Locket also has a thermal capacitor (-5 to cold and fire) - I just realised that some of the damage he's taken hasn't all been electrical as my brain had interpreted and he may have taken some cold damage along the way. I'll go through and check more closely later (hopefully it won't come into play in the interim)
Reflex DC13: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Charging toward the jinsul boss as he is, Locket does his best to avoid the discharged electrical energy.
The pahtra keeps his feet in the wake of the blast and dashes across the wall at his opponent, kusari-fundo swirling.
Energy trailing from his weapon's orbit, he tapers toward his foe, attacking head-to-carapace, albeit on a perpendicular orientation to the jinsul.
Kusari-fundo: 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 13 + 2 = 24 w/Get 'Em
Cold damage: 3d4 + 13 ⇒ (4, 1, 3) + 13 = 21

Harlan Riggs |

Not that it matters with their poor rolls against him, but Harlan is underneath the platform, as I mentioned here, so at least red and yellow don't have line of sight on him. Black may have had a line at the top of the round before it moved.
Harlan notes the movements of the foes nearby with his echolocation, then floats down and to the south. Firing upward and to the east, he generates another massive bloom of fire to catch all four new reinforcements. (Exploding it 5-10 ft above the southern platform will get all of them in the sphere)
Explosive blast, DC20 Reflex for half (F): 9d6 + 8 ⇒ (3, 1, 6, 2, 1, 5, 5, 5, 3) + 8 = 39

Only tracked "put the pillar between" Sorry. Fortunately I don't think their rolls can hit anyone, so no retcon is required except to note frost beams fly all around Locket and Faelyn instead of Harlan.
Zephyr's laser punches a nice hole in the jinsul's abdomen. The oversized-insect falls to the deck.
BG -- I've been thinking of your thermal capacitor as fire resistance only. Zephyr's taken a few less damage, but I don't think it's going to matter now. SuperS -- their guns are cold-based, the explosive blast was fire. As a reward for offering to retcon, you may repost your actions this round.
Cellion, "You magically transform a used battery into a powerful explosive device, propelling it in a straight line to a grid intersection within range, at which point it detonates" Harlan doesn't have line of action if he's underneath the platform. I'm going to move him to where he will have line of action and assume he drops his altitude to 15' below the platform. Spell detonates as you described above. But if you really want to retcon something else feel free.
Harlan notes the movements of the foes nearby with his echolocation, then floats down and to the east. Firing upward and slightly south, he generates another massive bloom of fire to catch all four new reinforcements.

If Harlan is in the position I had moved him to, 15ft below the platform, he has a line up to the circle center 5ft above the platform. I drew a diagram of a "side on" view on the magma river map to show it. White line is the platform, orange line and circle are the explosive blast.

Locket Alyara |

Seeing Zephyr's laser fire drop the jinsul leader, Locket pivots to retrace his path back the southern platform.
Wrapping, pulling and weaving the chains of energy before him, Locket whips a fiery bolt at a nearby jinsul reindmforcement as he reaches the end of the wall and prepares to disengage his altered field of gravity.

GM Thom: in going over the posts for this encounter, it appears Locket has taken damage from 2 blasts from flags (fire) and 2 laser shots from jinsul minions (cold) that would be mitigated by his thermal capacitor for 20 less damage overall. Thanks!

Faelyn "Nym" Arbane Safir |

“Keep it going! Let's start with black.”
Move action:Move northeast over the platform so he won’t plummet to the bottom of the room if he goes down.

Locket's plasma blast narrowly misses the jinsul.
Faelyn waves his pistol and fires roughly at black to indicate that jinsul needs special attention. Also a miss.
Flags going down only seems to stir the jinsuls up more. Two of them rush Locket. They slash at him with their leg blades. One even hits. 12 damage
Green fires wide of Zephyr again.
Black scrabbles forward and slashes at Faelyn. It's legblade rips into the aasimar. 11 damage

Zephyr blasts his opponent. It's a very toasted looking jinsul that screeches back defiantly. Behind it two more come into view.

Altitude is correct.
Drawing air deep into his lungs, Locket reaches toward the floor, thumb and first two fingers extended as he rotates his wrist. A ripple shimmers across the floor's surface - and around any lifeforms it passes - as the pahtra steps off the wall and back on to the floor. Move action to deactivate his boots.
Back on even footing with the jinsul, Locket propels a front kick straight toward the nearest foe (yellow) and readies to immediately snap a side kick at its nearby companion, should an opening present itself. Lunge

Locket returns to normal gravity and drives a foot into each jinsul. They stagger back, but close again. Their legblades weave a deadly looking web of motion. One strike lands on the nimble pahtra while's he's extended and another while he twists aways.

2 people marked this as a favorite. |

The jinsul leader does indeed have a remote control for the doors into this room. It takes Harlan no time figure out how to close, and open the doors.
These doors are heavy biolock containment doors, and even though you can hear jinsuls pounding on the far side, there is no chance of them getting through short expert explosive demolition, something that will no doubt take a long time to arrange.
Within a few minutes, Historia-7 and Radaszam come jogging up the corridor, each holding one handle of a large, circular metallic object. The VCs secure the device to the base of the reactor, Radaszam muttering under his breath about how he’s “getting too old for this kind of work.”
You hustle back to your ship through the purple-lit corridors. Passing the lab, the small octopoid creature comes to Radaszam's attention. The vesk instantly kneels down upon seeing the creature, pulling some half squashed rations from a back pocket and tentatively offering them to the whimpering creature. The creatures curls up into a little ball in the crook of Radaszam’s arm for the rest of the journey.
As Zephyr maneuvers your jinsul starship away from the starbase, dozens of small drones deploy from docking bays all over the giant base, frantically chasing you. Historia-7 turns, gives the base one final look, and presses the button on a small transponder she held in her hand. After a moment there is a blinding flash of light and the starbase disintegrates into an explosive purple disk.
Zephyr engages the Drift engine, and the stolen ship slips into the Drift just as the first shock wave is about to engulf them. Once the ship enters the Drift, Radaszam's toothy grin is wider than you’ve ever seen it before. “Starfinders,” he laughs, “that… is how it is done.”
From here, you return to Radaszam’s base for a quick debriefing. The two faction leaders thank you for your assistance and remark on how the Society’s Forum may not have directly approved the mission, but the outcome was a victory the Society sorely needed. Despite needing the victory, you are strongly cautioned not to discuss or otherwise communicate about this mission with anyone.
Historia-7 intends on analyzing all the data that the PCs retrieved during their mission, while Radaszam comments on preparing the Society for future encounters with the jinsuls.
For now, you get a chance to relax before your next mission.

Harlan Riggs |

Harlan leans on a railing in the Starfinder ship, blowing smoke from a cigar as he watches the fireworks in the proverbial rear view mirror. "Beautiful. I could get used to this."
---
At the debrief, Harlan hands over the various data modules and keeps a copy for himself to peruse at his leisure later. The jinsul might be an intolerable threat, but that didn't mean their tech wasn't worth appreciating. Especially those torpedoes. He mulls over his next moves, and what he might be able to apply to the fights in the ring, as the Society leaders deliver another spiel. He cracks his knuckles. Seems like some more fun will be on the horizon.
