Dungeon Master S - 2e |
My deepest apologies. My game switched tabs due to a change in recruitment methods. I don't think I captured the link. Dreadfully sorry. I'll be on top of this game, don't let that hiccup scare you!

No worries. Any check-in info needed?

Evindal Mog is here, reporting for duty!

No worries. Any check-in info needed?
Indeed!
Welcome to my Play-by-Post!
Here's the ctrl+P for all my games:
1. I've been running games since the late 1980s,I've seen a lot of editions. I started playing PFS with Slot 1 Season 0 at Gen Con. I'm solid with the PFRPG rules, but everyone makes mistakes. I'll try to be as fair as possible.
2. I'm a Venture-Lieutenant for Southern NH. If you're ever in the area, or youneed help finding games/conventions there. PM me.
3. I post with a high rate of frequency. That being said, if you guys can post 2-3 times per day, awesome. If it's only 1/day I understand. No worries. Real Life Comes First (tm).
4. Feel free to preemptively roll Perception, Thievery, etc. It makes the game run more efficiently. I ask only that you make sure minis are placed in their actual position in case your choices have consequences (good or bad.)
5. Let's get started:
Player Name:
PC Name:[
PFS#:
Faction slotted:
Downtime:Feel free to roll now.
Perception and vision/senses:
Default Exploration Tactic:
Notes:Anything I should know; passive abilities, boons that are way out there, etc. If you have abilities that are immediate actions that interrupt an enemy, I'll be as fair as possible, but you can help me out by telling me under what conditions you typically use it.
----------------------------------------------
Some expectations in my games:
That's about it! Looking forward to the game! We have 1 TBD. Once confirmed, I'll calculate the challenge, but BY ALL MEANS, introduce yourselves in character (in Gameplay.)
Mimi de Valence |
Player Name: Palandri
PC Name: Mimi de Valence
PFS#: 2380483-2007
Faction slotted: Horizon Hunters
Downtime: Performance vs DC 14 (Level 0): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9 - Zut alors!
Perception and vision/senses: expert +6 with normal human eyesight
Default Exploration Tactic: Mimi's default exploration mode is Avoid Notice with rapier in hand.
Notes: Mimi has Incredible Initiative, which when combined with her Stealth +8 (for Avoid Notice) gives her an Initiative check of +10.
Mimi speaks Taldane (ie. Common) with a strong Galtan accent and throws in the occasional (common) Galtan (ie. French) exclamation as required (eg. "En Garde!"). Just imagine Poirot or Inspector Clouseau reading the lines in a faux French accent and you'll get the idea. If this becomes too annoying, please let me know and I'll tone it down or eliminate it altogether.

Perception and vision/senses Perception +7; low-light vision

Notes multi-classed cleric, nothing too exotic here
Evindal Mog |
Player Name: Abraham Z.
PC Name: Evindal Mog
PFS#: 100198-2002
Faction slotted: Envoy's Alliance
Downtime:Feel free to roll now. - will do some Crafting but I'm not sure what yet.
Perception and vision/senses: Perception +5, low-light vision
Default Exploration Tactic: Search
School item: Field Commissioned Agent, so no school item
Notes: Ranger Dedication (from Ancient Elf) which he mainly uses to Hunt Prey for extra range on his bombs.
He has two Hirelings - he'll decide which to slot once we get the mission briefing.
He also has the Skillful Mentor boon in case anyone is getting a level bump.
He starts the day with 7 reagents and will typically use all or most of them to prep bombs in advance. Evindal's current planned load out is: 2 each for six different kinds of bombs: acid, fire, lightning, frost, blight, dread, which leaves 1 reagent for quick alchemy. Other options are: silversheen, cat's elixir, antiplague, antidote. Note that he's not much use for healing (doesn't even have the Medicine skill, though one of his Hirelings does).
He also has a familiar lizard who doesn't typically do much but tries to stay out of trouble.
Re posting frequency: I'm a solo parent of a 4 year old, with custody 50% of the time. When she's at her mom's I should have no trouble posting multiple times/day but when she's with me I may not get a post until after bedtime each night.

Real Life Comes First. Don't worry AT ALL about it!
Jraal |
Hey! Sorry, just saw this. Dotting in now.
Player Name: MauveAvengr
PC Name: Jraal
PFS#: 215382-2005
Faction slotted: Horizon Hunter
Downtime: Ocean Lore: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Perception and vision/senses: darkvision; perception +6
Default Exploration Tactic: Scout
Notes:
Jraal believes he's the true reincarnation of Apsu! Also, need to update his sheet to level 2. Will do that later today.
Dungeon Master S - 2e |
Okay, calculating CP:
Corelion, Level 2: 3
Evindal, Level 2: 3
Jraal, Level 2: 3
Mimi, Level 2: 3
Voro, Level 2: 3
Iusantus, Level 1: (Still need a check in.) 2
Challenge Points: 17
Parties with 16-18 play in the higher level range only if they have 4 or fewer PCs. If they have 5 or more PCs, they play in the lower level range. This allows small parties of high level adventurers to play in the higher level range, while large parties of low level adventurers play in the lower level range.
Low Tier.
Evindal Mog |
For this mission, Evindal will slot his hireling with the Medicine skill (and he'll buy Healer's Tools for the hireling to use - just noticed I hadn't done that).
In case it is relevant, he has the Skillful Mentor boon: "While working with less experienced Pathfinder allies, you provide vital advice to sharpen your newer colleagues’ skills. For any PCs benefiting from a Level Bump and whose levels are lower than yours, you increase the Level Bump’s modifier to skill checks to 2."
He has 7 alchemical reagents per day. He'll use 6 of them, one for each of the types of bombs he knows, leaving 1 reagent available for Quick Alchemy.
Mimi de Valence |
Sorry about that. I (and apparently Mimi) forgot that we had an alchemist in the party. I only looked at who was trained in Martial weapons.
It turns out that Mimi is +8 at throwing bombs, so a smidge better than Evindal's +7, though without any helpful feats. Evindal also seems to be well stocked with his own bombs, so unless he asks for it, I think I'll leave the Alchemist's Fire with Mimi; it might be interesting to see what she can do with it.
Evindal Mog |
Fine with me. We’ll blow the whole place up!
Mimi de Valence |
I'm afraid that the TACTICAL map is read-only for me. I can't move Mimi's token to the other side of the Red Mephit. Based on his lack of movement, I assume that Jraal is having similar difficulties.
Dungeon Master S - 2e |
Fixed! Sorry about that.
Mimi de Valence |
Is the encounter over? The text seems to suggest that the red mephit still stands.
Looks like I can edit the TACTICS map now. Sweet!
Mimi de Valence |
It does look like a successful save still means persistent, but as mentioned, you are at the docks.
It appears that in the absence of specific instructions in the effect description (mephit breath in this case), there is some question as to what happens to the persistent damage portion of an attack in the case of a successful saving throw.
It depends to a great extent on whether you treat persistent damage more as "damage" or as a "condition". If it is "damage", then a successful save would halve it (ie 1d4/2) and a crit success would avoid it altogether. If it is a "condition", then it takes effect regardless of the result of the saving throw. Hybrid approaches are also possible, such as taking the full persistent damage except in the case of a crit success on the save, in which case you avoid it.
As with other ambiguous RAW, it is up to the GM to decide which way they want to go.
Mimi de Valence |
It seems that we did not plan sufficiently in advance to bring along a healer. From my perusal of the PC profiles, it appears that Voron is the only one trained in Medicine and thus capable of doing Treat Wounds on us. After that it's either potions/elixirs, or we stay injured. We are not that far from the Grand Lodge, so perhaps the GM will allow us to drop into the infirmary there on the way to the abandoned tavern.
Dungeon Master S - 2e |
I'll allow it.
Mimi de Valence |
I'll allow it.
Excellent. Very generous. Unless you want us to RP the healing, we can always assume that a quick detour to the Grand Lodge for a patch-up took place on the way to the abandoned tavern.
Dungeon Master S - 2e |
Strictly speaking I think resources still need to be spent. I don't mind them being handled with simple narration, but the rules don't really allow for a total handwaving (though I do once the skill checks are a sure thing.)
Mimi de Valence |
Ah, I understand. So we're back to Voron doing Treat Wounds on each of us (starting with himself) at 10 minutes per person, and then repeating every 50 minutes as required. Otherwise we're stuck using potions and elixirs. Fortunately, it appears that Voron has Healer's Tools, so we don't have to waste time or money buying any.
Evindal Mog |
Any reason not to attempt Treat Wounds first? Besides Voron, Evindal's Hireling is also trained in Medicine (but only has a +4). I'm also not really clear about how much damage people have? Evindal passed and crit passed his saves vs the breath weapon but there was also the persistent dmg. GM, would it be possible to post a tally of who has how much dmg? That might facilitate us making the Medicine checks for Treat Wounds and then figuring out whether we need to purchase additional healing on top of that.
Evindal Mog |
Evindal (or his hireling) also has healer's tools. So they could both be attempting checks, though again +4 ain't great. But first I think we need a tally of who has how much dmg.
Note: besides the elixirs of minor healing we were given at the outset, Evindal also has 4 that he had previously crafted.
Voron Keyphyra |
Voron has no problem treating wounds. I can add a post with attempts momentarily, but failing that I'm guessing most took minor potion of healing as their school item.
Voron Keyphyra |
I didn't see a summary of damages in any of the posts. Is everybody's status line accurate?
Jraal |
I believe Jraal has 10 damage. And yeah, Jraal has a minor potion of healing.
I've actually never made a character with medicine as there is usually a few people with it as a skill.
Evindal Mog |
I'm really not sure how much dmg Evindal took. I believe it was only 1 fire dmg from the initial two breath attacks (due to a success for half dmg from the 3 dmg attack and a crit success for 0 dmg from the 6 dmg attack) but I don't know how much he took from the persistent dmg. I think the GM just rolled 1d4 (for 2 dmg) for that, which I guess means that the crit success meant no persistent? Or that the two different sources of persistent didn't stack? In any case, my best guess of how much total dmg Evindal took is 3. Since I assume that time matters here I'm ok with just leaving it be for now rather than waiting an hour to attempt another Treat Wounds check.
Mimi de Valence |
The only real downside of Treat Wounds is the time it takes: 10 minutes per person, then wait 50 minutes before trying again (for a total of 1 hour). If time isn't of the essence, then eventually there will be enough successes to heal everyone to full.
Since we are out of encounter mode and the relics were taken away several hours ago (sometime in the morning), I suspect that the time pressure on us is off, at least off enough to spend another hour or two healing everyone.
I suspect that the abandoned tavern will include an encounter with the hooded servants and maybe even their pâle-skinned leader. As such, I really recommend that we get everyone up to full strength before we go in; bad things tend to happen when damaged PCs go into an encounter.
Mimi was down 6 hit points (4 from the initial damage + 2 persistent) but Voron healed her up to full, so she's done.
The wait between the 10 minute Treat Wound attempts is 50 minutes per person. That means that if persons A, B and C get treated in order (taking 30 minutes), then we only have to wait 30 minutes before the cycle starts again with A.
Dungeon Master S - 2e |
I'll tally damage once I get out of my first class this morning. (In my APs I'm accustomed to PCs keeping their lines updated, but I don't mind posting a tracker. It'll just take me a bit to get to it this morning.)
Evindal Mog |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
I'll be playing online games at GenCon this weekend, Thursday night through Sunday so my posting may be a bit sporadic.
Voron Keyphyra |
Voron's tracker will typically be up-to-date.
Unfortunately, those rolls...
Mimi de Valence |
I don't believe that we're in a rush here. Those artifacts have presumably been taken to the abandoned tavern for storage and have been there for several hours already. I don't think that waiting another hour or so for another round of Treat Wounds will change that situation.
What I do believe may very well change the outcome of the encounter at the abandoned tavern is if we're not at full strength going into it. I've noticed that even a 5 hp deficit for level 1-2 PCs in these scenarios can up the difficulty of an encounter by one or two notches.
Voron Keyphyra |
Thankfully I got some nice balancing rolls in the next hour.
Mimi de Valence |
Any chance we can clean up the multiple Evindals and the squiggly line from the TACTICAL map? It's beginning to look a little confusing.
By the way, did Mimi have to roll a concealed flat check or are these black-eyed albinos clearly visible in bright light?
Jraal: feel free to roll an extra D10 for damage :)
Much like Mimi's shortsword, Magic Weapon turns Jraal's weapon into a +1 Striking Greatpick.
In addition to adding an extra 1d10 of damage on a hit, it also adds a +1 bonus to attack! Not that this would have made a difference on Jraal's first attack, but we're all hoping for better from him in the future.
Too bad Jraal didn't use his Oil of Potency like Mimi suggested; it would have saved Voron having to cast his spell.
Dungeon Master S - 2e |
No need to roll in the light. (home game tonight. Will post ASAP.)
Evindal Mog |
Thanks for running, GM! I had a great time.
For chronicles, Evindal will use 7 days of downtime to retrain Alchemical Familiar to Far Lobber. He'll have another 5 days of downtime to spend, likely on starting to craft something. I'll have to take a look to figure out what that will be.
Mimi de Valence |
My thanks to the GM and the other players for a fun game.
That was a quick scenario. I'm playing in five of them for Gameday X, and this is the first to finish; the rest still have a long way to go. If anything, the BBEG fight was a bit of an anti-climax, but I guess that's what happens when everyone is critting like crazy with +1 Striking weapons.
Dungeon Master S - 2e |
This one is short, and awfully combat heavy at that. I had a pleasure at the table! I'm likely going to offer up another game for GameDay once I get my ducks in a row.
Jraal |
Thank you for GMing! This was a fun scenario. Still trying to find the 'voice' for Jraal and don't think I have it quite nailed down just yet.
Voron Keyphyra |
Oh wow, it's over! That was a lot of fun GM, thanks so much! I'd love playing with any of you again too!
