GM_DBH's Curse Of The Crimson Throne

Game Master DBH

The city of Korvosa has dark and deadly secrets. Those secrets are coming home to roost as some unlikely heroes are drawn into the underbelly in search of answers to their pasts.

Plague has come to Korvosa, and while the new queen and her advisors bicker over how to address the calamity, fear takes hold on the streets.
As the number of sick folk grows, people take desperate measures to avoid the plague, shutting themselves within their homes, shunning the infected, and even seeking escape from the city.
The disease is prevalent in Korvosa’s most impoverished areas, particularly Old Korvosa—blister-faced beggars and hacking common folk are visible on every corner.

@Iorghil. A Petromin is fine, there are several areas in Varisia that are desert, one close to Korvosa in fact.

Easy to see them being traded as Familiars.

I'm going to need at least a day to complete my level-up myself. I copied another character's profile over so that I could convert Ghil's profile to my preferred organization format, but forgot to include the HeroLab statblock output too, so I don't have a complete record of Ghil's stats online. It's all in HeroLab; nothing's lost, but I don't have access to any of that info away from home.

Update: My Mother was thought to have had a stroke on Tuesday. After some stressful waiting around and a scan it turned out to be a TIA.

Still not good but she only has a bruise this time. She is back at home but can't drive for a month and will need to take it easy.

We're working out things at the moment so I'm calling this week off for updates. Once we've worked out what we're doing over the weekend things will hopefully return to normal.

My Mother seems to have fully recovered. With the knowledge that the TIA is a warning sign.

She said after a couple of days feeling awful she's back to normal and feeling much more active.

Still can't drive for a month so we are covering her for that.

Mum was a Nurse for 50 years. She knows to follow the Doctors instructions. Never smoked, doesn't drink much, tries to exercise as much as she can. But she's 83.

Sorry, no update tonight. My washing machine died on the weekend and I've been racing around finding a new one. Plus there were adventures in plumbing discovered when the new machine was installed. So its been a hectic day.

It wasn't. Turns out the cold water tap the washing machine had been connected to for years had lost the ability to be shut off.

So Plumbers were called desperately. Luckily I got one within a couple of hours and he fixed things and my clothing is now being washed!

So I have an idea to identify ourselves to the city guard as the adventurer's the Queen is looking for, and explain that we have an important thing to do here before we go to the castle to announce ourselves.

At the same time, I'd use charm person on the guard to get them to station at the back door and arrest anyone who tries to leave, and then escort us to the Queen.

It occurs to me that using charm magic on a guard, though, could be... well, criminal. Maybe not the greatest idea after all. But maybe there's still something to the idea--maybe it's not a guard that we station there, but a street thug instead? I just want to make sure the person would be competent, cause it sounds like it's not exactly a short dash around the building to get there, so whoever we put on the back door has to be capable of subduing at least an individual--maybe more than that--who tries to leave.

I feel like using mind-controlling magic on a member of the city watch is likely to cause more trouble than it's worth, but charming/bribing someone might work.

I don't mind being the person stationed out the back - I can trip people relatively competently with my whip and I'm moderately resilient in case they try to fight back. Or maybe we split up (I know, I know!) and three go in the front while two come in the back?

If we do split up (I know, I know), Ghil could be Nethen's partner coming in the back, with an eye towards making our two a party of three with a charm person on the first of our man's crew that we see.
