BOTTING Mizzrym - No post in 24+ hours

Mizzrym requests a short rest.

After a ten-minute rest, the party is free to continue on. When it does so, you find that you have time as there seems to be no life-forms on the surface of the planet to disrupt your rest.

Each PC should make Perception and Initiative checks.
Then, please move your token(s) onto the revealed portion of the Map.

Once you resume your travels, it is not long before you see what appears to be an object sticking out of the sands ahead at, what your sensors indicate, should be the crash site.

Fatigued: You can neither run nor charge, and you take a –1 penalty to your Armor Class, attack rolls, melee damage rolls, Reflex saving throws, initiative checks, and Strength– and Dexterity-based skill and ability checks. The amount of bulk you can carry without becoming encumbered is reduced by 1. If you are fatigued, doing an activity that would normally cause fatigue causes you to become exhausted instead. After 8 hours of complete rest, you are no longer fatigued.

The morlamaw readily spots a piece of the wreck half buried in the sand, which appears to contain the Unbounded Wayfarer’s antipersonnel weapon, a tactical X-gen gun. The reloading mechanism of the heavy weapon looks damaged, but it otherwise appears as though it may still be operational. Affixed to a heavy section of fractured hull and partially covered in sand, it looks as though it cannot be readily moved.

COMBAT BEGINS

Surprise Round!

Suddenly, the sand beneath your feet begins to give way as the ground trembles as a long, monstrous creature erupts from the sands between you. Light glistens off of the creature’s crystal carapace, reflected from the scorching desert sun, as remnants of the sound that once contained it now cascade off the towering beast like tiny waterfalls.

Yet, the most fearsome feature of this monster, at least of those portions of which are now above ground, are its enormous mandibles, which emit a continuous buzzing-like sound as they energetically thrum with anticipation.

It attempts to bite one of the Starfinders!

Did not expect that...

The creature's mighty mandibles crunches through the android's technoframe, their vibrations rattling apart the Starfinder's circuits.

Location of creature now on Map.

Mysticism (DC 13):

This creature is a skreebara, a 14-foot-long burrowing beast with six powerful legs. Its carapace is made of thick reflective crystal and it bears enormous mandibles that thrum with sonic energy. The tough, overlapping crystals that make up its carapace are valuable and fetch a sizeable sum of credits if properly harvested. If sufficiently desperate or frustrated, a skreebara may let loose a line of sonic energy, but it can only do so once approximately every six hours.
Sonic Screech (Su) As a standard action, a skreebara can unleash a 30-foot line of sonic energy. Creatures in the line each take 4d4 sonic damage (Reflex DC 12 half). Once a skreebara uses this attack, it must wait 6 hours before using it again, and during this time period, its bite attack does not inflict any additional sonic damage. As a result, a skreebara does not use this ability unless it is desperate or frustrated.

The lumbering creature convulses then crashes to the sandy ground dead.

COMBAT OVER

Glancing at the tough, overlapping crystals that make up the skreebara’s carapace, you conclude that they could be valuable.

A single PC may attempt a Life Science check (DC 12) to harvest the crystals.

If you succeed at the Life Science check:

You can harvest crystals worth 800 credits from the creature.

If you fail the Life Science check:

You cannot harvest the crystals without causing some damage to the carapace. Although you are able to harvest 400 credits worth, you realize that this is likely only half of the carapace’s full value.

Once you reach the wreckage of the Unbounded Wayfarer, you can plainly see that the vessel is far beyond repair. The tactical X-gen gun affixed to a section of shattered hull, however, can be removed with about ten minutes of work. Although the weapon is too damaged to be functional, you figure that it can be sold as scrap for a couple hundred credits.

Perception or Piloting (DC 15) when viewing the exterior of the wreckage:

You recognize characteristic impact marks of heavy metallic slugs, such as those used in coilguns or railguns on starships. The damage on the ship’s hull indicates that it tried to dodge the strafing fire, but darted the wrong way. You now understand, firsthand, how the Lawblight must have oriented its attacks with its coilguns against at least two of the ships that it attacked.
PCs gain the Lawblight Evasion clue.

Entering the interior of the wreckage, you find that the distress beacon has been activated. Although one of the Starfinders must have survived long enough to activate it, there are no survivors—seven desiccated corpses remain in the wreckage, while the remaining crew members were likely pulled out by the desert creature and devoured.
Nothing else of value appears to remain in the wreck; anything obviously worth salvaging was likely taken by the Corpse Fleet explorer that plundered it earlier.

Although the Unbounded Wayfarer’s computers are beyond repair, they still retain a minimal amount of power. Further, the computer interface ports contain an indentation in the same shape of the Starfinder insignias that retrieved from Julzakama some time ago.

If you slot one of the insignias into the indentation:

The computer flares to life just enough to display a datafile of worlds previously explored by crew of the Unbounded Wayfarer. They include:
• A wasteland planet called Elytrio that displayed signs of scattered technology.
• A sentient asteroid called Lamentia teeming with morlock “children” in the Vast.
• A massive space station called End of Bright Things stuck between the orbits of two blue dwarf stars.
• A stormy, oceanic world called Wealdriad, with upthrust columns of basalt piercing the storm-tossed ocean’s surface.

You can easily download this data into any personal data device, or send a wireless transmission of the files to the Odyssey for storage.

The final location’s coordinates are too damaged to display, but the computer has enough power to open a slot containing a single item, perhaps salvaged from the lost location. Within a once hidden compartment, that has now opened on the side of the ship, you find an iridescent spindle aeon stone. You can find no further details regarding the item’s history.

And of course Pinkiee is going to slot a Wayfinder into the socket to see what happens. He is delighted when data appears which is quickly downloaded and catches the aeon stone in a flipper as it is ejected.

Look what I found he exclaimed.

"Has anyone seen T Ox32O lately?"

Instead of looking for T 0x320, Saja just rummages through his deck of cards, until he concludes The android is alive, he is not part of my assignment.

The thin human did briefly pause looking over one of the cards, and offers the dejected dwarf some parting word You acted commendably, Cletus. Just bear with this a little longer...

Devil We Know | Burden of Envy | B12 Somewhere Below (GM School)

Having recovered the data module from the Unbounded Wayfarer, you are free to recover the bodies of the Starfinders a gesture sure to be appreciated by their families back on Absalom Station.

Your mission on the world complete, you can safely retrace your steps to the Odyssey and leave the surface of Ulmarid. You know with certainty that you will be well-compensated for reaching the wreck of the Unbound Wayfarer and returning with the information stored within the ship’s computer.

More of your future, however, is less certain. The strike upon the []Odyssey’s[/i] shields as you approached Ulmarid may well have been a foreshadowing of a more perilous navigation through the planet's asteroid field that could await you upon departure. Further, the threat of the Lawblight, the pirate vessel that brought low the Unbounded Wayfarer, has yet to be accounted for and, for all you know, could be lying in wait even now as you set out for Absalom Station.

Regardless of what the future may hold, you can be sure that the life of a Starfinder Society agent will be one of excitement, challenge, and new discoveries!
