After reading the posts again, I think I may have had it flipped around in my mind - I think it was switching between references to left/right vs double/single and where the placard was placed - but I think I have it now. Right = double doors = placard and left = single door = slosh?
Still, his intention intention was the same - check the door that Harlan and Zephyr had indicated, which I understand to be the single door with the sloshing and without the placard.

Understanding indeed.

Locket slides the door open just a little, and immediately regrets it. What an incredible smell he's discovered. The rank smell of mildew and an earthy decay fill the hot, humid air of this confined space. A five-foot wide catwalk comes off the door, spanning the width of the room and resting five feet above black, opaque liquid that glows with green and purple hues in the soft light. To the west, a funnel descends from the ceiling and before Locket can get the door closed. it emits a grinding noise before releasing viscous material into the water, landing with a slight splash. The ripples soon dampen, but not before Locket notices something solid barely awash in the gel-like fluid.

GM stuff:

the armor is a specialist defiance series and the weapon is an elite semi-auto pistol. There’s also a credstick with 3,000 credits attached to the
side of the armor.

Gagging, Locket turns away from the door, covering his mouth. "Stinks..." he manages to explain. "Mouldy... Decay."

"Something... dropped into... sludge pool. From funnel," he pants. "Try to see,,, what it is."

Covering his face with his elbow, he turns back toward the door and attempts to identify the solid mass in the oozy pool from the doorway.

He turns back toward his companions, shaking his head. "Can't get a clear look."

on their starbases: This is a plant-like ooze, likely for recycling biological waste. If you look very closely there's identifiable bits of food scraps, various portions of alien anatomies, and biological waste products in the slurry. The ooze is unlikely to be sentient.

If the breastplate is 1 bulk or less, Harlan will use psychokinetic hand to grab it from a distance.

"Course it raises the question of what happened to the breastplate's previous owner..." Locket observes, glancing between the ooze pool, his companions and back.

Harlan's magic hand starts to lift the armor. It's more than just a breastplate; it's a full set of armor. The previous owner is still in it, although in skeletal form. The skeleton is of humanoid size and shape. It's bone ridges, sharp teeth, and very triangular head proclaim it a vesk.

The weight of the armor raised above the sludge overcomes Harlan's spell, and it sags slowly back into the sludge.

Perception DC 15 :
For just an instant there was a flash of something small, yellow, and rectangular.

"There's something attached to the armour!" Locket exclaims. "I saw a glash of yellow. Might be a small box, maybe a key or upgrade?"

He looks dubiously at the ooze. "Now, was it the sludge that left the vesk in that state?"

If it seems clear to do so, Locket will attempt to fish the armour out of the sludge.

"Yeah, probably. Don't get too much of the slime on ya." Harlan grunts to Locket. "Or get yourself a bucket of it and we got ourselves a nice weapon for later."

Firing up his hover suit, Zephyr pilots himself over to the vesk body and armor, trying to gently fish it out of the muck. He tries to make sure whatever that yellow bit is comes with it.

Zephyr maneuvers over the armor and pulls it upward. Maybe it's his jets, maybe the disturbance he makes in the muck, a wave of green putrid gases belches out of the sludge. He jets back to try to avoid the swelling cloud and drops the armor on the deck. Android, pahtra, half-orc and bulky armor clad skeleton clatter, then sprawl together on the small platform.

Outside, Faelyn coughs and wretches. "I'm going to be sick."

Over your comms, Historia, "Ohh. That's -- Crispy Circuits! Radaszam ground that blue wire!"

All of you please make a DC 20 fort save or suffer this unfortunate effect: debilitating gas (–4 penalty to Dexterity and Strengthbased ability checks, skill checks, and Reflex saving throws for 1d4 hours).

Maybe it is his own hardiness or the fact that he doesn’t need to breathe (+2 vs poison to the above roll), but Zephyr seems to be unaffected by the gas.

Locket had thought the stench from outside the room was horrid, but it paled in comparison to sensory assault once inside. The additional gases from the disturbed sludge prove more than he can handle.

Retching, he stumbles a hasty retreat to the corridor outside.

Nothing indicates the gas has magical properties. If you turned on your armor's environmental protections, seems reasonable that they'd keep this stuff out. Did anyone explicitly?

Checking back over the posts, Harlan did here. Rookie mistake - I did not make reference to it as part of Locket's preparations a little further on. I also didn't see menrion for Nym or Zephyr

Nice! All too often these adventures have an "automatically bypasses environmental protections somehow" clause.

Just watching Locket's reaction, Harlan's glad his suit is on full recirculation mode. He looks to see how the others are handling it, and whether they agree about the next order of business he suggested.

Locket stands doubled over, his hands resting on his knees, as he draws slow deep breaths in an attempts to settle what remains of his stomach's contents.

Looking a little pale, he wipes perspiration from his brow and manages a nod of agreement.

Belatedly, he also activates his armour's environmental protections as they set out.

After a short time, Faelyn also recovers and belatedly activates his own environmental seals. He smiles weakly. "On to the dangerous door then?"

Over your comms, Radaszam,"What was that about?"
Historia, "Odd system architecture and poor procedures. After activation, if the system doesn't receive a 'don't explode' signal at a preset interval, that wire charges a capacitor until -- blooey! It's simple and adaptable and low enough tech that it would be hard to jinx.
So it almost guarantees this bomb is going off if activated. In my notes the instructions are out of order, so I connected the blue wire too soon.... "

Zephyr activates his own environmental protections as well, though he usually doesn’t bother since he doesn’t need to respirate.

Taking the key card, he says, ”Any of this equipment of use to anyone? Anything we don’t take we should pitch back into the hoop so as not to leave a trail behind us.”

"Rather than the dangerous door, we should check that first locked door and see if this keycard does the trick, eh?" Harlan stabs his thumb back the way the group came. "As for the gear - we palm everything light, and leave the armor here. Who wants to get the world's worst slime bath putting that on?"

Because Harlan had removed an administrative control when trying to open the door previously, it slides open when the keycard is inserted.

The temperature in this sterile-looking room is noticeably cooler than the corridor to the west. A torpedo with open access panels rests along the eastern wall. To the north, a large glass case spans from floor to ceiling, with hundreds of vials lining slots along the interior. A computer terminal sits dormant in the southwest corner.

Harlan, what have you got running in the way of enhanced senses or detection?

In the test the torpedo is described as a "12-foot long cylindrical
object with an open exposure".

"Vials? Looks like experiments on making real potent warhead components, if you forced me ta guess." Assuming nothing jumps out at him, he saunters over to the computer terminal and sees if he can turn it on.

Nothing goes BUMP. Faelyn waits charmingly by the door where he can glance into the corridor periodically.

Harlan:
So no running detect magic?
From the computer: The torpedo in the room has just been loaded with a new type of biochemical weapon and is destined for the loading dock. The associated ship is destined for a system uncharted by the Pact Worlds within the Vast.

No detect magic running. Harlan doesn't have the habit of keeping it up. If there's something weird looking in the room though he would cast it to check out what that might be.

Harlan explains "Looks like we got ourselves a new biochem warhead in this thing. It's goin' to the Vast. Shame we can't pick this up an use it on the jinsul, eh?" He makes a copy of the data here to forward it onward to Historia and friends after the mission. "You lot want to check anything else out in here?"

"I considered wrecking the vials over there in case it is a poison or disease intended to be delivered by the torpedo...But if we blow up this place anyway, it shouldn't matter," says Zephyr, ready to move on.

Looking around the room, Locket nods his agreement with companions' assessment.

"Looks similar to the ones we saw earlier. Let's keep moving - the sooner we're done, the sooner this is all blown to system come."

The team exits the biological weapons development room with the prize of their data, and begins the trek back to the double doors across from the sewage room.

Over the comms Radaszam and Historia work through some technical details and resume arming the bomb. Eventually, the vesk returns to their interrupted conversation. " Fortunate the capacitor did not finish charging. And perhaps you thought that I would forget we were talking about you? How are the Dataphiles handling the return of Historia-6? Or more precisely, how are you handling the Dataphiles after Historia-6's return?"
A pause follows.
"I was apprehensive after we recovered Historia-6 in the Scoured Stars that things would be awkward. I've been running the Dataphiles for some time now so our situation was in some ways a microcosm of the Society vis-a-vis First Seekers Elsebo and Jadnura.
Things have been a little awkward, but not in the way I'd imagined. Like Jadnura, Historia-6 has not tried to regain his previous position. I am surprised because that contradicts the behavior Guidance predicted based on his profile. I have heard that he is contacting individuals within the Dataphiles, but the nature of those conversations is unknown to me."

Opening the double danger door

Flickering lights line the ceiling of this small, cramped room. Dark and dirty gated alcoves line the walls, and the fetid smell of rot fills the air. Otherwise it is still except for a single tentacle that curls up and unfurls down from the last cage.

With comms to the leaders closed, Harlan guffaws to the rest of the team "The big shots are big into gossip, huh? What a stunner." He reopens back to standard comms after that.

Harlan stays well to the back of the group when the double danger door is opened. He clicks his tongue to get the full sense of his echolocation, trying to sense if there's anything else in the room to be worried about beyond the rot and the tentacle. Wary that this tentacle conceals some larger beast, he also detects magic across the room.
