Tessai:
Nothing detects as magical.

The combination of Tessai and Ting find that one of the bookshelves in the north wall is cleverly built to swing out from the wall, revealing a staircase that descends into the dark.

Wyran follows Ting. Seeing the luxurious room he nods. "Very pious I see.... We can search this for valuables later. Unless the place collapses and we have to beat feet out!"

Seeing the staircase he summons a human shaped form of light and sends it down the stairs, at a human climbing pace. Dancing Lights

Chuckling lightly, in a noise that sounds very similar to a crows caw, at Wyran's jest about piety Ting watches as the shaman creates a light-man and sends it down the hallway. Scratching his head he asks, "Is we's 'eaded down 'ease stairs er tha ones 'Lucky's' Guardin'?" He looks to Tessai, "I's dont' t'ink we's should bloody well split up, wroight?"

@Wyran: The stairs spiral down for some distance.

"Agreed - we have more pressing matters to attend to"

"Yes Ting. Let's meet with Lothorian and the others, then investigate the stairs he has been watching" - Tessai agreed - "As for the room, I guess sometimes so called 'high priests' will confuse higher wisdom with higher luxury" - she adds with a look around, then goes with his companions to meet the others.

Wtran shrugs at the others words. "We'll not split the team. I just wanted to see if there was a reaction from light heading down." He closes the door and follows Tessai.

You hear nothing but silence and see nothing but darkness down either stairwell.

Nodding in agreement with Tessai, ting moves back through the dinning area to the stairs where the vigilant 'Lefty' awaited. Drawing his ioun torch out of his pouch he set it spinning about his conical sedge-grass hat. Gesturing at the stairs, "So's we's all goin' er do's ya want's'ta scout's it out's?"

Malinor and Garados have not posted in a long while - I was kinda making time for them to join up with the rest of the group.

"If you think it safe to risk scouting, it would be useful to be forewarned about whatever may be down there" - Tessai replied.

Scouting can be unforgiving... I will leave it up to you guys if you want to do it or not ;)

Dark Archive

Weird, I did a post about staying together and it seems to have been eaten.

"I think we should all go down the stairs together. Once we get down there we can consider scouting. But some of us likely need light which will make it easy to see in the dark." Malinor says.

As you wish.

Lefty casts Dancing Lights again, sending it down ahead.

The dancing lights form into a vaguely human shape. He then casts Message, including the entire party in it. They can hear him when he whispers (60 minutes). Lothorian then casts Invisibility (6 minutes) on himself, and follows it down the stairs.

Lefty:
Lefty and his dancing light descend a fair distance down the stairs.

The staircase is steep and you quickly realize that this is deeper underground than a simple basement for the church.

At the bottom of the stairs you pause and see a T-junction with passages leading north and south.

To the north it seems dark, but flickering dim light comes from the south.

Tessai keeps watch over the lights - once/if they move out of sight, she follows Lothorian.

I will need one of you strappy, perceptive lads with me :D

Seeing Tessai head down the stairs, ting perks up, "Oy, wait's fer me, wroight." Sheathing the voidglass blade in his quiver he draws a finely crafted recurve bow, he lulls his tongue in a tengu smile, "So's I can cover 'Lefty'." He then begins moving carefully down the steps with Tessai, keeping a keen eye out.

Malinor will take the rear position and follow after his allies.

GM, about how long would it take the party to bust down to the bottom if Lefty calls them?

Is that you, Ting? Good. I'm at a T. This is a deeper stair than it looked from the top. There is some light from the south. I'll need some cover before I pop a light either way, Lothorian whispers through the spell. Everyone can hear him.

The rest of you come close after we check, quiet ones first. Bring a light.

The elf listens for sounds to either side, but won't poke his head out until Ting Ting is right behind him.

Then he looks, too, casting the light north.
south: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16

'A voice in my head??? Oh, it's 'Lefty' using magic.' Nodding his beak as if 'Lefty' could see him, ting answers back in a caw like whisper. "We's is on our ways an' I's has a loight." Quickly moving down the steps, assuming the more subtle folks would move forward.

Garados hangs back, ready to commit mayhem, but knowing he's not particularly stealthy.

Sorry for being gone this weekend.

@Lefty: call it two rounds to get down to the bottom where you are.

Wyran considers.... "quiet ones first. And bring a light." and moves down the stairs. Stealth: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (18) + 16 = 34 He quietly keeps Dancing Lights as far ahead of himself as he can see while moving to catch up with Lefty.

Tessai follows a ways after Wyran.

The elf grumbles to himself that he hadn't prepared a Darkvision spell, but such is the life of a wizard...

I'm going to light up and go north first, just in case there's something ugly waiting to ambush us. I think you guys should head to the south. That's where the light is. I'll catch up once I've had a look around.

Lefty uses the dancing light to illuminate well down the hall, and moves silently after it.

Lefty:
Your floating torchlights drift up the hallway to the north as you stand at the opening of the T-Junction.

The hallway goes north for 75 feet, then turns to the east. Two openings are located in either side of the corridor.

Looking south you can see an opening to what looks like a massive room illuminated by dim flickering firelight. You can see massive pillars that appear to support the ceiling.

Dark Archive

Malinor follows along taking his time to try and keep silent.

I will just take 10 to get a 25 stealth as we go.

Finding himself at the bottom of the steps, ting responds to 'Lefty.' Abso-floggin'-lutely 'Lefty' we's'l head south." Turning right, ting begins to head towards the light flickering in the south, keeping his eyes peeled as he goes.

Lefty:
As you head north you see that each of the entrances in the hallway is closed off with a barred gate. As you reach the first you see a number of scrawny, scarecrow-like bodies laying on the floor.

Ting:
Heading a short distance south, you are at the entrance to a massive room (110' by 50'), with a ceiling arching 50' above. Massive pillars support the ceiling above. To the east the floor of the chamber rises in two tiers. A cluster of zombies guard each of the two stairways to the first tier. A number of priests and an acolyte stand behind the zombies, chanting in prayer.

M Elf U. Rog 1, Evok 4, AT 1 HP 44/44 | AC: 22/18 T: 14 F: 15 |CMB: 3 CMD: 17 | F +4 R +5 W +5 | Init +5 | Perc: +11|

There are bodies on the floor, but nothing moving. I'll check it later. Ting, what's happening on your end?

Lefty watches the tengu's silhouette in the dim light.

Not sure if anyone was with ting or not

As he peaked around the corner into the large chamber tings eyes widening as he saw the cluster of zombies, he priests and the acolyte. Speaking as softly as he could, tucking back around the corner, "Tha bodies 'ear ain't on the floor, well's they's is, but 'air standin' up guardin' tha stairs where tha bloody priests is. An' 'airs a big toady statue wroight."

Looking back at the others, Ting puts a figher over his beak and then points towards the wall indicating the next room.

So with whisper can everyone here ting or only 'Lefty'?

M Elf U. Rog 1, Evok 4, AT 1 HP 44/44 | AC: 22/18 T: 14 F: 15 |CMB: 3 CMD: 17 | F +4 R +5 W +5 | Init +5 | Perc: +11|

They can only hear Lefty.

We've got some people to the south. Time to crash the party, people! Let's go.

With that, Lefty catches up to Ting and takes a look for himself.

Crap! That's a lot of them!

You can't tell if they are aware of you, but they are definitely in a defensive posture.

”If they have not noticed us yet, please stand back” - Tessai voices through the magical spell - ”Unless the child is there, they are not our priority. Every moment we delay, she can be in danger”

M Elf U. Rog 1, Evok 4, AT 1 HP 44/44 | AC: 22/18 T: 14 F: 15 |CMB: 3 CMD: 17 | F +4 R +5 W +5 | Init +5 | Perc: +11|

Tessai says we should stand back. I agree, Lefty whispers so everyone hears.

Let me take a look while I'm still invisible. If she's in here, we'll have to be careful. If she's not, it will be a lot easier to deal with them.

Lothorian takes a few tentative steps into the room, hoping no one there has the magic to spot him.

Tessai:

Lefty:
The three priests seem to be chanting in prayer. The acolyte is behind the line of zombies keeping watch.

Wyran had started to follow Lefty. With his light he lets his expire. When the decision is made to check out the active undead and priests, then pause, he stays back and waits for instruction.

M Elf U. Rog 1, Evok 4, AT 1 HP 44/44 | AC: 22/18 T: 14 F: 15 |CMB: 3 CMD: 17 | F +4 R +5 W +5 | Init +5 | Perc: +11|

No sign of the kid, The elf whispers.

As long as they're busy here, we've got time to look for her in all the other places she could be, if she's not already one of the corpses I saw to the north. Let's go that way. If they come after us, they'll have no advantage in this narrow hallway.

Lefty goes back to the hallway, but stays invisible. ...because why not?

DMofGraves:

1d2 ⇒ 1

Tessai:
even was good, odd was bad :-(

Lefty:
the bodies in the cells might be dead, they might not. they certainly don't look healthy. the cell doors are locked

Looking towards Tessai then Wyran, ting steps back out of the doorway. Turning toward Tessai, he motions the others north. Placing his back towards his friends, he moves north keeps an eye on the door bow at the ready. Occasionally turning his head so he can see the direction his is going, then turning back watching towards the south.

Human bloodrager 1/transmuter (enhancement) 5 - HP 50/50, AC 13 (21 w/ shield and Mage Armor) - Perception +10; F: +6/ R: 2/ W: 5- Speed: 40, Active Conditions: n/a

"Agreed," Garados replies and backs away with Lefty.

Malinor follows behind Tessai quietly.

Lothorian arrives at the cells, pulls out his toolkit, and starts picking the lock on the one to his left.

disable device: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 12 + 2 = 18

He might need some help. Ting! Can you come try your hand at this lock? he whispers.

Hearing 'Lefty's' request, ting turns and notices the lock picks floating against the latched doors, chuckling, he answers, "Abso-floggin-lutely." nudging the Malinor on the shoulder he nods his beak back towards the south, "Keep 'at door covered, wroight."

He then moved to where the lock picks were floating in front of the door. Taking out his own tools, ting quickly begins to unlock the first door, once he is finished he will proceed to do all the locked cells.

Not in initiative so taking 10(31) on disable device

Ting opens the door (assuming the one on the right side of the hall).

Inside there are three humans (two men and one woman).

One of the men looks to be dead. Probably of sickness & starvation.

The other two appear to be sick, but alive and sleeping fitfully.

Perception check for Ting and Lefty

If were not in initiative I normally just have ting take 10(22/25) if this roll is for traps please add three
perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14 LOL, yeah, would clearly rather take '10'

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Ting:
This isn't a search, it's a 'hear something down the hall'.
And you don't!

Lol, that makes sense thank you for the explanation.

His Carrion Sense didn't happen to pick any thing up did it? Of course down here how would he know :)

You definitely smelled dead people back in the big chapel and you've got a dead body in the cell you're in, and a couple of (barely) live ones.

Let's get them some food and water, Lefty says, grabbing some provisions from his haversack.

Let's check that other door, too.
