The floor of the Vat Garden is 15 feet lower than the walkway surrounding it, and the foliage is so thick that creatures in the vat have total concealment (50% miss chance) from creatures up on the walkway.

Within the vat, the orderly rows of plants provide concealment (20% miss chance) to opponents more than 10 feet away; enemies closer than this do not benefit from concealment. The two ladders and steep staircase leading down into the vat are easy to navigate, but the PCs can also climb down the plants themselves with a successful DC 15 Athletics check.

Exegara of Eox? Saja speaks as two magic missiles shoot forth from his fingertips....

Shooting star (as magic missile): 1d4 + 1 + 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 + (1) + 1 = 6

If that is sufficient to take down the Eoxian:

Cause of death: acute physical trauma.

Saja drops a silence, as if listening to someone.

I'm afraid you are, this time. I am aware this has happened to you before, indeed. The fact that you are Eoxian has not escaped me.

Another silence, as Saja picks a card from his deck.

Please follow the directions on this card, and visit me at my tea shop. I am your guide to the afterlife - do not keep me waiting.

Saja sighs. Eoxians. So much paperwork.

The android's shot is sufficiently precise and the ammunition shears through the metal flaps of the ladder.

OUT OF ROUNDS

If you search the persons of any of the thugs:
You find that each has an assault hammer, azimuth laser pistol with battery (20 charges), and a credstick with 250 credits.

If you search the cloaked figure:
You find that she is indeed an Eoxian. She was wearing flight suit stationwear and had an azimuth laser pistol with battery (20 charges) and a datapad on her person.

If you access the datapad with a successful DC 15 Computers check, you may open the following spoiler:

Spoiler:
The information on the datapad identifies Exegara as a recent recruit of the Corpse Fleet. She was traveling aboard a vessel called the Endless Threnody, when that ship picked up the distress call of a Starfinder vessel. The Corpse Fleet ship is recorded as having traveled to the Starfinder vessel’s crash site on a desert planet. After the Endless Threnody left the planet, just as it was attempting to get into the Drift, it was surprised and crippled by a pirate ship identified as the Lawblight. Although the Endless Threnody made it into the Drift, the extensive damage sustained by the ship had made it unable to now leave. Exegara was dispatched to Absalom Station aboard a small shuttle to acquire necromantic components and other repair materials for the Endless Threnody.

The datapad contains the coordinates for the most recent position of the Endless Threnody. The navigational computer of the Endless Threnody is likely to contain the coordinates of the crashed Starfinder vessel and the desert world where it was found.
Each PC gains the Lawblight Assault clue on his or her Chronicle sheet.

As you speak with the mercenary, you are approached by three short, ysoki figurs. Each is dressed in overalls and and a bowtie. "We represent the Vat Garden Guild." the ysoki says, almost in unison.

"We'd like to thank you most sincerely..." says one.

"For helping us most dearly." chimes in another.

"So let us thank you, most clearly." notes the third, as he holds out six plant bulbs offering them to you all.

When chewed, each bulb acts as a dose of tier-1 antitoxin. You can also sell the gear acquired from Exegara and the thugs for 10% of its value.

Soon, thereafter, the station security summoned by the ysoki come take the thug into custody.

When you contact Venture-Captain Arvin, he seems pleased that you followed-up on this lead so quickly. He asks you to follow this mystery further by finding the Endless Threnody. He also encourages you to keep the Starfinder insignias for niw.

“The crew of the Unbounded Wayfarer received the insignias long ago for exemplary service to the Society. Although this isn’t common knowledge outside the Starfinder Society, these insignias are no mere trinkets; they can be used to encrypt or decrypt information that the Starfinders wanted to keep hidden.” Arvin explains.

He gives final instructions for you to meet with him at a starport located in the Arms of Absalom Station for debriefing and further orders.

End of Quest the First: “Station”. Each PC has now earned 1 XP, and will receive a minimum of 140 credits and 1 Reputation/Fame on his or her Chronicle for this character. Each PC has also earned the Lawblight Assault clue.

Destiny of Sands | Q16 | Lost Maid of Anactoria | Year of Era's End

Venture-Captain Arvin stands next to the entry ramp of a sleek-looking starship. “This is the Loreseeker, a Pegasus-class ship that’s one of the fastest and lightest in the Society’s fleet.” He says as he waves his hands over the side of the starship affectionately. “We know that a lost Starfinder vessel, the Unbounded Wayfarer, was discovered by undead creatures from a starship called the Endless Threnody. We’ve pulled some strings with our more reputable Eoxian contacts to get more information, but they’ve disavowed knowledge of the Endless Threnody entirely; this likely confirms our suspicions that the Endless Threnody is connected with the Corpse Fleet, a group of Eoxian separatists who refuse to work alongside the living.”

“We have the location of the Endless Threnody in the Drift, courtesy of that ghoul you tracked down.” Arvin continues, ”Its Drift engine is incapacitated, so it’s unable to escape the Drift. Take the Loreseeker into the Drift, locate the Eoxian ship—as a Corpse Fleet vessel, they won’t be open to negotiations—and recover the location of the lost Starfinder vessel.”

Following the recovered coordinates you locate the Corpse Fleet ship after several days travel in the Drift. The disabled Endless Threnody now drifts just outside the forward viewport of the Starfinder Pegasus-class starship, Loreseeker. The enormous Corpse Fleet starship bristles with bone spurs, and a baleful red lens at its fore resembles a swollen and bloody eye. Crackles of dark energy leap across the bone spurs, discharging from the ruined ship’s necromantic power source.

Destiny of Sands | Q16 | Lost Maid of Anactoria | Year of Era's End

With a burst of static and a flash, a blue-hued hologram of Venture-Captain Arvin appears at the Loreseeker’s communications station.

“Excellent work.” Arvin says. “The Endless Threnody is incapacitated, but not pulverized. I need you to board that vessel, access the main computers at the bridge, and recover the coordinates of the missing Starfinder vessel’s crash site.”

“That energy signature looks dangerous, and those discharges can damage your hull.” the Venture-Captain continues. “Dock at the cargo bay at the rear of the ship and make your way forward to the bridge. Wear space suits if your armor can’t protect you from vacuum—there are a few suits in a storage locker aboard your ship. Eoxian ships do not have life support and are often exposed to space.”

The Venture-Captain, then asks, ”Any questions?”

When ready, whoever is at the helm needs to give me a Piloting check in order to maneuver the Loreseeker to align with the Endless Threnody’s rear cargo bay.

Destiny of Sands | Q16 | Lost Maid of Anactoria | Year of Era's End

"The Corpse Fleet is a military organization from Eox that turned renegade and left their homeworld in protest of the Absalom Pact. The enlisted branch of the Corpse Fleet, called the converted, is filled with mindless or near-mindless undead, raised from the dead by mystics stationed in bases or in capital ships. Its leaders officially been disowned by the Eoxian government." Venture-Captain Arvin explains. "Many, among both the living and the undead, view the Fleet's existence as an abomination and an irredeemable threat."

Arvin gives a glance at 0x320 and Sanja, then turns his attention to the others. "Deal with any members of the Corpse Fleet as you see fit."

Under the guidance of the android, Loreseeker easily manages to dock to the Endless Threnody. Meanwhile, the party may contemplate what is already known about Eoxian starships.

Engineering or Mysticism (DC 14):

You recall that Eoxian vessels are often powered by magic as well as technology.

With a successful DC 18 check, you also know the information under the following spoiler:

Spoiler:
You were told in the past that many Eoxian ships rely on necromantic energies that radiate a minor aura of cold damage in addition to powering the ship.

Once the Loreseeker has docked with the undead ship, you depart from the Starfinder vessel into the vacuum of the Endless Threnody. The Endless Threnody has normal gravity but has no light. There are no doors in the interior of the ship.

You find yourselves in a mostly empty cargo bay. The cold of space feels even more icy aboard the ship, perhaps the result of the necromantic energies still surging through the vessel. You spy a small computer terminal here.

If you wish to access the terminal:
You find quickly that this computer is predominantly used to store manifests and access basic ship systems. It does not provide you with access to the bridge, but you think that you may be able to utilize it in a single attempt to minimize the necromantic energy flowing through the ship before the fail-safes on the terminal lock it out.

To minimize the necromantic energy from the terminal requires a single skill check, either Computers, Engineering, or Mysticism check. Only one of the listed skills can be utilized, and the check can only be attempted once.

As you make your way further into the interior of the Corpse Fleet vessel, you find that the branching corridors inside the Endless Threnody are not made of solid bulkheads of metal and plastic, but of a lattice of enchanted bone and steel. A metal grating on the floor provides stable footing, but the walls have gaps large enough to fit a fist. The passages split and recombine in a manner eerily reminiscent of being inside a giant ribcage.

There are three corridors that branch off ahead of you, that you believe most likely recombine ahead. As you proceed, you should expect to encounter any remaining undead crew members that may be lurking the halls.

Tactical map now revealed on Maps slide.

Each PC should roll me Perception and Initiative. Then place your PC token in one of the three corridors in the revealed starting area.

Engineering: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

To confirm, is a 2nd roll needed for the spoiler part?

Engineering Part 2, if needed: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20

Well I guess that answer is irrelevant then.

Engineering to Disable Necromantic Energies: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

As 0x320 docks the ship, he recites the contents of Eoxian.data.log for the team, "Eoxian data available: Eoxian vessels are powered by arcane energies in addition to technology. These necromantic energies radiate a minor aura of cold in addition to powering the ship."

...

Once on board, the 0x320 identifies a console to the Eoxian vessel. Typing in an even rhythm, the android brings up various pieces of data that flash across the screen, searching for a way to disable the necromantic system.

Generators?: 3d4 ⇒ (4, 4, 1) = 9

The android manages to deactivate a random pair of the necromantic generators and his allies prepare for battle.

Cletus has his pistol out. He's nervous. He wishes he listened to his mother.

Exo-Guardians

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The memory of Karen Gravelfinger resonates in Cletus' mind as he peers down the corridor on this boney ship.

"You should have listened to me. I knew these Starfinder's would just be trouble for you. You should have been happy with your work on the Roger Glip Gorp show each morning, but no, you had to go off on your little adventures. You probably didn't even take your stomach medicine...."
