No. First, the level of the invisibility spell would need to be lower than 1, which is not possible. Second, Detect Magic does not give you any kind of localizing information until it's heightened to 4th (character level 7).

Hey folks, just checking in - I've been in a bit of a funk for the last few days but I'm hoping things are starting to shift back to normal. This unfortunately happens to me sometimes when the days start getting shorter and there's less daylight to be had.

I've got to get some sleep but I'll try and get caught up on the game later this evening; until then please feel free to bot/delay me as needed.

I know the feeling. It's like getting jetlagged without having to leave your time zone! I usually needed a week to recover from the shorter day... :)

PMed a link because posting I'm not sure what Paizo's policy on foreign words is.

DC 25?! That's an insanely high DC for a level 1 adventure!

There's a reason for that, but I'm not sure it's fun or funny, and if I hadn't posted the DCs, I could have "forgotten" to apply the Elite template. I actually forgot to apply the Elite template with my GenCon table, and it was still pretty wicked.

If, after a couple rounds, you decide that you're not having fun, let me know. This scenario made my one of my characters quite upset with the Society.

I also won't run the mimic encounter by PbP again. It's too moment-by-moment dependent.

Wow ... did Feno's Attack roll of 20 really miss? Because it's Elite? If so, Elite seems a bit excessive for a party of level 1's. Honestly, I can't see us making much of a dent with those DCs. Maybe if you wanna retcon to make it non-Elite, we might have a shot?

If not, I suppose we can always pull a Brave Sir Robin...

When danger reared its ugly head, Sir Robin bravely turned and fled.

I don't mind it at all! My character may be frustrated, but as long as we don't die, I'm having a good time.

GM Blake wrote:

I'll pre-weigh in so that my opinion isn't colored by what actually happens (I feel like players tend to be overly dismissive if they get lucky and everyone feels 'no harm no foul'; and overly critical if they get unlucky and think the encounter is harder than it is).

Bottom line: I trust you as a GM to guide us towards fun.

A DC 25 is basically saying, "you're not really supposed to make this check." Some characters will only Succeed on a nat 20! And in general, I think that's actually fine so long as the failure/crit failure outcomes are balanced appropriately.

Tough DC + Slightly Bad F/CF = Moderate DC + Moderately Bad F/CF = Low DC + Severely Bad F/CF = probably fun

Tough DC + Moderately Bad F/CF = Moderate DC + Severely Bad F/CF = probably no fun, too hard

Moderate DC + Slightly Bad F/CF = Low DC + Moderately Bad F/CF = probably no fun, too easy (feels like pointless rolling)

If in 3 rounds we're all glued to the mimic, that could be infuriating or hilarious, depending on how the GM plays it.

I'm running Malevolence, and there are a few checks that have insanely high DCs (DC 37 for 3rd-5th level characters), but only because the characters are supposed to find out more and hit a lowered DC later in the game. So it's Insane DC + Literally Zero F/CF = fine in a limited context.

Echoing Soup's statement that I trust in you, the GM, to make things fun rather than miserable. And admittedly, from a purely meta perspective, I the player think this is amusing.

Bugtussle, however, may think otherwise, of course. He'll certainly take this turn of events seriously!

Bugtussle -- Father Cornelius was planning on using a 15' cone spell next round. Bugtussle's current position puts him in the area of effect.

On our next turn, assuming the Chair stays put in its current position, I'm hoping Bugtussle plans to Step north against the wall to provide (and benefit from) Gnimish flank for your attack. Is that do-able?

It would have hit if he had the advantage of flanking.

This obtuse clue might help make the events a little more fun for your character narratives: Why!? Why is there a man-eating couch here? Is Salvotor's manor under attack? Might there be other assassins in hiding?

EDIT:

Less Obtuse Clue:
The Seek action is a thing.

No worries! As long as Bugtussle can move out of his square (either against the wall, or anywhere further away), the spell will be fine. So hopefully, the leshy can make it work.

Yes! I knew that! Sorry.

| Extinction | url= |

You're doing much better now that I included Feno's crit. :)

| Extinction | url= |

Real quick so that Gnimish can act:

Yes, Gnimish would still have been knocked unconscious (crit did 21 damage) so is prone and disarmed (if he had anything in his hands) when he wakes up from Cornelius' heal.

Thanks for the reminder on Feno's LOH. For some reason, even though I was thinking about Bugtussle's AC bonus from LOH, I seem incapable of registering Feno's actions on the tracker. :S

A little encouragement: you're more than 50% of the way there.

Question to be answered after the combat: Does the tracker display -67 hp for the enemy because we've done 67 hp of damage, and it has some resistances that's not tracked; or is it -67 hp because this thing has more than 67 hit points?

I was thinking about turning around and GMing this for new players, but may choose a different scenario if I think this one is going to scare new players away.

| Extinction | url= |

I track the damage applied to the creature, so the latter.
