Game Master Bender is great

Welcome heroes and survivalists alike! I'll get a post in gameplay up soon, but here's a good place to finalize character choices, such as teamwork feats, gods, how you might know each other, and how you got to level 3 in your backstory!

@Lettu: It sounds like you might have been gone from the prime material plane for quite a while! In that case a lot of the human gods that were active when you left would be gone at this point. However, the elven pantheon has remained untouched, and nature + archery sounds very much in line for Eesoch, god of natural places, silence, and archery. You'd also have the dubious honor of being the only player to subscribe to a non-human deity to my knowledge!

Hey there everyone! Kissich reporting in for some pre-campaign planning! Mostly I have time to get my profile ready and make this post just now, but I'll be back soon for backstory and teamwork feats talk!

Female Half-Orc Sorcerer | HP: 15 | AC: 15 (16 if moved 10ft), T: 12, FF: 13 | Fort: +4, Ref: +5, Will: +4 | BAB: +1, CMB: +1, CMD: 14 | Init: +2 | Perception: +7 | Immunity to Sickened | Fire Resistance 10 | Meta Words: 1 Per Day

I think Tarial is ready to go, bar any changes to Teamwork Feats. It's worth keeping in mind that we're scheduled to get another one next level, if that has any bearing.

OK, Kissich wouldn't have headed directly to Methyis (or Mullern? the planned name changed perhaps?) after leaving the Mother House of the Order of the Eastern Star. The home base for the order would have been in a hilly region of this face of the cube near the boundary with the desert face (assuming they are adjacent,) and Kissich would have set out on her mission to protect people and gather information staring with smaller settlements. She presumably found a couple of abandoned towns overrun by low level undead (who she attacked when feasible, but avoided when they were too many or too powerful,) before coming across a group of survivors holed up in an old fort, trying to make go at building something. Staying with them for some time and making forays out to gather resources and scout, Kissich eventually realized that they were going to be overwhelmed and argued for leaving the fort and trying to head to a larger city. I think she would have convinced some of the fort-dwellers to come with her, but that the others refused to go, and were probably overwhelmed by some undead force shortly after.

From there Kissich and the survivors made it to Methyis as refugees, and Kissich immediately volunteered for wall and scavenging duties given her experience, skills and darkvision. She's been there for a while now and ready to volunteer to help with this mission that's about to head out.

If anyone would like to have joined Kissich at any point along the way for that journey she would have been happy to have companions she could trust in a pinch.

For teamwork feats I'm thinking that maybe we should make a list and see what everyone would benefit from? I'll be able to give everyone a single teamwork feat once a day for something like 4 rounds with tactician, so something that we'd want to use occasionally for important things, but not too often would be a good option there.

I would make use of paired opportunist or outflank, but of the two I'd rather have outflank at level 4 if any flanking buddies could take it then as well.

Stealth Synergy seems like a good one for everyone, and might make sense for my tactician ability, though we might want to use it more often depending on how sneaky we plan to be.

I would be able to make some use of escape route, though I also plan to be really hard to hit while moving through threatened spaces (which might mean that having me go in first with escape route up and letting others use that to get into position would make sense.)

Bonded Mind and Lookout are another two that I wouldn't mind having out there for consideration.

Well this is exciting. Thanks for the invite.

So looks like we got two melee (rogue, cavalier), a couple of casters (sorcerer, druid/oracle) and a pair of archers(inquisitor, zen archer/summoner)?

Stealth synergy, Lookout or Bonded mind would be usable by everyone, but then again not everyone needs to pick the same thing. Lookout is probably the most situational of those three.

M Lizardfolk Druid 3

Well, this is exciting! I'm glad to join in with everyone!

Let's see, I'd vote Stealth Synergy for everyone to start. It's just about the only way to make sneaking with a group practical, which sounds like it could be useful with this present circumstances.

I'm still working on filling out this profile, should hopefully be done with it by the end of the day. I'm pretty open to having met just about anyone in the party before--it might be interesting if he'd met Kissich on his way over from the Great Desert, but I"m not settled on that. As for how he reached level 3, I was figuring the journey from the Desert could easily have been that dangerous.

Hello, one and all!

I like the shambling horde's take on zombies. They're legit terrifying.

And I second Stealth Syndergy. If we are facing the potential for hordes of zombies, then being able to sneak is going to be important. And the problem with stealth is that if we have 5 dice rolls, then what matters the most is the lowest. Because that gets us caught and combat to start. Being able to roll several times and picking the highest will vastly increase our chances of not tripping unwanted encounters.

M Lizardfolk Druid 3

I believe I have everything down now except purchasing equipement.

Hey guys! Happy to be here. Thanks for the invite GM!

Eesoch it is :) Lettu wouldn’t know better if there’s any issue by worshipping a nonhuman deity. Also, Shabti might probably be created over other races as well, so maybe there’s something elven about him too.

As for teamwork feats, I like Lookout too. I also like Outflank and Lastwall Phalanx! If we go the Stealth Synergy route, I could boost Lettu’s stealth to the stratosphere - and as much as I like it, it’s usually situational. Considering this game, though, maybe it does make sense.

For hooking with others - Lettu had been out of the material plane until the last year or two, so maybe someone could have helped him reacclimate after his monastic training? Is anyone like a wanderer of ruins? :)

Stealth Synergy does make a lot of sense. If we run into a nation's worth of zombies it's gonna take all week to set them on fire, and the smell...

Right, so I'll take stealth synergy as my bonus level 1 feat, and then I think I'll go with escape route as the tactician feat. It might come up handy sometime, and if anyone else wants to take it for positioning purposes they're welcome to as I've got it for myself all the time. I'll plan on taking outflank at level 4 with anyone else who would like to join me at that (Thurin is the one I assume would be interested and able to take it then,) and I'll tentatively plan on Bonded Mind for level 8, though that's a long ways away so who knows what we'll be thinking then.

Aasimar Inquisitor (Royal Accuser, Sanctified Slayer) 3 ,AC 19/13/16 / HP : 24/24 / F +5 R +5 W +7 / Init. +4 / Perc. +10/ Sense Motive +7

@DM: what's the magic item situation in the city? Are wands of clw available? Potions?

Some relics left over from the before times for potions and wands. Sorry about the inconsistent city name, I'm absolutely terrible with coming up with names as you can tell from "The Cube" and "Endless Night."

Female Half-Orc Sorcerer | HP: 15 | AC: 15 (16 if moved 10ft), T: 12, FF: 13 | Fort: +4, Ref: +5, Will: +4 | BAB: +1, CMB: +1, CMD: 14 | Init: +2 | Perception: +7 | Immunity to Sickened | Fire Resistance 10 | Meta Words: 1 Per Day

Just cheat and use Latin. 'Sine fine Nocte' and 'Quadratum' are easy and fun for all! Or maybe 'Oidhche gun Chrìoch' and 'Ciùb'?

To be fair on world names, we call ours "Earth." Which comes from the word "ground." So yeah, real world names aren't very creative. And the names for our wars? "The Hundred Years War" or "World War X"? I think that if our sun got dimmed to the point where the brightest light was dusk, then we'd call it the "endless night" too.

So using latin is a good suggestion on adding some mystique. You can also lift names (with a letter change here and there) that were named from dead languages. Example:

Árheimar. Awesome fantasy name. It was the capital of the Goths, and literally means "river-home."

Lifting and modifying real world names from places that no longer exist can make the place "feel" right, without making anyone go "hey, I live there!"

Just so everyone's aware, gameplay's open and running. I'll get another post up later today, but I want to give everyone a chance to post first!

Who's got some coin to pitch in for a wand of CLW? With the 6 of us it should be 125 gold each, assuming no campaign setting markups.

M Lizardfolk Druid 3

Well I still haven't decided on what to buy, so I certainly can. :D

Same. I have 575 gold, so I can put up to 500 in.

Sounds good everyone. The 125gp should cover it, unless Kissich is broke, then it'll be 150gp.

Sorry for the sort of lackluster posts, there's been something living in my wall, scratching at all hours of the night and preventing me from sleeping. Hopefully my landlord will deal with it soon, but in the meantime I'm exhausted!

Interesting (and completely optional!) prompt to help flesh out your characters, everyone remembers what they were doing when the sun died, from chopping logs, to warriors locked in mortal combat pausing their duels, what is your story from that time?

F Ratfolk Daring Champion 3 | HP 28/28| AC: 21, T: 16, FF:16 | Spd: 20 ft | Init +3, Darkvision 60; Percept: +6 | Fort: +4, Ref: +4, Will: +2 | Challenges: 1/1

Kissich was broke, but I shifted some gear around (now I have a higher AC, but ACP which will hurt a few skills until I upgrade to different options in the future,) so I'll chip in 125 gold, sure.

Kissich was reading a text on the shadow plane in a courtyard at the Order's Mother House. Then the sun went out which was creepy. Her initial reaction was to think that she'd caused it, but as the tome wasn't magical she quickly dismissed that and went to find out what was going on from the rest of the Order.

M Lizardfolk Druid 3

Eh, don't worry, not every post has to be a masterpiece of fine literature.

Ssearfenth was on the road to Methyis when the sun was blotted out. Suffice it to say he picked up the pace when that happened. :D

Man, shame you didn't start a Call of Cthulhu game instead, it would have you in just the right mindset.

My commiserations for the haunting you are going through.

So who will carry our wand of cure light?

Who has the best UMD? Not it.

I have a UMD of 7, but Mithias and Ssearfenth don't need to use UMD as it's on their spell list.

M Lizardfolk Druid 3

Well neither I nor Mithias would need UMD to use it, as we both have CLW on our spell lists, I believe.

UMD...yes...that is a thing. Just not something Thurin has.

I realize before we get further into the game, I should probably mention it's got some pretty overt horror themes. I figure it's pretty self evident what with the undead and all, but I just wanted to make it crystal clear before you run into a zombie of a pregnant woman or something equally as morbid. If that's something you'd prefer I avoid, I can totally do that!
Also although the world is doom and gloom, I have a personal weakness for heroes who try to rise above it all. Grimdark fantasy is all good and well, but nuance! I like the characters who are at least still trying to make the world a better place, even if they can't always be at their best.

Speaking as someone whose setting of choice is warhammer fantasy, I'm fine and good with all of the above doom, gloom, grimness, darkness, and heroics. :)

Female Half-Orc Sorcerer | HP: 15 | AC: 15 (16 if moved 10ft), T: 12, FF: 13 | Fort: +4, Ref: +5, Will: +4 | BAB: +1, CMB: +1, CMD: 14 | Init: +2 | Perception: +7 | Immunity to Sickened | Fire Resistance 10 | Meta Words: 1 Per Day

I am fine with stuff. I'm a huge horror fan and suspect I have seen every possible nightmare version of zombies that the human mind can create, from pregnant zombies to pregnant zombies that have melded with there zombie fetus into a new, grotesque creature. I look forward to being proved wrong and running into something I haven't seen, though!

Are we simply roleplaying how this is going to utterly mess our characters up, or are you thinking of adding some mechanical stuff into our characters slow mental and physical degradation? Last time I ran horror in Pathfinder I worked with the players to add basically custom drawbacks onto there characters after especially traumatic encounters, for example.

You can carry it, if you want.

Grimdark is fine with me. I shall be a pillar of hope amidst the squalor of human weakness and despair! ;)

M Lizardfolk Druid 3

Sure, I'll carry it.

I'm fine with horror as long as you don't go into super specific detailed descriptions of the horror. It's scarier if you leave some of it up to the imagination, anyway.

Grats on second round. Which one did you get? I had the moderna vaccine round 1 and it knocked me out for the day.

M Lizardfolk Druid 3

Yeah, I found the second round had a lot more kick to it than the first round, so you might need a day or two to rest up.

Moderna, but I can't afford more than a day of inactivity, I got some pretty big projects I gotta complete by Monday evening.

I got the first round of Pfizer last Sunday and it knocked me out of things for half the week. Glad to hear you've got the second round done! Get back to us when you're ready, we'll understand!

Hi guys! Posting it on all my pbps.

Our offshore team at work is very affected by the pandemic at the moment and with the fiscal year approaching to an end, our reduced capacity is terribly affecting my time. For the next several weeks it will likely impact me in such way that I simply won't be able to keep up with the forums, things normalizing only as we start approaching mid June.

For the games where I play, GMs please feel free to bot the characters. If you don't desire to bot me for so long, I completely understand, apologize for the late notice and wish you all the best of fun. If you hold me around, though, I should be back after this storm.

For the games where I host, my sincerest apologies to the players - I won't let you hanging so if you stick around until my return we will give it continuation as normal. Otherwise, please message me and once I'm back I'll recruit replacements.

To everybody, I'm sorry for the late notice and I hope we will continue playing together once I'm back!

Cheers,

Archlich

Hey Arch! No worries, I'll keep your spot open! Mid June isn't that far away after all. Best of luck!

Hey everyone, I'm really sorry to have dropped off the face of the Earth without any warning! My partner was suddenly put in the ER for the last week, (they're doing much better now) but I was so frazzled between that and finals that I wasn't remembering to eat or sleep, let alone check the forums. I'm back now though, and I'll try to get something up ASAP! Thank you everyone for your patience!
