Dimple McSweetness |
Dimple steps up to the closed portal. She wrinkles her nose a bit as she considers any possible dangers with the door.
Will use Guidance and a use of Bit of Luck to check for traps
Perception + Guidance, Roll #1: 1d20 + 12 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 12 + 1 = 30

Disable Device (if needed): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (11) + 15 = 26
GM TOP |
Dimple is super duper extra sure there aren't any traps on this door.
It's taken about another minute to clear this far down here, so that is four minutes off any buffs cast before coming into the temple.
It also doesn't seem locked.
Liet-Gar Zirulak |
Drawing his blade, LGZ nods to Dimple. "When you're certain, step away and we shall see what lies beyond the door. From the entrance room, I'm guessing it's not going to be something nice."
Dimple McSweetness |
Dimple steps back and allows the formidable warrior room to engage his deadly art. She appraises him with a discerning eye.
You know, ever since coming back, he doesn't scream like a little girl anymore. I mean, I guess that's a good thing for him. Hard to be a big, bad, ole fighter if you shrill 'EEEKK!' at the beginning of every battle. They grow up so fast. Unless dying took away a little bit of what made him soft and caring and lovable. Oh Pish and Posh! Why does that have to be in my head now?
Kasvot Vaxt |
"Wait, is that a door?!?" Kasvot faceplants into his palm. "You could have just said so...." Kasvot retrieves his wand of shield and renews the spell before putting the wand back away.
Niza and Albis |
Niza pulls out her rapier and steps up, pushing the door open and looking inside.
GM TOP |
The door slides open. Everyone hears a scream of pain from inside. The pointy stick wielding gnome pokes her head through the doorway and sees a large room. At the very north end, four hunched hairless humanoid creatures lurch on back-bent, dog-like legs, their hideous mouths flanked by tiny arms with three-fingered hands. They are surrounding two prone humanoid bodies, one of creatures is slowly dragging its claws across the face of the victim as it screams in agony. There is also a third humanoid body lying in the back corner, though it isn't moving.
The creatures have yet to notice her, but with no cover if she moves out any farther or makes too much noise, they definitely will. What do you all do?
Niza Right Now If Trained, you may roll Knowledge “Planes”. With a success on your roll I will ID the creatures. This ID will include basic type/subtype and one tidbit of knowledge. I will dole out the tidbits starting with signature special abilities and then working to more mechanical things like DR and other resistances. Multiple rolls from multiple players, assuming they both beat the DC, will grant additional information and not duplicate tidbits.
Niza and Albis |
A low growl emanates from her throat as she turns with a loud whisper, "We need to go now, prepare for combat quickly."
And with that, she activates a shield on herself and turns to go into the room.
Niza will relay the information and wait a few seconds for everyone to get in position, but she won't be waiting any more than the round it takes to cast her shield spell. Her planned movement after that is shown on the map.
Edit to add...
Knowledge: Planes: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Liet-Gar Zirulak |
With but a nod, LGZ prepares to rush into the room.
"There's Evil and there's that! Completely uncalled for!"
Blue line is movement
Kasvot Vaxt |
Kasvot will start with--I estimate--8 rounds remaining on his shield, which accounts for the 1 round for Niza to enter and see the room, and 1 round for her to call us to action and cast her own shield.
Kasvot follows on Niza's heels, immediately trying to identify the creatures.
Knowledge (planes): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14 +2 if concerning demons
Move: 30'
Standard: readied action to cast haste when Stormy and Shade have entered the room and either Dimple or Arboreal has moved within 30' of LGZ (6 targets only, slowest misses it!)
GM TOP |
Fudgenuggets, I just realized that is a Knowledge Dungeoneering check. I see Niza has the same modifier so she'll still get the same info, but sadly Kasvot won't recognize them. My bad!
I'll adjudicate the best possible outcome here for all with their actions, but pretty much expect to get, at most, a standard and a move.
Niza recalls a bit of information about the creatures. They are Wrathful Sinspawn, NE aberrations.
She recalls two important tidbits. Firstly, if you are bitten by them you are plagued with sinful thoughts (mind effecting). Like... really nasty s##~ floods through your mind. If you aren't strong enough (will save) you can even be sickened or if bitten several times, staggered (2nd bite while sickened and another fail). Remove Curse, Calm Emotions and Break Enchantment can negate the effect. The other thing she recalls is these creatures were created to be disposable shock troops, so they could actually be trained or specialized (they can have class levels). If anything they use is obviously a class ability you all have, I'll point it out.
Dimple McSweetness |
Dimple follows after the others. "Why are we running and shouting?!?!"
Dungeon-y Things: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
"Oh gross, its a buncha stupid Angry Sinspawn whatchamacall 'ems! Hey! Do you think these are the things eating all the people? Then they might be sorcerers! Be careful of their magic!"
It does not look like we are in initiative yet, but preparing to Inspire in Round 1, then cast Bless in Round 2, then screem or yell 'Pish' and/or 'Posh' in subsequent rounds. *curtsies*
Arboreal |
Arboreal will begin casting Summon Monster II
Moved him near the door as he had been tracking
GM TOP |
Dimple recalls a couple things once she gets a good look at the beasties.
They have a special ability called 'sin-scent'. Essentially it lets them 'smell' rage. So if anyone had raged in range, they would have smelled it and been forewarned. Why 'raging' is considered a sin, well you'll have to take that up with Paizo. Anyway, they also have Spell Resistance (13) and are immune to any sort of mind effecting thing. Sorta useful to know. :D
______________________________
Kasvot waits until his allies are in place, then blasts everyone with haste. The magical energy quickens their reflexes and their feet (all but Arboreal because he was near the end and would benefit little from it).
Arboreal begins casting a spell (summon will materialize at the start of your next turn). Dimple yells out encouragement to her best friends squad. Everyone is now super confident!
Niza summons a nice shield of force that just floats there, waiting to be used. She rushes in and screams a challenge to the evil monsters.
"EVIL FIENDS, WHY DON'T YOU TAKE ON SOMEONE YOUR OWN SIZE!"
The group takes advantage of their surprise to move in behind her.
With Haste up, I moved everyone up a little farther. I left space between you and the enemies so they can't just step and full attack and also to maybe get them to provoke AoO's from LGZ. But... we shall see who goes first and what happens! All that movement was also what I considered the surprise round, so IC is now up and no one in the group is flat footed.

With a quick motion of his hands whirling around an imaginary sphere, Kasvot calls into being a real sphere of flame right in the middle of the chest of one of the sin-spawns, burning and crackling at its flesh.

No, that's just dumb....ooh 'Back-Scratcher'! Yeah, that's a winner. Anyway, I'm pretty sure Desna hates evil guys like you, so we're all gonna make sure you can't do villain things anymore."
Casting Bless. Party is currently +3 to hit, +2 to damage, +2 to saves vs Fear &/or Charm.

Kasvot sends the ball of flame at the same target. It easily dodges again. Stupid fire-ball sucks! He sends some force-bolts instead at the one closest to him. They thud with bruising impact.
Red Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Arboreal sends in some healing towards LGZ, trying to sacrifice Danny Boy in the process. Fortunately Niza is busy chewing on the green tinged wrathspawn's weapon so he can't swing at Dimple's second favorite bird.
Round 2: Tell me your sins, my son (IC is up, Bless is up, Haste is up for all but Arby)
LGZ (-48 HP, 2 rds raged)
Green (-31 HP, 2 rds raged)
Yellow (-39 HP, 2 rds raged)
Dimple
Niza & Albis
Kasvot
Arboreal & DB
Stormy (AoO vs. Green) & Shade (AoO vs. Yellow)
Red (-13 HP, 1 rd raged)
Blue (-58 and down)
Bold may act! If the AoO's change or remove any damage, I'll try to update HP with my next post. It is very likely Shade's attack vs. Yellow will get it grappled, but I can't guarantee any rolls, so we will have to see what happens with the AoO.
Stormy Weathers |
Stormy steps to flank Yellow and Shade then full attacks, including a hasted attack.
Bite: 1d20 + 10 + 3 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 10 + 3 + 1 + 2 = 171d8 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 7 + 2 = 11
Claw: 1d20 + 11 + 3 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 11 + 3 + 1 + 2 = 371d6 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 7 + 2 = 15
Claw Confirm: 1d20 + 11 + 3 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 11 + 3 + 1 + 2 = 321d6 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 2 = 10
Claw: 1d20 + 11 + 3 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 11 + 3 + 1 + 2 = 211d6 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 7 + 2 = 14
Hasted Bite: 1d20 + 10 + 3 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 10 + 3 + 1 + 2 = 251d8 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 2 = 10
Grab from hasted bite: 1d20 + 16 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 16 + 3 = 27
If the sin creature is still standing Stormy will attack twice. If not she will move to Green and attack once.
club: 1d20 + 12 + 1 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 12 + 1 + 3 - 2 = 222d6 + 7 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (2, 6) + 7 + 2 + 4 = 21
Hasted club: 1d20 + 12 + 1 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 12 + 1 + 3 - 2 = 232d6 + 7 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (5, 1) + 7 + 2 + 4 = 19

Shade rips into the flanked enemy, clawing it heavily across the face. She follows that up with another claw, ripping off the wrathspawns face and dropping it to the ground. Stepping in, she attacks the only other enemy in range, biting and grabbing the red skinned abomination.
Stormy turns to the side and whacks it twice with her club upside the head. It still struggles, but drops the reach weapon and tries to claw Shade to pieces!
Red Bite vs. Shade - Grappled: 1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 10 - 2 = 17
Red Claw 1 vs. Shade - Grappled: 1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 10 - 2 = 25 for 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Red Claw 2 vs. Shade - Grappled: 1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 10 - 2 = 27 for 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Shade takes a couple slashes, but holds on tight!
Round 3: Tell me your sins, my son (IC is up, Bless is up, Haste is up for all but Arby)

Yellow (-78 and dead)
Dimple
Niza & Albis
Kasvot
Arboreal & DB
Stormy & Shade (-16 HP, grappled)

Bold may act!

1 person marked this as a favorite. |
With Haste and Barkskin Shade is currently AC 28.
Noted. I doubt this combat will last much longer, it just sorta depends on what LGZ does and what the sinspawn can then do after he acts.

I would strongly suggest that you create an Alias character for Shade. It is a LOT easier to keep her stats, buffs and header up to date, especially if you then use that alias profile to post her actions. I have a level five druid strongly focused on an animal companion for damage as well and it is a lot easier to split them into two separate posts/characters.
It also means I (the GM) don't have to go searching nearly as far to find her current stats.
And yes, a ton of players don't update headers with buffs and such, so it isn't a big deal if it doesn't get done. But it does help out the GM a ton if you can do that (or at least post current stats in your last post, like LGZ is doing with his AC). It's no big deal either way, but does make my complicated job as GM easier. This last section goes for everyone, fyi. :P
Liet-Gar Zirulak |
Will vs MindAffect, Rage, Heroism: 1d20 + 1 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 1 + 2 + 2 = 12
Eh..not sure about that one - going to use my reroll
Will vs MindAffect, Rage, Heroism, 3 Star: 1d20 + 1 + 2 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 1 + 2 + 2 + 3 = 20
Feeling something creep into his rage fueled mind, he powers through and tries to end the remaining foe with a quick one, two.
"You've got no chance!"
Attack on red first, then switch to green if red drops
+1 Adamantine Ranseur, IC, Heroism, Rage, Haste: 1d20 + 9 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 9 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 29 for Piercing, IC, Rage: 2d4 + 4 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (4, 4) + 4 + 2 + 3 = 17 x3 crit
2nd Attack +1 Adamantine Ranseur, IC, Heroism, Rage, Haste: 1d20 + 9 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 9 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 28 for Piercing, IC, Rage: 2d4 + 4 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (3, 2) + 4 + 2 + 3 = 14 x3 crit
+1 AC Haste, -2 AC Rage = AC 19
Rage Round 3 of 5
GM TOP |
Liet-Gar's first strike drops the wrathspawn in Shade's mouth. It collapses like a limp chew toy.
He quickly pivots and spears just past Dimple, striking the last enemy still fighting. It doesn't go down though.
And being utterly enraged and so far beyond reason, it only has one thought... KILL!
It stabs Liet-Gar then steps up next to him and bites at his thorat! IT JUST WANTS TO TASTE WARRIOR BLOOD ONE LAST TIME!
Ranseur - cover: 1d20 + 11 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 11 - 4 = 23 for Piercing: 2d4 + 8 ⇒ (4, 4) + 8 = 16
Bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
But by the skin of his damned teeth, literally, the wrathspawn's maw just barely misses!
Rounds 3 & 4: Tell me your sins, my son (IC is up, Bless is up, Haste is up for all but Arby)
LGZ (-64 HP, 3 rds raged, see spoiler)
Green (-45 HP, 3 rds raged)
Yellow (-78 and dead)
Dimple
Niza & Albis
Kasvot
Arboreal & DB
Stormy & Shade (-0 HP)
Red (-80 HP, Dead)
Blue (-58 and down)
Bold may act!
Arboreal |
Arboreal shoots an acid dart at the creature then moves up the wall
acid touch attack: 1d20 + 5 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (18) + 5 + 2 - 4 = 21 IC but into combat
acid damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 IC does not apply I believe
Danny Boy withdraws back onto his shoulder
Kasvot Vaxt |
Kasvot keeps his flaming sphere rolling around, determined to have it make an impact as he carefully directs its roll around his companions. He follows that up with more magic missiles, slamming them into the still-too-close sinspawn.
Move: redirect flaming sphere 20' to green
Standard: cast magic missile targeting green
Damage, fire: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 4) = 15 Reflex DC 18 negates
Caster level vs. SR, spell penetration: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 2 = 15
Damage, force: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (3, 2, 3) + 3 = 11
GM TOP |
Arboreal, I believe I can finally put to rest that issue. Over here in the faq, it talks about any spell or ability that has an attack roll and does hit point damage qualifies for damage bonuses like from IC.
The Druid squeezes in a blast of acid that catches the creature across his back and sizzles.
Yet the creature still stands! Kasvot maneuvers his flaming tar ball at the creature and...
Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
...it takes it straight in the face, collapsing in a pile of burning tar.
Combat Over!
Buuuut.... Current Status (this is important because... barbarian fall down when no mad anymore)
LGZ (-64 HP, 3 rds raged)
Dimple, Niza, Albis, Stormy and Shade can act before LGZ has to make any hard decisions. Kasvot also didn't technically have to cast MM either, so he could still do a move or a standard.
Liet-Gar Zirulak |
As the last beast falls and the white light of healing washes over him, LGZ's eyes roll back. "Sseee? Gods did nuttin..."
*WUMP*
Toppling like a tree in the forest, the half-elf lays drooling...with a smile.
GM TOP |
Aight, out of trouble with that heal. I'll say that it isn't hard to stabilize him either (no checks needed at this point), so now just have to deal with the aftermath. LGZ is at -57 HP. No one else took damage.
The two cowering individuals look up, but remain cowering beneath the gaze of Shade, "Are you... here to save us?"
Arboreal |
Arboreal stows his other wands and takes out his healing wand and begins to heal LGZ
It may be just you he's trying to protect but we are all unharmed because of his efforts
clwx5: 5d8 + 5 ⇒ (3, 2, 8, 5, 2) + 5 = 25
expecting my self and Dimple to go halfsies on this as there is no way Dimple will just watch is my guess
Kasvot Vaxt |
"No, we're here to EAT YOU!!!"
Kasvot, seeing that LGZ is being taken care of, approaches the individuals they found. "Yes! We were hoping we'd find survivors; are you with the work party?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
