door to pivot open on silent hinges. The room itself is dark, but the heavy smell of aged must, of burnt wood, the smell of dankness wafts over your face.
Ceirn
Ceirn will follow after Navarre and look around for anyone that might be lurking in the area or anything that might have been hidden.

I am a bit confused as well. Ceirn is following the group and watching for danger.

Hey!!! many many apologies to everyone. My truck, last thursday, decided to not start in downtown milwaukee. And since it was downtown, the one thing the city doesnt have down there is auto parts stores in the immediate vicinity. So, i had to spend $800 getting my truck towed home. Spent all day friday fixing my truck, and then this weekend i just didnt want to do anything at all. so, yeah. wooo...
@ceirn: i had initially had you offer to lead talia upstairs. howerever, i can allow you to stay down stairs, since thats what you posted.
If talia wishes to head up the stairs, she can. or she can stand in the hall, tapping her foot impatiently...
Lazar Tehran
"Libraries are wonderful places, full of stories, librums, Histories, and even treatises! Wells of information and ideas!" Lazar says as he looks at the books.
"Also the object we are looking for is a book and what better place to hide a book, than a Library!" Lazar says with a chuckle as he continues to peruse the Library for the book.
Navarre "Two-Fingers"
Watching his two companions move deeper into the room, Navarre turns longingly, looking towards the door across the hall. Breathing a sigh, "True enough, but the fellow who is supposed to show it to us may be laying wounded in one of these rooms. We may want to see if he, or anyone else, is about, before we start opening every book in the building."
Ceirn
"I think we should search and make sure there is no one else. It would also be good to ensure no one will attack us while we are reading through the library." Ceirn says in agreement.
Garl Bowyer
1 person marked this as a favorite.
Mumbling to himself about being the lantern bearer, the easiest target, in a house of horrors, Garl moves with the others, doing his best to make sure they can see. Whether he wants to think about it in detail again or not, he's already accepted that his bow is the least useful weapon in the group inside this house, and he's avoiding breaking the peacebonds on his others unless he really needs to.
Lazar Tehran
Lazar sighs and follows."If we must come back here and scour the library to find it, I shall tell you I told you so!" The rogue says as he looks ahead and sighs.
"Let me guess its' locked?" Lazar steps forward and brings forth his chef's knife kit. He begins to unfold it and slips out a few different small picks and leans down to study the lock.
Taking a few moments, he then looks about the frame, searching for any unnecessary surprises.
Preception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
Ceirn
Ceirn lets the others move on and follows along behind as this place seemed like the type where a foe would come from behind to strike the unwary.
Talia Ze'atsev
It quickly became apparent that the unusual mirror, which most likely some kind of Sa’angreal or maybe the even rarer Ter’angreal and was something she was anxious to find out about, would need to be waited for. Basically because in this place she was rather vulnerable and it is at times like these where one such as she could really use a dedicated Warder. As it was she would just stay close to the others and help with any information they might need as that is about all she had to offer.
The library quickly perks her interest as well, but she says nothing as the comment about someone lying somewhere dying was a good reason to keep checking. It was too bad she could not use her magic here or she would create some more lights. Which would allow them to do multiple things at once rather than only one thing due to only having one light.
OCC:Although if asked she would be okay with carrying the light source.

Lazar easily picks the lock and the door pops open.
lazar, to go a little faster, feel free to make 2 more perception rolls for traps, and two more for picking locks.
The door opens to reveal not a room beyond, but a short hallway that turns to an immediate left. a single step down the narrow hall reveals that it turns to the right and another, equally large and imposing door stands closed to forward progress. you cannot help but think to yourself whatever is beyond this door must be important
Ceirn
Ceirn remains near the back of the party and waits for Lazar to finish before they can all move on to whatever lies behind the locked doors.

Im declaring jak as away from the group. it's been just over 3 weeks since his last post. So i shall do a couple final posts for his character, but then afterwards, he will be phased from the game.
Jak crouches down, his nose flaring, his breath huffing deep inhales and loud exhales. he shifts from head to toe on the man, breathing deep.
There is a stench to this guy....but it's not like it's the guy... he says to no one in particular. Jak moves back up to the man's head again, and then snorts, shaking his head as if attempting to clear a failed sneeze.
Yeah, it seems to be coming from up here. near the guys head... Hey talia...this pointy ball thingy... what is it? think it could be one of those tangeriene things?
in the narrow hall
The second door, while large and imposing, doesnt seem to have had the same stout lock installed into it's thick frame. the lock easily clicks loudly, and the door swings open silently. Beyond this door, another narrow hall stands that doglegs to the right. Another door stands closed. Where the first two doors were made of wood with ironwrought hinges, this door looks as if it was made of iron first and wood second. Thick steel bands stand proudly, oiled to a dull sheen, the patina black yet warm. The wood is fitted between the bands, thick rivets holding wood to metal, equally polished to a warm luster. The second door was something of a quick addition, but this door here was designed as a final step, a last deterrence to prevent those that would seek to enter, entry. The lock itself, set into the center, is a simple keyhole, yet the metal box that protects the interior gears and pins is displayed in stark contrast to the the rest of the door. Bright, shiny, no metal dulled with a patina, the surface has been ground to a bright finish. Observing the keyhole, Lazar whistles slightly, impressed at the thickness of the metal used to protect the locking mechanism.
The man bends slightly, and concentrates, yet, he no more than slips his probe into the hole and a loud clank thunders from inside the room.
Yet, the door remains shut...
going to need a strength check to open this door. DC 20

"Whelp, looks like my skill has failed," He looks back at the stronger members of the group and gestures for them to step up to the door."When a delicate touch fails, brute force will be needed, and as I am more finesse then force, you gentlemen are up"
